Hey Guys,
my Pixel decided to ruin my data usage... Suddenly it uses massive amounts of data every day. It has an opened Bootloader and Root. No custom Kernel or ROM.
Anyone any idea?
You can use data saver mode.
Is it backing up stuff to the cloud in the background?
The Device is running with the same settings for weeks and no Problems at all. I have not changed any settings in the last weeks...
The sad thing is, i cant see exactly where it is comming from... Only several service as "Android OS"....
I also had problems with high data consumption. Im my case, the NDE63V-Update was constantly loaded in the background and ended with an error message. After installing the update the data consumption was quite normal.
I have exactly the same problem?
OP how did you solve this problem?

There is already a similar thread for this. I commented on it. It seems like after uninstalled Ambiturner, the problem went away. Do you have Ambiturner?

You flash the image when Google posts it. Skip the user partition. Or use the flashall bat file but edit out the -w
Then you reroot.

My congrats for the great autonomy ?
The info you've sent are not enough to analyze your reboot issues.
1) Have you rooted your device?
2) If yes, are you running SuperSU, Kingroot, Phh's Superuser? What version?
3) What the apps that are getting root permissions?
4) Are you using Xposed? What version (e.g. v86.6 systemless with Magisk v8, the v86 stock)?
5) Have you tweaked or replaced the stock kernel?

Much strange.
I'm having an heavily modded OP3 with OOS v3.2.7, never encountered instability.
You should try factory reset asap, there's nothing you may do, since device is completely stock and works for most users.
I can't give you more help, sorry ?

Not, because OOS is working well for most users, so there is no "fix reboot issues" in any todo list.
Go with factory reset, when you find the needed time.
If problems still persist, contact OnePlus and explain the issue.
I think that some upgrade maybe the cause of your troubles, due to massive change of stuff that the end-users can never see.
You know that Samsung updates often make device slower or keep crashing some system app?
Why excluding that OnePlus have done (involuntary) the same?
Updates are not always guarantee of stability, especially with firmware different than Google stock.

Are you using a case? I had a cheap eBay clear case on my phone and it wasn't moulded properly over the power button, there was no indent on the inside for the button to sit in so it used to turn off in my pocket and back on later and produced battery graphs similar to yours.
Hope this is a help.

Did your problem solved? I am having same problem.
I have the same problem. I am currently on 3.2.8 and also had this problem on beta 9. Few days ago it happened in front of me, the phone was on the desk nothing running in the background. That was kind of the soft reboot, didn't triggered my locked sim, (my sim card is locked needs to enter PIN when phone startup) and after that I checked Settings=>About Phone=>Status, the uptime didn't affected too, seemed nothing was happened. I think this also happened to some other people but they just didn't realize it.

Try using non 4G/LTE SIMS.
I am facing the same problem.
My device is at service center.
Day one:No reboots.I asked them to put some SIM & then check.
I did that after reading your post. No luck. Are they replacing it? How many days since it is in service center?
Facing problem from last 2 weeks.
I submitted once last week. They clean flashed older rom.Worked fine for one day, then reboots started again.
Then this technician had remote session and flashed the rom OnePlus3_16_A.17_161118(OOS 3.2.8):Reboot frequency went too high.
Had to go to Service center for diagnose. 2 days now.No proper response from them.
I had the same issue from several days now, wiped cache, did factory reset, wiped data, nothing worked, I read somewhere that let battery drain down to 0 and then full charge removes electricity or static from the phone, and that may cause random reboots, gonna try that

Seriously? That sounds like one of those hilarious Microsoft Answers sort of posts! Running the battery down will not get rid of "electricity or static from the phone", apart from anything else the battery protection circuit would not allow the battery to drop to zero volts as it's not good for li-on batteries.
The Oneplus 3 seems to like to soft restart, mine sometimes decides to do it 3-4 times a night (rarely during the day) and then is fine for awhile. Tell tale sign is the battery graph showing large gaps in the usage pattern. I would suggest that there is an inherent firmware issue judging by the number of people reporting the same issue on a number of different forums.
Bootloader is unlocked and phone is rooted. I noticed this morning that my data usage has gone through the roof with Android OS being the main culprit. It looks like the auto system update is causing the phone to download the update over and over again. Is there any solution to this problem? I have turned off Auto Updates in developer settings and thought this had solved the problem..but it looks like the file update is still trying to run. Used up 11gb of data already.

I had this happening too. You don't have the app Ambiturner do you? It seems like the problem started after I downloaded that I deleted it but I also stopped a bunch of stuff and wiped data. Not sure what fixed it.
i had this same exact problem...not sure what it was...i did have ambiturner also, but not sure if it was that as it was the google settings app that caused the major data drain.
i suspect also it was the downloading the update over and over so i clean flashed the update and disabled everything when booting up my phone. the data drain is gone for now...
im surprised we dont see more people with the same problem occurring.

