I currently have the 10, but I'm deeply missing the M9's Boomsound speakers and its design. Plus, I think I can live with the 1080P screen of the M9 over the 10's 2K, and I'm sure the crappy battery life of the M9 can be solved with a custom ROM. I'm very undecided. I've owned both phones. Is the M9 still worth it? I can get it brand-new from eBay for £209/$261 from Hong Kong.
Does the M9 have a 24bit DAC just like the 10?
Wow you'd be insane to pick an m9 over a 10

The camera on the M9 is terrible. But cameras don't matter to me. That's a feature i don't care about.
In terms of audio, the main advantage the 10 has over the M9 is HTC did a much better job at isolating the analog signal. Even so, your not going to notice the improvement in distortion/noise unless you have some high quality headphones/music. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm guessing the thing you miss most is the front facing speakers?....If so i'd recommend using an audio mod (if you haven't already), such as Viper4Arise, to tweak the output of the 10's speakers to your liking.

If you don't care about the camera, i'd get the HTC One M8. It's a crap load better than the M9, actually quicker, much better battery life, and better speakers too.
HTC M9 is an utter fail. Yes the speakers are amazing and all, but every other area is a huge downgrade. Thermals even when 'improved' with my Thermal mod stands nothing beside any S820 phone, save for the HTC 10. Battery life will be crap the whole time and you will be so happy to get 4 hrs SOT while even the M8 can get something like 6 or 7.
Without further going in that hell of a phone, don't buy it over the 10, unless you are a mad man seeking for troubles. If the M9 can be bearable, I wouldn't have typed that from a OnePlus 3
Enjoy your masterpiece please.
Honestly, don't count on rooting to fix all your issues, by that logic, wouldn't the 10 be even better when rooted with similar modifications? I'm trying not to be harsh, but I bought the One X in the past relying on XDA to fix the performance and heat issues of the Tegra 3 processor. Bought it, rooted it, installed all the latest rom and kernel, immediately regretted my purchase.
A few years later, I'm moving from an S6 Edge to the 10 and couldn't be happier, HTC have really sorted out the software and the S820 is a pretty solid processor in general. I don't miss the front facing speakers from the M8 thaaat much, the 10's speakers are clearer even if they do have about 1-2 notches less volume. The screen is soo much better than the M8 and M9, almost as good as the S6, not due to the resolution, but the contrast and calibration, the white point is so white. I don't even feel the need to root the 10, it's already super fast and snappy, batterylife is good, not great and I have experienced no heat issues at all, it is much cooler than my HTC M8. In short, don't touch the M9, get the 10, you won't regret it.
Also, a note on audio, yes the M9 will play 24bit audio at 192KHz, but the actual quality of the components is not great, it's just using the stock Qualcomm DAC with a discrete AMP like the M8. The 10 sounds a lot better than the M8 through the headphone jack, which was already a very solid phone, in addition, there's absolutely no background hiss with my sensitive in-ear monitors. It's replaced my Sony NW-A25 entirely, I think it just sounds better all around, but my Oppo HA-2 still has an edge in terms of refinement, detail retrieval and dynamic range. You don't need an amazing set of earphone/headphones to notice, my Meze 11 Neo's which are only around $60 easily pick up the differences, hell my $5 VE Monks sound better out of the 10 as opposed to the M8. If you care about audio, you will notice a difference, if you just want it because reviewers say it is better than you will likely be underwhelmed.
The 10 it is, then. I'll keep my 10. Rest in peace, M9.

Wise choice my friend.
The M9 is just horrid, you'd have been so let down. I had an M9 that sat in a drawer while I used my M8 until the 10.

I see the point, but no you shouldn't, the m9 was the last problem child from htc, they've fixed nearly everything, from here on in flagships should be top notch.

