Some questions before I buy - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

So I'm looking to ditch my LG V10. Great phone, but the size and weight is starting to hurt my hands and the lack of pretty much ANY dev support kills me. I already know the dev support here is great, but had a few other questions.
The size of the phone--does it ever get uncomfortable, or hurt your hands? I've looked up videos, but none really compare them side by side so I can see which is bigger. If the Oneplus is pretty much the same size but lighter, I may just hold onto it and see what comes. I often will be reading something while getting ready for bed, and the size and weight causes it to slip and almost hit me in the face--and I have large hands.
How are the updates? How fast do we get them compared to say, a Nexus device (which I know will always be the fastest)? Honestly, I prefer a stock/rooted approach, but I do flash ROMs here and there if I can.
Messaging--what app does this come with for texting? As dumb as it sounds, I have had a very hard time finding a texting app that works how I want it to--I want to hear each individual contacts text tone, but most apps make it so when in a group, you hear the group tone as opposed to the contact. I want to know who texted me, not which group (Textra, Yaata, etc all do this--currently using Evolve and it's OK).
Last, and possibly most importantly, is it WORTH it to basically side grade to the Oneplus from the V10?
Thanks for any help!

I have small hands and find it comfortable to hold and use for what it's worth.

I upgraded from OnePlus one to OnePlus 3. I love my op3 but the sandstone op1 was easier to use with one hand because the all metal op3 is really slippery.
I don't believe you should decide what phone to get based on stock messaging app, when you can install whatever app you prefer...

definitely an UP-grade, not a "side-grade" as you call it, particularly since hte LG V10 has the SD808 processor (same as Nexus 5X), and while it has a lot of RAM it's just not as efficient or powerful as the SD820 on the OnePlus 3
also, the OP3 is definitely lighter (by about 20g if I'm not mistaken), and you can use any texting app you choose since this is android (I prefer Google Messenger, but all of the ones you listed will work, and you can even sideload AOSP mesenger app if you wanted)

I'm not so much making the decision based on the messaging app, but was curious what it comes with. Finding one that works the way I want is surprisingly difficult. Messaging is one area I actually envy iPhones--I wouldn't mind all androids coming stock with a messaging app similar to iMessage, even though I could use Hangouts (which is just OK).

[Q] Storage and just general questions

Hello all. I currently have a Nokia Lumia 900 (upgraded from an iPhone 4) and have the ability to trade it in up until the 14th of May or around then. I've been contemplating switching to the HTC One X because of what I have read about it. I don't want this thread to be about bashing other devices, but text in the browser of the Lumia 900 is bothersome for me; it is very rough looking (I think this is partly due to the font, but mainly resolution) and the application support is disappointing (not the quantity, but the quality). Every review has stated how gorgeous the One X's screen is and I like the curves of it as well so that pleases me. I have used Android devices and have never been particularly impressed with them until I handled a Galaxy Nexus with ICS. That was a big turning point in Android for me and am heavily leaning towards giving it a go (I'll be able to upgrade again in November if I dislike the phone for some reason) as this would be my first personal Android device, but I had a few questions.
1. I have read some stuff about the storage of the One X. Apparently it only comes in at 16gb, but Sense and ICS take up about 6gb of that and leaves you with 10gb for personal use. I have also read that out of that 10, only 2gb is allocated for apps. Is this true? I don't like the idea of being limited in what I store on my phone. I don't see why I need a partition to detail how to store stuff on my phone.
2. I have seen people complaining about screen flickering and yellow dots on the screen. I typically approach this with optimism and assume its just the vocal minority, but I still would like to ask if its a problem.
3. I'm not a big fan of the way Sense 4.0 looks and much prefer stock ICS. Are there any custom ROM's out (not launchers) that get rid of Sense and leave you with just stock ICS (does Android Revolution HD)?
4. How is gaming on this device? I'm assume its quite spectacular with the Snapdragon S4, but most of the gaming tests so far have been from the Tegra 3 devices and begs the question if those Tegra 3 games are capable of being run on the AT&T model of the One X. I've read that the S4 beats/matches the Tegra 3 in most tests and was wondering if the stateside One X will be capable of the same gaming abilities.
5. Does Beats Audio really do anything?
6. How loud are phone calls? One problem I had with my iPhone was that calls were really quiet and I needed to use my home phone when I talked to someone. The Lumia 900 is quite loud and I have been very pleased with it and was wondering if anyone could tell me their experience with the One X when it comes to phone calls.
7. This is something I'm really surprised I don't know, but for some reason I can't visualize how notifications are handled with Android ICS/Sense 4. Both WP7 and iOS (now) have notifications appear at the top of the screen, but I can't remember what Android does. I thought it might roll into the status bar or something, but I can't quite remember. Is there an app or tweak to allow for instant reply to texts regardless of what app your in (I had a jailbreak tweak that allowed for this on the iPhone)?
8. I have also heard that apps are somewhat disjointed. By that I mean the UI. WP7 and iOS both have a typical design philosophy to them and I know Google has been pushing developers to take advantage of that with the Holo theme in ICS, but I was curious about users experiences with 3rd party apps. Are 3rd party apps typically good looking/uniform with the rest of the device?
I think that about covers it. Sorry for all the questions, I'm just very curious about the device and heavily leaning towards switching my Lumia in for it. If you want to say something about the device on top of the questions I have asked, please do so. I'm really looking forward to seeing your replies and experiences with this phone.
Thank you for taking the time to help me out with this decision if you choose to do so.

