HTC Sync

i have had a rooted G1 for about a year and a half. i just recieved my Evo this morning.
the issue is I open sync on my pc, connect the phone and select htc sync from drop down. htc sync on the phone says that my vista pc does not have sync.
i have tried installing sync from the stock sd card and downloaded from htc.com
nothing seems to work. i saw similar questions asked several times but not clearly answered. if anyone can offer some suggestions i would be grateful.

Try uninstalling HTC Sync from your PC. And then reinstall the one from the website (it's the latest version compared to the one in the SD card). After installation run HTC Sync and connect the USB cable to your PC (don't connect the other end of the USB cable to the Evo yet). Then connect your Evo to the USB cable. If it doesn't work, try restarting your PC and then connecting it again. If it still doesn't work, try a different USB cable. I don't know if it will work but those are the procedures I'll be doing if I'm in your shoes. Sometimes USB cables and it's accompanying software are not that Plug N Play as we want them to be.

Attempting that now. thank you.
I did as you suggested, even used my wife's data cable for her pre. and still nothing.
just to clarify...all i (should) have to do is open sync on the computer and then choose sync from the notification dropdown after connecting to usb, right?

maybe someone else has had and fixed this problem? i am unable to root without htc sync working.

8) Click "Have Disk" and Browse to the location where you put the HTC Driver folder and open the Vista 64x folder.
9) There are two INF files in there. Choose 'htcrndis.inf' and click Open.
10) Click Okay and the device shown will be "My HTC". Select that and click Next to install.

is this folder in the sdk? where do i download from?

ok. so i go into device manager and and the "my htc" device has a triangle with a ! in it. under properties it says windows cant initialize the device driver. i go to driver properties and find "C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\ANDROIDUSB.sys and CWindows\system32\WdfCoInstaller01007.dll". i go to the appropriate folders and delete them and then install C:\Programfiles\HTC\HTCDriver\DriverFiles\Vista_x86\htcrmdis.inf i do this based on someones advice. i then reboot the computer, go to device manager, plug in phone, and the drivers are right back to "C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\ANDROIDUSB.sys and CWindows\system32\WdfCoInstaller01007.dll"

Cannot stop USB drivers from auto-installing

Hello,
I have searched the forums and Google, and was not able to find anyone else with this issue, so here I am.
I'm on Windows 7 x64 with a stock Canadian Galaxy Nexus 4.0.1 (yakjuux.)
I am trying to install GNex Toolkit and am unable to get past the first step. No matter what I try to do, any time I plug in the phone, it installs the default drivers.
Device installation settings are set to "never install drivers from Win Update." Phone is in development mode, I have removed Google Nexus from my devices (and checked the "delete drivers" box, though it doesn't even appear anymore), there is nothing for Samsung in Programs and Features, I have used USBDeview and there is nothing for Samsung/Nexus. I've tried using PDANet to no avail (I get error 103). I tried using "uninstall drivers" with GNTK, no dice (it seems to just remove a registry entry).
Any other ideas on how to make my PC install the drivers I want and not the default ones?

I have read that entire post and Bourne-nolonger's guide. Instead of showing up as "Android 1.0" device in Device Manager, my phone always shows up as Galaxy Nexus, with no yellow triangles or any other issues. (Yes, developer mode is enabled, and it seems to make no difference to how my computer responds.)
From Bourne-nolonger's guide:
"As soon as you enable this Windows will pick up a new device and it will attempt to install a driver - this will fail (or hopefully it will)." - mine never fails, it always installs drivers from somewhere. When I attempt to install new drivers to the Google Nexus device using UNK 0.7, Windows tells me that I already have the newest drivers.
Should I be restarting my PC after every install/uninstall of drivers? That's the only thing I can think of....

Absolutely.

Here is the sequence I followed:
- phone plugged in
- USB debug mode on
- uninstall phone from Device Manager
- USB debug mode off
- uninstall phone from Device Manager
- reboot
- reconnect phone, it installs with no problems
- enable USB debug mode while plugged in
- phone installs again, exactly like the previous time, with Galaxy Nexus in Portable Devices
So it appears my computer doesn't care if it is in USB debug mode or not. It sees them as two separate devices/states of device, but installs the same drivers for both.
edit: tried doing the same in fastboot mode; the Device Manager recognized it as Fastboot mode, but did not let me install the proper drivers, saying that I already have the newest ones.

This is what I would do:
1) Unplug your device from your PC.
2) Go into Device Manager and in the View menu at the top, select show hidden devices.
3) Uninstall every driver related to the GNex/Samsung/Android/etc.
4) Reboot your PC.
5) Make sure your Device Installation settings are set to never download drivers from Windows Update (as per bourne-nolonger's post).
6) Make sure USB Debugging is enabled in your GNex's settings.
7) Plug your GNex into your PC.
8) In device manager you should see Android 1.0 with a yellow "!". Right-click on that and update the driver from where you downloaded 1wayjonny's driver.
9) Reboot your device in fastboot mode.
10) In device manager you should see Android 1.0 with a yellow "!". Right-click on that and update the driver from where you downloaded 1wayjonny's driver.