I am in a tricky situation here.
I need to choose between Desire (not HD) and Galaxy S.
I also considered Iphone 4, but because of much problems, i rather dont.
Is the battery life of Desire Poor? (i had/have X10i(the big one) and i had enough battery for 2 days. is Desire better or worse than x10i?
Is the screen bad in sunlight?
and which one would you choose?
tnx for replies..
I have no experience of the SGS but I love my Desire. I get over 24hrs usage with most apps syncing each hour. The screen is poor in direct sunlight but all phones are
I've had both. The sgs is nice for the screen but I hated that the build quality wasn't great and there was no led notification. The sense UI on the desire is a lot nicer and the desire is smoother through transitions
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
My wife has an SGS, I have a Desire. The SGS screen is awesome but the lack of LED notification is a big problem as you have to unlock it to see if you have any messages etc. She can't even get 18 hours out of it which annoys her no end so she is always having to charge it. She isn't even a techy so all she does is call/text and email, no MP3 playing or browsing etc. My desire always lasts 2 days (I turn it off at night 11pm-8am).
SGS is so close to being great but the battery life, lack of LED and less dev support than HTC devices makes it less desirable than the desire IMHO!
tnx someone else have experience with Desire or all of them?
Desire HD? worth the wait? (its maybe a little to big), In norway we have to vait to end of december or longer for Desire HD.
Anyone tried Iphone 4? (calendar, notes(notification on these?))
the SGS best plus is the graphics card gaming performance
bad points is the plastic build, iphone copy design and iphone copy interface, you get high quality rigid feel with the metal in the desire
SGS camera has no flash and you can get excellent results with the desire camera provided you reduce the digital sharpness
like EDDY said camera can last you a day with the desire slightly more if you use it less
super amoled is great but you get higher pixel density with an SLCD desire, pretty close to the retina dsiplay
slightly better software support with the desire

Desire HD is bigger and heavier, so its up to your taste
screen is 4.3inch but standard LCD, while desire is nicer amoled or SLCD higher with pixel density too
Desire battery is better than Desire HD
Desire HD has a much improved interface, slightly better camera, better 720p recording, it also sports a much better graphics card for gaming, more internal storage and more RAM, same processor speed
My friend bought Desire and after a couple of days he regret and got the SGS.
I saw the phone, played with him a little bit and I got the following results, some of things you already mentioned and some not:
- SGS has bigger screen & less weight. Total weight of 135g against 119g. It really feels lighter in your hand but as you all said, It's all thanks to the poor plastic design. Screen is 4.0 inches instend of 3.7. Super AMOLED vs. SLCD, I think both are very impressive screens.
- SGS has more internal storage than desire. It comes with 8\16GB internal + microSD extension. Despite the Desire, You don't need any of S-OFF N1 Table, A2SD or something like this.
- The latest technology in smartphones by far - Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA & Built-in Wi-Fi N.
- SGS's GPU is much more stronger. Playing games is way more smooth. Playing 720p movies without an effort.
- Camera - I think both phones has pretty much nice pictures, 5MP. SGS has no flash but nightmode also does the job. SGS has 720p faster fps recording.
- SGS has also something that almost no one talk about - LOW SAR. According to SAR EU, Desire has 0.72 W/kg (head) against SGS that has 0.24 W/kg (head). Pretty big difference.
- SGS has FULL multi-touch support. Desire's lack of multi-touch support, it can understand up to 2 fingers and that's also defective.
- First of all, as a phone - SGS's speaker is clearer than the Desire. Desire's speaker is noisy when playing at full volume. Recording quality is also much better in SGS. Desire's recording quality is poor, Both sound recording and video recording. Desire uses old AMR format.
- Battery Life. SGS's has 1500 mAh and Desire 1400 mAh. I think the difference isn't about the battery but because of the "Smart battery use" of Samsung. You can reach up to 2-3 days with the SGS. Desire's battery will last for something about 1 day.
If the following things doesn't bother you then buy the SGS:
- SGS doesn't have Camera flash.
- SGS's design is mainly poor plastic.
- SGS doesn't have LED notification.
- SGS interface is an "iPhone" copy.
- One of the disadvantages for me, at least, there isn't CyanogenMod port yet.
- Less android programs support as I know.
- "Menu" and "Back" buttons are touch, It might bother you at some point.
- After all, It's Samsung and I believe this is the only phone which they can compete with.
In conclusion, take your time and watch reviews of both phones on YouTube before you decide.
Also calendar and notes on the iPhone are good but android easily beats the iPhone in notifications. There is no LED light and if you get a text when your in the middle of doing something on your phone it interupts it.
The SGS GPS doesn't work properly and you can't use it for driving. Lags out, jumps around and is frankly pathetic.
No, it really is properly ****ed.
Two words - "XDA developers". Long ago i had HTC Tytn, great XDA roms and support. After some time I bought samsung i8000 and it was wrong. Samsung forget about this phone almost instantly - no video driver "we don't have time so FU".
This time I even don't consider - HTC phone, nothing else.
SGS has that lag, which has been fixed, but my cousin still complains that its slow sometimes.
My desire can last me up to 3 days on average days use, 100 texts a day, a couple calls here and there, using a custom rom mind you.
Touchwiz isnt all that great, and the build feels way too cheap...
oh and it looks like an iphone... wouldnt want to be mistaken for one of those things now would we.
1. Why jump from x10 to SGS or Desire when x10 is good enough after it got 2.1 update aaand you don't get much new stuff...
2. SGS looks better on paper, but it is nowadays all about software and SGS sucks on that, laggy, all appz don't work on it etc.
My 2 friends have SGS and have read others problems on my local forums...
Just got my Desire today. Previously had x10. I'm really impressed with it. I was also considering the galaxy but desire was cheaper and to be honest I think it is a better phone when it comes to specs and build quality overall. I think galaxy may look prettier though and has the Iphone look which attracts people. You should be happy with whichever you choose though, both great phones but desire was for me...
Oh just bear in mind that galaxy does video calling. So even though it lacks a notification led it does have front camera...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have had experiences with both, SGS has a flawless multi-touch screen and an extremely powerful GPU as well as looks much modern. So gaming on it would be quite better than Desire, but it has a crap GPS, no LED notification, Samsung's over-bloated crapware(God please burn Kies in the hell), lag problems which require fixing, chances of getting a phone with the 3 button mode disabled(I'm not sure if they fixed it yet), comparatively worse developer community. I owned the SGS for 3 days, got another SGS in replacement due to me having problems, the replacement had even more problems so I got the Desire.
Desire has a far superior developer community especially since hardware wise it is very similar to Nexus One and we can have updates even before HTC announces them officially(If HTC ever does), its build quality is better, has a flash which is a very good torch and much more customization possibilities(MIUI, Sense, AOSP, Sense HD etc).
As far as battery life goes, I got my phone on a single charge for 1 day 4 hours and still got about 40% battery left.

