Hi,
I just bought a Nexus 7 2013 and I'm looking for a good starter ROM. I read a few articles on the pros/cons of ROMs but those articles are a bit outdated so the information is mostly about 4.4.4 ROMs and nothing Lollipop related.
I know the best way is to try them all and there is no perfect ROM for everyone, just perfect for each of us, but from what I can understand there seems to be 3 that really pop out
- CleanROM. Pure stock with a few tweaks
- BlissPop. Popular CM build with a lot of customization ROM
- DirtyUnicorns. Popular AOSP build also with a ton of tweaks.
I'm looking for something that doesn't sacrifice stability for added options and tweaks and a ROM that even if perhaps there are daily builds, that there is a less frequent "stable" build for those like me who don't want to flash daily and report bugs.
Am I missing a ROM worth looking at? I know there is Sinless which I liked on my HTC M8, there's SlimROM too, I mean there are lots to choose from which is great, I'm just looking for perhaps the ROM that would be the "One size fits most". I'm thinking Blisspop would be a good place to start but I'm curious to hear from others.
Forgot to add that I'd rather have Lollipop without XPosed over KitKat.
Thank you
My opinion is that after trying of all of them with all different kernel combination , my pick is DirtyUnicorns with it's own kernel, UnicornBlood. I run the Weeklies build.
Official (stable releases) are built every 1-2 months , Weeklies (also very stable) every 2 weeks and Test builds are well test builds every week or so when the dev tries new things and sees if they work great to be implemented into weeklies and stable.

Awesome, I'll give it a try for sure. I remember using AOSP on my Galaxy S3 and the weekly builds were very good. I think Joel made them. Weekly updates is pretty good, I like flashing but I like to be done flashing one update before a new one is released!
Well I tried BlissPop, Dirty Unicorns, CleanROM and I have to say I might just stick to stock/rooted for now. I don't need a ton of customization, in fact the only customization I miss is the XGEL settings for Xposed because I like the google launcher but with the icon themes I bought over the years.
Witch is the best CM based rom?
Not to be snarky, but the one that works the best for you. Best is very subjective. Why don't you start with the latest stable and see how that goes.

I have never used the CM based ROM called Witch. I honestly didn't know one existed. Therefore I can't comment if it's the best. But I've heard from reliable sources that DU is pretty good.

lololol... witch....
Anyways, Mokee rom use to be my goto rom (based on cm) but recently it has had problems with project fi. they may have fixed it as updates are daily.
Temasek's UNOFFICIAL builds are pretty stable, only had few minor bugs here and there over time. updates are almost daily.
Ive never had a problem with jgcaap's builds but they are lacking some features i use.
Dirty Unicorns is by far one of the most polished and stable roms here. wether your on project fi or a major carrier, never had network issues, and they pioneer so many useful features its ridiculous
You can always try out the official CM
DU is AOSP based. It is what I'm using.
Hello,
I currently have a sony z3 compact with the latest cyanogen output 12.1 nightly, the oneplus3 or oneplus3t interest me a lot.
I want to buy it, but I do not want to buy it without being able to install a version of cyanogen "stable" I saw that on the rom the camera does not work, there is quite a lot of Bug and the battery empties quickly.
I would like to know if you have more information about the rom and if you advise me to wait a little so that the bugs are corrected
Thank you
I'm using latest snapshot of the official CM13 and it works without an issues. There's also a camera port for improved quality (OxygenOS comparable) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/themes/port-oxygenos-stock-camera-cm-t3451721
You can use whatever version you would like to. As my oneplus 3 being my daily driver. I know its hard to work with a buggy environment. I took my time and waited for a rather bug less os. And here it is. The cyanogen team just released the cyanogen nightly. Which is seriously dope. I get battery upto 1 day with just one charge. That too with dash charging. As it supports dash charging as well. Then only you would wonder whether the forum is correct or i m. See there are a lot of threads made by different community members. There was no official cyanogen thread created untill they released the latest nightly. So whenever you see some buggy page. It seems to be someone with a custom version of the cyanogen nightly. You can either opt for that or the one from cyanogen site. As using the basic version straight from cyanogen i can tell you. Its a serious deal. You get everything you could ask for. A debloated os with great performance and more than anything battery backup is humongous.
Although you still have to work around with some issues. But nothing's major. Plus the echo in call is there for some variants. While others had none. I had none personally. Just some minor bugs and issues. I hope will be solved within weeks. And you'll get a stable os soon. Opt for any of them. Choice is yours. My vote goes to cm 14.1 nightly from cm site.
A big thank you for your answers which are complete
I'll buy one more 3
Thank you :good:
I ordered the note 5 pro and it should arrive in 2 weeks. I'm looking for a rom that is very stable and has everything working, I don't like to flash the latest weekly nightly to fix stuff. Should I stay on miui or flash a stock ROM? Is gcamera worth it?

If you want to get best out this device stay with MIUI os, because Xiaomi is known for it's best Software Updates.
And there are few Threads on this great forum, where you can get info about flashing GCAM without rooting the device.
Pixel extended or arrow os pie ROMs are very good as a daily driver, arrow is updated weekly or a couple days later.
I like resurrection remix for Oreo 8.1 ROMs. Havoc isn't too bad either. Lineage 15.1 is too.
On arrow, rebirth kernel nets me 135k+ on AnTuTu, noname kernel around 128k and twisted kernel 118k+. Runs darkness rising smoothly. I don't play pubg, so no idea on that. I can get around 7 hours of gaming time on a full charge, mixed with standard browsing, Facebook, music etc.
Edit: arrow has MIUI Cam and gcam.

I know that LineageOS is probably my best bet to a stable rom but i was thinking i would give the AOSP guys a chance first...
As i said i'm now with Havoc 4.4, and it's giving me problems.
I'm between Crdroid, Arrow OS and Potato ASOP, what's my best bet in these 3?
I don't game on the phone so a snappy OS and good battery life is a must...

Running 7.5? With what gapps? Flame, nik or the full gapps they provide?
The less useless apps from google i have on the phone the better...
Nikgapps basic is the one i would recommend
