When I flash Community Build over TWRP do I have to wipe anything or do I just flash over current ROM? I tried flashing community build once and I wiped everything but got a flash error message. can someone let me know?

More than likely u will have to do a clean flash. If u want to keep twrp though, u will have to get modified recovery

So I successfully rooted my S3 (Bell I747M), installed TWRP recovery, booted into the recovery, created a backup (thank god!), wiped using TWRP (factory reset -> wipe dalvik -> wipe cache -> wipe data) and then went into install, selected the CyanogenMod zip and swiped to flash. Failed. Every time. I tried numerous wipes but flashing CM just kept on failing. So I got fed up and restored to my backup.
But I really want CM! One more maybe-important thing is that when I was installing TWRP, it said my device was d2can, even though my device is actually I747M. But I remember when downloading CM I had to download the d2att version (that was listed as the one compatible with my I747M), but TWRP was saying d2can and not giving me the option to choose anything else so I just went with it.
Please try and help me!
Did you download the d2att version of cm?

Hmm alright, are you able to flash any other roms?
I had a similar issue and im trying to recall what I did to overcome this..
EDIT: I think I remember. I flashed a different CWM version and for some reason it prevented me from flashing CM10.1.. Do a google search for "CanadaGS3CWM6.0.1.2.tar" and let me know if it works. If you cant find it shoot me a PM and ill look for it.
Thanks for the reply.
I haven't tried flashing any other room but I have successfully flashed a debloating software made by mrRobinson.
Also‚ I'm not using CWM‚ I'm using TWRP. I installed it through the GooManager app found in the Play store.
If I have already installed TWRP then will I still be able to install that CWM file you are suggesting I install?
It is late now and I am going to bed but I'll be back on tomorrow evening to try again so I'll try what you said then.

I think the issue is that I'm trying to flash a d2att ROM on a TWRM that thinks I'm on a d2can device when in reality I'm on an I747M. The d2att is said to work on the I747M on CyanogenMod's website though so I think the issue is flashing the d2att when TWRP thinks I'm on a d2can.
Anyone have a clue as to what to do about that?

You'll need a d2att version of twrp. You can get the odin flammable file off their website.
You'll also need to verify your boot loader is up to date. Many people having the same problem.
Simple search will get you both things.

So I just download the .tar and flash it just like I flashed the root through Odin?
Edit: Also should I get CM10.1 or stick with 10 until a stable release of 10.1?

Yup just in odin like a root file. It goes in the pda section. Uncheck reboot,. When it finishes unhook the cable pull the battery and than reboot into recovery after. Sometimes the flash doesn't stick after a reboot.
Cm10.1 has a release candidate out right now rc4 it's pretty stable.
You'll need to make sure your bootlader is up to date before you flash it though.

Also when flashing TWRM do I flash the zip file or extract the recovery.img and flash that?

Read through this. If it's up to date just flash the newest cm 10 once recovery is changed.

The second link has the latest boot loaders sorry I should have mentioned that. It has to match the one listed.
I don't know what you downloaded but the twrp recovery off their site should be the .tar to load in odin. The .img file you'd have to load using adb. Easier to use the odin file. No unzipping just flash with odin.

Btw, CM10.1 RC5 is pretty stable with good battery life.
Could you please tell me what method was used? I have a Bell GS3 as well. I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 to get root and recovery today. I have now tried flashing CM10.1 using the latest CWM and TWRP d2att recoveries and neither work. I'm giving up for today but will try again after work tomorrow. I've read stuff about changing the build.prop files to trick the phone but I don't know where to start.
Thanks,
Spike

I believe you can still use the adb method. You just need to flash the previous version on top of the one you have right now. And you should be done.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The current version of TWRP is 2.8.6.0 which is the one I recently downloaded and I am currently using. You can download it directly from TWRP.

TWRP version 7.5.1.1 <-- is TWRP manager from the app store i believe. But you are correct 2.8.6.0 is the latest.
OP if your TWRP is outdated, it wont have the new By Name partition installer. Older recovery's used block numbers, CM changed to Name partitions and messed everyone up. If you are using a AOSP based rom you will need to have the most updated TWRP
Thanks, I updated TWRP, this solved all the problems. Thanks for the help. Running TWRP 2.8.5.0.

Recently tried to update my recovery from Freegee's TWRP 2.6.3.3 to the latest TWRP 3.0.2.0 version. It flashed successfully, but I now get the "secure boot" error when trying to boot into recovery. My LG e980 is rooted (obviously) and SIM unlocked and I'm currently running the OVER ROM UX 5.0.
I'm just curious what the latest available "lokified" TWRP version is, or if there is some way to make the latest version work that I am currently unaware of?
Thanks for any assistance.

For those that don't know: since I couldn't get into recovery, I just downloaded the TWRP 3.0.0.2 zip from the link provided, extracted the recovery.img file, and flashed it using Flashify.
I can now boot into recovery without getting the 'secure boot' error.