Because my X10i is in for repair for the third time for 2 failure, and they can't seem to fix these 2 failures (sparkling in-ear speaker, and burned smell on the back of the battery which causes instant restarts)
The only thing they to at repair is to reinstall SW, which is very strange, since i had reinstalled 1 day before i send it in for repair, i also updated to 2.1 and they updated my X10i to 2.1 a day after...... Not very happy whit that.
It seems like i'm gonna get the Desire, because i need good calendar, notes(so therefore the Sense UI is very good) and i don't play games(not a big deal for me).
Is Iphone 4 something to consider(or is Desire a phone with less problems(or/and better platform))???
The most important part for me is a phone with "No" problems", good in-ear speaker and good calendar(and ofcourse apps, for internet radio, maps, GPS, and XDA)
Tnx for helping me with my phone choice
I forgot something.
Do Desire have a Multitouch Bug? and is it noticeable, i think multitouch is only gonna be used by me while browsing or watching pictures, and if the bug is small, it's no problem.
Is there any other known bugs? and is The 3.5 mm jack sound quality good, and can it support MW600 from SE X10i?

It does have a hardware "bug" because of how it's made, but you will never notice it unless you really try to do it. The 3.5mm jack sound quality is pretty good with my AKG518s, and I also have an MW600. It works great with the MW600. In your position my choice would be between the Desire, because the Galaxy S is just a poor quality model, and the iPhone 4. If you have the money and you don't like tweaking, go for the iPhone 4. If you are a tweak freak like most guys here then certainly pick the Desire.

