native video calling on tmobile network - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Has anyone found out how to get the video calling icon active on T-Mobile with the Google version of the pixel... I know if you pop a Verizon sim card in and activate HD & video calling through Verizon it pops up... I've called T-Mobile and I've been told my account is provisioned for those things already.. my VoLTE works.. and I've always had native video calling for my last 4 phones. So I'm just wondering of anyone has figured it out.

I don't have T-Mobile myself, but I found that it worked for a guy here.

Have you tried going into the hidden Phone menu and verifying if Video Calling is provisioned? You need to be running Nougat, and although I don't have a Pixel, I assume you are... Look under "phone info" and scroll down... To access the hidden menu go into Phone, select the dial pad, and enter *#*#4636#*#* and the menu will appear... Please update us on what you learn.

I was wondering the same thing myself I went into the hidden phone message with the sequence that you gave and the video calling provision is turned off I turned it on and exited and then when I went back in it automatically turned itself off again there is an option to update something but once I press update it says update error but it doesn't stay turned on the video calling provision I don't know how to set it to stay

please explain how to get the Pixel XL video calling to work on T-Mobile.
Can someone please explain how to get the Pixel XL video calling to work on T-Mobile. Please please please please

HD Voice/Video calling on Verizon with Google version of device?

Does HD voice or HD video calling on Verizon work with the Google Play Store (unlocked) version of the Pixel 2 XL? I see no settings for it at all like before in the settings, guess I just figured once I popped my Verizon sim card in that it would enable HD voice/video calling, no? Anybody else have any input on this? Do I have to get the VZW version to get HD Voice/Video calling?
EDIT: After I popped in my Verizon sim I rebooted it and let it 'settle' for 10 mins before I touched it again and now I see the "Advanced Calling" toggle in the settings (which was already on) and then I went and tested it by calling my wife and it is indeed HD now and HD logos appear on both of our phones.

Are you on the latest version? I do not see HD voice anywhere on my calls on any calls on people who used to have it. I have full LTE signal and it is activated on my plan. Rebooted countless times but I am still on the version that came out of the box.

Once you enter your Verizon sim, go to the Play Store and allow it to install all the Verizon apps. Also let it do all the app updates. Once all that is completed reboot your device. Then once you are booted back into your phone, go to the connectivity in settings, tap on mobile network, tap on Advanced, and you should see the HD calling options.

Which Verizon apps specifically? I do not see that option, I see "Network & Internet" -> "Mobile Network" -> "Advanced Calling"....
Thanks!
If you don't see it, dial this:
*#*#4636#*#*
Go to the first menu option and then activate it all, near the bottom of the page
Make damn sure you have advanced calling enabled on your Verizon account before you do this. You will not be able to make a call if you don't have it active.

Thank you all, this is what I did to make it work (for anyone else having these issues on prepaid)
I went into features in my account on the Verizon website, disabled and re-enabled HD Voice. Then, I went into *#*#4636#*#* hidden menu and tapped "TRIGGER CARRIER PROVISIONING". When into the Google Play Store and saw "Carrier Services" was disabled. I enabled it and updated it. Waited about 5 mins for provisioning to be done. Rebooted and put in a post-paid Verizon SIM on a corporate account. Removed that SIM, put in my prepaid SIM and rebooted again.
Now it works and I noticed that the Carrier Services APK is disabled again. Strange, but It's working and no need for any Verizon bloatware. I see "HD" on the middle of the screen when on a call with another HD Voice enabled phone. Which I did not see before when calling/testing the same number.
Not sure what really fixed it though, I will update the thread if it stops working. I am also aware that Advanced Calling is needed for HD Voice, technically it does more than just HD Voice. So HD Voice is a part of Advanced Calling features and not "it is HD calling".

