Best daily driver on performance and battery life? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

I ordered the note 5 pro and it should arrive in 2 weeks. I'm looking for a rom that is very stable and has everything working, I don't like to flash the latest weekly nightly to fix stuff. Should I stay on miui or flash a stock ROM? Is gcamera worth it?

If you want to get best out this device stay with MIUI os, because Xiaomi is known for it's best Software Updates.
And there are few Threads on this great forum, where you can get info about flashing GCAM without rooting the device.

Pixel extended or arrow os pie ROMs are very good as a daily driver, arrow is updated weekly or a couple days later.
I like resurrection remix for Oreo 8.1 ROMs. Havoc isn't too bad either. Lineage 15.1 is too.
On arrow, rebirth kernel nets me 135k+ on AnTuTu, noname kernel around 128k and twisted kernel 118k+. Runs darkness rising smoothly. I don't play pubg, so no idea on that. I can get around 7 hours of gaming time on a full charge, mixed with standard browsing, Facebook, music etc.
Edit: arrow has MIUI Cam and gcam.

Battery drain on all custom roms

I'm new to Xiaomi mi max 32Gb. At the moment, I'm running MIUI 9 global 8.2.24 beta and the battery life is fantastic, 11 hours of SOT, but every time I flash a custom roms the battery drain is crazy, 5 hours of SOT. I have tried a couple of custom roms but it's always the same. I get about half of battery life in any custom roms. Is there something that I'm doing wrong
same as mew , more SOT in miui than Other non miui custom rom.

You should install:
-greenify:Restrict background apps activity
-app opsisable (location+keep phone awake+kee app in background) for all apps
-betterbatterystats:shows you what drains the battery
-run battery saver mode
-install custom kernel
when i first bought this phone and used miui i charge every 3 days. with custom rom and greenify, every day. so up to you. u want long battery or custom rom

Which costume ROM's?
Stable unofficial LineageOS (nijel8) out of the box gives 11~12h of SOT while stable global MIUI 9.5.2.0 gives 5 to 8 h SOT.
This is normal use without heavy gaming of course.

I tried stable unofficial lineageOs nijel8 and had only 5 sot, also tried pixel experience and was all the same with 5-6 sot then went back to MIUI 9 and I'm back to 11 sot

Well obviously you did something wrong. With more costume scheduler settings people where getting & up to 17h of SOT (but that whose with rather extreme approach) on unofficial LineageOS 14.1 with light usage all well documented on power/performance thread. Had a guy with similar problem as you around month ago, his problem turned out to be a binary leftovers from dirty flashes of different costume ROM's. After he did it properly thing's changed. The name of user whose arbitrarygrill, read couple of pages back.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3529851/page436
& you can always get more with costume scheduler/hotplug script's. Prime concern whose to match good old MIUI 8.2 - 8.3 SOT out of the box but with much better performance & without MIUI limitations (background apps/services aggressive killing) which we achieved in all arias mostly by working on kernel which Xiaomi never did & it's a source of most firmware problems today. Fun part is that 90% of back supplementary settings & libs are the same today; Xiaomi uses CAF settings & libs across the board (same as our unofficial Lineage is) and unofficial LineageOS uses the vendor libs from MIUI aside from ROM (apps) side only general difference is the kernel for which I vouch that our works much better & is safer.

Kernel is already semi costume, only a couple of things are added that are really beneficial as FIOPS IO scheduler & are set as defaults.

Which rom daily used and good gaming experience?

Hello friends, to find out how far is the development of ROM for Mix 2? Let's share experiences and provide reviews on daily use, both daily usage and good gamming experience, thanks
Omni is good for gaming, also your phone charges up faster. Seen it charging at 18W and battery was on 43°c. 0-100 was like an hour or so.
I have problems with it in discord and other voip apps. People souns trash on my bt headphones so i jumled on xiaomi.eu rom. The new gameturbo really helps and now i dont need to change roms anymore
Are good for gamming experience? Honestly I'm tired of following the Miui beta update every week, I'm looking for a build stable that doesn't need to be updated every week, at least the update is done a few months,

Give it a try with eu rom. It is far more stable over global. Currently im on aex by AndyYan. Gaming is same with omni but only phone charges 2Amps lower at 9volts 2 amps

I'm trying eu stable now 10.3.0 and still haven't found bugs here, I'm trying to experience playing games with PubG and Vainglory, I want to know how good the battery power is.,
Im trying also the xiaomi.eu dev rom, with android pie and its flawless

Apart from charging speed when gaming. On lowest settings with extreme fps in pubg phone literally discharges on charging while hmp tries to max out the clocks which heats the phone more and so that battery gets hot. In AOSP roms you can charge up your phone while gaming with less heat compared to miui eu dev.
Havoc and AndyYan's aex charging speeds are the same with placeholder kernel(eas). If you want something like Oneplus Dash Charge i suggest you OmniRom. It is the best rom(with it's own kernel) that charges the fastest. If you would like to try it, you should charge your phone no more than %90 as it may damage your battery and increase the drainage. I was on it a few days while having best performance with the fastest charging speed, realized a little bit noticable battery drainage. I was gaming on it while charging. Now i am on aex by AndyYan and performance is good, charging speed is not like omni's speed but it does the job done.
So if you would like to have a rom that charges the fastest try omni(if you go outside a lot), otherwise you should try havoc or any AndYan's roms.

