Make the OnePlus 3 apt-x compatible - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hello !
I have a good apt-x pair of headphones and an apt-x compatible phone for the time being. I thought about buying the OP3(T) but I'd like not to loose this funtionality.
That's why I thougt I could buy an apt-x transmitter and plug it to the jack, in order to have apt-x !
What if i also buy an external DAC and plug the transmitter to it ? Would it work, does it make sense?
So overall, do you think it is a good option to do like that ? Do you have something better ? Or do you think that what I am saying is completely dumb ?
Thanks !

Does apt-x make such a difference that it is worth the effort?

Imo it doesn't if all you do is audio listening. But then again, I reverted back to wired cause even aptx still sucks.
On the other hand, latency response is noticeably better, so in those quite rare instances where I want to watch a movie (from tv mostly) via bt, aptx helps. I mean, without aptx, same content would be unwatchable due to audio lag.

Ah okay, never thought about the latency of bt cause whenever i watch a movie over external speakers i just use aux since the speakers are right next to the tv.

Eventually, I'm working on an apt-x support for a while without success... A lot of phones provide apt-x functionality without hw support.. It's a sw solution, but I didn't find the method to load the closed source codec like BlueZ. If I found working libraries from other phone, I'll let you know...

I swapped from my Xperia Z2 (with apt-x) to my Oneplus 3 and the only device I have that was capable of receiving apt-x Bluetooth audio is my car receiver. I noticed no difference.
Maybe car audio is a poor test because, despite my custom in-car setup with high quality receiver, amp and speakers, the car is very noisy, so some differences are lost to exhuast/wind/tyre/road noise.

Well, to be honest, if you have a great pair of headphones (not necessarily ultra high end, just mid-high headphones) that are compatible, you can hear the difference, it's a question of details imo. And low latency is definitely the first thing you notice. But no matter for music obviously. Is it a deal breaker? Well, I'm asking myself, I might reconsider the Apt-x necessity.

Really interested in that if you find something, but as long as it is a protected technology, it's a hard task that you try to achieve :/

Thanks for this feedback, but I'm not surprised that in a car the sound is the same, for the reason you told

Hi,
I've really good news... I think, I've found a perfect device to make OP3 apt-x supported...
Unfortunately, my apt-x enabled headset will be my x-mas present, so I'm not 100% sure... I need to test it... Stay tuned...

It's working on cm14.1, maybe it could work on N as well... It won't work on 6.0.1 based roms... You need 2 libraries from Moto-Z...

Wow. I mean, really?
Thank you so much for sharing, I hope it can work with the Snap dragon 821 as the OP3 is no longer available, but anyway, I could try to buy an original OP3 just for that.
Awesome, thank you

[Q] APT-X headphones

Hi, I'm using Note 2 and I'm looking for a bluetooth headphone that supports APT-X with decent sound quality on both voice call and music, any suggestions?
The Samsung HS3000 is fantastic. Great audio quality for music (especially with Apt-X), and the best sound quality for phone calls I've experienced (I've had top end Plantronics, Jabra, etc. in the past). The earbuds that come with it are not very good, but if you replace them with good ones (I use Yuin PK3) you are in for a treat. And it is only $30.

Yes, it does. I have one. Moreover, it has the CSR Apt-X logo on the package, and it is listed as supporting it on the Samsung website, as well as CSR's.

Bluetooth and apt-x support?

Does the note 8 support bluetooth apt-x?
Has anybody succefully connected with an apt-x enabled headphone?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I'd like to get confirmation of this as well. My guess is that it most likely will have APT-X since the hardware and software is nearly identical to the Note II.
The Note II sounds phenomenal connected to the Samsung HS3000 BT adapter, even driving my Grado PS500 headphones directly w/o a separate amp! I honestly can't tell the difference between the APT-X BT connection and a direct hardwired connection, even on FLAC files from audiophile labels like Chesky, EMI, Telarc, and AudioQuest, etc. But I can't hear much above 15kHz...was a drummer for too long and trashed my ears.
Unfortunately, audio stablity isn't great as Note 2 because I encounter some audio dropout even it's rare. Next week I will switch memory card to does it help.