[Q] Moving from iPhone to Note 2, advice please!

Evening all,
I am a long time lurker on this forum, and I have noticed that a lot of you have got Android phones so I was after a bit of advice.
Currently, I have had the pleasure of using an iPhone 4 for the last two and a bit years. It has been a spectacular phone and with the combination of iTunes for management, it had made everything a lot easier. However, with the launch of the iPhone 5 I personally feel that the ‘enhancements’ made do not warrant the extra expenditure, so I am looking for a change.
My next phone of choice is probably going to be the Samsung Galaxy note 2; which, I have read a number of reviews and watched a variety of different YouTube videos showing its features and functionality. I was looking at buying this on a 24 month contract with 3UK but there are a few little things stopping me.
First, from the management side of things, is there anything like iTunes for the Android platform, secondly is Android as fluid as iOS as I know a few early adopters who used Android and it was one of my primary decisions to go to iOS and lastly what is the build quality like on the Samsung devices?
Thanks in advance!
Do yourself a favour and get Tunesync. It syncs your iTunes library perfectly over wifi - to this day it's the only way I know to get iTunes libraries to your phone without the album art etc screwing up.
Saying that, there's always Spotify too!
In terms of build quality, the Note 2 is a mile ahead of the S3 and has a far better screen, although the sheer size difference may make your head spin. Android runs great provided you get a custom ROM, Android revolution HD is my favourite as it's a very fine tuned version of the ROM it comes with. In fact, after the hideous iOS 6 update to my ipad 3 I'd say my Android is smoother.

I have been offered the note 2 on three with £30 discount.
I love the way the iPhone works, but I want something that is a little different. What about app synchronisation? How is this done with android?
I'll make this short and sweet.
In terms of build quality, iphone much is better.
It terms of anything else, note 2 is better.

I totally agree you pay much more for the build quality, thats why iphones are expensive.
I have been very disappointed by the quality of the note2, let's start with the usb cable not working out of the box, a small scratch on the screen out of the box too, and a little bit deformed back cover (camera hole didn't fit perfectly).
Otherwise, I think it is a real smartphone, not a tinny cute Iphone.
How the note 2 is better? It is a computer like not a normal phone, you throw any media file in it and play it, you can use the stylus for working by writing notes on pdf files, highlighting sentences, signing docs, making plans... The extra real estate screen fot browsing Web and i mean, real browsing, not playing it cool with a 4inch toy, you can even use the stylus the way you use the mouse. And finally usb otg, just stick a usb drive and copy, cut, create docs or files or whatever you want.
I can't keep on, but as I said, you will use a smart phone for the first time in your life (if you are coming from iphones as you said) windows smartphones where very cool, but android is taking over.

I disagree, most new Android phones with ics and above run great as stock without using a new rom.

-Screen size. Speaks for itself.
-Battery life. Probably the second best battery life on a smart phone, second only to RAZR MAXX.
-S-Pen(which comes with a whole set of features far too long for me to list here.)
-A lot of cool and useful features (multi Window, smart stay, smart rotation, direct call, pop up video player, pop up browser, swipe to screen shot and much more)
-Jelly bean (4.1.1) out of the box, official 4.1.2 coming soon.
-Quad core 1.6GHz processor, which is faster than iphone 5 dual core A6 processor.
-2GB ram.
- Feature rich camera. (best shot, best faces, low light, hdr, burst mode, panorama, face detection, share shot, smile detection, timer, anti shake + 12 effects + set exposure value +auto focus & macro focus etc...)
-micro sd card. Enough said. Allows you to add up to 64gb of additional storage. (64gb SanDisk card cost 40 or 50 dollars in amazon, or somewhere around that).
-removable battery, should for whatever reason the 3100mah be not enough for you, you can buy a spare one. Although you probably won't need one because like I said the battery life in this phone is amazing.
On top of my head, these things . I still haven't gone into the tens of dozens things what android can do that IOS simply can't, and I really don't want to since that'll take a lot of typing, and you can Google this stuff.
Also I strongly disagree with above who said that you NEED a custom rom. In my opinion, the stock experience in this phone is excellent and touchwiz is hugely improved than what it was before. You can get custom rom if that's you're thing, but you certainly don't need them. Only thing I'd advise anyone to do is to root their phone.