This is actually how i got VOLTE working. Before i did this i had no data while in voice calls.. Of course this was also after not being able to edit the APN's without playing musical sim cards. What a pain..
But yes, this dialer trick should work.. As soon as i did it, i saw the hd calling features amongst a few other hidden features being enabled/available..
Im on Straight Talk Verizon so as far as the thing about the carrier side being enabled, I dont know, i would assume Straight Talk doesn't offer optional luxuries like that. .. just the ability to use data while in call.
So glad I found this. I have the Pixel XL and I was getting frustrated that HD voice was not working. Google was no help, Verizon was no help either. This should be pinned to the top! Thanks!

Verizon Advanced/HD Calling on Unlocked S9+

I currently have an Unlocked Galaxy S9+ directly from Samsung running on Verizon's network.
I can't seem to find a way to enable the HD Calling/Video Calling/Advanced Calling features.
Some rumors suspected if you installed the MyVerizon app it would enable the advanced calling menu, but that didn't work.
Is there any way to enable these features?
Is there a command through ADB to enable this?
Would I need root access?
EDIT: Model Number: SM-G965U1 - Snapdragon
No way to get Video and WiFi calling to work (yet), but go to Connections, then Mobile Networks and you can turn VoLTE Calls on or off, which is HD voice. It was there by default on my unlocked S9+ on Verizon. If you don't see it, you may need to add HD calling to your Verizon plan (it's free, but you have to login to the website and add it as a feature).

Yeah, I know that they support video calling, along with a ton of other apps, but there is a native video calling option.
They got it working on unlocked S8, using some of the APKs and CSC from the Verizon phone. See below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...to/how-to-video-wificalling-unlocked-t3615027
Or just by flashing the whole Verizon firmware on the unlocked phone (kinda defeats the purpose of getting the unlocked phone):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...axy-s8-unlocked-version-wifi-calling-t3699806
So I'm hoping it's just a matter of time, as I also need the WIFI calling to work on my unlocked phone. I think that's what is needed in order to send texts over WIFI via the Verizon Message+ app, which is what I ultimately need when in poor signal areas (sending texts over WIFI, without getting a second number with Google Voice or asking people to install secondary apps like Allo/Duo). Or I could just switch to T-mobile I guess, where all these things work with the unlocked phone without the additional hassle.
Here is to hoping we can get wifi calling and native video calling working on the unlocked s9/s9+ phones for those of us on verizon.
I have the S9+ (G965U1), and I have used the included Wi-Fi Calling app.
Look for Wi-Fi Calling.

I just got my unlocked S9 what do I need to do to get everything working on VZW I mean HD Calling, and video calling etc.? I've never owned Samsung Phones, I've always had unlocked bootloader HTC phones that I could do anything I wanted with. I don't know anything about Samsung accept "Odin". I still havn't put the sim card in cause I was thinking of returning the phone.
Thanks for the hint Dudeman456! I found WiFi Calling under system apps and went to its settings and activated its permissions. Now I can send text messages over WiFi using Verizon Message+ app (and not the included Messages app or Android Messages). I still don't have WiFi calling through the default phone app on S9. I wonder if there is a different phone app that I need for that purpose (Verizon Phone app?).
Same issue as my unlocked Note 8 I got from Sammy. You can enable video calling in the *#*#4636*#*# menu. You will not be able to activate WiFi calling though unless you flash the Verizon firmware. You also will not be able to use any Verizon features such as watching NFL games (but I think that is changing and won't be a Verizon exclusive) and premium visual voicemail. Really is a deal breaker for me.

What in the world does this mean "*#*#4636*#*# menu"????
All,
This is a KNOWN issue with Verizon.
I got my S9+ on Wed 3/14 from pre-order and could not get video calling to work. Went to Verizon store on Sat 3/17 preparing to wage war with them. The Verizon tech stopped me in my tracks and said it's already known. An email sent from corporate to all verizon stores indicating the problem with video calling. It is an issue with Samsung software which they are "diligently" working to correct and will push an update soon.
Notice this.. go to either MyVerizon app or the website and login. then go to devices/manage devices...then go controls then to adjust service blocks and you will see the video calling is blocked and cannot be unblocked. Apparently this is done for "our own good" until Samsung fixes the issue.
No date from the tech on when a fix will be issued.
DONT try anything crazy to enable video calling..just be patient and wait for the fix. My S9+ is unlocked too and i was assured that video calling will be enabled once a fix is issued.

