If I'm on a rooted MM rom (modest rom) with the latest firmware rooted and unlocked.. Can I install a LP rom without losing root and bootloader unlock . Can I simply install a 5.1 or whatever rom?

if it isn't a rooted rom you will loose root although most are rooted and you can just flash super su in twrp to root it. and roms don't write anything to the boot loader unless you are installing a full stock image in Odin. (tldr: yes)
Thanks for the clarification

Thank you for taking time out of your day to help.
I just got an s4 on tmobile and I have some questions. I tried rooting it and ran into an error. I found an answer online, which was to flash a stock 4.3 rom via odin, then try the CFT autoroot. So it's all good and I'm rooted. I just have some questions:
1. Why was I able to flash a rom via odin, when all the rom installation guides I see require a CWM or some other recovery?
2. When I try to boot up into recovery I think it's the stock recovery and not a custom recovery that allows me to install a zip. When I used CFT auto root, I saw it booted into a custom recovery to root, did it just get deleted after that?
3. How will my root work with the 4.4 ota? When I check for software updates it says my phone has been modified so they aren't available. So how can I get the ota? Am i better off flashing a custom 4.4 rom? I want closest to stock as possible, so if you have any recommendations for stock 4.4 roms that would be great. Or can I flash the 4.4 stock rom as I did with odin?
4. How does tethering work with root? If I have unlimited data with 2.5gb tethering data, now that I'm rooted, can tmobile tell I'm tethering if I'm using a root tethering app?
Again thank you very much for your help.
1. You did not flash a ROM with Odin, it was firmware.. Very different
2. Yes, I believe that's what cf-auto root does
3. Yes you can flash a 4.4 firmware like you did with 4.3 as long as its for your device, or flash a custom recovery and then a 4.4 ROM
4. Not too familiar with this, but it might be possible to get around it

Awesome thank you. If I flash the official 4.4 firmware for my device, will I keep my root?

No if it is an untouched fully stock rom/firmware but there will be rooted versions of the stock firmware/rom.
Stay with root, you will be better off, custom roms are usually available within a day after ota updates

well the title says it, is it possible to flash a rooted lollipop rom w/o already being rooted?
i made the mistake of flashing the KDZ lollipop rom and now i cannot root it cause it is not available and cannot flash rooted lollipop roms since they all seem to require root prior to installation.
so is it possible to flash a rooted rom from windows if the phone is not rooted?
thanks in advance for any help and guide. cheers

Yes, those are the steps.
Do I need to unlock LGG3 just to have it rooted? My rooting is only for apps that work for rooted phones. I won't be installing a custom rom.

If you don`t want to install a custom rom you cannot run a rooted stock Lollipop rom as it cannot be rooted atm, only KK can be rooted.

For the international D855 for instance you don`t need to unlock the bootloader, just root it with PurpleDrake (i used that and it works well) and (optional install a custom recovery (TWRP 2.8.4.0) to flash the latest superSU.zip or customs roms/kernels) or install the superSU app from Play. What model do you have?

I have the Verizon VS985 kitkat 4.4.2. Titanium Backup Pro is the reason for my rooting. Nothing else.
Hi, would like to know if it is possible to upgrade to lollipop using pc companion. I am currently rooted, locked bootloader, custom recovery. Build no. 14.4.A.0.157. If so, will I have a stock official rom with no root and stock recovery? Thanks. I would like to return back my phone to stock with latest updates.
There will be no root. I'm not sure what about the custom recovery though. Also I think SuperSU or Superuser won't be deleted.
in general there will be NoRoot.
And if you want to update to an official android version I suggest to download the ftf of it and flash with flash tool that would be easier

As the title says, just looking for a stock and rooted Marshmallow, I will go on and remove the stuff I don't want. I have not seen one or my google skills are failing...

Or a quick way to go from CM 13 to rooted stock...I really don't want to have to go through the whole process....I will if that's the only way though...

This might be it. Post in this thread and inquire before you do anything. You might need to flash and Unlock, again, but once you Unlock, you might be able to use it Unlocked/Rooted as-is. Again, though, inquire there.

Which CM13 version are you using? Have you upgraded the bootloader to MM yet? If you are using an older version of CM13 that was on the LP bootloader then you'll have to go through the unlocking process once more with the LP-MM hybrid firmware. If you have already done that and you have the MM bootloader then you can flash JasmineROM or PaulPizz as a close-to-stock ROM. Jasmine is probably the closest to stock.

I have a copy of PF3 firmware that's almost stock. It has busybox, deodexed, and zip-align. To root, you could flash su zip for system-less or just install su from playstore. It still has Knox and all bloat.