I've had all three phones, though I've sold my X10 way before the 2.1 update which should've made things better.
Rant:
I have just about the same problems with the X10 as with the SGS, both have excellent hardware... but fail to deliver.
- The X10 and the SGS both have a bigger (1500mah) battery than my desire, so why don't they last as long as the Desire?
- They all have a 1ghz processor, than why do the SGS and the X10 lag like hell, and the Desire never...ever...? (btw, the SGS lag is way worse than the X10, samsung keeps saying they'll fix it but they don't).
- The X10 is made by SE which make the walkman-phones, then why does playing music (through good headphones) sound so horrible? Even worse, the SGS has a super-duper capable audio chip, an equalizer, and dolby digital; why can't I get a decent sound out of this thing? I have fiddled with the settings for ages, but it's just not going to give decent audio output.
- If you ever use GPS, the SGS is out of the question, it just doesn't work. It locks quickly, but then starts jumping all over the map, it's useless.
- I like the screen of both the SGS and the X10 better than the one on the Desire; the SGS's samoled is truly gorgeous, and the LCD of the X10 is MAD-bright! (always readable in bright sunlight). While the Desire has a pinkish, not to bright amoled.
Conclusion:
I always wanted to stay way from the desire because I use it outside all the time because I travel allot, so I wanted good audio (an equalizer) for listening to music. I also wanted to be able to see what's on the screen however bright the sun is. And I wanted the battery to last a day, and the Desire has a relatively small one.
But being frustrated like hell by the X10 and the SGS, due to the lag/audio/battery life I have gotten an HTC Desire, and what a wonderfull device it is! no more lags...the battery outlasts the other two easlily... and the sound quality (playing music) is better out of the box without fiddling endlessly with the settings. Even the screen visibility outside is better than I expected! This phone is SO much better than the X10 and SGS, it's amazing!
Advice:
buy the desire!
My experience as a AT&T rep allowed me to play with both the iPhone 4 and the Samsung galaxy s, captivate.
The iPhone is ok for the simpleton, non technical, non customizable, 2 year from retirement folks. No offense to anyone.
The sgs, captivate, is much nicer than the iPhone, but many folks don't know they have had a silent recall due to gps and data connect problems. I have not seen too many come in but its there. Most of these folks are non iPhone previous owners, or just despise Apple from their experience.
The sgs still does not have froyo, and the interface is an iPhone wanna be. But a much better choice than the iPhone. As for Rom support from what I have heard is minimul, but folks here do their best as always.
So I own a desire I do have it on the ATT network via Telstra branding. The southeast market is currently migrating to sole 850 mhz 3g, so currently on edge, but its still worth the wait till 2011.
Also since upgrading, and rooting my phone its worth about 150 more than what I paid via eBay. Never expected it to increase in value so I am pleased.
I would base my decision on carrier network support, xda support, and devices material and construction. As a bonus, if you are on ATT you can have unlimited data for 15 dollars, since the imei is not registered with the company. So 15 bucks a month savings makes the difference over the length of a contract wich you should not need by supplying your own equipment.
Advice: buy an HTC Desire with AMBLED if available still.

Hiya, I am wanting to replace my HTc One M7 as the screen has cracked and the battery life is now woeful, it is no longer lasting the day
I was looking at the Sony Z2 and hear the battery is awesome but saw the LG G3 and it looks very nice indeed
It's hard to find comparisons of the HTC One to the LG. G3 as all the comparisons are to the M8
I don't want to be any worse off with the battery life but don't consider myself a heavy user
Has anyone gone from the M7 to G3???
I came from the m7 too, had the phone a week tomorrow, what sort of comparisons you interested in?
Hiya, mainly the battery life, I'm finding my HTC Really Poor now
Personally I'd say the battery life is good. I stream spotify on 4g in both morning and evening commute (hour in total). Play games through my lunch (about 40 mins) have push emails synced and check fbook and g+ regularly on here. Still has around 40-50% by the time I get home. Having around 4 hour screen on time at 70% brightness each day. Currently at 54% after 7 hours on time, 2 and a bit hours screen on time of which half hour was dead trigger 2 and 15 mins other games. With half hour spotify streaming (screen off).
Thanks, what would your HTC be on with similar use??
This would be my upgrade path as well because I current have a HTC One M7. My questions would be-
What are the speakers like on the G3 compared to the M7?
Are you missing Blinkfeed at all?
In general, are there any things from the HTC that you are missing with the LG?
Hard to compare really because I always had the power save on with the m7 because I didn't have as much data allowance and had my spotify tracks downloaded. Screen brightness was around 50%. Saying that I would go home and stream Netflix but I'd have it charging through the mhl to the tv at the same time so I couldn't say to be honest. I'd sometimes plug the HTC in at work to top it up a bit. I personally think this phone holds out more than the m7 did.

I went from M7 to G3. Its been about a week now.
Battery life is definitely better on G3, and I used to have power saver on my M7 permanently. As you might expect, the screen on time does the most damage to the G3 battery, so on weekends when I am not checking the phone all the time, the battery hardly goes down at all. During the week, I still charge the phone every 24 hours, but I could make that stretch if I wanted to. Therefore, I am assuming the G3 battery compared to other flagships may not be too special or even below average maybe, but it is much better than M7 in my experience anyway.