That is odd. I am using my G965U1 on Sprint and my Wi-Fi Calling app is in the regular app drawer with everything else. I did not expect it to work, since it is Sprint, but it did. The Wi-Fi Calling app was available before placing a sim card inside.

I don't think it will unblock. If you didn't buy the VZW branded phone you most likely won't get video calling. I assumed this from the start. I spent a good portion of the day speaking with a VZW 2nd level support engineer supervisor with 20 years experience. He asked is there anything else that could be done besides unblocking video calls to make me happy, because that at this time it is impossible as the phone is not a VZW phone. Look in you phone profile on their website, does a picture of your phone show up? My profile is blank, that means the phone is not in their system of phones, even though I flashed the full VZW package with bloatware and all after first a full reset. My Phone has VZW splash screen and all the advanced calling menus, in about phone it says SM-G960U, but that block cant be removed. Maybe I screwed up somewhere and alerted them by booting with a sim card in? Maybe they flagged my IMEI? I don't know but the rep said point blank they can't unblock video calling on that line, and unlocked phones are not supported.
Are you all seeing LTE+ (carrier aggregation) on your Verizon S9 devices? I'm in Vegas and my device appears to sit on B13 (700mhz) and does not hand off anywhere else.

You need the right apps for Wi-Fi calling and some in framework. I don't own a s9 but that's what you need to do to get it to work. Along with some csc edits

No data during call after oreo update

Hello. I'm hoping that someone can help me out. I have a Verizon note 8 that i use on straight talk for the longest it never would update to oreo but then i cracked the screen and purchased another used verizon note 8 from ebay. It came to me with a cricket sim card in it. I turned it on and connected it to wifi just to check it out before i transferred anything and it immediately wanted to update so i let it and it updated to oreo. I swapped over my ST sim into the new phone and stuck the cricket sim into the old phone and it updated too. But now my problem is that I keep getting the message that data is unavailable during calls. When i check the settings it says i am on CDMA/EVEDO/GSM/WCDMA. And there is no option to edit my APN. If i click on the mobile network i have the option for LTE/3G/2G but if i choose this nothing works and i have no option to go back to the CDMA/EVEDO/GSM/WCDMA and thus have to do a factory reset. I have tried texting APN to 611611 but it states my APN is already setup. I called tech support for ST and they told me to call back from another phone which i cant do until this evening when i get off work. So i thought in the mean time i would reach out to the real pro's on here and see if anyone else has had this issue. Did i mess up by updating with the cricket SIM inserted? Or could it be that i just didnt call straight talk when i swapped phones? i just took the sim card out of one phone and stuck it in the other. I really appreciate any advice anyone may have. Oh and I've tried finding the settings for HD calling to enable them, not there.
Thanks,
Amy
I'm having this same issue with my Verizon branded note 8 that I manually updated to Oreo. I called my carried, Red Pocket and they stated that this is enabled for my account. In Oreo the hidden menus seem to be disabled and I've tried other things. I may have to see if I can go back to Nougat. The dialer hidden menu I tried was *#2683662#. On the Verizon forums, other were able to get to the menu using *#4636# and enable VoLTE but that seems to be disabled for me. I tested from my coworkers note 8 and it seems to work fine on their phone.

