After receiving the new 4.4.W.2 update, I decided to move some songs from Google Play on my phone onto the watch for offline playing.
Here's how it went:
Downloaded an album with 12 tracks onto my phone
Took my watch off off the charger at 100% battery
Began to transfer music to the watch, took 25 an hour to move 12 songs. Only checked the screen maybe 5 times during the transfer
After the transfer was complete, I listened to about 5 min of music
Battery dropped from 100% to 70% in a span of half an hour......
Call me crazy, but this leaves a lot to be desired..

I know how to transfer music, but how do you play music from the watch?

Since the new OTA lets you store music on the watch itself, go into settings and pair the watch with a bluetooth speaker or headphones. I have mine paired with the Moto Hint, when I have the hint in my ear and I play a song on the watch it will stream to the earpiece.
Call me crazy, but I think you are expecting too much from a device that isn't really intended to be a standalone media player.
Putting music on a smartwatch, or a Moto 360 to be specific, is kind of dumb to begin with imho.
Why? First, it's a watch.. Second, it has only 4GB of storage. Third, it has no speakers or audio output jacks. Fourth, ya, it's a watch.
Playing music from a smartphone and controlling via the M360 is more than sufficient and has almost no effect on battery other than regular operations.
My 2 cents.

Test it again taking out the transfer step. I would bet that is what is eating up battery not the actual playing of the music.
how to transfer song to watch?

That's your opinion, but... if excusing faults based on the fact that "it's just a watch"is sound reasoning, then you're completly abandoning the appeal and leaving many wondering why bother dropping $250 on "just a watch".
Aside from notifications, wasn't this feature one of the main selling points for the device? Personally, I looked forward to being able to leave my clunky phone at home while going on a run. It seems natural that a smartwatch should be able to set me free of cords and allow me to listen to music wirelessly. If the device battery struggles to handle that, I can't imagine how short the life would be if music and GPS ran at the same time.
This turned into a rant.. but I was hopeful that this update might bring purpose to the Moto 360. As it stands now, its a $250 watch that is less useful than my $75 g-shock anytime I move more than 25 ft. away from the smartphone it was meant free our addiction to.
I agree this would be a useful feature. I could see not bringing my phone to the gym and using my watch to listen to music.
I still think this watch is worth every penny I paid for without this feature. Hell, being able to change the watch face daily is a pretty cool feature by itself. Add in the ability to get notifications on a device that looks like a watch I'd wear with a suit, and it's worth the $250.

I never said it was "just" a watch. I was more implying that it's main purpose is not to be a media player specifically.
Being that Android Wear & Google Play Music just implemented this feature in the latest update, I don't believe this was a selling point at the time of M360's sale. Not to mention, the first implementation is most definitely not going to be optimized.
Is it a cool feature? Of course. Is it it useless? Of course not. But that is also dependent on the user.
Seems you just are not happy with the battery life and watch in general from your response.
even if you store music on your watch and leave your phone at home while going on a run or gym... don't u still have to carry a bluetooth speaker to hear the music..lol.. anyways.. resetted watch 4 times.. no luck here...ughhh..

Battery life is great, can last 30 odd hours so long as I only use the watch to check time a handful of times a day.
My post was to see if anyone else is experiencing such problems and if they had any real world uses similar and ways to save battery.
no one should be surprised that using the watch as a media player would kill the battery.
the best use for the media player on the watch is to be used while working out or running. because it will definitely need to be recharged after using it for an hour as a media player.
Is offline music only support google music? ? I still not.figure out how to.download local song to.watch, anyone can clairfy? Thanks.

if you go to the start menu on the watch and select the play music app, it will inform you there is no music stored on the watch and you need to change a setting on your phone to "download to android wear". go into play music on your phone and in the settings is where that option is. As soon as I checked it, the music i had downloaded to my phone started downloading to my watch. once it's done you can access the music from the play music app on your watch. the newest play music version is required i believe.

