So my 10 just died today.. what happened was... it still has around 41% battery but I decided to change is already since I will be going out. after 30 minutes I checked the phone but it was turned off and not charging, led is turned off. I am using a Choetech quick charge 3.0 charger with original HTC type-C cable. I already tried some possible fix around the internet but none of them work. So I assumed this is a hardware issue caused by maybe an incompatible charger. Although I use this Choetech charger for over a month already without any issue whatsoever.
My question is.. Which part/s would be possibly damaged of using an incompatible charger? (battery, charging board?). HTC devices are no longer released in my country anymore so no HTC repair services are available. Sending it to country where I bought it for repair might take months so last option I'm thinking is to repair and replace defective parts myself.
Hope someone with HTC hardware expertise will help me...
Maybe you could only ask HTC about this issue, they could have an idea. But, for sure, you won't be able to make it repair with warranty as you used a non-htc charger.
Unfortunatelly, I really don't know about it.
As you had still 41% of charge, there is power in so rather sure the battery is down but what about the rest?? I hope someone can help you more
So it doesn't power on at all, even with holding the power button for 20 secs?
Download mode also?
I would definitely contact htc about getting it replace/repaired...a bit expensive of a device to not use its warranty...which has to be honored.
You used a QC3.0 compatible charger...that is the requirement; OEM is not the requirement.
Unless someone can prove a defective charger is the cause (it's not like OEM equipment can't be defective or break), it would be an assumption made in bad faith.

I will try to contact HTC Taiwan. Sure they can help but I am concern on how long the process would take to ship my device to them for repair and send it back to me.
just for info.. this is the charger I used > Choetech
And this cable I used in the office to connect my device to my computer > Choetech cable

Yeah, I think that HTC should be a nice option. even if you don't send the phone back to them, they could give helpfull informations. And maybe, ask other users that live in your region if they already had to send a phone back to htc and see with them if the delay is acceptable. As HTC will be thet best for it for you to keep your warranty safe

Their service is actually very fast. The offer an option where they will send you a replacement phone right away and put a hold on your credit card and remove it once the device is in their hands. If you do not choose that option and send the phone in and wait for repairs (which i have done before) it took less than a week.

With the 10, try power + vol up + vol down. A bit different than on previous models. The capacitive keys will blink several times, then the phone will reboot. If you need to get to download mode (or bootloader which you can access from download mode), switch to power + vol down immediately after the phone shuts down to reboot.
I had to use this method myself twice today while testing a beta ROM and getting a black screen after the flash.

The capacitive buttons don't blink holding down all buttons (vol up and down plus power)? Crappy. It sounds like you've got a hard brick. After my response, I got black screen four more times and was able to get back running. Six times in total. If they are blinking, keep holding them down 'til reboot

Already contacted HTC SEA (Singapore.) They just redirect me to their HTC TW counterpart as my device came from Taiwan. Unfortunately, after days of trying to chat, no response from them until now . Really disappointing!

No! The volume buttons are a rocker and if you hold both of them, you may break the button. There was a case review video that showed this happening (no idea which one; I've watched many).
You only need to press power + one of the volume keys (I don't remember which one, down I think...for download mode) to get the effect you described.
It worked when my phone was comatose from the PC BSODding during an RUU.

Incorrect, but I was too.
Vol up + down + power forces a reboot. I was responding after beers, and didn't realize/notice that he was trying to boot up from a powered down device. That's why I said as soon as it powers off to switch to power + vol down.
It won't break the buttons. It's the way that HTC has made the 10 to force reboot. I don't think they would do that if it would break the volume rocker.
Power + vol down from a powered off state should boot to download mode in the situation he is having.

And it works. Thanks for that.
When I tried this a few weeks ago when having issues, my phone didn't respond to it. I had to ask in the Venom Beta Hangouts chat what was up. I was told press both vol up and vol down + power, and that did work for me so I stuck with it. Maybe it was a problem with the situation I was in at the time.
Thanks for all your suggestions.. but none of them work.. the device does not respond..