You can mention thousand points why Note 2 is better, but the point is how many points are actually applicable in real life usage.
Anyway, replying to OP's query, well in short, NO, Android is NOT smoother or as smooth as iOS 6, in fact it is not smooth like the previous iOS, and I am talking about Jelly Bean 4.1. Well I am using both iPhone and Android/Samsung flagships for over three years now. I have never ditched my iPhone 4S for anything, but I just sold it for iPhone 5. I purchased Note 2 because I loved the S-Pen idea, the screen size. But being said that, when I scroll through my contacts, or some apps, my iPhone 5 is LOT smoother than my Note 2. Jelly Bean might have a name like 'Project butter' but iOS has the real butter.
Also, keep in mind that Android applications (Play Store) are NO MATCH for App Store. Yes, there are several crap in App Store, but more in Play Store, and the overall quality is pretty bad.
I love both my devices for several different reasons, so can't ditch either of them. And another thing about Android users you will see is their pathetic fanboys. They don't even mind a laggy, buggy, crappy device, they just want openness, now I never found out what is openness, the craze of CM ROM's maybe?
Now build quality, well boy, what can say but plastic? Well, Note 2 has all plastic. So I will not comment on it's build quality. Some kids will say glass will break easy, well lets drop both iP5 and Note 2, then see.
So, IMO, if optimization, fluidity and smoothness of OS matters to you big time then stick with iPhone 5, for all the other reasons go with Note 2, and if you have spare money to burn, then have both.
Now you see I have skipped all the cons about iOS, why? Because you know them already.
I am NOT a fanboy of either iOS or Android, I hate them.
I am used to prime-evil OSs, as over the last few years I have had a variety of devices ranging from Symbian os to windows mobile 3,4 and 5. All have their advantages and disadvantages, I loved windows mobile As it had fantastic email client support and a lot of apps (2003-2005 era) and I like Symbian for its simplicity and the devices Nokia created like the E90’ But since transitioning to the iPhone I have found a fantastic yet restrictive user experience.
The restrictiveness with apple is one of the main reasons they have created a fantastic App Store, whereas the Nokia and wimo stores back in the day were utter gash.
Do you get many problems with android apps? Do the fill the screen? I remember reading early reports that android apps were not filling the screen on some devices and on others refuse to run. This is something that would annoy me.

Uh, let's just say in my experience compared to my other android phones, that hasn't been the case yet.
And for the record, Android revolution HD is just the stock rom that's been tweaked, just to counter the "custom rom" misinformation in this thread.

They fit the screen. At least the one I use, and I don't install anything I see. I first see if it's labeled as 'Top developer' or 'Editors choice', then I see the users rating. Just for an example, a good sports app, Score Mobile, labeled as Top developer, available in Play Store. I already was used to this app from my iPhone 4S. It was so smooth, so fluid in iOS, but when I use it on my Note, oh boy, I have never seen an app could lag/stutter like that. Now if this is an app labeled as 'Top Developer' then imagine the apps which are not labeled in anything.
I was an I phone user for 2 years then switched to galaxy s2 and now note 2. The I phone is idiot proof and everything just works but android is catching up. The apps are all full screen any phone and just as good as ios. The real beauty of android is if you don't like something rhen just change it. You can change anything from keyboard to launcher and widgets are a godsend. Got to say I'm really impressed with google now its spookily good, its like it can read my mind

I switched from iPhone 4 to Note 2 in this week.
I'm very satisfied. The only problems that i have noticed are:
- Bad email clients (even those from the market. iOS Mail is much better to use)
- Bad space management (it's impossible, i have a giant 5.5" screen and Messages app is impossible to read decently with the keyboard open)
- Best app quality in iOS (Whatsapp messenger for iOS has more options, like custom ringtones for every single contact)
- Bad display quality if you not see it directly in front of you (iPhone has IPS, which is the best display for view angles)
- Some strange response when i receive a notification. If that is a SMS the phone rings, display turns on etc, if that is a mail, i receive only a notification sound, no display on. And seems that is no way to change this.
- Apps like Facebook Messenger, that has a unique notification tone on iOS, doesnt' have that particular ringtone here, but they use a default tone chosen by the user. And that is the default tone for ALL the application that doesn't permit to personalise it.
I know that there will be solutions for a lot of this things, they will be hidden somewhere but hey, it is a huge waste of time.
Besides, it is a great phone. Great sound quality, great battery, great screen and it has so powerful hardware that it results more smooth than iPhone 4. And it's Android, which means infinite personalization and possibility to use custom roms for reaching better battery life (i suppose), better personalization, better user experience.
Sorry for my english, i'm an italian user. :fingers-crossed:
Music sync can be done with either double twist and tunesync, they both mirror itunes libraries and playlists etc.
I've been a user of the iphone 4 for 2 years and the note 2 is a HUGE improvement. People that say ios never lagged are just lying lol. iOS lagged and apps crashed on my iphone several times.
From the opinion of someone thats been on both sides, I honestly could not go back to an iphone. Mainly because of the screen size of the note 2 makes iphone screens seem too small for me to use anymore. But to each his own. Its about what suits you.
Stock rom on the note 2 is fine. I only get a lag when opening the S-Note app and a slight delay when opening the contacts app. Other than that everything has run smooth even with 3 browser windows open at once and a video playing at the same time.
As for app syncing, why? lol. I never understood the point of it on iOS and always disabled it.
app quality is definitely more refined in iOS. But improving slowly on android finally.
edit: @ the guy above my post: you can change most notification tones in the individual app settings. Facebook -> menu -> settings -> notification tone
In what way is the stock email client bad? :S I find it miles ahead of the iOS email client because you can actually attach multiple files at once. Plus for me, it is easier to use. I find the iOS mail client to be garbage. But again, thats my opinion
If iOS email client is garbage then I see fanboyism again here? And no one said iOS never lagged.
Anyway, I don't wanna argue.

