Is search broken? - About xda-developers.com

Anytime I search anything on here, I get a 404 error and the search defaults to all of XDA it looks like. It's been having issues since yesterday it seems.

Yep, I noticed this today as well. You can get it to work by going to the advanced search though. Click the little gear next to the search bar on the right side nav. Over there ------->

Looks like it works better now.

Battery icon with numbers, and 1% fix - tilt 2

I have looked around for a fix that will show the battery level in 1% increments....but nobody will confirm whether this works for the tilt 2 without causing problems. Should I just assume that if something works with WM6.1 it will work with 6.5?
Also, it is so stupid to not have a better battery icon...is there a way to replace it with one that actually shows a freaking number? I don't want anything fancy, and I don't want to install a pack that replaces ALL my icons. Anyone?
EDIT:
Just thought of this. Does anyone know how to change the colors on the top start bar, and bottom start bar in tf3d? I was thinking of wanting them both transparent, but that might make the stop icons hard to see....maybe just the bottom tranparent.....hell, I guess I could pick a dark background and make them both tranparent.
Anyway....anyone?
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-ariel-battery-monitor-v1-6-2.html maybe this would help? i've used it and it doesn't replace any icons. it stays at the top bar. you can move it to cover the battery area or just leave it by the start logo

Thanks a lot...I will check that out.
I think I would still prefer editing the built in icon...just seemed less "hacked" to me.

Not really in interested in flashing a whole new ROM just for this. The ROMS are nice, but none of them are 100% perfect....I don't want to deal with radio's....I don't want to deal with some of my keyboard buttons not working...I don't want to deal with getting some strange ATT registry setting back just so x or y program will run right.
The phone runs great now...just want a couple tweaks, not a full overhaul.
Quentin- has offered in this thread to make a modified battery.dll for various specific devices, but it seems he hasn't poked his head in that thread for about a month.

I'll keep track of that thread.
I figure others might be looking for the same stuff..so I'd like to update this thread as I find what I need.
Finally found a replacement battery icon that works on the tilt 2 here:

still looking for a way to get 1% increments on the stock ROM.

I probably went overboard....but if he would have read the posts he would have seen that we were discussing this in depth already. It would be like me walking into a white house press conference on the state of the economy and saying "hey...uhhh..maybe someone should try to fix it and stuff"
As for me ignoring the 2 suggestions.
1. I thanked the first guy but RESPECTFULLY mentioned that this was more of a work-around and not a fix. I also posted a fix to the first part of my problem in case he, or anyone else, was interested....not sure how that is supposed to show i ignored him.
2. The second suggestion was to a thread that the head guy didn't seem to updating anymore, which the poster stated up front as he gave me the link. I thanked him as well...and agreed that the thread did not have a solution for this issue...was never a **** to him.
Anyway.....I'm sorry, I shouldn't have reacted like that...I know he was only trying to help.
Back to the topic at hand. It appears the hold up on the 1% driver is that people are having an issue pulling the proper files from the tilt2's because of write protection or something......so looks like this is in limbo while people smarter than me attempt to help the rest of us.
Hi:
I installed the attached cab driver, and it seemed to work fine for me, with no side effects.
I found it with one of the Brian taskbars (gfreek edition), which by the way looked amazing, but the signal icon didn't get replaced with the new one.
Hope this helps

The fix you posted is for when the notification manager and the battery icon show values that are 1% away from each other. This thread is about a different issue, namely getting a 1% driver that works on the stock Tilt2 ROM. Thanks for the fix though; I think I have that problem also. I once saw my notification say 0% (when the battery driver was rejected) while the icon showed 1%.

Updated Car Home

I know that the G2 has a "newer" car home app, and I thought it was the latest one until I read this:
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2010/10/car-home-for-android-gets-personal.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+OfficialGoogleMobileBlog+(Official+Google+Mobile+Blog)&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher
The "newest" car home allows you to add your own shortcuts to it, give car home its own background, and change icon tint color. When you search for it in market, it does not show up.
I am guessing there is little we can do for this without root, but I was wondering if anyone may have an APK that we could install for the updated car home.
You can use appbrain to update Car Home.

I second that. I thought that I updated mine through AppBrain but I don't see any difference (ie few empty spaces for icons and no way to add custom shortcuts).
Can someone may be very nice and upload a working apk or a link for us? Not that I'm lazy, just not sure which one is the right one.
Thank you in advance.
i updated to the newer car home on my nexus and liked the ability re-arrange and add shortcuts. i was missing that on my G2. even tho the app is only for the droid and n1 officially, it works just dandy on my G2. i found the apk via a google search. try this: https://sites.google.com/site/droidlife54/home/com.google.android.carhome-1.apk?attredirects=0&d=1

[Q] Which MIUI should I install?