Yes, am missing Blinkfeed, and it was nice to have an all metal M7 in my hands, however those sacrifices to get the G3 have given me a longer battery life, and most important for me, a bigger screen, so movie watching, reading sites, typing, etc, are much better for me, and it still fits nicely into my pockets. Camera is great, and I dont have to worry about space anymore with a 64gb card inside !! And yes, once I have knackered the battery, I can just buy a new one ! Brightness is fine on G3, a tad less than M7 I think, but not an issue.
I am using Flipboard and Taptu widgets for news feeds now, but they are not a patch on Blinkfeed imho.......doesnt matter. Aparently, if I root and do a couple of other things, I could get Blinkfeed onto the G3, but I wont bother for now.

Thanks for that, actually you can download a 'lite' version of a Blinkfeed launcher if you look through the xda forums, without having to root. It's not quite the full experience on the HTC though, as you might expect.
What about the sound?

Ohhh, I would love a 'lite' blinkfeed if I could just install it like any other app......do you know where abouts in the forums I should search ?
I havent done much testing for sound unfortunately, but then again, I seldom used the M7 speakers to the max either. I did a little youtube and changed the ringtones and played a bit of an MP3, but I didnt max out the sound, so cannot really give you much info.
However, in that short span of time, the sound was fine, good, great, not issues for me......I dont expect them to be as loud as the M8 , but they sound fine and in normal day-to-day they are good and clear and I assume louder than most phones at least. Doubt they would be show-off point for the phone however (front speakers and stereo makes more sense, but I would rather have a smaller bezel phone)

i had m8 now g3 i would say about the same
I had a m8. I would say battery life is close to it. M8 bit more fluid ui, the sound on this device is very reasonabley loud and clear. Ir blaster i find thr same but i like the g3 app better. Camera much better than m8 this was a biggie for me. Brightness better on m8 but no biggie i never have it above 90% anyway.wireless charging works lovely on the g3 . I no i carnt give u advice on comparing to a m7 but as the m8 is htc flagship and better than m7 u get thr jist. All in all if the g3 had maybe a slighly bigger battery and a bit more fluid ui this would tick all my boxs for sure.

Sorry, never needed to use the ir blaster on m7 or the g3 now, so can't compare.
I've owned the M8 and finally decided to get the M9 and the Boomsound speakers seem to be a let down so far.
I have it set to Music mode and full volume and can barely hear anything. My wife Lg G4 and Sisters Note 4 seem to o be a lot louder. Any fix?

I've owned the M8 and finally decided to get the M9 and the Boomsound speakers seem to be a let down so far.
I have it set to Music mode and full volume and can barely hear anything. My wife Lg G4 and Sisters Note 4 seem to o be a lot louder. Any fix?

Try to switch from Dolby Theatre to Dolby Music.
If you got root then install Viper4Android and boost the speaker with the tweaks, but it looks like HTC have put a hardware limiter, so above a certain level of tweaking the speakers will keep the same volume, it's still better than stock volume though.

Has anybody tried the first link (Dolby Atmos) with Viper Rom? Any side effects besides battery drain? Glitches?
I installed the second link mod (Dragon soundmod)..No Luck. The boomsound speakers are NOT loud at all. I love the dual speakers but I prefer the loudness of the Lg G4 back speaker.
With the name BOOMSOUND and all the praises reviewers give this phones speakers, I expected more.
I prefer some quality with my loudness.
Try a song with a higher bit rate or a higher grade video with decent audio quality. You'll see that it is actually loud, HTC just haven't allowed people to break their speakers, something which has happened time and time again since the m7. In terms of audio quality its still the best there is, in terms of loudness, no there's phones out there, including the iPhone 6 with louder speakers. Maybe they could have given more. I'm still happy with it. if I was upset I'd use a mod, but if its going to affect the battery then no I wouldn't bother. Acid mod was good iirc

Are you sure you don't have a hardware problem? Saying "I can barely hear them" strikes me as odd. My speakers aren't deafening, and they're certainly not as loud as a dedicated portable speaker (I have the HK One and use that often), but the M9 is definitely louder than other phones I've seen. My son has a G3 and is always telling he wishes he had the M9 speakers on his.
You might take it back to the store and compare with a floor model.

thats what i was thinking about doing. I just watched a video on youtube that compares the HTC M9 to the Xperia Z3, GS6 and iphone 6. The HTC didn't hit as high on the decibel scale as the GS6, so i dont think its a hardware issue but im definitely gonna stop by a tmobile or something and compare.
i installed the dolby atmos mod and it is better than it used to be.

