Rooting success but no root on a7 (2017) - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

When u was rooting my a7 2017 (nougat) using odin, it said it was a success. So when i turned on the phone, it said that my phones verification has failed and i had to reset to factory defaults. So i did, and when i downloaded an app to check if i have root, it said no. The devices is official and i cant use some of my apps due to rooting. What can u do to fix this issue?

By doing a factory reset it deletes everything, including data and files. Root would have been deleted by doing this.
I think you're at least on December 2017 security patch, that's why root didn't work. There's a guide on how to root if you're on December/January security patch. Good luck!
Check @PMFRTT answer below

I want to know how you can reset the knox counter so i can use like samsung secure folder ir fitness etc

I wish I could help you, but I haven't rooted this phone and haven't tried to reset Knox on my previous devices.

The ROOT files are located inside the system partition, so a factory reset would not have deleted those. A Factory reset usually wipes the data, cache and dalvik cache partitions.

You're right, I will update my answer pointing to yours.

My phone was on nougat (7.0), and i used twrp. After it said my phones verification had failed, twrp said that my storage was not mounted

Did you flash this boot image patch: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424951049 after installing twrp?
That should fix the not mounted problem.
Then try reflashing supersu.

It keeps leading me to "the integrity verification of this device has failed, please do a facotry reset"

Hm for me flashing that file after installing twrp worked

no verity crypt helps

Nope, anything Marshmallow and onwards is systemless root. Doesn't touch the SYSTEM partition at all unless system root is forced.
The previous poster was correct. Formatting DATA removes root.

I suggest to use Magisk, development has ceased for SuperSU and its unlikely the issues will be sorted out any time soon.

As previously advised you are removing root by factory resetting the device.
The integrity check is failing because you have made modifications to the device.
I'm guessing the root method you are using is cf_autoroot?
My advice is to flash supersu with twrp.
It's important to format the data partition then apply the dmverity/encryption patch when rooting with supersu or you can simply FORMAT data then flash Magisk which will do it all for you.

I managed to fix it by flashing the factory system image from 4.4.2. A google search pointed me to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47416542&postcount=43 so a factory reset was not needed
It seems that this is a problem known to using stickmount. Is there anything you can do. I'd really like to avoid this in the future or i might have to swap to a different tool for mounting USB.
I lost root in the process with flashing the OTA but this was quickly fixed by using cf-autoroot and removing the oem unlock line then reinstalling the apk.

If you install the latest StickMount from a clean setup and are using SuperSU (this is important), it shouldn't happen again.
define clean install? Factory image? Cant do that too much data on it.
In short what i did was
- restore factory 442 system image
- sideload ota
- boot su autoroot (but with the oem unlock line removed as it already is unlocked)
- reinstall SuperSU from playstore
Havent reinstalled stickmount or any similar app yet. With that being said, if i reinstall stickmount will i be safe from this happening again, or do i need to do factory reset?

You stated you flashed the stock 4.4.2 image to fix the OTA problem. That means a clean install. Make sure you are using SuperSU and install the latest StickMount version from Play, it shouldn't happen again.
thx for the quick replies. I'll go ahead then and reinstall stickmount then. Dno why it happened in the first place. except root i'm full stock.

Simple question about root

At least I hope it's simple for you more experienced users.
I'm rooting my phone tonight. And was curious if I ever wanted to do a factory reset but KEEP root can I do it the standard way of factory resetting? Or do I have to kdz 13b again and then root again?

Thanks. Had phones before that I had rooted with custom Roms but never had one that just had root so I was used to having to do it from twrp or clockwork with the file on the SD card. I'm asks also assuming that it's safe to do the factory reset with both the xposed and camera 60fps mod on it? Thought I'd ask since I had to install xposed totally different than other phones. But again thanks!

If you've never used TWRP before I suggest trying Google to get some basics. When I say "flashing" I'm talking about using the "Install" button in TWRP. You'll install the ROM first followed by the kernel. They should both be Zip files. If it was just Xposed though it might just fix the problem to find the correct Xposed uninstaller zip and flash that in TWRP.
Yep know that install is flashing. My thing is, is that I don't wanna lock up bootloader. I tried contacting person I got the phone from, because when I got it, wasn't showing the stuff that was listed. I made a backup on titanium pro, but can't get to it.. when I try to "install" on twpr the folder is there but says sdcard, that I wiped..the bootloader and unroot are my main concerns oh, and hard bricking..have internal storage folders...some in blue, most are grey....?

When you tap on install there's an option to select storage. You'll want the micro SD card. Unless you use Odin you won't be locking your bootloader and as long as TWRP is installed root is pretty easy. Just get your phone booting and then worry about the rest.

I agree with what shadeau said, first just get the rom to boot. Just flash the rom zip by itself and after it boots for the first time you can go back into recovery to add Xposed. A couple things that you may want to check on though, the kernel that's included in the rom is setup to let Magisk install properly which you'll need if you're using the version of Xposed that you have in the link you posted and I'm not sure if beast mode is. It may be easier to use wanam's original version which is here.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, I hope you're doing ok. The process you mentioned is good as far as advanced wipe and install the rom, but I wouldn't flash the kernel at first, there's one built in and it's a good idea to make sure everything is OK first before flashing other stuff. But once you see all is good then you can go back into recovery to flash the kernel you want and you can flash Xposed in twrp just use the one I linked to in the previous post and make sure you wipe the dalvik cache and cache after you flash the Xposed zip.

Thank you for your donation, you are awesome!! I replied to the email address that was listed, but I'll also tell you now that it really means a lot to me and I couldn't be happier that you like the work I'm doing.
As far as restoring your apps I usually suggest that you should download them again from the play store. If you've already bought them they want make you pay for them again and honestly I just don't really trust the way that titanium backup restores apps, but if using the play store isn't an option it's ok to use TB to restore them and a lot of people do use it.
Finally Fixed the bootloop.

Your bootloader is not locked if you can boot to TWRP. Not having root is different from the bootloader being unlocked. You just need to flash the SuperSu zip.

Yes you can reinstall it using fastboot without losing data. You might have to install twrp again and SuperSU if you want root. If you use the flashall method take off the -w.

Thanks! But I think you can do it right from TWRP. I think it was just wiping SYSTEM and one of the caches, leaving data and internal storage alone, then reinstalling it. I was following a guide once that did this, but can't seem to find it anywhere again. But I think I might go with the method you told me. Thanks for your reply!

You can sideload an ota update thru twrp. Maybe that is what you were thinking about.
Unpack Factory Image and manually flash each .img in TWRP. Just switch from .zip flash to image flash mode in Install section.

The oxygen updater will download the full update, then you would update via local update. It will warn you that upon updating, that the device will perform a factory reset once updated. And yes, you will lose root.

Like I said in the post above, you have to factory reset if leaving beta going back to stable. Factory Reset wipes the device.
