[Q] P605 Towelroot, then Titanium Backup, now my Statusbar & Task Manager are gone
Hello Guys,
i couldn't find anything specific in the forum yet. I really hope you can help me and i can explain it right (i'm from germany)
I successfully rooted my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 LTE with Towelroot yesterday. I was super happy, Knox was still 0x0 and Status perfectly official.
I just wanted to install some apps that needed rootaccess and kick some bloatware off the device.
So today i installed Titanium Backup and even before i backupped everything, i wanted to get rid of "ChatOn", Businesweek+" and "NY Times". While i was at it, i also removed "Samsung Galaxy App purchase" (sth like that?). I thougt it was the one, that gets you into Samsung App Market, just to show you some cool apps for the galaxy phones?
And that was it. I wanted to freeze the rest with greenify.
Just when i searched for it a few minutes later, i realised that my statusbar was completely gone. Nothing happening when i try to get it down with my finger, its just gone.
Same thing with the task manager, i can press the home button twice, and theres samsung voice but if i hold it pressed longer, no task manager shows anymore.
After i found one Person with the same problem online (no solution) i also checked for incoming calls. They are not shown on the display anymore when the call is happening.
Long story short, i guess it must have happened when i deleted stuff with titanium backup (without backing up anything, so stupid, i know...)
Because everything was fine yesterday and all morning.
What is the best way to solve this?
Flash the original Firmware via Odin? What would that do to my Counter? Flash something else? I never planned to do any of this so that is where i get a little scared. What happens, when i try to connect the device to Kies?
Or should i rather unroot the device and try to get a new one? (I basically bought an extra insurance, so i technically even get a new one, when the displays broken etc.)
Oh and i've already did the cache wipe in recovery mode an multible reboots.
I know it must be so annoying to have people do something without obviously knowing exactly and then ask about it on the internet ...
but i would be so happy if you could give me any hint what to do.
And again, sorry for my english!
Why don't you try to flash the same stock ROM as the one you have with Odin ?
I think this would put the things back to square.:fingers-crossed:
You can find the stock ROM's here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ or here http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=SM-P605
Then restart the procedure of rooting, debloating but make a backup with Titanium backup first.

Okay, thank you very much for your answer! Then i guess i'll just try it with Odin now. Thank you very much for the links, i've already found the firmware (P605XXUCNF2)
Does it matter, which version of Odin i'm using? And i'm still not sure if this sets my knox Counter from 0x0 to 0x1 if it's a stock firmware?
For anyone elses information: I did a factory reset today and the problem is still there, together with the background staying completely black now and a constant message "KeyguardTestActivity has stopped" popping up every second.
I really hope flashing the stock ROM sets everything back to normal.
Thank you so much for your help!

No risk at all to trip Knox to 0x1 if you flash a stock firmware , I believe you have just suppressed a necessary APK !!

ok guys, i have a question for you. keep in mind that im new to the phone world lol. ok so a bout a month ago i wanted to unroot my phone but for some reason the tar files on sammobile wasnt working right. so i came on here and downloaded what i believed to be the file that i needed to go back to stock. after i used odin and the phone rebooted it automatically notified me that i had a update. after i accepted the update and it rebooted, it again notified me that i have yet another update. so after this happened i noticed that my phone was updated to 4.4.4 kitkat which would be great exept for the fact that it keeps freezing and when i am on wifi i have a problem getting phone calls aswell as text messages. also when i disconnect from wifi i have to restart the phone to get any data back. is there anything that i can do? is it possible to go back to 4.3 or even 4.2.2? any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello! Did you make a back up of your phone before you started the update? That would be the easiest way to go back to how it was. If you used Odin and didn't install a recovery like TWRP or Clockwork you may not have done so. I believe you can reload from Odin with an older ROM it will just erase everything you did. There are stock ROMS here at XDA and galaxynote3root.com as well. Let me know it this helps, sorry for your troubles.

I'm actually surprised that you did get an update to 4.4.4... You could try going back to NF9. The safest route I see that you can take is to install a custom recovery and make a backup before doing this. If you odin NF9 and it doesn't boot then you're kinda screwed because we technically don't have the 4.4.4 update yet, so if anything goes wrong, you can install a recovery again and restore the 4.4.4 backup.