I reflashed CRID and the CSC but my Service Provider SW ver. still says VZW/XAA/VZW. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Has anyone figured this out? I am having this very issue and Straight Talk has no clue what I am talking about.
I found this on the Samsung website and it looks promising but nothing has changed. I was able to see that the radiobutton/checkbox for LTE Enhanced is checked.
To enable HD Calling, download Shortcut Master (Secret Codes) Lite from developer vndnguyen. You will need to find the apk as it does not appear to be in the play store any longer.
1) From the option menu located in the upper right hand corner, choose Search.
2) There is a search field at the bottom of the screen. Type lte then hit the Search key.
3) Scroll down to Mobile Networks. Choose the one that show EnhancedLteServices. Then click Launch. Then click the box to enable HD Calling.
I was also able to set the APN settings to Bearer: unspecified using Shortcut Master lite but this made no difference whatsoever.
Finally, you don't need to do a factory reset each time you go from CDMA/EVEDO/GSM/WCDMA to LTE/3G/2G (auto connect), simply search in settings for reset network and then reset the network settings and reboot.
I was able to get the SIM card trick to work for me on my Note 8 as well. I have redpocket and prior to doing the sim card trick I did not have VoLTE. Now I do. It's too bad that this is majorly inconvenient and it won't stick after a reboot, by the sounds of it. I haven't tried yet. I may just tape the sim to the back of my phone or inside my case. Also, on my Note 8 prior to this, I was seeing vzw/xaa/vzw and now it has the vzw/vzw/vzw CSC with the RP sim in. I'm hoping that there is another way to fix this but at least I have a work around.
I updated to Oreo on my verizon note 8.
I dont have any options for advanced HD Calling, Wifi calling.
When I go to ims settings it says denied.
Any ideas

Wifi Calling, Verizon Pixel 2XL, using Straight Talk AT&T Sim no option

Hey all, I've been pouring over the forums here and other places trying to find a solution to my issue. I just got a Pixel 2XL the verizon version and I'm using it on Straight Talk with an AT&T sim card. So far so good except I cannot get wifi calling. I'm pure stock, android 9/Pie, no bootloader unlocks/rooting etc. The wifi calling option does not exist in the phone app nor in the settings anywhere. Even when you search for wifi calling, it simply takes you to the network and connections section of settings but wifi calling is no where to be found. I've tried the adb command (the one that apparently used to work on Oreo but not longer does on Pie) and that didn't work (though I didn't expect it to since many people said it no longer works on Pie). I have an Unlocked Note 9 as well and its wifi calling works perfectly fine so does anyone have a way to make this work? Reception at my home is somewhat lacking and I really need wifi calling.
Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot with the WHOLE section of "Mobile Network", found inside of "Network & Internet" in the Settings -- make sure that you click on the drop down menu next to "Advanced Calling" -- this will help make sure that wifi calling is really missing as well as might point something out that may help with a solution. Moreso, personally, because I can't even imagine what the settings menu looks like missing this...

It might be a long shot but try checking the settings in the Google phone app. There should be a place that says configure IMS calling. I have this setting here and in the network settings. If you have it that's where you can enable wifi calling.

Been there done that. I have no options for setting up IMS calling. I only have SIP options. Also, I have tried the phone dialer trick (where you dial *#*#4636#*#*) and that shows the wifi calling option as a toggle but its greyed out and cannot be enabled. I even tried an adb trick that used to work on the 1st gen pixels, but to no avail.
What happens when you enter your information here?
I'll have to initiate a chat with Straight Talk. Like you I have a Pixel 2 XL with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM. The only difference is that mine is unlocked. I just ran my phone number and the IMEI of the SIM through the linked site and it tells me my device is not compatible. Since I have a BYOP SIM and the IMEI is of the SIM itself, chances are high that the SIM needs replacing with one that includes WiFi calling support.
EDIT: According to the representative I just spoke with, there's no guarantee that changing to a newer AT&T SIM will enable the feature. The only guaranteed method according to tech support is switching to a T-Mobile SIM.