Yeah, the biggest let down is the volume of the M9 IMO..... It sounds better, but just isn't as loud. I use mine all the time around the office or at home when doing some things around the house and don't want to use my Bluetooth speaker or ear-buds, so the lower volume killed that option for me.
I started using the Dolby Atmos (first link) on my M9 last week..... Made a world of difference! You get a slight volume boost, plus more global EQ options and it works along with the stock Dolby/Boomsound of the M9. I don't really notice much of a drain, unless I'm doing nothing but listening to music, and at that it's maybe an extra percentage or two per hour. When not using it, I can't tell a difference? You can also turn it off/bypass it. If you don't like it, you can flash the remove zip to take it off.
There's an option in it called "Volume Leveler" that really increases the volume, but you can hear some "funky" compression kick in on loud parts and some distortion..... but for general listening, it works best as a volume boost. I'm actually afraid to turn it up 100% in that mode for the sake of blowing a speaker?
I have the same issue but on comparison to an m7 they are exactly the same. If any difference the m9 is clearer but if you're not too good at hearing then you might not notice any difference at all.

Hey guys. I have an LG G5 currently and am getting the HTC 10 delivered tomorrow as the LG G5 GPS issue is driving me mad. What I'm wondering is, is the HTC 10 a better phone? Naturally most of you are going to be a bit bias due to owning the 10, but try and be as unbiased a possible. As I said my main issue with the G5 is that my gps is very hit and miss (miss 70% of the time) although at first it worked flawlessly for a couple of months.
I'm liking the sounds of the built in DAC and I love the build quality of the HTC 10 too. I hear the camera has been improved since launch thanks to software update? I've also heard about a pink tint to the screen, is this with all HTC 10 handsets or just the odd one?
I haven't owned a HTC since I had the M7 on release and I usually keep a phone from anywhere between 2 months to 6 months so it was easily a few years back I think? but I need a keeper for 2 full years this time around. The G5 I've had for maybe 3 months and was supposed to be my 2 year keeper lol.
Also how easy is rooting and flashing on the HTC 10? The reason I switched from the M7 was because for some reason after flashing some kernels and ROMs for months my signal had broke and WiFi had broke too with both dropping in and out every 30 seconds. I did eventually fix this but that was a couple months after getting a new phone and then I sold the M7
Thanks guys
Hi
I've just moved to the HTC 10 from the LG G5, a few days actually, and I find myself missing the G5.
The speaker on the G5 is the biggest thing I miss, it really blows the H10 away. I will be using a BT speaker for gaming and chilling when i'm away from headphones though now I've got the H10. (EDIT: this one might be up for discussion or you can judge for yourself when you get your 10, maybe even advise me if my 10 is faulty, as my 10 speaker is 50% quieter than the LG and has no bass)
The wide angle lens is the other, and the G5 camera's in general. The manual mode on the 10 is awful and in my opinion useless, but Auto produces decent shots. I will be picking up one of the lenses with Macro, Wide and Fish eye lenses from ebay see if I can get around that. The G5 is slightly smoother and quicker and I miss the G5 keyboard lol.
Aside from that the HTC 10 is a great phone, it's almost as fast as the G5 although it gets a tad hot, music through headphones is insanely loud and great quality, GPS I haven't tried yet.
Oddly enough the GPS, wifi and 4G performance on the LG G5 was the best of any phone I've used, so I don't understand the GPS issues people used to get.
Given a chance, and now after rooting and installing Viper again, I think i'll get over my missing the G5 but for now, I think the G5 is a better phone. (I am contemplating buying another to use as my work phone)
As you're getting the 10 delivered, you will work all this out anyway and probably be more than happy with the 10.
I went from a G5 to a HTC 10. The only thing I missed was the wide angle camera but thats obvious lol. The build on the 10 is just so godly. Especially coming from the G5. Its just refreshing and makes you happy when you hold it over the G5. Its pretty damn awesome lol. Other than that everything else is on par really. Well the speakers and dac are better on the 10. The screens about even probly. The battery life is better on the 10. The skins better on the 10. Over all the 10 is better in every way except it doesnt have the wide angle cam, so if you never used it youll be fine

Do you think it's possible my speakers are faulty? I only ask because they're about 50% as loud as my old G5 and aside from clarity they have zero bass. I'm wondering if I should replace within 14 days? (Sorry for sidetracking the thread)

idk hard to tell. I mean the g5 had a really loud speaker on the bottom. But having dual speakers on the 10 was my favorite.

