Hello!
I'm planning to upgrade from a LG G4 to this awesome phone (I hope this is a good desicion??!) and this would be my first HTC phone then after some Samsung and LG devices.
So I have a question: When I'm flashing something on my LG G4, something goes wrong and a bootloop appears, then I can simply remove the battery, put it in again, boot to recovery, flash again and all is fine.
But what could I do if something like this appeared on the 10 due to non-removeable battery?
Thanks in advance!
Holding down the power button and the volume down button allows you to reboot the phone. I've had several HTC phones that work this way, and I've never had an issue with being able to reboot the phone this way.

That means this works even when the phone is bootlooping? Well that's good to know, thank you!

Thanks! Is it still worth getting the 10? I mean considering the development? )Will there be some stable CM/AOSP based Roms?)

I've been in this situation already. Holding power+vol-dn for a long time will cause the keys to blink and then it will reboot.
Putting the RUU's zip on the external SD card will give you the option to factory flash it to out-of-the-box state on power-up. This is a wonderful thing.
I was in a bootloop once for a custom ROM gone sour and again when running the RUU.exe BSODded due to memory failure on the PC (talk about bad timing...heh...no pun intended), leaving the phone in a coma.
The US Unlocked/Dev version has the RUUs available on htc's site.

Power + vol up with M8 to force a reboot. I've found power + vol up and down works with the 10.

If you can here something, than it can mean, that you have a Desire with the SLCD screen, but you flashed something for the AMOLED screen... (just an idea though)

Not your first time but u pulled battery at 10th mins. Was it writing to baseband? If you are sure it wasn't then it shouldn't be bricked.
Edit: Have you tried the boot using battery pull plus ish cable method? Where you have it attached to pc pull battery quickly put back in as if you power button is broke? Or tried turning it "on" and running ruu?

I echo the opinion that the ROM couldnt have damaged the phone this way. Usually RUUs do. This seems to be more of a hardware issue and might warrant a return to HTC.
He says he's got a white screen. Bricked SLCDs usually get nothing at all (black screen) on display. And ROMS dont write to the boot, so cant brick an SLCD. If he'd S-OFFd, a boot splash might loop the device I suppose. But I'm not sure about the latter.
yeah even i got the same problem.
i brought my HTC Desire from HongKong... so i tried RRU Official roms... & then after flashi got the bootsound, the 4 buttons & the charging light is working, & phone even vibrates also but the screen is black...
may be i flashed with the Amoled version...
any solutions ???
or can anybody provide me any official roms with SLCD support...

Classic SLCD brick problem..Try this thread for trying out various solutions.
You probably flashed a very old RUU. All newer RUUs (>2.0.x) support SLCDs. So if you have a goldcard, it is only a matter of flashing another RUU, preferably a WWE version.. Check my thread above.
htc desire dead. after rom insatalled. no power. no boot mode. no caharge liğht. exacly dead. ı thing hardware is damaged or boot is die. if anyone know any solution maybe can help.

What happened before this?
Did someone try doing something like down grading?
Your symptoms sound like someone tried to flash a froyo ruu on a device that had gingerbread on it which means your bootloader is possibly messed.

Is your bootloader unlocked? Is it S-Off? Did you flash a custom ROM? Did you wipe /system? What exactly did you do to get it into that state?

Im not really sure if the bootloader is unlocked since I didnt use this phone before, but pressing power button + vol- doesnt do anything, my friend who is the owner said that the phone was rooted he wiped everything in the system options, after that the phone did not start anymore and got the problems mentioned before
He might of formated something for the phone to boot up properly, tryed flashing ruu or ADB(ANDROID DEVICE BRIDGE)

Nothing at all
Hi All,
One of my friend got M8 and one fine day phone went to bootloop automatically and then he rebooted the phone into bootloader and did a sideload of custom rom/may be stock back (he don't know actually) but he said he flashed TWRP. Now after flasing the ROM the phone never started.
Issue is now the computer also did't recognise the device. If I plugin into the wall charges sometimes orange LED glows and sometime not.
It also not booting/ Not going to bootloader. Please help me to fix the phone as it's a imported version from US and indian service center will not help this.
Many thanks in advance,
Mahesh
Did you try volume UP and power until the 3 soft keys stop flashing? That is the equivalent of a battery pull. After the soft keys stop flashing then try to boot to recovery or bootloader. I haven't used ADB Sideload, but I would try using the microSD card to flash a new ROM.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
i suppose you tried volume up and power together?
Yeah you'll have to get an SD card and then put a ROM on the SD card with an adapter from your computer...hold down both volume keys and power button for 10 seconds and then hold down vol down and power right after and go to recovery, wipe and flash

Odd how it starts bootlooping so you automatically install TWRP and flash a rom and don't think 'why was it bootlooping in the first place?'. Now you voided the warranty

It just uses adb, which will not work in his phone in this state. Toolkits are never a good idea for troubleshooting.

Just one question, are you having a bootloop or the device wont power on at all? Do you feel any vibration while holding Power+VolDown?
Did you unlock your bootloader before this happened? If you didnt, you can still return it...

Hello all,
I have the AT&T variant of this phone and may have bricked it :crying:. I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, S-Off'd the phone, and attempted flashing LEEDROID. The install appeared to go well, but when the phone rebooted it loaded the HTC screen and then went to a black screen (screen is still on). Pressing and holding the power button will not turn the device off. If the power button does cause a slight vibration to occur but nothing else. Any ideas? I'm guessing the phone is fubar since I have no access to recovery tools.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It appears the phone is still active. Pressing the power button does toggle the screen on and off and my PC sees the internal hard drive of the phone. So something appears to be up with the display driver.

So was this because you flashed an international ROM? I'm wondering because I'm rooted but not s off yet and I want to flash leedroid but I am nervous to brick my phone. I came from Nexus 5 where I wasn't worried about other variant Roms.

It's a known problem with the way most rom devs were writing their updater scripts.. Captain throwback issued a "fix" which most people implemented by now so you don't have that issue.. The problem was system was not being mounted in twrp.

Cyanogen Recovery? I haven't seen anyone here use it, and wan't even aware it was supported on this device. Did you get the recovery flashed and operational, than tried flashing the ROM? The exact sequence is not clear, from your description.

It now will not turn on unless I plug it in, when it will do one of two things. Either it will hang on a photo of a battery, or it will hang on that with the red text at the bottom. It always does the latter when plugged into the wall, and mixes it up when plugged into the computer. If it is the latter I cannot turn it off until the battery dies, but in the case of the former it waits a few seconds then powers off. No combination of buttons will turn the device on. I have backups saved, so if I can get into fastboot I can easily fix it.