Hello!
I dropped my LGOG E975 and the screen has cracked. The upper half would still work. But i could not turn the phone off. So i let the battery run dry. When i came back from vacation, approx. a month after, i sent it in to change the screen. It got changed, but now it has another problem:
It wont turn on! At the store they said they could not get the phone to boot. I took it to a charger and while holding the volumebuttons it showed the LG logo for a second, then blinked red a couple of times. This happend twice. Now if i hold the power button for 15 seconds and plug it in, it will quickly blink a red light.
What to do? I suspect it's something with the software.
FIY i unlocket the bootloader, rooted and installed a recovery. Dont remember which one tho'.
Update:
I can now enter fastboot or download mode. But the phone wont be found by kdz. flashers.
Try to access recovery from the fastboot screen, pushing 2 times volume down then power.

The phone turn black, blink red once and thats it.
As a sidenote, i can only put it in fastboot or downloadmode after i hold the powerbutton a while before plugging it in. Else the red LED wont blink.
I have no idea then
Have you tried to put it in fastboot without plugging it in? Volume down + Power button when the phone is off.

No response from the phone. Can it be a batteryproblem since the red LED flashes shortly when plugged in and entering fastboot/download mode or trying to open the recovery?
Maybe. Leave it charging for a while and try again.
My father always lets his phone die out of battery and he leaves it off for a while like that. When trying to power it back on, or when plugging it to the charger, the led flashes just like you described. It's not an OG, but it may be something similar what's happening to you, since you said you left it for quite some time turned off.
Okay, i will try to leave it over night. It will sit in the charger for 6 hours before my next check.
Try to upgrade/recovery with LG support tool in download mode

im an currently experiencing an issue that sounds much the same as this, difference is that i was using the teenybin software and the HS shutdown halfway through the update, and now will not do a thing other than blink the RED LED when i hold the power button down whilst pugged into charger
also to mention, the battery life on the HS prior to this was reasonable..

Hi Gustavo,
Sorry I'm new member but may be able to help you with this.
I had a similar experience with my son's tab 3 kid's edition last year.
It just died and wouldn't turn on. I tried everything but no luck. I then decided to take the tablet back to samsung store and packed it. I was suppose to go the store 2 days later but after 48 hours of device dying I just thought of trying to turn it on and plugged it in to the wall charger.
To my surprise display came on showing red battery icon and after 30 mins approx, device showed green battery icon still charging. after roughly 10 hours I turned the device on and it works flawlessly since then.
Hope this helps.

Hi! Thanks for the help! But before i make this topic i waited for 3 days to put tablet on a charger.... nothing happened =/ But i'm gonna try again!
I had a similar problem.
Do you know how to separate the screen from the body? I found that the connector at the base of battery was very loose. I managed to push it down and it turned on right after.
Hope this helps!
Whilst I agree it could be a loose connector, it would void your warranty. I would see about going to your local samsung repair centre and see if they can have a look without wiping.
This happend to my 8.4 last week, no way to revive but i can feel warm at the back while doing all the first aid trix but no luck. So i decided to bring it to the nearest samsung store w/repair service they remove the back cover and battery, they told me they just ¿¿refresh start?? the battery? because it was drained!!?? wtf i remeber i left it with 30% charge... but anyway they fixd it in less than an hour. But yesterday the symptom returnd again i have to power+down+home just to turn it on :/
Plug in the charger then press power + vol down (not up). Hold for a good while until it restarts.
If it doesn't then it could be hardware related.
With so many people reporting battery problems, you might just have a bad battery and that's why it gets hot when connected to a charger. *I* would open it and check the battery's connection and maybe even replace the battery.
I saw some videos...but i don't want to void warranty :/

HTC M8 doesn't boot red LED flashing not charging
Hi,
I have big problems with my HTC M8. It is 11 month old.
I is rooted, has 4.16.401.10 firmware, Android Revolution HD 43.0 and
S-off SunShine.
In the evening I put it on the charger with 61% battery left. The next morning it didn't start up anymore and the red LED was flashing.
The battery didn't charge and so long it doesn't boot up at all, I can't connect it to the PC. It is only shows the big battery sign when I connect it to the charger which disappears some seconds later.
I didn't want to send it to HTC for guarantee, because I couldn't put on stock software.
My lokal handy-doctor changed the battery... nothing!
He changed the USB connection... nothing.
The red LED keeps flashing, the battery doesn't charge, it only becomes warm, I cannot turn it on. I have tried to press the power-volume+ -volume- buttons, nothing.
I think HTC will charge me, if I sent it for guarantee, or does anyone have other experience?
What should I do? Any idea?