Would Like to know this as well. Did you ever find the answer? I think i saw it on the back on the 5100 unboxing video but have not found any info on the 5110 version. If the 5100 has it, i would think the 5110 does.
No i haven't found out yet. Still looking for an answer.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The N5110 and 5100 both have AptX. My set of AptX headphones have an EQ mode that only functions when AptX isn't enabled. It works on my Thinkpad (no AptX) and not on my Note 8, leading me to the conclusion AptX is working and integrated.
Thank you. Would be nice if there was a App that could tell you. I looked and did not find one. I thought it might. I saw a unboxing of the n5100 and it was printed on the back apt-x, so i knew it had it. I figured the 5110 should also then. But thx again with the info.

Although I would tend to agree with you there could be some sources of error, which makes your conclusion tenative. I have contacted both Samsung and CSR, who has developed APTX. None of them could give a definitive answer! Part of that is the devices vary depending on region. CSR's crew in South Korea, who has worked with Samsung on their devices, will hopefully come back with a clear response. CSR will, come new Year's, set up an APTX microsite to be able to provide more detailed responses than the present general CSR site can supply.
CSR has now via Samsung confirmed the Note 8 sold in the EU has aptx despite that there's no info on the packaging or on the device over here.

Audi A4 Android unit feedback

Hello guys im creating this topic in order to find out more about this particular unit, ive already been searching the forum but i cant seem to find opinions on this unit.
Im thinking in buying this one instead of rns-e (original audi) because not only it is cheaper, but it also offers a lot more options since its an android unit. altough its a chinese unit and thats kinda what makes me get one foot behind this buy.. Is there anyone that has the same unit? or same hardware/software that could give me some positive/negative feedbacks?
The unit its this one.

Can you tell me if the screen is good against the sun light, even on full brightness? Can you actually read things there while theres light in it?
How about the sound quality? Bass?
Thanks!!!
Hi @Ezreal,
I have that one (manufacturer KGL) installed in my Exeo and it works pretty well, only thing I am missing is the radio station/song names and well, of course the navigation instructions in the FIS/DIS screen that you can get only with the RNS-E...
Everything is working fine and would recommend that 100%, although I think I remember the original radio sound better. But that was over 1 year ago when I had that.

Well thats my fear too, i know that the rns would sound a lot better than this one, but well its expensive, and old, its not even touchscreen, although its OEM and wont have problems with GPS/Sound quality..
Do you recomend giving like 360€ for a chinese radio?
RNS its like 550€ +.......
Depends on your needs... If you want to have your car full OEM, then for such a difference go for a RNS-E, but if you want to have all the possibilities that give you android, then China radio... You can install tomtom + all the apps from android for instance and is more customizable...
If you use the gps a lot, I would decide the China radio, if it is only to have MP3 + basic gps functionality + full integration then go for the original one. Your decision

The thing is. I would like to have a radio that could reproduce videos like concerts and stuff, and many more stuff.
The RNS wont read video files.. but has a really nice sound quality, which i dont know if the chinese radio has since its not OEM.
I have a radio 1 din on my A4 and has a really nice sound quality, and bass etc. Im afraid i will lose that quality if i go chinese radio and not OEM.. What do you think?

Then go for the Chinese one. RNS-E will not give you out of the box what you are willing to play.
Sound quality in the Chinese one I think can be improved via de equalizer just adjusting manually the values, but didn't tried yet several combinations. Anyway it is not bad quality sound not to choose that one because one because of that, but I think it is little bit below the standard radio. I may be wrong as it is just my point of view.

Regarding music sound, I use the app "bass eq" and really notice the difference for better

Hi, I'm looking at getting one of these for my Audi A2. Currently the only option for the A2 is to purchase A4 RNS-E and modify it to fit the dash of the A2.
The question I have, which relates to your units, is that the Eirisn ES2028A states a resolution of 1024x600, and the pumpkin 11-C1220-UK-A states a resolution of 800x480.
Can anyone confirm if the Erisin does actually have a higher resolution screen, as I was on the understanding that they are all made by the same company (HuiFei), then distributed by different resellers (Pumpkin, Erisin, Eonon, Joying, etc).
Any help would be appreciated.