Lol no fanboyism here. Just my opinion. I used the iphone for 2 years and the app honestly annoyed me because it felt so limited. I actually do find the stock android one better. I dont count it as fanboyism as I genuinely used both and gave both a try instead of blindly bashing one without experience.
As for the lagging. My bad, I misread one of the earlier posts. But in general I do find my friends claiming that ios never lags.
All good bro, im not looking to argue either

I would say go for nexus 4 instead it has best software and is better than iPhone 5 in terms of fluidity also it has s4 pro processor faster quad core processor presently for mobile.
Only problem is space if it doesn't bother then go for it I used nexus 4 yesterday and it is awesome a bit better than s3 overall I feel , note 2 was too big for me when I used.
I think nexus 4 was the only phone I have used and is way fluid than iPhone, note 2,galaxy s3

I see that the discussion took a turn to android vs. ios. I guess this is inevitable in these kind of topics. Anyways, here's my take, and I've used both operating systems.
-IOS has the advantage in a number of things. For one, there are way fewer devices to worry about. After all, the IOS is exclusive to Apple devices, which you can count on your finger tips. Android, on the other hand, runs on literally hundreds of devices (a side-effect of being open-source). Naturally, this has it's advantages and disadvantages. For instance, app developers for the IOS, for instance, can make sure that their apps work flawlessly in the Iphone, with all its models, and the Ipad, with all its models, before pushing that app into the market. An advantage of using an open source OS would be that manufacturers don't have to pay for using it in their devices, and as such can offer their devices at lower prices due to lower costs. Another advantage of being open source is that each one can manipulate the system however they like to make it unique than the others and add to it whatever they want (eg: Samsung's Touchwiz, HTC's sensation).
-Google and Apple have completely different philosophies. Apple believes in a "walled garden" approach. Meaning that they'll reject any app unless it fits to their criteria. Of course, what works for Apple in this case can't work for Google. If Google rejected any app that doesn't work perfectly with all android devices, their market would be a ghost town. Consequently, an app developer in android can release an app even if it doesn't play nice with all devices. Most of them will then update it to make it as perfect as possible (at least for the popular android devices) taking into consideration user feedback. Having said that, you'll be hard pressed to find an app that doesn't run on an android device, unless that device is old/obsolete/runs on a very old version of android. To put things in perspective, I still haven't run into an app or a game that don't work well in my note 2 or doesn't fill the entire screen, the same app would work perfect in my old Galaxy S2 before I sold it, which has a much smaller screen and used to run on Android v. 2.3 (this brings me to my next point, read below).
- Largely because it is open sourced, Android is a much more flexible OS. What do I mean by this? Well, take for example the jump from 3.5" Iphones to the now new screen size 4" in the Iphone 5. Most apps in the apple store would get letterboxed until the developers update them to support the new screen size, even though the increase in screen size is only 0.5". I've yet to run into a game or an app that doesn't fill my 5.5" screen in the note 2. If there are any, and probably there are, they would be rare.
- It's difficult to go wrong with IOS because it's a bare-boned operating system (all you really have is an app drawer.. i.e: a bunch of icons on the screen). For the most, the iOS now looks exactly how it did back in 2007. Even the notification slider (which was copied from android) is nowhere as good as it is in android. If that's all you'll ever need or want, then by all means, stay with the Iphone, because you're going to get much more than that moving to Android. It hard to go wrong when you don't actually add anything major. Of course, that's not to say Apple doesn't add things. They are masters in the art of adding things (say for example, the notification slider, rejecting a call with a message, or Panorama mode in the camera) and then calling it revolutionary, notwithstanding the fact that such things existed in other OS's for years.
Like I said this could go on for pages, and it really doesn't have to. Once you understand the concept of a 'closed' system vs. an 'open' system, you'll understand the major advantages and disadvantages of each. Having understood that, you decide for yourself which one is the best one for you. For me personally, I'd rather have device that runs Froyo than one that runs the on the latest iOS 6.