I want to see how good this ROM is but I saw MIUI 12.24 in the Development Forum but I also found a MIUI 1.1.7 linked within the same thread mentioned above.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. If I do go with the 1.17, do I still need to flash the English pack as well?
Go here: http://miui-dev.com/forums/showthread.php?2332-Rom-0.1.14-RC1-by-onedr0p
Thats the newest one . Freaking Amazing. Built in themeing with a themebrowser, awesome launcher animation options, and when you go to the "recent apps " menu (by holding down home), and swiping your finger from left to right a search box comes up. Plus its built in SMS client is even better than handcent, with pop-ups and several other features. The music player has built in lyrics in its widget and is full of cool features. I could go on and on.
Out of all roms on Android, I think this is the most innovative and amazing. They really "push the envelope" adding new android features weekely.
no the 1.17 already comes with the english pack.
edit: actually the link above me, with the 1.14 or whatever theres a known universal problem with the rom..that when you make calls you cant be heard..they are trying to fix it..unless they already made another thread about the fix or something, cause i dont see it

compass backwards with cm7?

I posted at cyanogenmod.com with no responses... I have cyanogenmod 7 installed on my incredible 2.
I noticed in google maps that the blue triangle wasn't facing the correct way. I then opened google sky map, and the sky goes the wrong way when I move the phone. ie. when i pan across the sky to the left, the stars on the screen go left (instead of going right, appearing to be in the same place in the sky)
Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a way to calibrate it? or is this a bug with cm7?

Known bug with AOSP ROM's.

Also was a bug on stock froyo but fixed in gingerbread. I'm going to guess that HTC's incomplete release of source code has hampered aosp's abiity to get it fixed

Does this screw up Navigation as well? I imagine it would. Been wanting to try CM7 on my inc2. I can deal with arrows pointing the wrong way or sky map not working right, but I use navigation way too much for work travel.

No, navigation works just fine. It will work while you are moving, but once you're stationary people have reported the compass being backwards. I personally have used navigation on CM7 many times without a hitch.

I used the nav earlier it works while driving. The only time it messed up is when I stopped at a gas station for a few minutes. As soon as I started moving again, it corrected itself.
But why is it backwards? Only aosp roms ..

I have used cm7 since i rooted my phone and never had an issue with navigation being wrong. yes the compass is backwards when stationary but i never use directions or navigation when im standing still.
Navigation works correctly. It's just when you're not moving, the blue triangle is facing the wrong direction.
The bigger issue is google sky map not working...

It's a conspiracy linked to the rotating SOFT keys issue in AOSP ROMs.

Lg g3 Keyboard just unusable

Is it just me or does everyone else agree that the stock keyboard is unusable. Simple texts or emails take 5 times longer then just using the android keyboard. Its horrible. Horrible prediction and does actions I never even ask it to do. Haven't even got to the lag!!! I know there is a mod to fix the lag but I don't think it does much. Anyone else dealing with this?? Anything I can do?
I can't say I agree. The keyboard on the LG G3 has to be one of the best I have ever used. Very close to the one on the iPhone in terms of responsivenss, pretty much no lag and the predictions are quite good.
Have you tried the advanced settings for the keyboard?
The only issue I have with it is not inserting spaces as I'm swiping.
Tbh i love it. Its really great.
What lag are you talking about thats because of the LG keyboard?
For me the keyboard is very fast and the prediction is perfect. It looks good aswell and is very customizable.
It's just you the stock key board is one of the first I have not had or wanted to change soon at I turned the phone on
First stock keyboard that hasn't made me switch to swiftkey... Yet anyway
Glad I noticed this post. I had automatically installed swiftkey and turned it off for a while to see if I liked the LG keyboard. It seams very responsive and easy to use. I love the way you can increase the size of the keyboard.
Yeah the keyboard is pretty bad.
I used it for 1 month straight and was too tired of its errors. I didn't see any lag with it but things like swiping to "is" and getting "it's" drove me nuts and wasted a ton of time correcting. Far too many of these types of errors.
Back to Swype and it works perfect as always.
I like it at first but now reverted back to the Google Keyboard. I find the predictive not that good, say you wanted totype "Ship" it would automatically correct it to "Shop". Any word typed that is not in the dictionary it replaces with one that is, its trying to be too clever.
But the biggest problem is I get this bug where I can only type numbers.
There are good things about this keyboard, numbers shown on top row and excellent spacing of keys.

Ok, so switch to another keyboard. Seriously, these types of threads are out of control here. Are we getting all the rejects from the rest of XDA? Are all the smart folks buying other phones? What is going on here.
That was a little harsh. Last I checked this was a discussion board.

You know, you can easily ignore threads with titles that don't interest you instead of complaining... This is a thread about a feature on the phone that this forum is for - it is perfectly on topic.
I agree with the OP its one of the worst I've used because of how tiny the buttons are, I just switched to stock Google and am typing much faster because of it.
Just use Swiftkey, it's free !