Well according to ebay, pumpkin is 800x, I think the others are all 1024x, but cant confirm 100%
Thank you for the quick reply.
Is it worth going for the higher resolution screen?
I've seen more info about Pumpkin versions than Erisin, so wasn't sure if it was worth going for the lower resolution screen and getting a possibly more robust headunit.
I'll keep an eye on the Erisin units then, unless the others update their screens.

Well i dont think its a huge diference between resolutions since the screen is only 7"..
If it was a TV i would go for higher resolution, but again, i can be wrong because i never saw both standing near me so i could test it.. I would wait for experts to come and take our doubts out..
But the price its kinda the same.. the 800 one its the same (sometimes bigger) than the 1024.. according to ebay..

In my A3, I have had to fade the sound mostly to the back and then crank up the volume a bit. With the addition of Viper4Android app, I have been able to make a pretty good sound stage... but the original Audi Concert audio system still sounded better IMO.

For sure, it's nice to have another Audi on here with the same issues... my volume level is constantly up to about half (15) just to hear anything, then up to like 25 with the windows down and rolling.
Viper4Android installed, with the stock firmware EQ's basically all the way up and the "loud" setting on, has made a significant difference. I'm not sure why V4A says you don't have root... but I would reinstall it right after doing the root password and adb password in the system settings. I have constant root on the Malaysk ROM, so I am not sure.
I am also thinking about hitting up the guys on this website... http://enfigcarstereo.com/audi_radio_installation.html . They have all sorts of aftermarket gadgets for our Audi's that help overcome aftermarket stereo issues. I am looking at the "Enfig RWH-AUD2-HILO" as a possible solution for the low audio/factory amp problem.

Sound quality / chip

Hey guys,
maybe some of u can help me.
Im interested in the sound/audio/music quality of the OP3 in compination with headphones.
I know the quality of a Samsung S2 and S4 (both not with Wolfson chip) and i know the S3 and S5 have a variety with a Wolfson chip (never heared them).
Many people say they can hear a different between them.
Maybe some of you know the difference between them and the OP3? Or can compare?
I think about buying a OP3 and i'm really interested in the sound quality with headphones.
Thanks for any answeres and sry for my english

I believe the audio solution is the same as for all SD820 processors. Built-in 24bit 96khz support. Nothing out of the ordinary and not high-end but good enough for Spotify Premium and stored Flacs etc.
For Premium Audio you are better off adding an outboard DAC such as from Audioquest (Dragonfly) or Meridian Explorer. Built-in ad-hoc sound processors are almost always a compromise.
A few manufacturer, LG and HTC spring to mind, have better, separate built in DAC's and amplifiers which may suit you better if you don't want to shell out for separate ones.
Having said all this, I use an S7Edge (Exynos version) which, like the Snapdragon uses propriatory decoding and I am happy with it for music on the move. (I also use a full Cyrus home system and Grado Headphones for indoor listening to give some perspective).
The headphone quality w/ Bose QC25 is good and a LOT better than the 6P (stock) in my opinion. It still doesn't beat the iPhone 6s+ in loudness and overall sound quality using Spotify or Apple Music. For most people it's good enough and for others Viper should help a ton but for audiophiles and stock out of the box, it's not going to cut it.

I read that in order to install Viper one has to:
"Setup your Device
For Samsung devices,
1. Try install V4A as user app instead of system app if the latter failed doesn’t work.
2. Use Normal Mode and select V4A FX in Settings>Sound>Music Effects.
3. If don’t work, use another player rather than Samsung stock Music player.
——————–
1. ROOT your device.
2. Install busybox if doesn’t come with root.
3. Modify build.prop (Thanks [email protected])
a. Open up /system/build.prop in text editor using any file explorer with root access.
b. Change the line (If you can’t find these lines, skip this step.)
– “Ipa.decode=true” to “lpa.decode=false”
– “tunnel.decode=true” to “tunnel.decode=false”
– “lpa.use-stagefright=true” to “lpa.use-stagefright=false”"
do you know of any other good app to improve the audio quality of the op3 not needing to the root trick?
I find op3 audio rather flat.
Thanks

