[solved] zenfone 2 mess - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a zenfone 2 Z00A, a month old from AndroidEnjoyed. It seems to be in a bit of a mess.
1) There is no system update utility installed - not in the settings/about menu or under apps/all
2) It won't run Pokemon Go - it gives the incompatible message that rooted phones give
3) I can't boot it into recovery mode - I get into the boot loader, select recovery mode and get a dead android with exclamation mark and the word "error" underneath. Takes a while on power button to get it to shutdown in that state.
4) Can't get it to recognise the 6.0 update. Tried various filenames in the internal memory but it never sees it.
While I have significant computer expertise I don't do much with phones and I could well be doing some of this wrong. I am not sure what else to try. The boss of my life wants both Pokemon Go and also 6.0. Done lots of googling and trying but no luck so far.
Cheers Paul

3)At dead android guy with error
press power and vol+ together for 3 secs - let go of power -- 1 sec later let go of vol+
if no recovery there , you will have to fastboot flash recovery at bootloader state.
what build number and date in settings is it?

This wouldn't happen to be a 2e would it?

first of all when you boot into recovery mode. as you get error screen. press and hold volume button. then click volume plus once and release power button. now if you want to update to 6.0.. it is most important that you back up your data and factory reset the device. then update to 6.0 via sideload

Thanks Guys, you got me on the right track. I have sideloaded a version of 5.0 and then 6.0. The 6.0 version required a later version of 5.0 to install. Funny now we have a software upgrade menu item in the right place and pokemon go works fine.
One thing though your instructions didn't work. To get past the dead android with the message "error" you need to press and hold the power and volume up for three seconds and then release the volume key. Worked every time but your way never worked.
Again many thanks for the help. The hardest part was getting the phone away from the wife when it one had a nearly full battery and two wasn't immediately wanted back.
Cheers Paul

Enter download mode (hold [VOLUME-DOWN][HOME][POWER] until buzz, then release [POWER]). At the first download mode screen where it says you can press volume-down to boot normally, press volume-down to boot normally.

If the advice above didn´t work (nothing happened when pressing the usual VOL down - home - power etc), this is how I managed:
I tried booting around 25 times with the power button released at different times. Did not work.
Tried to insert battery when pressing the 3 buttons. Did not work.
I let the battery run completely empty. Started charging the phone and pressing the 3 buttons. Did not work.
I charged the phone full (with booting the whole time....needed to put it somewhere quiet). After estimating it was full, I pulled out the battery, preparing to send it to mobiletechvideos.com (they saved me before). After a few hours I wanted to see the error message so I could write them. When I inserted the battery, I got the regular download mode! Nowthen, would I dare to boot it since I am not really sure what to flash to my phone?
I rebooted, and now the phone is back to normal. OTOH, I will not try to flash CWM/TWRP again, so goodbye custom roms (Omega )
you are a life saver!

The phone is fine now, it was just stuck on the loop and spamming home was the only way out, its fine now I've had no problems and it boots up fine
This happens...
This happens to almost everyone at some point of time. There is no need to worry as you just need to flash recovery like TWRP or CWM. To shed some light on this issue... boot loops mainly happen when you uses the incorrect version of software with your ROM or stock firmware. By using youtube you can look at the videos of your phone model and find the recovery version number needed.
For anyone who has a Note 3 T-Mobile phone who is still stuck! I am willing to make a video to show how to fix this and provide all the firmware/version numbers + links in one bundled location to make it easier.
ALL PHONES ARE VERY specific... ONLY USE THE CORRECT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR MODEL PHONE
Again, if you have a Samsung Note 3 T-Mobile, model number SM-N900T and are still lost. Let me know so I can shot a video and bundle files needed.

Don't be scared by this... just choose the correct versions before blindly trying to install a ROM. Also, only use links from main sources if you dont fell like auditing the code!
Hi guys, sorry for might be late about helping you now years later... But recently I've found something interesting about fixing this issue.
*****
Fix: (100% working in Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530H)
UPDATED: More detailed info!
# Before flashed Recovery or Root:
1. Root device using Odin or any other rooting known workaround.
2. Backup Recovery (optional), and Kernel using Rashr (available on PlayStore).
3. Flash Custom Recovery (TWRP), using Odin PC software or TWRP android app.
4. Flash backed-up Kernel.img file to Boot partition using TWRP install section.
5. Reboot system (It may take a few time to boot)
# After flashed Recovery or Root: (accidentally or without knowing)
1. Search online and download your exact Phone Stock Kernel.
2. Follow *before flashed* above ↑ from 3rd.
Bonus info:
Even after flashing TWRP, you might be able to Boot device yet, by going to TWRP → Advanced → Reboot system. (It bypass bootlooping to Recovery, while: “Set Warranty Bit : Recovery”).
That's all! Try at your own, then share it!

