Weather instead of date on Google search bar - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Does anyone know how to change this on my pixel. Mine came out of the box showing the date but I'd much rather it showed the weather.

Nevermind the launcher just updated and it sorted itself out

Took me a bit to figure this out as well. Surest way I found to get weather was to swipe right into the Google Feed and pull to refresh.
I've had the weather revert back to date after a reboot. Refreshing Google Feed fixed that as well.

I had to go into to google assistant settings and change weather cards from no to yes. After I did that the weather shows up in the upper right corner of launcher home screen.

Thanks guys.

It didn't change until I asked Google what the weather was.

I'm cant get the weather to appear either. It did after Pixel Launcher updated, but went away again after I powered down the phone for the night.
Location is enabled. Cards are enabled with show weather for location.

Swipe to Google now and pull to refresh. When the weather updates it updates and main screen with the weather. Each time you restart the device, this will happen. I'm sure it's a bug. At least I hope it's not intended to be that way.

You can check in the setting screen on Google now. Click customize and then select everything else. Check if all your weather option are set to yes.

Mine has just started showing up with the weather on there too. Noticed it a couple of hours ago.
I had done all of the steps people had mentioned previously a few days ago but nothing worked at the time.
So basically my advice would be to:
1. Do everything people have already mentioned in this thread (enable cards, refresh and update pixel launcher).
2. Sit back, with a nice cold beverage and wait. It'll show up sooner or later

I've seen a few of these suggestions around but I had to go digging to find the solution to why I couldn't get it to work for me. I'm going to give a list of things to try.
Update pixel launcher in the play store. You may not be able to see it in your apps so you might have to search for it or go to this link on your device:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher
Swipe to the Google screen to the left and pull down to refresh
Toggle location off then back on using quick settings
Open the google page to the left and use the hamburger menu and select customize.
Select "everything else" at the bottom. Find anything that says weather and set it to yes.
The last one was my solution. I forgot that I had disabled these way back when Google Now was new.
If Google is derping in your country this is the most recent version of Pixel Launcher

Those were all Yes already.
I have found a reliable solution, at least for me. Location must be set to "High accuracy".
Weather would go away after every reboot if set to "Device only". Seems strange considering that the weather appears fine on the card itself just "Device only".

Weather Issue

I have downloaded a few watch faces that have the weather on them but all I see is #wct#. Any ideas on how to fix?
I had the same issue. What I found to work was this:
In settings select manual location and put in a zip code
Close (FC or swipe away the app) then reopen facer
Go back into settings (usually not necessary)
Watch should be displaying weather. Make sure you have the latest version from play store.

Cool deal. Note that sometimes weather doesn't seem to update. Watch reboot usually fixes it, but sometimes requires the same 'swipe away, go into settings' to force a refresh.

Try swiping or FCing the facer app, then go back in, open settings and go back out. That forces a refresh.

Doesn't happen all that often, at least for me. Of course weather is definitely a bit buggy...work in progress. Price we pay for being 'early adopters' so to speak. I can't bring myself to be frustrated.

Weather card missing from Google Now

So I woke up this morning to my weather card missing from Google Now. I don't recall swiping it off but it is gone. Is there a way to recover this card. I have already tried resetting my home location, turning cards on/off, and deleting cache. Any suggestions?
In the settings of Google now you have to check the weather card that should be all
Verstuurd vanaf mijn Nexus 5X met Tapatalk
I have both "interested in weather updates for home/work" enabled, still no card.
Wait until tomorrow. Usually cards like that will pop back up you next day or the next time the weather changes.
Alrighty, I'll update tomorrow if it comes back.
Mine is gone too and I know for sure I didn't swipe it away. I think it's something on their side.

What about just rebooting (in our unrooted 5x it would be turn off and turn back on the phone?)
That's worked for me in almost any situation like yours.
Reboot did not fix it. The card did return this morning, so it seems the only fix is waiting until the next day.
You tried deleting app data for Google and setting it up again?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Just something to test; try disabling GPS and see if it comes up?
Not to sound like you guys are stupid, but have you guys tried scrolling down? When I have a lot of cards on Now I tend to find my weather card near the bottom for some reason.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Nope, I had already tried all that was mentioned here(scrolling to the bottom was the first thing I did) and it did not bring the card back. Like I said it did show up this morning. So I guess if you swipe it away you can only get it back by waiting.
Go to settings within Google Now> scroll down to "your feed">Delete card preferences> Turn Feed back on> set your feed back up. If you have a customized feed, you will have to re-do it all.
Thank you,
John