Viper is by far ur best bet. Using it myself and it improved the sound a lot. Everything else would just be an equalizer since ab adequate driver can't be installed without root.

it does indeed! Only way right now I can stand the poor audio quality... Hopefully V4A will work soon on OP3...
I bet some here confuse "audio quality" with "loud" or/and "much bass *LOL*
The audio quality on this device (headphone jack) IS very good, period.
If you want louder signal (and ruin your ears) or more bass (for your lame nts-nts-nts music), install V4A or something like that...

I bet some here confuse "audio quality" with "loud" or/and "much bass *LOL*
The audio quality on this device (headphone jack) IS very good, period.
If you want louder signal (and ruin your ears) or more bass (for your lame nts-nts-nts music), install V4A or something like that...

Agree, limitations are hardware based and no player will improve that. For audiophiles ... use an outboard dac/headphone amplifier.

Very disappointed with audio. What are my options

Hey guys.
I have a Pixel 2 XL and have had it for about 6 months now.
Overall I am pretty disappointed with the audio out of the phone. I am using my Ultimate Ears TF10 through a Dragonfly Black and it sounds much worse than just the TF10s through my iPhone 6s (not using the dragonfly)
I can see a few options here and seeking some feedback.
1. Root the phone (I have read on here some custom ROMs will give better gains over USB C.
2. Get a pair of Bluetooth headphones (I don't really want to do this since I already have a good set of IEMs. Also are there any restrictions with Bluetooth such as compression etc.
3. Sell the phone and go get an LG v30 with its quad DAC.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the phone but the audio is very disappointing and I spend a few hours commuting today so it's a real let down.
Let me know what everyone thinks
Thanks guys

Root using Magisk and install the following modules.
Viper4Android FX Materialized
Ainur Sauron
Audio Compatibility Patch
Audio Modification Library
Those four modules should improve the sound quality.

I am surprised you are having such a bad expierience.
The USB only audio (no headset jack) advantage is that you can use better DAC/Amps than on a regular smartphone.
My measurements of the various ones out there all show pretty decent specs (with some exceptions).
The stock Google dongle is excellent (it's a custom Realtec chip), I am testing the new one this weekend. Sure, using my gain control app will get you a bit cleaner tracing but whether that's audible or not, hard to say.
Apt X bluetooth with the Mee BT adapter is also very good.
I wonder if perhaps your transducer(s) in the headphone/IEM aren't working properly. That happened to me a couple of years ago with my SE846 and it drove me nuts until I figured it out.
Another thing to check: What source are you listening to? Your own rips (and what player), Spotify, G music etc? Let me know and we can go from there, as the problems vary between each one. Do you use the on board equalizer or any equalizer? If so what gains, bands?
I just tested the new dongle and re evaluated the USB audio in Pie - the implementation is substantially better and the gains are now properly optimized.
So, I don't think your issue is a Dac dongle problem, unless it is defective.
Thanks for the help so far guys.
Source is Spotify 320 kbps.
I don't think it's the headphones as it sounds fine when I plug back into my iPhone.
I might do some more testing this afternoon when I get home as my wife has the same phone.
I also have a pair of MEE X7 Bluetooth earphones and I am more impressed with these via Bluetooth (yes they are boomy but I can tell that the Bluetooth dac isn't being restricted)
I'll fill in once I have tested on my wife's phone tonight

Considering I'm on Android 9 as we speak, yes.

I don't exactly advertise it. ?
I'm running those same audio mods and have no complaints with sound... Are you sure you have everything enabled in magisk property? Is V4A showing "processing =yes" when you are playing music?
My P2XL is not rooted and on Pie.
The only thing I've really missed, so far, is Dolby Atmos.
Since it's not available for Pie, I've been holding off rooting.
While searching for an audio booster, I found this app. Believe it, or not, it sounds almost as good as Dolby Atmos. I'm still tweaking it.