Switching from HTC One

Who here switched from HTC One to the Optimus G pro and didnt wanna look back?
Ive had my HTC One since AT&T first got it and had a charger port issue on it and they replaced it and each replacement after my 1st one which had the charger port issue has been crap, I have had 4 htc ones in less than a week from warranty all have had build quility issues. well I`m gonna pick me up a Optimus G Pro today.
I have 3 issues I`m afraid though.
1. Is afriad it will be too big. I owned the Note 1 forever and the Note 2 for several months but I havent had the note 2 since march or april.
2. Wifi Tethering I have the unlimated plan and there doesnt seem to be an international rom I can just flash like I did on my HTC One
3. AT&T`s 4G data indicater! I cant stand it! I`d perfer it to be 3G,H,H+, 4G, or LTE Not 4G or 4GLTE I hate it anyway to change that? On HTC I had to change the CID. On Samsung I just had to change the build Prop.
@hyelton,
Size won't be an issue. Its surprisingly comfortable to hold. I've had the Note 2 and One. You won't really know the difference in size. Looks big doesn't feel like it.
As for tethering and data icon....development is in progress so you May get your wishes granted soon.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
Actually the tethering is already working, there's a whole thread on it in the General section.
This phone is great, probably the best choice I've ever made. I have the 5gb ATT plan so WiFi tethering wasn't a big deal for me.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
just unboxed it gotta get a case and screen protector online now store had nothing.
Think Im GONNA LOVE THIS PHONE!!!!!! Rooted and got into the build prop changed a few things and was sadly disappointed that changing those few things didnt give me tethering nor did it change the signal bars and data icons to international, But... I did a reset on the phone and BAM the build prop changes took affect! Awesome!
I know have Network Selection Mobile Networks to change to WCDMA Only, GSM, and LTE only !
I know have 4 total Signal Bars Like the Korean version and same goes for the data indicators I now see 3G at the top!
and Tethering works without having to do that SQL script or whatever it is.
Edit..found it, never mind
Thanks
Never owned the HTC One, but did quite a bit of research into it before I ended up going with the G Pro. I'll admit that having owned the original Note is what drew me to the G Pro, but there are other reasons I believe it is a superior phone.
From the moment I bought it, I've loved every aspect of it, from its size, to build quality, to performance, to stock Rom, to features, etc. The QRemote app is awesome, the LED-laced home button is even more awesome, the camera takes excellent pictures and video, the "plastic" construction feels like a whole new type of material after coming from Samsung devices; it feels very secure (as long as you don't need to constantly remove the back cover). Battery life is great too.
A few things you have to get used to though:
"Temperature" issues. It doesn't get hot, per say, but it has a built-in safeguard that turns the screen brightness down during any kind of resource-intensive activity, like GPS usage, game playing, or video watching, and good luck turning the brightness way up while doing that (there are ways of disabling this safeguard, but I personally trust the engineers that there is a reason it is implemented and I won't mess with it).
Battery life, while generally great, is susceptible to quick drainage. Namely, GPS usage drains it scarily fast, but that may just be an aspect of all android phones. However, since the battery normally lasts so long on the G Pro, the quick drain from a quick car ride using navigation is all the more noticeable.
Android development for the G Pro isn't anywhere close to where the One is at. THAT BEING SAID, as of a few hours ago, an unofficial port of CM 10.1 was ported to our device, and I expect once all the bugs are worked out it will give a nice jump-start to the development of other Roms. Additionally, the stock Rom is excellent to begin with, and by far the smoothest and most fully-featured stock Rom I've ever used on any Android phone. Period.
The screen is very sensitive. Again, I don't own the One so I can't comment on how it compares, but the one thing that bothers me the most about my phone is that whenever it is in my pocket and I get a notification of some sort, the screen turns on, and somehow the slight movement of the phone in my pocket causes it to call 911, text all my friends, change the brightness, enable NFC, open the calculator, etc. etc. It's so bad that I'm forced to have a pattern-unlock on it, not because I want the security, but because I don't want my phone unlocking by itself and wreaking havoc in my pocket. Even with that enabled, however, there's still the "Emergency call" button I can't get rid of on the lockscreen, so it still occasionally dials out to the police from my pants.
Keep in mind, I really had to reach a little to come up with all of the above "drawbacks". It is my favorite phone I've ever seen or used or owned, and were it not for its maddening sound quality issues over bluetooth with my car system (more than likely related to Android 4.1.2 and not the phone itself, as I can't find anybody else having my issues with the G Pro specifically), I would probably not feel the need to even mess with the stock Rom on it. In fact, the bluetooth thing caused me to reconsider the One, but once you get used to the slightly larger frame of the G Pro (the bezels are very thin, so the frame is relatively thin and light for the ginormous screen you're getting), you really don't want to go back to anything smaller.
Hopefully I didn't confuse you more.. the G Pro is the right way to go. No phone is perfect, the One is an impressive looking device, but as of right now, the G Pro is as close to perfection as it's gonna get.

Yepp +1 on no phone is perfect But the HTC One people had issues of calling 911 etc in there pocket lol.
I came from the HTc one... The upper boom speaker, kept going out.. (2 phones) and besides that.. It felt too tiny.. Battery life was a joke...IMO.. This phone is great

Just swapped my HTC one earlier today for the lgop. While no phone is perfect, I'm certainly enjoying this device much more. Glad I made the switch.