Htc desire 526g stuck in boot loop

Hi guys, months ago i rooted my HTC 526G with Kingoroot. I later tried to update the software over wifi. It updated but in restarting its now stuck in boot screen and sometimes goes into recovery by itself. Is there a way I can revive the firmware? Any help appreciated
HTC Desire 526G
I have problem like this ....cant fix it
Warning/Disclaimer: This will erase everything you have on the phones internal memory. (if you have play store set up right, you can just log back in afterwards and it will pull all your data/apps back, however if you don't, make sure to backup any contacts, data, ect that may be on the phones storage before attempting this) (then again, if you were already trying to root, you should have had everything backed up already anyway )
Charge the device to at least 50% (or an hour or two at least if the battery was completely dead)
Hold the Volume Down Button, Press power button, keep holding the volume down button
Phone should boot into HBOOT or Download mode,
use the volume up and down buttons to highlight Recovery Mode
press power button to select Recovery Mode
Phone will reboot with a red triangle icon, press all three buttons at the SAME time (vol up, vol down, power)
use the volume up and down buttons to highlight Clear Data (Factory Reset) press power button to select, let it finish clearing /data/ and /cache/
Once this has completed, Pull the battery out, let it sit for like 30 seconds without the battery
Put battery back in
hold power button for a while until it vibrates, release power button
let it sit at the htc boot screen for 10 minutes phone should eventually move to the verizon boot screen (if it goes over 10 minutes on the htc screen, try procedure again)
Post here if you have any trouble.
Still have problems

i've done the procedure but unluckly i'm still having this problem, did someone fix the loop with this method? should i just wait for custom roms? :crying:
I had it happen to me after trying to root with just about every tool out there, mine would boot up but wouldn't go past the htc boot screen white background green htc. After I cleared the data a few times (at least 3) it came back up, try the procedure more than once. Also be patient and wait the full 10 minutes for it to come back up, sometimes it can be slow to load for the first time after this kind of wipe.

Try to root with "PhilZ Recovery by Ajit", search on google, i don't remember where i have download it, but it is an .exe file.
After you install it on your computer, you select USB debugging, and connect your phone to the computer, the rest of the process is auto.
After the installation process, the phone will autoreboot in recovery, here you will select ---> Advanced Function---> RE-root System (SuperSU).
After that, reboot, and install SuperSU from GooglePlay.
Success.
Root without boot loop (you may want to wipe Dalvid Cache before reboot after selecting root).
I hope this works for you ( it worked for me HTC desire 526g ).
Have a nice day.
IF you dont find the Philz, contact me, i wil send it to you.
Philz Recovery by ajit is designed for devices using the Mediatek processor; Sadly our 526 (no g, no +) uses a qualcomm processor. I do not recommend anyone to attempt to use "Philz recovery by Ajit" to attempt to root their HTC 526 as at best it will fail and at worse it will flash a non-compatible recovery and turn your device into a hard-brick.

My phone was also rooted using kingroot. I received an OTA update and I downloaded it. Once the download was complete, the phone restarted and got bootlooped. Occasionally, it goes into recovery. I tried factory resetting it several times as mentioned in the solution. But each time I turn the phone ON again after factory reset, it is looping. Its not stuck at the boot logo. Instead it reboots automatically and in some cases to recovery. So the wait-for-10-mins thing is not working for me.
1. I received a stock ROM from the Russian section of XDA. Will flashing that ROM using the stock recovery using "install update from SD card" help me recover my phone from bootloop?
2. Will flashing the stock ROM unroot the phone? Presently, even after the factory resetting, "check the software partition" option in recovery returns a message "error - system has root". So I was hoping that unroofing might fix the problem. Will it?
3. If the above method fails, is there any other method? Like flashing a custom recovery or flashing a custom ROM etc?
Please help me fix the phone. Thanks in advance.
I am experiencing the same problem and have tried everything to avail, will this devise ever work again its still stuck with a white screen and green HTC

Hey negomo. I just fixed the phone yesterday. It seems that installing an OTA update while the phone is rooted can result in a bootloop or bricking(as in my case). I fixed this issue by flashing a stock ROM of the HTC 526g which I got from another Russian forum in XDA. Anyway I am posting the link of that stock ROM here.
( I am not allowed to post link. So please delete the spaces to get the actual link)
h t t p s :// yadi.sk/ d/gNKBahgZiwGmo
Once you download it do the following procedure
1. Copy it to an SD card and insert the card in your phone.
2. Press power button+volume up key button to enter HBOOT menu (while turning on the phone, press power and vol up button instead of power button alone)
3. Choose recovery option and press volume down to enter
4. Press power button once to enter recovery
5. Choose "install update from SD card"
6. Wait till it finishes installation
7. Wipe cache
8. Reboot phone
PS: I had already done a factory reset from recovery menu. I don't know if that had helped.
This will bring your phone back to life. Give around 10 mins for the first boot.
I hope I was able to help you.
Hit thanks if I did.