Well if possible I want to leave the delivery sealed and send the HTC 10 back if people think the G5 is a better phone. Like I said my only issue with the G5 is its poor GPS (constantly searching) so I can't navigate! Which I do quite a lot Lol. I also only get around 3-4hrs screen on time. I've seen people on the HTC 10 getting 7-8hrs SoT

unless you want the wide angle camera the HTC 10 is better in every way imo. LG also has bad quality control lately with the G4 bootlooping, the V10 bootlooping and some issues on the G5. DEF go the HTC 10 over G5. Also the HTC 10 is likely to be the first phone to upgrade to nougat that isnt a nexus device. Since you know there making the pixels
Can not say I ever had a G5 but did have the G2 and G4, both garbage, neither lasted a year without major issue.
Thanks I might keep the HTC 10 when it arrives tomorrow then. But anymore input from other people before then would be good too
I currently have both phones but I prefer the HTC 10. The Bui!d quality is better on the HTC, the G5 seems to scratch a lot easier. I have a couple little scratches on it even though I really take care of my phones. The HTC looks brand new. I like the dual speakers (sorta dual I guess) as they sound better when watching movies. The G5 definitely gets louder tho. The sound from the headphone jack is also better on the 10, but if you have the hifi DAC for the G5 they sound pretty much the same (awesome that is). The wide angle camera (really just the camera function in general) on the G5 is probably the one thing it has over the HTC.
Everything else between these to phones comes down to preference. The HTC is closer to stock Android, but LG's layering on top of the OS introduces some neat functionality. Speed, screen, processing, storage are all pretty similar. HTC does adoptive storage out if the gate though.
Rooting I believe us also better someone the HTC u less you have the LG H850.
My nod goes to the 10 if i had to choose one.
I'm keeping the HTC 10 and selling the LG g5. I really love the feel Of The HTC 10 and it's a really nice experience overall. 2nd day of use and I'm getting 5hrs SoT which is about an hour or slightly more than my G5. I will probably miss the G5 camera but I'm sure I'll get over it eventually lol.
Thanks guys.
I came from the LG G5 to the HTC 10, completely worth it imo.
I miss the G5's camera and fingerprint placement, but nothing else really.

After installing a custom ROM to remove some of the annoying issues, and V4a to improve the sound quality and speaker bass and volume, and taking some brilliant shots and video footage of a gig last night, I have changed my mind, Rooted and properly modded, the 10 is better than the G5 lol.
Stock, the G5 still has it for me and is a better out of the box experience than the 10. But Rooted and modded the 10 comes out of it's shell and really shines.

TLR go for G5 for swappable batteries.
I'm writing this on a HTC m8. I've had a great ride with this phone but really been bummed out with the non removable battery. 18 months into ownership the m8 battery started behaving weird. It drained a lot faster. Now 2+ years later it is very frustrating battey wise, when the phone gets to 30-20% it shuts down without warning. Obviously my non removable battery has reached "end of life".
I know phones with non removable batteries can be replaced but HTC one series phones have a notorious record of being one of the hardest phones to replace battery wise...not only that some have reported that other components sometimes get damaged in the attempt to replace the battery.
Don't get me wrong I love HTC, the build quality is great and I've never really had a problem with lag or any thing like that. But I wish HTC would release a phone with a removable battery then it would be perfect... Unlike others I'm not obsessed with how thin a phone should look.
I know this is about the HTC 10 vs G5 (and not HTC m8) but i would say you need to factor in how long you will have the phone for....if you're like me and like to keep a phone for 18+ months then maybe G5 is the way to go.
I'm actually waiting for the LG V20 to be released as I'll never go back to the frustration of non removable batteries no matter how good the phone is.
I'm pretty sure that in another year this HTC 10 forum will be awash with battery issue posts just like the HTC One M8 is now.