You can get the latest TWRP recovery here : http://www.techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
Just odin that and after it's done, go into recovery by doing Vol down + Home and do a backup either in your internal or external storage. After that finishes, you can go back in download mode and odin NF9.
ok thanks for all you help man,

Yeah its not on their website. I have know idea what i got then lol anyway to fine out if i have something i shouldnt?
So my stock, rooted boot animation was getting boring So, I saw a cool Iron Man JARVIS boot that I wanted on my SM-T800 but it was .ZIP and apparently Samsung only use QMG so I open Rom Tool Box, then went to Rom Extras and then Samsung and select to install Binarys for .ZIP instead of QMG - it rebooted and there was a black screen and just boot sound. I then placed the .zip files and rebooted and it was the same, black screen no image and just sound. So I tried to get my original boot screen back and tried to do the recover QMG option, only TWRP loads does something for 2 seconds I see red failed writing and my Tab reboots to nothing but a black screen and boot sound. I've tried multiple times and it never works. I've pasted my original Samsungboot.qmg back into /system/media (where I took it from) but it still don't work.
As is evident, I'm a complete noob, so really need some help here and I figured one of you good gentlemen would help me. I'll state it again, I'm a noob (or idiot for messing with what I don't know, whatever you want to call it) so some advice or help I can follow would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.
Make sure you set the permissions of the files to the same as the rest in that folder.
Also wipe cache and dalvik in twrp.
Ok done both of those and it's still just a black screen with boot sound on start up.
Thanks for the help so far man, I really appreciate it.

The easiest way to fix is to just reflash the stock rom then reroot.
Aw man. Was hoping to avoid that.
Where would I find the stock ROM?
Is it this that I need Ashyx? http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/49140/T800XXU1BOCC_T800BTU1BOC1_BTU/
UK version of the Galaxy Tab S WiFi model.

Why, it won't affect your personal data?
Are you UK Region?
I thought it would delete everything? Yes, I'm in the UK.
Thanks for the help man.
Ashyx, I just flash that file with Odin the same way I did when I used your Root tutorial right?
I's still be able to follow the below guide to gain root again, yes?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/root-cf-autoroot-twrp-t800-t3079488
Or could I use TWRP that installed with your guide to install the above file?
You can use Flashfire to install, it will root at the same time or just root afterwards with odin if you have already tripped Knox.
I've never used Flashfire, can't see any guides, would be more confortable with Odin Since I've used it before.
Would I need to install TWRP again? Would like to just follow your whole guife again, not much chance of me messing it up then. Yeah I've already trippes Knox, so not worried about that. Thanks for your help man.
In that case just install with odin and then run cf_autoroot.
Ok I'll do that. Thanks man.
Quick update, to say that it did indeed fix the error, so thanks Ashyx.
I love my Note 4 so much that I tried for about 2 weeks to fix it's constant rebooting issue. Went to ATT & Samsung repair center and they couldn't get it to flash. However, it stills turns on, I just generally need to pull the battery for a few minutes to get it to boot.
With that said, I'm not incredibly knowledgeable in this area. I've downloaded ODIN and found lots of resources for the exact steps to follow, however, I'm not sure where I can locate a version of 5.1.1 for ATT. To me, this seems like my only fix for my phone. I've tried clearing cache and factory resets etc. My phone is unlocked. Am I missing anything that you can think of? Can someone link me to a reputable source for the appropriate files?
You seriously cannot imagine how happy I'd be if I can get this thing working again. Thank you!
PS, if you think there is a more stable version than 5.1.1, I'm open to that too.
Bump. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What is your Baseband? Maybe you can't go back.
Heya guys.
Thank you for the link! I seriously googled and browsed forums for days looking for it. I even went to the Android website with a slew of different version but they did not have the ATT versions. Anyway, I'm going to give this a go but still pretty green to it. I was going to follow the instructions from this post - should work right? https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-att/general/expert-phone-trashed-t3573110
And Norbarb, I have no idea what my Baseband version is. I did a quick google to see if I can locate it somewhere but couldn't figure it out. How can I check?
I do appreciate your help.

Can you reboot to recovery?? There's some info there regarding your current setup
Ironically, now I can't even get the phone to turn on. I bought a battery charger for the Note battery to see if that is the issue. I can't get the battery to charge even when it's plugged in. That arrives Monday so I'll update shortly.
Quick update:
Baseband is N910AUCS2EPK3. I'm not sure if that means I can or can't roll back to Lollipop.
Popped in the charged battery from my new charger and it came right on. Had it on for a little bit just messing around with things. After rebooting it myself a few times, it now is reverting back to it not even turning on, even with a charged battery. I pull the battery 10-20 times, hold the power button without the battery to clearly out any remaining electricity and still no go. I have 2 batteries and neither work. So I'm going to let it sit and if I can get it to come on, install Wake Lock.
Does anyone know if I can revert back to 5.1? I'm not sure how my Baseband effects that. Thank you for all of your help! If I can't get this, I think I may go back to my S3 vs a Pixel.