I got my S4 stolen last night, and will be looking at getting a phone to replace it. I was going to just do the 12 monthly payments for another S4 and call it a day. But the price is still 650-700 bucks, so I started looking at other options. The LG Optimus Pro looks AMAZING, and I found an unlocked international one on Amazon for 480 with free shipping.
My question is whether or not the unlocked phone would work on Verizon. I don't want to buy this phone online and wait for the shipping, just to have it not work with Verizon's 4G. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This phone looks incredible.

That's too bad. So even though it's unlocked and has a SIM slot for 4G, it doesn't have the right radios?
It does have this listed for information:
Dual_Cellular_Network+Operation: Dual standby
Secondary-Cellular;Networks: CDMA1800 (BC4), LTE2100 (B1), LTE850 (B5)
Secondary+Cellular;Data-Links: cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rel. 0, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev B, LTE
Switched from HTC One and so far so good.
I prefer many aspects on this phone over htc eg bigger screen, led notification, battery life, ext memory, replaceable battery however there some aspects which I definitely prefer about htc one eg brighter screen, LCD 3 screen, superior aluminium build, BOom speaker sound(miss this most), support development, smoothness and lag free.
UI mix feelings. Compared to htc one lg does lag.
Would I switch back hmmm probably not its got more going for it then not.
Well, I currently have both. I find myself wanting to grab the LG og pro over the ONE. Mind u, I've had the ONE since it dropped. The LG is amazing for watching videos!! I like HTC sense 5 keyboard better, I love HTC ONE build quality. I love the 5.5 inch screen on the LG, I like how it offers sd card slot, and the ui is tight! Right down to the lockscreen. And I also like how I can write on the screen if needed, which surprisingly enough, I do use it a lot.
I can't pick one. I'm tore between the 2.
Me!
Got my HTC One in April.
When G Pro was released in mid July, I trade in my HTC One for it and never look back too!
I love the high performance and big screen of this phone as well as its price. It is worth every cent!
As for UI, no one beats HTC Sense UI yet!
However, let's hope that the upcoming 4.2 update will reduce the lag of 4.1 and makes it even a better phone than it is already now!

This is a very negative thing imo. I find it ridiculous that they made this phone with no option to disable the display from turning on for every text message received.
-I emailed LG about the issue and of course all I got was the usual "your feedback will be passed on" stuff. But hopefully a future update will fix this.
-The way I dealt with it was by installing Go SMS Pro. It even has a cool little pop-up window of its own that lets you drag your text message around across any screen. Pretty nifty.
Otherwise I absolutely love this phone. I'm coming from a 2-year-old HTC Inspire 4G (laugh it up lol). It now feels like a toy in comparison

Luckily all it takes to fix it is downloading one of the custom ROMs and, if you so desire, flashing the qremote app onto that ROM.
I just switched from an HTC One yesterday.
I had no issues at all... I just kept thinking of and wanting a larger screen phone that wasn't a Samsung.
After a few weeks on CL, someone contacted me about my ad (straight trade) and said they were interested. They had the OG Pro and wanted a smaller screen phone. The person was upfront about the condition and admitted that there was a a couple of nicks on the corners.
The person wanted my One so bad, that he offered $100 on top of the trade! Also got a smart cover too plus all accessories.
I wish I would have kept the ear buds though.

[Q] Should I get this phone

Ever since November, I've been thinking about purchasing a new phone. I was set on the 2nd gen Moto X as I have a $50 discount code, but I got quite busy and didn't really have time to think about how I wanted to customize it and order it. And my Nexus 4 (what I'm upgrading from) isn't terrible, I just feel it needs to be upgraded pretty soon. But T-Mobile recently offered $150 off of their G3 ($450 final) and I felt it was a steal, especially for having double the capacity and an extra gig of RAM. So both are $450 in the end. I know you guys will recommend the G3 for me, but does anyone have certain reasons why the G3 is the better of the two? Any response is appreciated. Thanks guys
Hi!
Other than what you already mentioned, MicroSD slot.
Personally, I love the power and volume buttons on the back. I rarely have to use the physical buttons anyway.

Thanks for your feedback man. How do you feel about the build quality? This is the real dealbreaker for me because I've felt the Moto X in person, and it's rock-solid in terms of build quality, but can't say anything for the G3 as I've never used it. But some people complain about the plastic build quality. I'm going to try and get my hands on one, but the another plus for this device is ROMs. Oh, sweet ROMs. The main reason this site exists haha

You're welcome!
I'm impressed with the build quality, but I came from the S3 and S2 before that so was used to "worse". It feels nice, it's light, I was worried it would seem to big for me. The curved back feels nice and makes it feel comfortable.
Two things I think could be better about this phone. The notification LED - I never notice it when I get a notification unless I'm looking directly at it.
It's too small. The S3's LED was perfect. S2's was huge and looked like it was made for kids.
If I have the phone face up on my desk at work I never notice the vibration notification for texts. I did all the time in the S3.
I theorize that the curved back makes it this way since it's less contact area when face up.
I'll have to make an effort to keep it face down and see if I notice it. Mods for notifications like "Dynamic Notifications" , custom AOSP based ROMs and possibly official lollipop will take care of the notification problem by waking up the screen for them.
By the way, I got 115+ hours on battery last time I charged, but since I picked up a tablet at the same time and my wife and I are anti-social, I don't use my phone much.
The camera is awesome with laser focus on the stock ROMs. I rarely have to use the flash, too.
Good luck with your decision.