Hey thanks for the help. I tried that link as well (before I posted here; sorry I should have mentioned it) and it said my device is also not compatible. I initiated a chat with them and they told me the same; switch to T-Mobile. I am tempted to do so but the one thing holding me back is my home is already a place I get poor signal and T-mobile's coverage while much improved still isn't as good at AT&T's. I realize that having wifi calling would fix any lingering signal issues but I do manage to get 1-2 bars of 3G at my house with AT&T, I figure I won't even get that with T-Mobile. So I am weary of the switch. I'll have to consider it though. I could also wait for the full rollout of the latest google voice (since it finally is bring VOIP without the need of hangouts) and just use that number instead.
So I contacted Straight Talk and ordered a T-Mobile sim card. It'll be here in a few days. I will post my findings after it arrives. Straight talk support says wifi calling works with all T-Mobile sim cards so we will see.
Hello all,
Okay, so I finally got switched over to a T-Mobile sim card (again still with straight talk). It took a while cause I had to buy a new one (the old one I had expired; who'd have thought?). Anyways, switching to T-Mobile solved all my problems and then some. Not only do I have Wifi calling, but also HD voice, VOLTE, Tethering, and 3-4 bars of LTE (previously on AT&T, I got 1-2 bars of 3G). I realize the signal issues is merely a coverage thing but I can say with certainty that switching to a T-Mobile sim card will give you all the advanced features. I hope this helps others who might experience this problem. I've been using AT&T (in one form or another) for the better part of a decade and can now honestly say, AT&T sucks.

WiFi calling on unlocked p2XL on vzw

I have been trying to figure this out since I got this phone in late 2017. How do I get the wifi calling to work on vzw with my unlocked 2xl? Reading on the internet seems to indicate that there is some software missing for this feature to work with vzw. This 2xl may have wifi calling on T-Mobile for example, but not vzw because it isn't "carrier branded" for vzw. I'm assuming that's some piece of software.
Does anyone know what this is and is it a shareable file that someone could provide and explain where I need to put it in my phone via solid explorer to get the wifi calling working on this phone? I was so excited for that feature when I upgraded from my s4, and have never had it yet. It's one downfall for the unlocked phone.
Anyone? Do I just need to flash a Verizon radio image or something like that?
I have also been trying to do this as well, in that menu, it is not provisioned, does that mean my carrier needs to do something?
Mod Edit: removed portions of quote no longer needed

After setting up android 10, I went to settings>Network & internet > Mobile Network > Advanced, and tapped wifi calling, turned the toggle on and a screen popped up "activate wifi calling;" it required me to enter the emergency location information address.. I pressed save, and wifi calling was activated.
Are you on Verizon with an unlocked pixel 2XL I take it? Were you too unable to get Wi-Fi calling working on Verizon before the Android 10 update?
Is there anyone out there that has information on this? How is vzw locking out bring your own devices from their WiFi calling and several other services? What identifier on the phone are they using and how can it be tricked with root? Are there any Xposed modules that could make this work?

I have my pixel 2xl from google and it's working without issue.
Go to settings, network and internet tap on mobile network and scroll down to advanced and it's at the bottom (above apn settings). That's all I had to do. Nothing special even though I'm rooted it still had nothing to do with root.
Let me know if this helped

Yes, see my post down below
I have been reading and reading and reading on this. I can't find a way to make these carrier services work. What can I do? Here is what I see when I dial *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer.
The options are turned out turned on but greyed out for Wi-Fi calling, video calling, and UT interface. It tells me my IMS registered and voice over LTE is available. Do I need to change any settings in this section of my phone app? Do I have to change my preferred network type to something other than LTE / CDMA automatic, or change my radio band? What about the SIP server?
No one knows of a work around?

This has happen to me a couple times when I was using an essential phone and tried to get WiFi calling to work on it. Once I went back to my unlocked pixel 2xl I had to call the help line and get my "video calling" turned back on. Which in turn re activated my WiFi calling. Just have them check i bet something got turned off on their end.