Zenphone 2 bootloop , cant access recovery mode nor fastboot nor adb

Hello Guys
After doing deep search on this forum and try several unsuccessful solutions (recover mode, fast boot...). I decide to create new thread.
Symptom : A boot loop on Android Upgrade (There are 7 updates to apply).
I think, I know the cause but every solution found on this forum didn't succeed.
I tried to access recevey mode ( Power+Up, then release up ). --> When I release Up after vibration, I don't enter into recovery mode.
I tried to access my phone through fastboot or adb but, I have following message : "Wait for device". No detection so
Here is what I have done to be in this situation :
I've rooted my phone (thanks to forum explanations) --> No Problem
Installed this bull**** app "App Master" to freeze or put bloatware into trash (recoverable)
Everything was ok, since I noticed "Asus Start Manager" needed to update but was not compatible with my device. Strange isn'it.
So I've undertaken to restore frozen and removed app from app master. It asked me to restart and then, my 7 restored app seems to involve a big mess.
And now I can't Boot. NOte that android upgrade wants to suprisingly update 7 optimisations.
My next idea is to acces directly internal storage to remove 7 apk provoking boot loop.
Do you have better idea because if I remove internal storage, wararnty will be canceled and in addition I have no guaranty I'll able to read it.:crying:
Further more I hesitate to send it to vender since my device is rooted. They will answer it's my fault, and it's true sic !
As you understand I 'm quite desperate . IF someone can help me I'd be so grateful.
Thanks everybody and sorry for my english

Unfortunatly no.
bouhhh !!
Try to see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/unbricking-research-unbricking-method-t3162848
Ok i'll try it after work this evening.
I have nothing to loose so....
can u let me know. I failed with it.
U should have been able to access the boot loader at least.
while pressing and holding the volume up button , press and hold the power button until the set vibrates.
just when u feel the vibration RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON, NOT THE VOLUME UP BUTTON, 9as u have mentioned the oppssite in the first post) then it should go to boot loader menu.
I have a similar problem with ZF2. I access recovery mode by pressing the down arrow key and then the power button but the phone just reboots into recovery mode again. No dead android logo appears as others have suggested.
Try that : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3191244
Do volume up + power, once it vibrates press volume down rapidly about 3 times. Wait for a minute or two while on the Asus screen. Sometimes it will boot into recovery or it will vibrate and stay stuck. It worked for me.
A workaround
Hello Guys !
I've posted a workaround to my problem but I don't understand why it doesn't appear. I certainly made a mistake something.
Here is what I remember:
I tried several procedure described on asus-zenfone.com I finally found a soft which unlocked my recovery mode.
But finally it was maybe the fact to connect my device with usb which unlocked It (sorry I don't remember)
Once recovery menu was available, I downloaded official rom, copied it on an sdcard and installed it.
Good news, most of bloatware were desactivable !
Now, I have a device rid of the unworthy softs with an offical ROM.
In such situations I usually disassemble the phone and disconnect the power train of a few minutes. After that it booted recovery/bootloader.

I am able to access bootloader . But when i choose recovery mode, the phone enters into a boot loop.
. Here is what i have done:
1. My device was already rooted.
2. Tried to install twrp custom rom using usb adb commands
3. It showed successful. I fast booted into my device. Switched it off and entered boot mode again. then selected Recovery. But I was never able to enter into recovery (The Robot with error was not at all displaying).
4. Then i searched google and found my boot loader was locked. I unlocked bootloader using
https://dl.xda-developers.com/3/4/0....zip?key=dEgXp67KVlqwn4BL-w1kWw&ts=1505837086
5. Now my flash screen is in white background. I can enter boot loader.
6. Then again i installed twrp via adb and selected recovery mode. But when i choose recovery, the phone goes into boot loop.
Please help.. One doubt: MY Phone is ASUS ZENFONE 2 Z00AD.

No hardware buttons work!!