Just my 2 cents:
The build quality is relatively solid. I use the phone without a case with a glass screen protector and mahogany dbrand skin on the back. It has taken quite a few falls and there are only minor scuffs on the corners. There is no creaking of the battery door which is a plus. On the flip side I was not too pleased with the plastic back cover. While it feels miles ahead in terms of quality over the G2 and Galaxy S models, I find that it feels 'meh'. However this is easily fixed by a dbrand skin, which I cannot recommend enough.
As for why you would prefer this phone to the Moto X:
I would say for me it would be the Micro SD, the 2K screen, the camera (with OIS) and actually LGs recent efforts to keep the software up to date. LG arguably 'released' their Lollipop update for the G3 before the Nexus devices even got it. This bodes well for future updates, really.
As for why you would prefer the Moto X:
The build quality is great and the customisability is a plus. Moreover the software is much less bloated on the Moto X and less resource heavy. This however is pretty subjective and many actually like the G3 software.
In all honesty, I probably would have opted for the Moto X if it had had an SD card slot. However I got the G3 for a killer price and it has everything I need. I have no need to complain but it just feels rather... uninspiring.
Just my honest opinion
I've had mine for a couple of weeks and am very happy with it.
Build quality: it feels solid and well made. I would prefer a textured back (like the G3 S) rather than the smooth back, but like poster above said, I can get a dbrand skin or something similar if I really want.
There is obviously an issue with cracks on top/bottom edges, but LG say that was a production problem that's been sorted. Do I trust that statement? No. We'll see what happens.
No complaints about anything. I even think stock rom is great (after being a Cyanogen user for 4 years).
g3 vs sgs3 roms
I also thought about buying this phone. However, I entered the forum and I was terrified a small amount of the available roms. My current device is sgs3 where I can select in countless available modifications. If something did not work, or just does not suit me I can quickly change it to something else. How is it here? This is as bad as can be seen from the number of topics in the Android Development section?

Wow comparing an old phone to a last year's phone.. Funny. Remember it's not easy to compile good stuff/mods to create a roms as there are many things to consider. Give it some time impatient guy.
On topic: i am 50/50 with this phone.
Pros:
*Camera with ois and laser af
*Ergonomics
*Plastic build yes, but its much better and premium looking than chrome which really looks cheap. (Hi Samsung)
*5.5 inch display in such a compact phone. (Hi Sony)
*Faster when it comes to SW updates
*Music output is great whether you're using speaker or earphones
*Power and volume buttons at the back? Genius! Makes the phone clean at the sides
*I prefer Knock code than fingerprint scanner. My phone is still safe even when I'm sleeping. Lol (Hi Apple)
Cons:
*Starts to heat up faster than other quadcore phones
*Ui is beautiful but sluggish
*Speakers at the back is ok but much better if they put it at the bottom for much clearer sound
*Stuttering even when using other launchers like nova
*I didn't pay for a premium device just to get this phone. Honestly, lag is tolerable but cmon.. This has a 2/3 gb of Ram with enough storage and has SD801 processor. We shouldn't be experiencing this kind of problem
Well i don't hate my phone. I love it. It's just the software that seems to be the problem. again it's for you to decide. You can use our personal experience as your reference but the choice will be yours.. Go to where your heart desires
I have found that without a case, the phone is pretty slick, and really thin, if you don't have a good grip on it, it will slip, if your not careful, not a deal breaker, just with any phone you gotta be careful

@Green_Ranger,
Thanks for comprehensive reply. I'm not saying that here should be as many roms as there are currently in sgs3 forum, it would be at least unreasonable, but comparing it to samsung's section form the same period there was twice more topics or even more . But no matter... I hope that some developers will start to get interested in it in the future.
I'm really happy that you've written not only about advantages but also about the other side of the coin. Of course, they aren't serious flaws but it's always useful to know the opinion about such things from an experienced user.
Maybe stuttering is quite strange, because not considering the price, any way you slice it it's main LG phone and it have powerful hardware comparable to the best devices of others produces so it is premium device. Undoubtedly it is caused by software problem (GPU I guess) and there's possibility that LG (or even one of developers) will fix it hereafter.
I have one question, how about battery life?
I just moved over to an ls990 (Sprint) from an HTC One (m7)...
Pros:
Much Better Camera
Much Improved battery life
Removable Battery
Removable SD Card
Cons:
I don't like the rear buttons (maybe you might)
AOSP ROMS are still very buggy (at least on the ls990/Sprint)
Overall I'm pretty happy with the choice, although I wouldn't have switched unless my HTC hadn't completely died (I'm guessing it was the internal battery.... which might as well be impossible to get to).
I would expect within the next year for ROMs to become much more stable for the LG G3, and I'm happy with the choice thus far. Hope that helps.