If you have this, you can easily go to Odin and flash 5.1.1. I don't have the link to the LP Odin files, but heres the Odin link for the MM files in OP:

Make sure you can be able to stay in Bootloader for a while before you attempt this, because if your phone dies before the Odin flash completes, you probably likely just created a brick.
Here's my How-To in that same thread. I've also used the newest Odin available with same good results.

In fact, I'm about to reflash back to 5.1.1 again from latest updates. MM is pissing me off on that battery issue again. I just wish I can keep it there and keep ATT from pushing OTA without me agreeing to it.

Try holding power button, home button and volume up all at the same time while its powered off. If you can get to Recovery screen here, then you just may be getting somewhere. I would then wipe data/factory reset, then reboot again. If this doesn't work, you can then try holding power botton, home button and Volume down at the same time. This gets you in bootloader mode. Once you get there, only way out at this point is pulling battery (to start over) or get started on Odin flashing.
At least I have kept OTA from working, with this debloater from this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294

There should be a zip in here that you have to extract four files to a folder. You will use the Odin exe program to look for those files. Just follow my howto notes I wrote in the link I posted. This is to the Marshmallow stuff. Forget the MD5 and pit file unless you know what you are doing. Since I don't know where that came from, I won't even suggest those 2.

Ironically I'm looking to get rid of Marshmallow because I think 6.0.1 screwed up my phone. It was working great prior to that. So the LP files I have are the MD5 and pit, supplied in the 3rd post. Is there somewhere I should look for LP files? And to be clear, are there "regular" rom files for general use, and then ODIN specific files? ie, you could have a "regular" 5.1.1 file, and then ODIN specific 5.1.1?

With the mess you have, I would think you want to Odin flash a whole new setup. You don't know what's wrong and a partition could be corrupted. If it's hardware, nothing you really could do about it anyways

the problem is that the vendor from china put some crippled stock rom on my phone where they removed the system update service and so i cant do a local update with the phone. my rm 6 telegram group suggested that i install the qcom 9008 usb driver on my pc and boot my phone via adb into qcom 9008 edl mode and use miflash to flash it with a 4.15 unbrick package and if this would work i would have intact system update again and could flash it with a local update with the firmware id like. thanks for the help btw. gotta go out in 5 minutes but be back in a bit. please give me your opinion, i will read it once im back
What you wrote sounds good. Your flashing app is miflash. Download the 4.14 unbrick, and load it into miflash without fone plugged in, power fone OFF, start the miflash, hit download/flash (dont know the actual button to do the damage), then plug turned off fone into usb, miflash should auto find and flash, anything after that, feel free to ask.
Ps you could just jump in the deep end and flash the one you WANT, so that if it fails you'll know if it works or not, and will have tested a rom before flashing your stock back, kinda better than flashing stock first in a way.

thanks for the suggestions! i want to give this a try as soon as i have some time. buthow do i backup my current stock rom in case the new rom wont work? i only know about rom manager app but that needs a rooted phone and mines isnt rooted. is there a way to backup the stock rom without having a rooted device?
Forget backing that up, your already at the stage where you learn if you back this up now, you MAY also back up the problem and have to do it all again, take my advice, keep it simple.
For your 'backup' - download latest official stock from your fone maker.
You may want to revert back AFTER you test the one you want to test.
So test first while it's 'broken' knowing once you go back to stock, it aint broke, dont fix it.

hey there! thanks for your tips, i appreciate it! ok just to clear things up, with "stock" firmware, you mean the official latest chinese firmware from the chinese nubia page, right?
Yup, if thats what you know is your STOCK, ie, not the one you wanna test, but in your scenario, I'd flash the test before stock, this way you gain experience flashing, and if you mess up, then you flash the stock, and learn not to. (again lol)
To clarify, stock is the firmware the fone maker has on their site.
Follow thir instructions, it's easier than you think, as my auld man told me, when testing, write down every step, so you REMEMBER instead of being unsure because I forgot....

ok i got it. thanks for the help! i have the stock ready on my computer. unfortunately i cant flash my phone by following the manufacturers steps because my phone vendor flashed my phone with some custom chinese multi language firmware with google already pre installed. and whoever edited this firmware before flashing it on my new phone, removed the system service that is necessary to launch the "system update" options. therefore i have no way of making a local firmware update in my phone. unfortunately the red magic 6 pro also does not have a local update option in the recovery menu. thats why my only option is flashing the phone with my computer. but in the worst case i will have the latest stock rom on my phone in the end and this will have the system update options intact. thanks again for all the help!