Hi
Could some one tell me why i cant get in recovery or factory mode with hardware buttons, i am on stock 10d with twrp recovery installed and rooted wirh super su through twrp. I installed twrp through adb with normal command and device works just fine through reboot apps from os, boots in recovery, fastboot etc just fine, same through adb commands.
But there's no hardware combo or anyrhing working when trying to enter recovery or factory reset working at all?
Tryied every combo i could find saying how to from internet.
It just boot up in os as usual.
And phone dosen't reset while holding power button for 10s + either
It's a bit scary because bootloop is going to come eventually for sure and then there's no rescuing avalible
Could someone plz tell me whats going on?
Im new to g4 so, some help would be nice.
Thanks in advace
It's a bit tricky, to be honest.
• Power off your phone
• Hold "Volume-Down" and keep your "Power-Button" pressed. So you should keep both pressed, until the 1st LG logo appears
• Now just leave the "Power-Button" for ~1 second whilst kept the "Volume-Down" button still pressed, press now the "Power-Button" again and keep holding it
You're now forced to deal with the standard-ui from LG. Go to "Yes" and again "Yes". TWRP now boots and you should be fine .
Edit: Just my tiny story... I watched several videos and also had a nasty bootloop. I was afraid, I now bricked my phone. But a nice user showed me this way and this was the only way, I got my phone recovered.

Boot Loop

Ok I feel stupid. I have been this stuff for a while but I just got a new in box Note 4 to play with and trying to root. CID is 15 and it came with 6.0.1 and I just Odin to 5.1.1 and it just boot loops. I tried running the Odin several times and same thing.
I flashed this file 5.1.1 N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar
What am I missing here?
Not alot of help in this Note 4 area... You all are to quiet. LOL It seems like the rooting community is going away. I myself will not own a phone that is not rooted. Running the Moto X Pre as my daily driver and it's an awesome phone.
So I will post what I did to fix this Boot Loop Issue after trying to downgrade firmware to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1. I picked up the Note 4 from a local sell new in box for 100 bucks I figured what the hell kool phone to play with.
Ok I just flashed this official verizon 5.1.1 firmware N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar with Odin 3.12 again
So After I got done flashing this firmware I did these steps.
1. Turn phone off completely.
2. To start the phone, press the following keys simultaneously: Power Button, Home Button, Volume +
3. When the first logo can be seen on the screen, release the power button, but hold the Home button and the Volume + button pressed
4. It now appears on the screen of your phone, a small menu. Navigate with the Volume + and Volume - keys. An entry is selected by the Power Button
5. Select in this menu now "Wipe Cache Partition".
6. After you have selected the entry the Wipe cache is flushed. This takes a few seconds. Then it automatically returns to the small menu.
7. Now select the top entry with "Reboot Now"
Also while I was in that menu area I went ahead and did a factory reset wipe all data.
My Verizon Note 4 is now on 5.1.1 and works.
Now I will continue to root this thing.

so the bootloop was caused by ? im gonna guess dmverity but it could also just been misflashed ....failing to uncheck the reboot upon flash option for example . powering the phone all the way down then into recovery ....id like to go with misflash if you had failed dmverity you would have seen a red message in recovery stating that was the case
Boot Loop help or can I pay someone to fix?
So my wife's Note 4, not rooted. Must have failed during a forced update. It's gone into 2 types of boot loops. Either it says 'Recovery boot' only, with no recovery menu, followed by the 'Galaxy' screen, and then back to the boot loop. Or it shows the Galaxy screen, and just barely begins to initialize the 'Samsung' logo with the 'S' first, and then back to boot loop.
I've tried about 3 different firmwares through Odin, including successful ones that 'Pass'. And it still exhibits the same loops. I've tried bootloaders in Odin, about anything you can imagine. It's clearly not bricked, but I cannot for the life of me make progress.
The old battery I thought was going bad (a lot of bad battery problems with loops), and I bought a new battery. But given it will only loop (outside of the download screen), I can't even get the batteries to charge because it's either looping or on download screen.
Any questions or ideas? Or is there a user who is an expert I can ship and pay to fix?
I'm a novice in large part. Thanks guys.

Hi when in odin ensure you untick reboot after flash . Power it all the way off upon sucessful flash then power it back on into recovery (hold up volume power home) wipe cache wipe dalvik reboot system. The power off is absolutely crucial and the most common flash error. If this doesnt work repost shouldnt be too hard to fix things is damn near unbrickable
If you change from 6.0 to old 5.1.1 firmware with Odin it will go into bootloop. You must do factory reset, than use Odin to flash 5.1.1 and than do another factory reset.