What's the best ROM available right now? (as of 29th Feb 2020)

So, there's plenty of ROM options available to us currently. I've been hesitating massively on trying any of them due to being a bit burned by previous experiences with some not so great ROMs on other phones I've had previously. So tell me, in your opinion, what's the best ROM available right now? I'm looking for things that have the good battery life, a mostly lag-free experience, the less bugs the better, etc. The best overall ROM in general, basically. If you're using a custom kernal too instead of stock or the one that comes with the ROM, please mention it in a reply along with what you voted for.
Thanks!
I currently use POSP v3.1+8. This ROM is great if you want a proper taste of Android Q. I am using the stock kernel that comes with the ROM and opengapps pico package. I've never had any problems so far, but that's mainly because I don't use social media apps like Instagram. The software has its bugs and the battery life isn't great yet, but the Dev is working diligently to squish the bugs and that's what makes it for me. Best battery life and stability you can have is on Stock right now, especially if you debloat the ROM using shell, battery life is superb. I just can't stand Pie's ugly interface. MIUI ROM is sooo amazing, except for some little performance issues, especially on recents screen. MIUI ROM effectively transforms your Mi A2 Lite into a Redmi 6 Pro. But I've had a lot of privacy concerns over it. ROM's not open-source and Google + Xiaomi apps come preinstalled. If you respect your privacy MIUI is not the ROM for you. Pixel Experience on the other hand was a total mess. A lot of bugs + bad battery life. I haven't tried the other ROMs mentioned, but Stock Oreo is the way, if you want amazing stability, proper Gcam + incredible battery life. I literally could not drain the battery on Oreo. If you like the UI of them, stock ROMs are the way to go for stability. I'm using POSP because I just want the new features that Xiaomi should've provided us a loooong time ago.

I only included ones that I knew were still being updated by the developer; as far as I'm aware, the dev of the Lineage 16 ROM hasn't updated it in quite a while now. Additionally, I can't include everything

Lineage OS seems death on Mi A2 Lite, yea I'm found builds but not updated too long.. idk why, Lineage OS it's one from best
I'm currently using this rom, in my opinion the best rom, even if without updates maybe I'll switch back to POSP later, but the battery consumption (idle) has to get even better.

Heyo Lacia here!
Do you have telegram by any chance since i released some stuff on there for POSP and if you want to use POSP i heavily recommend flashing the chunchunmaru!_r3.1 kernel too. Too improve SOT and Idle drain and fix some smaller bugs like DT2W and Data usage not working

No, I will stay with LineageOS for now and wait a few more weeks until POSP is really mature
No Pixel Experience 100% stable for A2 Lite?
I came from a Note 5 with Pixel Experience and Gcam 100% working, but my display broke so I buy a A2 Lite, but the scene looks slightly poor for me
Wich is the best 100% stable rom and Gcam (if exists)?

Theres no 100% stable rom. I mean atm all of them have some minor bugs and gcam often freeze and reboot the phone. At least this was my experience with roms and gcam... Every time I try roms I just get fed up with (mostly gcam being slow and buggy) so I'm going back to stock after a couple of weeks.
Anyways try posp with the recommended kernel. Also you can find gcam at the themes forum here on xda.

Thanks. I'm reading a lot of bad reports about the Android 10 stock rom, is this true? ?Maybe is better I continue in 9?
And at last, we didn't really have a stable GCAM? This is like a punch in the face for me
Thanks a lot.
Lineage OS 16. This phone would be awesome if it had proper Lineage support.

Don't expect a stable build of 10 from Xiaomi soon. We had a Gcam configured for A2 Lite by hass31 but it doesn't work properly on stock Pie and it will NOT work on 10. Other than that I'm currently using the gcam in the apps and themes forum with the provided xml. It works wonders but video doesn't work. I've noticed that video recording on stock vs gcam doesn't make much of a difference.
Try HybridOS but high battery drain is still issue

Android 10 ROMs are Stable.
Android 11 is in the Beta/Alpha.
For Android 10, there are many good and popular ROMs like Ressurection Remix (RR), MSMXtended, CrDroid, ColtOS, Panandroid Quatrz, etc.
RR and MSMXtended are highly customisable. They along with CrDroid, Colt OS have many more features than MIUI. The Macro lens is buggy in many ROMs. No other problems other than that. They are stable enough for daily use. I now use CrDroid. Battery Performace is Ok. Camera, 48MP, UW, everything works except Macro Lens.
Android 11 is not stable. While some can adjust for daily use. If you want stable Android 11, you can wait, as many of the ROMs above have stopped Android 10 development and going to release Android 11.

I know that LineageOS is probably my best bet to a stable rom but i was thinking i would give the AOSP guys a chance first...
As i said i'm now with Havoc 4.4, and it's giving me problems.
I'm between Crdroid, Arrow OS and Potato ASOP, what's my best bet in these 3?
I don't game on the phone so a snappy OS and good battery life is a must...

The less useless apps from google i have on the phone the better...
