Did you perform a factory reset in recovery before flashing the rom? If not to that. When you switched from stock to custom rom did you wipe your inernal storage. If not do that aswell
Is your device decrypted or encrypted?

Well, maybe use TWRP and try format data? Not mean wipe data, wipe a internal storage. Or try fix via twrp aswell.

Yeah, that should do it....

Okay, formatted to ext4 then back to f2fs and now it's working thank you guys :good:

i have this same issue, so to confirm, to fix this I need to format the /data partition only, correct?
Will I be able to restore it via TWRP afterwards?

[Q] S3 freezes and basically dies at random times despite battery near full

So weird phenomenon started happening yesterday. I was on cm10.1 RC5 and hadn't done anything new to my phone but randomly throughout the day it would just go black and not respond to unlock and basically looked like it was in power off mode. Only way to get it back up is to reboot but then it will freeze in 5 mins to an hour and power off again.
I thought it was a rom issue at first so I flashed to cm10.2 the most stable one right now but it happened again. So I tried to restore to stock and after I fianlly got it to stock on android 4.12 and then when I was setting up the phone it happned again.
One thing though, I booted phone into recovery and kept it on for more than 2 hours without any random shutoffs or freezes which leads me to believe its still a software issue. Any help?

How are you wiping the phone? Which recovery are you using? it does sound ROM related, because you say it stays up in recovery. It could be what edfunkycold talked about before, Sudden Death Syndrome

I'm wiping the phone through TWRP recovery. Cleaned out the cache, data, storage, system, factory reset basically.

When you say storage are you talking about internal or external? You should not wipe internal storage, some of these files are needed for the Operating System. It's not sudden death syndrome.

Its all internal. I only just put in an external sd card to flash the rom from. I flashed the stock using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099. Don't know if that makes any different then say restoring from another method.

mm shoot I didn't know that. Since its already wiped does that effect anything? I dont think wiping internal created the problem though since it was present before I started flashing to stock.

Theres the problem. Theres a thread around here about reformatting internal storage somewhere, I'll see if I can find it, if some1 doesn't beat me to it.

When you flashed billiard's OTA stock, did you keep stock or you flashed custom recovery, and did you keep root? From my understanding, only stock recovery will erase and rewrite internal storage. I would try it again, and do not flash custom recovery or root access. Let the phone boot up without flashing root or custom recovery. If it boots, and doesn't freeze and die for awhile, then proceed with rerooting and installing custom recovery again.

Are you saying that is causing the phone to randomly die? Or do you mean its another problem?

I flashed custom recovery because I wasn't sure if I would be able to reflash or go into recovery again if the stock rom didnt work. Also I didn't root either.

The only thing I can tell you is to try flashing again, without custom recovery, it should wipe and reformat internal storage for you. I don't think custom recovery allows internal storage to be rewritten. As long as you can get into download mode, you can always use ODIN to reflash stock image, should anything happen and the stock ROM didn't work. If your not familiar with ODIN, you can try mskip's toolbox here.

Try the toolbox I posted above. It will open ODIN and flash the needed files for you. YOU MUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS VERY CAREFULLY. The thing most people miss when using this toolbox, is make sure your phone's serial number shows up, before trying anything else this toolbox will do.

Incorrect, nothing that the OS uses gets stored on the internal storage, it all goes to system... It is completely safe to wipe your internal storage when moving between ROMs, I and many others do it with every flash

Twrp requires password

So I was looking at vines when my rom (newest liquidsmooth) froze and hard booted. It got stuck at kernel splash screen (newest att kt747). Rebooted into recovery (Twrp 2.6.0.0) and it's asking for a password. I have never set a password and I can't see/install anything. Just empty folders.

Try this If TWRP is asking for a password and not booting do this: Re odin recovery twrp 2.4.4.0, wipe ALL data, odin twrp 2.6.1.0 back on to the device, reboot recovery, re-wipe data, flash desired COMPATIBLE rom.

I am in the exact same situation, from the random reboot, non-booting phone, and password in TWRP on my d2vzw. I'll try the above and let you know what I come up with.
On a different note, if I take my SD card out and reinstall it, TWRP 2.6.1.0 reads it. I will try putting a ROM and GAPPS package on it, reflashing from the SD and using GOOManager to fix my recovery. This might be a viable option B.
Hopefully one of these will do the trick.