Done, with no luck: instead of Android 1.0, I get a normal GNex install; with fastboot I did get it to show Android 1.0, and installed Samsung Galaxy Nexus Fastboot Interface using the downloaded drivers.
When I am uninstalling GNex from Device Manager, it never asks me to delete the driver as well; it asked me once and I can't get it to do that again. With fastboot, it did ask me, and that seems to be the only difference in the process.

At least you got the fastboot driver installed properly.
I'm out of ideas for the ADB driver though.

Can't get Nexus 7 to show up on computer

Shows up on my laptop but not on my desktop, have tried back and front USB ports
have uninstalled USB drivers, reinstalled USB drivers (universal adbdriversetup6 downloaded from xda sources)
downloaded android SDK manager and installed whatever USB stuff it had there
used USBdeview to remove any nexus 7 related things and then re-install USB drivers
Cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on... can anyone help me please
When I plug it in my desktop it makes the sound like something got connected... even has the safely remove hardware thing with nexus 7 there, but nothing in my computer

Is there a chance you are using usb3.0 port and can switch to usb2.0?
I would suggest you backup, flash stock, and redo your driver deinstall/install on stock. Try to get it working there first. Make sure USB debugging is disable on stock.

tried USB 3.0 as well as 2.0 on desktop doesnt work, shows up as a device on safely remove hardware, and I can also see it under other devices in hardware manager or whatever but doesnt display in computer
USB debugging enabled or disabled on stock doesn't work.. tried going back to stock and doing driver installation etc as well

In device manager are there any unknown devices?

Driver instal with WinXP
I went around with this problem after both my Win7 laptop and WinXP desktop both recognized my N7 2013 the first time I connected to them. I had no problem dragging and dropping files.
I had then returned the tab back to BB for a exchange for another. This time after setting up the tab and setting the MTP file toggle and USB settings correctly......The Win7 laptop worked find and recognized the N7 just like it did on the first tab. But now the WinXP desktop did not work and only saw the N7 as a ABD device.
You may already have the correct drivers (if not those are available here in several posts). You just have to direct windows driver update to the correct place for the MTP driver. Here is how i did it.
1. Open up the Device Manager on your PC and locate the Android device it sees. Select the update driver option and you get to the "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard" screen.
2. In this window it asks "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?" Select the 3rd option ' No, not at this time"
3. In the next window "This wizard helps you install software for...." Select the 2nd option "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
4. In the "Please choose your search and installation options" window... go down to the bottom and select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" option.
5. Now finally the window we need..... "Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware" The "show compatible hardware" button should be selected...if not check that box. You should see 2 choices in the "Model" area..... Google Nexus ADB Interface" and what we need to select " MTP Device" click on the MTP Device and hit next......it should install and your Nexus 7 should then show up properly.
Hope this works for all that have had a hard time as I did....I just found it odd after getting a replacement N7 my XP desktop did not recognize it as it did to the original one I used the day prior.

Just go in settings then storage and then computer usb connection by opening preferences in storage and then make sure mtp is checked.

I remember few years back I installed miui ROM on my xperia n couldn't connect to PC , only to realise USB wasn't turned to mtp by default. I thought it was a bug, tried everything even to fix it only to realise this.

If nothing else here has helped you solve this issue, check my thread, it should be of some help to you...

I'm having an issue where I can connect to my laptop in debug mode, but I'm not able to connect in the MTP mode with debug turned off. I expected to be able to mount the device storage in either mode.
Is that correct? If so, any ideas? I do notice I can't seem to get the MTP driver to stay in device manager.

Google drivers not working on Nexus 5X/Marshmallow on Win7 - Is the phone too new?

I have my new Nexus 5X with Android 6 on it. I am trying to unlock and root.
I have enabled USB debugging and OEM unlock.
I have downloaded and installed the SDK package with Platform-Tools and drivers in the 'Extras' folder.
When first plugging in the phone I install the drivers with the 'Have Disk' and browse method.
Every time, installing the driver returns an Error 'Code 10 - device cannot start. 'Android ADB interface' shows up in device manager when I plug in the phone but with an exclamation point.
I have uninstalled, downloaded fresh drivers from other sources, reinstalled, tried plugging the phone in while in 'recovery' mode (starting by pressing all 3 hardware buttons).
I uninstall every time and reboot both the computer and the phone. The drivers simply won't work.
What is going on here? Is the phone/Android 6 still too new to unlock and root?
P.S. I should also say that I go into Developer options and change the Select USB Configuration between PTP and MTP (between which, I have not seen mention of the correct choice. Does it not matter?) - I cannot chose the others RNDIS, Audio Source, or MIDI; it seems to want to default to 'Charging' when I try to change to these choices.