Yeah, there were/are tons of modded stock roms for s3. Thing is, 99.9999% percent of them don't deseve to exist.
The only good stock ones are 4.4.2 ports, omega rom and archidroid. And, maybe, S5 revolution. Other roms are "Let's take a stock rom, make a ton of useless build.prop edits and post it!"...
The g3 situation is different - roms are few, but distinct and good. There are some aosp/cm roms, from pure AOSP to Temasek's "Gotta kang em 'all!' builds, so things here aren't worse.
Battery life, is, unfortunately, same as on S3 or even worse. Bright 2K screen, snapdragon 801 and 4g don't add to battery life. 6h of 4g web browsing at most and 2-3 h of hardcore gaming is pretty bad.
There are serious flaws, actually. The main one is the absence of any cooling system for 801, plus it's facing the screen - which forced LG's software team to throttle it on 60° to prevent lowering screen brightness too low.

OP3 vs Nexus/Pixel

I am Nexus user but considering moving to OP3 due to price and specs. Pixel is my other option but its expensive. Have any of you made the move and how has it made you feel? I love the Google phones for the fastest updates but I still use custom roms, Pure Nexus is my favorite.
I see there are some custom roms for OP3 but how good are they? Are there any stable nougat roms yet?
When will OP upgrade to N?
Lots of questions I know but I want to make sure I am making the right choice.
Thanks guys.
I love the Nexus phones but the Pixel price turns me off. Never was a fan of OnePlus until I picked up the OP2 and then the OP3 a week later lol. Great company that supports the developers and listens to its users. I'm really enjoying mine. Our devs are great.
I went from 6P to the Note 7 and now here. I like both the former better than the latter. The 6P was good, no grief with it but there were some things I didn't like about it. The bezels were huge and you notice the easier handling of the +3. I have had several phones with the fingerprint scanner in the back and I don't like it. People say you will get used to it and come to prefer it but I've come to almost hating it and I'm quite confident I will never like it. I also don't like the volume on the right (thumb side) and worse for the 6P it was almost centered on the phone which combined with its weight made it far to easy to adjust the volume accidentally when picking it up. I did that almost daily. I big case fixed the problem but then you have a big case which has its own issues. I was never worried about going past 1080 because in use I don't notice the difference and until VR takes off I have not compelling reason to care about higher resolutions. I'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen in the year or probably less that I'll own this phone.
Performance... I've had all the Nexus line except for the Galaxy Nexus, all the SGS line except for 5, most of the note line, various Moto, Sony, HTC, assorted Chinese offerings, you get the idea. I've rommed the lot of them, made all the usual adjustments along with the personalizations that people like me make. Those things in no way give me expertise but they do tell me that the performance of most modern phones is pretty darn good and its been a few phones since I've been wishing the thing was smoother. If you're someone with similar experience and you're happy with your Nexus device save your money until the next thing. You can already run assistant which is the only really meaningful add of the Pixels. For me escape from the rear scanner was my primary move issue, really happy to be rid of it. Good luck.
Just realized it's sold out so I guess I'm not getting it right now.
What's the favorite custom rom usually?

Cm13 - resurrection remix or cm14 nightlies with pixelfy mod. Both personal choices
I'm in a very similar dilemma at the moment, really on the fence between the Pixel XL 128gb and the 3T.
The pixel has the superior camera and EIS for video (big deal for me personally) going for it. The extra storage space is also very important, but that will most likely be fixed with the 3T. Daydream compatibility and unlimited google photos storage are also nice bonuses. Obvious drawback though is the fact it's twice as expensive.
The 3(T) gives fantastic value for money and is completely competitive in terms of features and performance. Drawbacks are the camera architecture which makes custom roms destroy the quality and (a very personal gripe) I don't really like the communication strategy from Oneplus. The way the communication over the 3T is being handled, especially with promises that they would only launch a single flagship each year and would not bring out another Oneplus X just rankle. The company doesn't give the impression of being trustworthy, so who knows what the future holds in terms of software updates and product support when something breaks. But that value though...
The Pixel is clearly the better phone, by the same token it's clearly not worth double the price of the Oneplus. One phone delivers value, the other probably the best Android user experience out there. Personally I'll wait until Tuesday and make a decision based on the 3T presentation. Much will also depend on availability - my old HTC One M7 has been broken for a month and I'm now using a $50 chinese phone... Sick of it and can't wait to replace it. So if I can get either the Pixel or the 3T significantly quicker then the other, my choice will probably default upon that one.