Thanks mate. Now i know.
Since i have not played google music before, so does this offline download to.wear only support.song.from google? But not local music? And how I know the download.is.happening? Also can I select which songs be download to 360?

From the looks of it, it's only music you've purchased from the play store, or music you've uploaded to play music. local music residing on your phone won't transfer over. you'll definitely know it's happening, a notification appears on the watch that says how many songs are left remaining to download. as far as which songs you're getting, i'm still testing it, but it looks like it's going to be all songs you've downloaded to the phone, but i could be wrong about that.

Gotcha. Results are pretty sporadic from what I've gathered. There are too many variables right now, such as people using poorly optimized watch faces and/or apps. Possibly running older frimware/software, enabling/disabling ambient screen, brightness settings, etc.
Hard to get a baseline, but my results personally have been pretty great. I can't complain.
I use stock Moto watch faces, most specifically Retrograde (black background). Textra for SMS, it offers a lot of customization (vibration settings, color, etc), and is one of the most fluid in terms of replying via watch. Sometimes I use Mini Launcher, but it tends to drain battery a little more than usual and gets in the way a lot while swiping.
If you aren't using stock faces, then I recommend you stay away from third party watch faces until the Wear update with face customization becomes available.
Not just you. I listened through the watch for 30 minutes and it absolutely smoked my battery.
I wonder how the other watches hold up

Anyone experiencing choppy videos or videos that keep playing audio but freeze up? Happens on my pixel xl and is universal... YouTube, my video playback, Facebook video. Not app specific.
Did you have all apps updated in the store? If not do that. If that doesn't help try a factory reset. Nothing else can be done
Yeah... Will have to try the factory reset I suppose.

Mine does that too. Noticed it during YouTube playback.
I had the same thing happening today on youtube, video would freeze but audio kept playing, only problem is I am on a Note 4 until my Pixel XL gets here. Cant speak to the other issues, curious if a reset solved it for you.
Did a restart and seemed to work itself out... At least when playing my own videos back. If it creeps back I will try the full factory reset.
Not seeing this on my xl

Exactly what happens to me on my new Pixel XL
Yep happens to me on youtube app. Not tried it on my own videos yet though. Hopefully a fix will be released soon for this.
This was driving me crazy this morning. Watching YouTube on Pixel XL and video would freeze while audio kept going. Not happening on Netflix so far. Just YouTube. I emptied the cache and cleared data for YouTube app and force stopped it. Hasn't happened since. I wonder if it's a software problem with Android 7.1?
I've been experiencing this also while watching Netflix. The video will pause for 15-30 secs with the audio continuing. Eventually it synchs back up further up in the scene. Amazon video won't play at all. Do you think this is a case of the apps not yet jiving with Android 7.1? Or possibly some bad phones? Mine is a Pixel XL from Verizon. I'm still within my 14 day to return if a bad unit. Anyone have an idea what could be going on?
I get this with videos on Twitter and FaceBook. Havent seen it with YouTube and I rarely watch Netflix. It is very irritating but can normally be resolved with a restart.
Just contacted support about this. Literally anything video playback has a 3 second stutter and then the audio end up being out of sync. Happens with my recorded videos, snap chat, Instagram, YouTube etc.
Of course after restarting no issues. I wonder what's causing it.

Getting the same thing. Reboot needed to fix it.
No one knows what triggers it?

I also have the same issue, when I take a video then play it, it freezes between 3-9 seconds with the audio still going. At some point the video restarts, and when it gets back to where the video froze, starts again with the audio in sync. See video below.
Edit: a reboot only fixes the issue temporarily, it seems to come back within a couple hours.