I've got the same problems & the driver did not fix it. My computer won't use the android_winusb file gives me an error that it is not a 64 bit system fle. Same with te official google file.

I was running into the same issue. The problem is you need to install them first as an ADB Interface Device (not composite) with the phone on and plugged in. From Device Manager choose the Google | Android ADB Interface (not the composite one. I saw another reference to making sure it's in PTP mode which may force it to this one as well but I didn't test). Then when you get into FastBoot mode on your phone and plug it in you can go through the same Update Driver steps and choose the "Android ADB Interface" for it as well when it shows the Nexus 5 with the yellow triangle. Then you should be good to go.

My phone shows up as a portable device/Nexus 5x . Are you saying it should be in Device Manager choose the Google | Android ADB Interface?

Sorry. I should have been more specific. Part of it is I did so many different approaches they've bled together in my head and I was on my way out the door yesterday when I fired off the reply.
To try to break it down from memory (going to throw in a couple of different options since I can’t seem to fully uninstall / reinstall so please provide any corrections once you get it to work or let me know if anything doesn’t match what you find and I’ll try to remember from there):
Phase I (phone on and connected to computer):
Open Device Manager. My phone shows as Android Device | Android Composite ADB Interface or Android ADB Interface.
If it is the Composite version, I believe I had to update it to the straight “Android ADB Interface to get Phase II to work)
If you don’t see that, look to see if you have any uninstalled devices by scanning for new. If so, then right click on that device, and choose “Update Driver”
Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”
Choose the “Have disk” option and browse to your USB Driver folder
From there, choose “Google | Android ADB Interface”
Phase II (phone in recovery connected to computer)
On phone, choose “Update device from ADB”
Open Device Manager and you should see the Nexus 5 under Other Devices with the yellow triangle.
Right click on it and “Update Drivers”
Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”
Choose “Let me pick from a list….”
Choose “Android Device”
Choose “Android ADB Interface”
Now you should be able to push the update over

Simple method: What I did was plug it in and wait for it to show up in device manager. Then I deleted the device (the one that shows adb) from device manager. Then I unplugged the device and plugged it back in... Then waited for drivers to install on it's own. Everything was good after that.

I have no trouble other than on Windows 10. Windows 10 doesn't even show the drivers from a list to install.

I have no trouble with Fastboot or adb. It only happens when I try and sideload. I end up have to use my Macbook Pro to sideload.

I wish it were that easy. But, no, this does not work. Nor do I believe my issue is the same as you others here, as I have Windows 7 and not the 8.1 and 10 issues that you are having.
No, no matter what driver I use, including any from your kind link, bsinc1962, they return an error, code 10 when trying just to install the drivers. I cannot go further.
What is this Code 10 error preventing drivers from installing?

As regards the attaching of files, you have to have a minimum number of posts to be able to do that.
As regards the USB, be a little more specific like what you are trying to do, which ROM you are running, whether you are rooted, what happens when you connect the phone to PC etc which will enable the members to help you.

There could be several reasons for this, but lets start with the basics.
Have you tried a different cable?
Have you selected File Transfer (MTP) from usb options?

I get a windows sound like its connecting then in the bottom right where the time is next to that is a root sign then I get a pop up saying exactly.....The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation.. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly. When I go to the Device Manager/Control Panel it doesnt do anything. I've tried to add adb to the path but maybe added it to wrong path now it won't come on. If there is a work around maybe to re-add to right path. Device Manager was fine before I added adb and added path as per internet search. Device Manager before would say something like error 39. I've tried MTP that doesn't get it to open up either.

I cant even root for the life of me now, Im on 8.0, I'm trying to just root the phone and to start the computer has to recognize it I understand but it won't, with my Oneplus 2 was fine,(I'm thinking maybe phone doesnt have the drivers built in to the file system, you know when you plug in and turn on MTP it shows the drivers app for Windows?) the only thing it errors plugging in.
I get a windows sound like its connecting then in the bottom right where the time is next to that is a root sign then I get a pop up saying exactly.....The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation.. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly. When I go to the Device Manager/Control Panel it doesnt do anything. I've tried to add adb to the path but maybe added it to wrong path now it won't come on. If there is a work around maybe to re-add to right path. Device Manager was fine before I added adb and added path as per internet search. Device Manager before would say something like error 39. I've tried MTP that doesn't get it to open up either.

On my son's pc running windows 10, I didn't have any issues connecting my OP3 to it and viewing files, nor did I have to install any drivers, same for Windows 7.
Hook phone to pc via usb cable.
Pull down notification bar and select "File Transfer" from usb options or go to Settings and search USB and select USB Preferences > File Transfer.
Browse phone from Window's file manager.
If still having issues, you can try and install Oneplus USB drivers, reboot pc and see if the phone can be recognized.

For some reason it's working now don't know what the problem was or even if it was something I did. Either way it's fixed.

If you are running Win 10, you will have to disable driver signing before the correct drivers are installed. May be that was your issue.