I'll echo your concerns. I tried to change my M8's battery myself. Ruined something and had to send it in for repairs. It was fixed quite cheaply and got a fresh battery installed by a professional.
Though a removable battery feels like a good option to have, let's face it, you'll only need it about once or twice in the phone's lifetime, and for those times, you can pay a little and get a professional to do it.
Of course, if you like to have spare batteries and switch them out on demand, then that's a different story.
Hello everyone! Hope I will not cause any problem opening new thread.
I currently have htc one M9 but it is in very bad condition like case is all wrecked up, camera lens is cracked (but camera works nice) and worst of all is battery life -phone shuts down when battery level falls under 30%. I do not want to replace battery as I got it replaced last November.
Recently I got opportunity to buy M8 cheap and it is in good condition with good battery life. I'm interested to hear if you guys would recommend it to me.
I see that m8 has better xda support than m9 and that is great for me as I love to mess around with flashing new things
I do not play games on phone and I'm not heavy multitask user. I will use it for messages, calls, emails and surfing the web.
Is m8 worth getting in 2018? Or should I wait longer (probably much longer) and get htc 10 when prices gets down?
If it's super cheap then go for it.
It's a 4 years old phone, so keep in mind that its best time is long gone and the device components are probably rather worn out by now.
I'm still using it. Audio quality - speakers, headphones from jack, even the microphone - are still more than enough for normal user. Speed is also acceptable, but it won't set any new speed records.

Thanks for answer. I do not doubt in sound quality. I used M7 and now M9. All of them sound great. I still have some time to make up my mind.
Yeah I bought it on feb. Still worth it. Speed is very good for a standard user. I can even play pubg mobile, asphalt etc.

Yeah. Speed should be similar to my m9. I'm still tempted to go for it.
Ram is less
Since the RAM is less in the M8 when compared to the M9 (M7 is the same), I would say you might get more lag than your current phone.

That should not be a problem. I'm not a heavy user. I always use one ore two apps max at the same time and always clear recent apps when I do not need them
Buy the M8! Don't buy the 10!
Why?
10 is/has:
- to big (at least for me) with capacitive buttons placed to low. That thing breaks my fingers!
- sh!tty ringtone/notification sound. It is only coming from the bottom (bass) speaker and it sounds ugly as hell. My notification sound on M8 sounds like a clear, crispy "blirrrrr". Same sound on 10 is a dump "blurp". Also the sound volume is much more lower.
- vibration that is hardly noticable. Nothing compared to M8.
- weaker wifi than M8
- is cutting in ny finger with its chamfer
That are the main reasons for me, why my 10 is getting dusk on my table and i changed the battery, camera module and the Simcard tray that i can use my M8 again.
If you are ok with the camera, and 16 GB internal memory is enough, go for M8. And custom Rom support is still great, with well running Oreo roms.
The 10 has the better camera, but i missed a lot of notifications because of the reasons i described above, so i will sell it.

Thanks for answer. You are right about htc 10. It has a lot of disadvantages over other one m phones. Even if I want to buy 10 it is still too expensive for my budget now. I'll be getting m8 by the end of this week. It is in great condition with good battery life so that will be nice refreshment over my m9 which is almost broken. When I get m8 I'll be waiting another week or so to see how it performs (just in case something is bad and I want to return it or sell it) before I unlock bootloader and start flashing roms...
Good decision :good:
After changing the battery of my m8 i was surprised by myself, how much i missed that size and specially that sound of m8 speakers.
Never had another phone with such great speakers!!
Finally got m8. On first impressions it is way better designed then m9. Also it feels thinner. Battery last 2 days which I never got on m9.
Here is a quick comparison between them:
For the sound quality I compared them both for some time. Also compared them to m7 which is used by my sister. M9 gives best surround sound but I can't hear it at all if playing music on all three because m8 is louder. M7 is quieter than others but still very good.
Camera is great. Especially in low light conditions. M9 can't even come near but it could be because camera lens is cracked...
As for performance, I did not notice any speed drop compered to snapdragon 810 and 3GB ram on m9. Good thing is that m8 doesn't heat nowhere near like m9.
Anyway, m8 is awesome phone and I'm really happy with it... Can't wait to flash some roms or at least debloat stock one. I forgot how bloated stock roms are ?