To all besieged by the TWRP 2.6.x.x problems, it has a bug in reading or even mounting internal SD Partition. That may cause this or other issues for you. Strongly suggest reverting to 2.5.0.0

try that and let me know how it goes. and a word of advice don't flash ROM's to often because you can brick your phone and don't flash random kernals like i did so now my phone is hard bricked meaning it wont do anything but i bought a jig so it should work again
No go so far...
I've tried reflashing the PacMan Rom, which started this whole problem, from the ext-SD. It will not get past the Samsung boot screen. I tried reflashing an older, AOKP ROM with the same result.
I Odined back to TWRP 2.4.4.0, but I could not wipe any data because I still can't mount anything other than the ext-SD. I went all the way to 2.6.3.0 without success. So far, I've settled on TWRP 2.5.0.0.
I've also tried restoring an old nandroid that I had on the SD card, but it failed at "Wiping Data". At this point, I'm planning on Odin back to stock and see where that leaves me. I'd really like to access some of the data on the internal storage, but I will settle for a phone that makes calls for now. My factory image is almost downloaded. I may get to it tonight.
Again, I'll keep you posted.
---------- Post added at 02:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:43 AM ----------
I also tried flashing the newest version of CWM recovery, but it couldn't mount the internal storage either.
Has my internal data actually been physically changed to an unreadable format, or is the way it is being read from recovery(s).
Where did the encryption come from? I've flashed literally over 100 roms between my GNex and my S3 with zero issues. This is baffling.
Lastly, if I Odin back to 4.1.2, will my data be decrypted by the ROM, or could I do more harm than good?
---------- Post added at 03:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:49 AM ----------
Odined back to VRBMB1. Rebooted. Wouldn't boot. I booted into stock recovery and did a factory reset. I was finally able to boot into stock Samsung software.
I don't know how many of you are praying people, but this was an answer to my prayers!

Sorry. Been away. Managed to fix my own problem. Let me explain:
Crashed while watching video in ROM. Rebooted into recovery to clean cache and dalvik just to see if it would fix. Asked for password.
Odined 2.5 and same problem. The only way to fix was flash my t999l back to stock. Weird as hell... but I'm running better on stockorama.

TWRP 3.0.2 create /TWRP/BACKUPS/000000000000 (do not count how much 0 )
old twrp create /TWRP/BACKUPS/H30-U10
how to restore ? already mount all , or leaving the system uncheck but it only restore boot partition

Rooting success but no root on a7 (2017)

When u was rooting my a7 2017 (nougat) using odin, it said it was a success. So when i turned on the phone, it said that my phones verification has failed and i had to reset to factory defaults. So i did, and when i downloaded an app to check if i have root, it said no. The devices is official and i cant use some of my apps due to rooting. What can u do to fix this issue?
By doing a factory reset it deletes everything, including data and files. Root would have been deleted by doing this.
I think you're at least on December 2017 security patch, that's why root didn't work. There's a guide on how to root if you're on December/January security patch. Good luck!

The ROOT files are located inside the system partition, so a factory reset would not have deleted those. A Factory reset usually wipes the data, cache and dalvik cache partitions.

That should fix the not mounted problem.
Then try reflashing supersu.

Nope, anything Marshmallow and onwards is systemless root. Doesn't touch the SYSTEM partition at all unless system root is forced.
The previous poster was correct. Formatting DATA removes root.

As previously advised you are removing root by factory resetting the device.
The integrity check is failing because you have made modifications to the device.
I'm guessing the root method you are using is cf_autoroot?
My advice is to flash supersu with twrp.
It's important to format the data partition then apply the dmverity/encryption patch when rooting with supersu or you can simply FORMAT data then flash Magisk which will do it all for you.

Storage decryption

Has anyone managed to decrypt their internal storage. If it's possible, how do you do it (I think that you can do it by wiping on TWRP, but I was wondering if there were any alternatives)?

There's a certain TWRP that I'm using that has decryption working. As soon as I boot into TWRP, it asks me to input my password (or PIN, if that's the security you use for unlocking your phone) and it decrypts data and internal storage. I can't find the link at the moment but I'll share it as soon as I find it.
If I'm not mistaken, it's supposed to be for the P10 but works for our phone.

Here it is! You can use the most recent one (0.4). It only works on stock EMUI though, or that's what it says. I haven't tried to flash any custom ROMs yet.

Thanks! I'll test it out and report back when I'm on stock (which I'll probably get around to doing after a week or so).

You can try this, If you want to completely remove encryption!
All credit goes to @Mickey387 , this is his link for the Mate 9

Give him Thanks!
Read his guide but use my files. All I did was edit his files with our fstab file without encryption. Plus use a TWRP for our device. I provided one that's suppose to work good for backups. It's by askuccio at this link also.

FYI, I haven't actually tested this. I just made these files on the fly. Anyone feel free to check them out.
** Unzip TWRP file, it's compressed to upload or get it from source provided above!!