That was one of the first things which I tried. It has no effect.
Try power+vol up, and also power+vol down, with and without wall charger connected. I've seen a couple people have luck with that. Otherwise, if it still won't work, its pretty much bricked.
Especially since you've already had a new battery installed, it may be a problem on the mainboard.

Since you've had a 3rd party take apart the phone, replace the battery, and replace the USB port, your warranty is void.

As you tried all the things I suggested with no luck, I agree its probably a hardware problem.
This would have been justifiably covered under warranty, since its a hardware problem. And since the screen doesn't come on, they wouldn't have known it was ever bootloader unlocked, custom ROM, etc.
But now that you've had a repair shop open it, it will be obvious to HTC the phone has been opened and they will probably charge you for repair.

This isn't the "same problem" unless you (like the OP) took it to a repair shop, had them replace the battery and then the USB port? I doubt it.
Posting "I have the same problem" is just lazy, and doesn't give us the proper info for anyone to properly help.
How did this condition come about, did you just find the phone in this condition? Or were you flashing anything or any other actions to cause this condition?
Plug the wall charger (not connected to computer) overnight. Then hold the power and vol up buttons for a minute or 2, and see if there is any change.
Also try a different charger and cable.

Ok, sorry for the lazy answer.
So, yesterday the phone works fine, when i go to sleep.
Today, the alarm clock sounds, I woke up, and when i take the phone, the screen is black. Therefore, it didn't work.
I used another charger and cables, but don't work.
The S.O is sense stock, only had custom recovery, but I never used.
If i plug it to the computer, isn't recognized.
Maybe, you can know any solution for that?
A lot of times, I try, with power + vol up and power + vol down, for around 20 seconds.

Did lot of research online and Tried all methods like pressing Power + Up or Power + Down or Power + Up + Down for a while for switching the phone on.
But no response from the phone
Also when I put in the micro-usb socket (when attached to charger or computer) while pressing power + volume up buttons the led flash orange for a second.
Connected with PC shows up as QHSUSB_BULK under device manager.
Please help in reviving my phone.
Thanks

How long is "a while"? Let it charge for several hours (overnight) and try another cable and charger, in case the first one is broken.
Then try to hold power+vol up (or power+vol up+vol down)for a minute or more.
The fact it flashed an LED at all is a good sign. A true brick usually has not LED response.
OoohhhI KNOW...
****...i hope i am doing this rite...
Anyway...what you do is so the volume up , power , and the return buttons all at one time...until it turns on....leave alone so it can reboot.
It should be good to go...
Seriously i found if you do this to any device acting unusual...even for
volume issues...check your devices cpu..if it runs hot a lot,
i found this to be related somehow in the htc..
Call me c r a zy
You have to do it longer...if you have no reply...dude this works ..
Or your phone is Effingham dead dude.....

Naa nothing worked...
led comes on (just for a second) when I keep pressing the power button and put in the cable to the phone.
Also I noted that when I plug in the cable a bit further than the exact slot of charging point led stays for 4-5 second then goes off.
very frustrating it has become...
HTC M8 Completely Dead
Finally I sent the M8 for hardware check and repair.
But unfortunately it was completely dead for no reason.
I left the hope and bought a new phone....
NO Solution at last...
HTC should help me out here...
There phone is completely dead... in just less than 2 years and that to with normal usage (without extreme usage)
I hope someone takes the message to htc for the problems the customers are facing from there devices..
They should just replace such devices with new one for satisfying the customers who had believed in there devices and paid premium amount for the same.
Hey guys,
I was setting up a sound system with large speakers and microphone, amps, the works, earlier today. I attempted to test it by playing some music from my HTC phone, and it worked for a while, and then my phone suddenly shut off, never to revive again. I've tried every combination of pressing buttons, for every reasonably possible length of time and nothing works. My phone is effectively dead, and can't be switched to recovery, download or bootloader mode. It doesn't even turn on. Pressing the power button for a while makes the vibration motor buzz weakly and the capacitive buttons light up weakly, then the whole thing dies again. My phone's charging LED works when it is plugged in to AC power.
How do I fix this? Or is my phone as good as dead, and I need a replacement?
Phantom power killed it perhaps?
If it's the case it's probably dead

Yeah, I think it's the phantom power. Well, time for a new HTC 10...