So bad
It's absolutely horrendous! Came from a nexus 6p never had this issue. It's happening in, literally, every app with video, sometimes it won't even play audio or video on Facebook, it does it when I'm trying to play Snapchats where I'll hear the audio but the video freezes and then the video playa really fast all at once at the end to catch up with the audio. It does it on YouTube and Netflix and Hulu as well. It even does it when I'm recording video within Snapchat! I'm disappointed that the phone has been performing more poorly than my old nexus 6p. I hope they fix it asap. I do not want to ba e to do a factory reset. I just finally got done painstakingly setting up all my apps again on this
I only have this issue with YouTube... Usually locks up when I do full screen and after it rotates it feeezes but audio continues.
I occasionally will have YouTube freeze but audio continues. Seems to be only YouTube though and I don't think it's the phone because it was happening on my Note 7 as well.
Happened to me a handful of times where video stops playing but audio keeps going in YouTube. Am I the only one that doesn't realize the video stopped until like 30 seconds later? lol
All I have to do is rewind the video a small amount and then it keeps going and doesn't happen again for that video.
Every time I watch a video on YouTube the video plays in 144p quality. I have to manually select which quality I want which is usually 720p each time and for every video I watch. Auto does nothing but play in 144p. Mobile data or Wifi same thing.
This is a problem I'm just noticing. In the past it would always play in 720p if I selected that and that quality would stick. Maybe it's the YouTube app?
Anyone have any idea what's causing this and what I can do if anything? Thanks
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Youtube selects the resolution based on connection speed.
I have 50+ dl speed on my WiFi. It still starts the video at 144p. If I select 1080p or 1440p quality the video plays just fine...No buffering or anything. The thing is I don't like having to select the quality for every video I watch cause sometimes I watch alot of different videos
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers Legacy app
My youtube app plays fine (720p), even on 3G. Strange. Uninstall and install it again.
If I'm on the phone and I'm watching a video on YouTube for example, the audio for YouTube becomes unclear and choppy. I have always been able to watch YouTube videos while on the phone on my Nexus 5 with perfect audio. Is this a common problem for the Moto Z Play or is there an issue with just my phone?

Did you side load your N or was it an authorized ota?
If side load then you have same issue as @Terepin.
Else you shown why it is not wise to take N so soon.
Authorized ota, I actually got the phone recently and just did basic updates to it. It's still Android 6.0.1

I have a Note 10+ and a Pixel 4XL and I tend to use the Pixel a lot more. But one thing I've noticed...YouTube Music on the Pixel 4XL does not display song information via Bluetooth in my car. Dropping down to 1.3 is not an option (and also didn't work)...on my Note 10+, it works fine. I opened a case with YouTube Music...this is what they said:
I received your email that you're unable to see the details of the songs while playing via Bluetooth through your Pixel device in your car. Being a music lover, I can't imagine my day without listening to my favorite tracks, so I can totally understand your situation. Let me help you with the relevant information.
I'd love to help you in getting the issue fixed, however, currently this feature is not available for YouTube Music app on Pixel 4XL devices.
Even if that is a canned response, I can't imagine their flagship phone and music service don't play nice.
Anyone else encounter this?
I have music track info showing up on my wife's Acura ILX just fine. I play YouTube Music while using Android Auto on my phone all the time.

Yes...and it is ONLY YouTube Music on the Pixel 4 XL doing it. And amazing that support says "That is not a feature on YTM on the Pixel 4 XL."
I just noticed yesterday that on my 2017 Ford fusion on the first song I play it says the artist name is unknown. After the first song it works fine. Haven't seen any issue with my 2010 mustang.

Yup. Same for me on my Honda HR-V.. No problems with Spotify at all. This started a few months ago in Jan/Feb for me. I didnt have any problems with this on my Pixel 4 XL last year.
P.S: tried Youtube music on my old Note 8. Bluetooth metadata works fine.
It is interesting that this isn't a bigger deal than it is and how that "general" YouTube Music support says it is by design.
Funny...a music video from YouTube via YouTube Music also doesn't show the Bluetooth info yet same video on the YouTube proper app does.
We shouldn't be forced to enter developer node and lower Bluetooth from 1.4 to 1.3 especialy when other apps work just fine including YouTube itself.
