Due to my curiousity I somehow managed to find a solution to fix the crazy lens flare. I hope it fixes for you :good:

Wait, what exactly did you do in the video? It looked like you just wiped the lens down with a cloth? Sorry if I missed something critical, the audio was a bit hard to hear.

You can't change the camera ring but you can pop the glass lens of from inside.

I had a spare One X housing and I wanted to paint it High gloss black. The lens just popped out when I pushed it out. You will have to remove the back housing.

I think that work. I'm gonna buy too maybe. My photos now are blurry and no focus.
I suspect this is a screen out job to fit. Anyone tried?

Mine is still fine, so I won't have to change it by now.
But I assume that you might just use the little plastic lens instead of the whole ring so screen out wouldn't be needed
I just ordered the eBay lens and round frame only. My lens actually has a crack in it (if yours is just scratched, it can generally be buffed out). Before I ordered it, I tried prying along the LED flash to see if I could get the current one to lift up. Going slowly and carefully around the perimeter, I popped off the current lens cover. It can be done, and is sure a heckuva lot easier than removing the entire back housing.
How you do?

Hey Clitoridys,
Can you please explain what kind of glass you used for this and what scissors? Did you have to paste the new glass lens into place?
My hox+ lens is slowly getting fkd more so everyday and I'd like to replace with glass rather than plastic.
I just bought used HTC one x. Back and front camera is so so dirty. When I open camera app then camera quality is like nokia 6600. So so nasty same story with front camera. I think glass is dirty of both cameras.
What should I do
This is the same one x that you were planning on offering to that guy in that other thread??
You've answered your own question... If there's dirt then you will have to open it up and clean it gently...
PS: This thread should go in Q&A...

I usually clean the outside of my lens and the whole while polycarbonate body with a damp cotton cloth every week or so...
If there's dirty in between, then you can only clean it by opening it up...
actually it looks like so much dirty from outside cotton trick will not work.
Any acid type trick to clean that dirty part of lens ?

I use nail polish remover to clean the white body... No idea about lens whether it would have any affect or not... Worth a try... Don't use in excess! Just a bit!
PS: Don't rub on the beats audio print, that solution will remove it!

Had a problem with the camera glass, my one x+ is about two weeks old, i keep it always in an bugattie cover, but somehowe the are some sort of scratches appearing on the glass, verry good to see with lightreflection.
Well i tried to polisch with a soft fiber cloth and Mothers advanced spray wax, just a drop, at first it get really bad even bad pictures, but be patience later on i had a very scratch- free camera glass :good:
edit: maybe there is a some sort of coating over the glas, if that is so its pretty bad
I've Just upgraded to the HTC One m8 last week from a HTC One x, loving it so far :good:
One thing I wondered was what type of glass is the rear camera lenses made from, don't suppose it's gorilla glass at last is it?
all it takes is a tiny scratch on it in the middle and that's the end of good photos, every mobile with a camera i've had to date has ended up with poor photo quality due to scratches.
I wish they fitted a metal shutter to cover it really, but gorilla glass like used on the front screen would help i bet.
I can't find any info on what type of glass it is, I was wondering myself. I just cut out a small piece of plastic and set it between the case and the phone to cover the lenses.
It hasn't affected picture quality that I've noticed. But if it ever gets scratch I can just change out the piece of plastic.
I don't see why HTC would put such a big circle for a small camera lens.

yeah i wondered that to, It's placed where my fingers go each time i pull it out my pocket to, the lens just gets finger prints all over it.
I was looking at all the cases to see if any have a shutter to close over it but no luck so far.

Never try and fix a scratch its not paint it can't be fixed! so putting toothpase on your phone will only help ruin it further. if you have a silicon based toothpast then you just rubbed really fine sand into your camera. your best bet is to take a soft cloth and some diluted rubbing alcohol and try and clean it. good luck!

Hello! I actually did this to my M8 today, and it worked GREAT, removed all the small scratches and my pictures are no longer blurry or washed out! All pictures now are CRISP as they were when I first got my M8. You need to LIGHTLY apply toothpaste, and then use nail polish remover or I used rubbing alcohol to get the scratches off. The M8's had a coating on the lens from factory, I read somewhere this was anti reflective film, but am not sure if that's true or not. Anyways, if you use toothpaste and then alcohol, you will remove this layer of stuff and its the coating that is scratched most likely, not your actual lens. Follow this video here (again) and see if it works. I would NOT use toothpaste that has gritty/sand like texture, this may scratch the actual lens and damage it.
Video link / method I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhhOcIRMfWc
Good luck!
My Friend had a similar problem he sctrached his screen and his camera, and he used the same product he used to clean his car headlight lenses and surprisingly he actually did a decent job. Put it this way it was alot better than it was. I was really surprised.

You can Use "Displex" (~5$ on ebay) to fix it... Your camera will be like it was new!
I've done three m8 cameras with toothpaste. It just takes time. It gets worse as you rub then gets better because it's removing the coating.

Rubbish, yes you can, I have done it loads of times with metal polish such as brasso!
I have removed scratches from glass, plastic, LCD screens, phone camera lenses, watch lenses, all successfully with this method.

Look very closely, does it appear that the coating is just getting more scratched (which is the intent, for the toothpaste to abrade the coating and remove it) or the camera glass is actually getting scratched.
Similar to a previous response, my guess is that you are just scratching the anti-glare coating (not the glass) and actually need to rub it more.
Mine appeared to be just the coating being scratched. Used this method and it worked great. I still have to get some of the coating off at the edges but 95% of it is gone and my lens is clear of these scratches now. Plus it gives your phone that minty fresh feeling.
Anyone know if this lens is gorilla glass?

I read where one guy used a magic eraser (Mr Clean brand??) and he said that worked the best for him. I wonder if they "fixed" the issue with the coating on newer phones?? I have had mine for a few weeks now...always carry it in my pocket(s) and do not use any case and all three of my lenses have zero scratches on them?? I have been watching closely to make sure since I've read about all those having this issue on three different forums.

I bought my phone at the end of July so yours probably has the coating. I didn't notice the "scratches" until I wanted to take a picture the other day and I always wipe the lens with my shirt to get finger prints off after taking it out of my pocket. If the lens glass itself is gorilla glass I'm not too worried about it scratching in the future because I dedicate my pocket to my phone and nothing else goes in that pocket.

+1on the magic eraser it worked like a charm no need to use toothpaste all scratches gone. Just wet the magic eraser, squeeze the water out, lay phone screen on flat surface " soft magazine " with camera facing you, I would get a bright lamp to point and the surface you going to scrub the camera lens cover, and use magic eraser in a circular motion and you will see the coating come off. Hope this helps anybody who has the scratches.

I can confirm this works. Also a clean pencil eraser. It takes about 20mins though. I used toothpaste too, and freaked out when I saw how badly it got scratched. Tried the eraser method for around 5mins and figured my cam was screwed. The next day I started rubbing with the eraser and didn't stop. I had time and nothing to lose. Cleared everything right up except the extreme edges. DO IT!
My Moto Z Play isn't even a week old and has small scratches at the bottom back. Nothing alarming mind you but disapointing when it's new.
Now while I was searching to know why Gorrila Glass would scratch so easy ( as I really really really really pamper my phone) I found this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69706641&postcount=7
That would explain it. It's not the glass that scratched but rather that plastic film (if I have one my phone).
If so, can I/should I remove it?