How did you clean flash the update without losing root and wiping data? Sorry if it's a noob question, but I really don't want to backup, unroot, update, restore data, and re-root.
I'm having the same issue
Ended up flashing a full 7.1.1 image and re-rooting. It killed 4.5GB of my 5GB quota on day 1 of that billing cycle. Turning off auto-update didn't help, so I put my radio on 2G until I could get a chance to flash the update.
Im thinking this problem started once i clicked download and and install in the notification for the update. Since I'm rooted and unlocked the update fails and the system tries continuously to download and install in the background.
I deleted the update.zip file from the system. Let's see if that stops it.
Cheers

Sorry for the delay in response...
When I clean flashed, I lost everything but backed up so it was fine...You can try clean flashing but not formating userdata although I'm not sure how successful that will be as I personally am not smart enough to know where root changes take affect , although it sounds like that could work...I'm no expert tho

I dont have such issue so I am assuming you are referring to the OP although quoting me?
In just one day, Android OS used 269mb of data. Anyone know what's going on? Saw a thread for the Android OS draining battery, and my issue is a bit different. Also, on wifi it used 2.66g in about 4 days.
7.11 Rooted.
I do not nor ever have favebook installed.
Thanks!
I have the same problem. I just posted the same question. Wish I had have seen this beforehand.
It's probably trying to update and failing due to being rooted. This will cause the device to continually download the update. Are you on the latest uodate/January security patch?

Yea, it seems like the update thing is what causes it.
Disabling automatic updates doesn't seem to help either. This is a pretty huge bug...
So my only option is to update, and then CONSTANTLY check if theres an update, and if there is then IMMEDIATELY turn off networking... ****ing great.
Maybe a custom rom wont have this issue...

It is a super annoying bug. This is exactly why I haven't even bothered rooting yet, Nougat coupled with dual boot is gonna take a while to become mature with development. A custom rom would def solve this particular issue but they're all kind of young right now. Though I have read a few are dd status. Glad that is all that it was! On the plus side, you only have to worry about it after the 5th of every month! Looks like you'll just have to reflash twrp and superu https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/guide-update-fastboot-t3498187
I need a bit of help here. I "unrooted" via the Super SU app. Rebooted, tried to update. Still failed. I also have lost root. Super annoying. Is there anything else that the updater is expecting that i haven't restored???
Came across this this morning https://m.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/5o816g/solved_extreme_data_usage_by_android_os/. This should help you guys with the drain and then you only have to take the OTA via flashing it whenever you choose. Do note, I haven't tried this yet, so I can't confirm but others report it working.

Easiest way is to just download the full factory image and use the flashall.bat to do it. Edit out the -w so your apps and data are saved. Then reroot it.
Got to work this morning to find out I had no mobile data left (attached image). I thought, how strange, yesterday I'd had about ~1GB usage out of my 4GB available, I of course immediately when and looked to see what had used it all and Android OS was at the top with 2.13GB (WTF?).
This also isn't the first time this has happened, I had the same last month. Can someone please explain what is going on because I know for damn sure I've not used all that, I only browsed a few web pages this morning.

My bet is your phone is not up to date and you are rooted or modded. It keeps trying to download the update. We have seen this quite a few times even with automatic system updates turned off.

You are indeed correct, I am due an update, however, I'm not rooted currently although, my bootloader is unlocked as I've been assisting with getting Magisk working on stock for Pixel devices.
And what kind of idiot developer/team thought downloading OS updates over mobile data without question was okay!? I've now got to go for 2 weeks without, I'm royally p*ssed about it. Guess I'd better flash the new update then while I have a (non-cellular) internet connection.
I remember when Google targeted power users with Nexus devices, I guess this is not entirely true for Pixel devices. Big boys like to do what they want, even if that means staying on a particular version of Android because we might be testing things... I'd rather not have OS updates forced down my throat, it's the same thing that bugs me with Windows 10.

You can just install the factory image on your computer and then remove the w in flash all bat file by using a text editor so that way it won't delete everything. You won't need to use any data

That's what I usually do! Just not had the time to do it recently.
this is caused by update downloading and failing over and over. I went into the dev options and turned off the auto update but it did not work. I had to update the phone manually and now its fine. I think after rooting the phone and going back to stock rom this happens.
IDK man, I was rooted and was pulling like 10gb+. Flashed stock via adb and I think it's still doing it. Project fi.
This is happening to me as well on project fi. A was rooted with beans rom and burning through 7 plus gb a month. Returned to stock completely except bootloader still unlocked. Can't install the new updates and burns through data trying over and over again. I'm not sure how to proceed other then switch to unlimited data plan on T-Mobile.

No. This all happened since returning to stock. Today I sideloaded the August update with adb and my phone says it's on the current version finally. It seems the support people at project fi are clueless for the most part. You have to do everything yourself but they will at least credit your account for the data used by Android os if you call them and tell them what's up. They want screen shots of the data usage. So save one before you go messing with stuff
My pixel xl started bootlooping. I can get into fastboot but that's it. If I try to boot twrp, bootloop, if I flash stock, bootloop. I've tried Oreo, pie. This came out of nowhere. I tried a gsi, bootloop. I'm very confused. The memory works because its flashing. Something has to be triggering a reboot. Only thing I know of that forces restart is unencrypted internal storage

I bought a one plus literally a week ago. Lucky on my end. Whatever google did it is bad. I opened up the kernel and disabled the securities. Unencrypted the data. Still nothing. I've manually flashed over every partition 1 by 1, switched to the other slot and tried there. This looks like its going to be a battle. I've got a feeling what we flash isn't copying over some things because it keeps the newest version, which is why we can flash but not overwrite the problem