Turbo 2 Marshmallow Impressions / Questions

Starting a thread, since it seems it's officially out.
Let's share our impressions of the update, and any questions or issues that you've encountered.
First Impression:
Looks and feels almost exactly the same as before so far. App drawer is exactly the same. Colors, the same, etc.
However, moving the up or down button doesn't give you the option to change the do not disturb (you could make it priority or no disturbances). You can still mute/go to vibrate by clicking on the 'bell' icon, and if you click the down arrow, you can change volumes on music and alarms.
Edit: you can swipe down twice/swipe down with two fingers from notifications bar, and the Do Not Disturb option is in the lowest right corner of the toggles. Tapping it will allow you to do Do Not Disturb settings. Note: once you click it, it automatically enables do not disturb.
I miss the old way. Anyone know how to change it back and/or a quick way to get to that?
Also, Now On Tap is not enabled by default. You have to go to Settings/Google/Search&Now/Now on Tap
Accessing Google Now has changed. Instead of swiping up from bottom of screen, you have to hold the 'home' icon (the circle in the middle of the triangle and square).
If you have turned on 'Google On Tap', contextual cards will pop up as determined by On Tap. If you click the 'G' below, you'll get to Google Now. If you're tired of On Tap you can click the three circles near the G to turn it off.
I really thought Verizon was waiting for the Marshmallow update to add wifi calling capability to the Turbo 2, but it's still nowhere in sight. Why do the iPhone and Samsung get the wifi calling feature and not the Droid-branded Verizon flagship?
Glad to have System UI tuner back, and Doze will be welcome at work tomorrow.

My son and I are using Turbo 2s on T-Mobile and got the update OTA today. That was nice but now both our LTE is limited to 1 mbps. Running SpeedTest it starts at 5 to 8 and then drop to 1 and flat lines there.
My wife is getting mid 30s with her N6 which is what I got at home before the update.
Be interesting if anyone else running a Turbo 2 not on Verizon has the same issue.
Well, found a fix... Kinda. I was scratching my head over this and searched T-Mobile throttling. Turns out with our Turbo 2s on Marshmallow T-Mobile's Binge On service is applied to ALL my data. Once I turned it off our speeds came back.
In case anyone else is using their Turbo 2 on T-Mobile here are the dial codes to check and switch Binge on and off.
Check: #264#
Off: #263#
On: #266#

It is a set of hidden tweaks, like Quick Menu options and Status Bar Icons. You unlock it by pulling down the quick menu and holding the gear for several seconds. Here is a basic overview: http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-system-ui-tuner
I do not like the new dialer. And they never fixed the phone/audio jack problem... I have to hit speaker phone when using the jack making a call.
I am not able to unlock the system UI tuner?
Droid Turbo 2 on Verizon
Google Hangouts

Not being a smart arse, and you probably know this, but I figured it was worth mentioning that you can use google hangouts to make wifi calls.. If you use a VPN this can work anywhere in the world for free

Reboot and try again. It doesn't seem to unlock on the fresh install.
Had to uninstall waze because it kept force closing every few minutes. It happened when I updated yesterday.

There are 4 ways to access the toggles in in your notifications pull down:
1. swipe down twice from notification bar
2. swipe down with two fingers from notification bar
3. swipe down once from notification bar, and tap the grey notification area
4. triple tap on notification bar
I just found out about the fourth way and it's the easiest way for me to access it.
I have had marshmallow running a few days now and I am having severe battery drain from "Android system " under battery usage. I have factory reset 3 times . I can't seem to find out the issue. It seems like it just won't sleep and is constantly syncing or something.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe you can reflash the official firmware if it is available yet. I have not heard of this issue.

Notification sound with no apparent notification item

I love my new Pixel 2 XL but despite my best efforts to identify what app or system service was sending repeated (and annoying) default notification sounds but not showing any other message or indication, I finally hit on a solution that seems to work.
SET THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION SOUND TO "NONE"
settings>sound>advanced>default notification sound
Then set the notification sounds to whatever you want for each app you actually care to hear from.

I have noticed this as well.
<notification sound> no new text or email...
For me, it's just easier to ignore the errant tone once in a while than to set notifications for individual apps (cause I'm totally lazy like that).
But THAT is the beauty of Android... to each their own and there are always multiple ways to skin that cat
Use a notification log
I had this same issue. Turned out to be an app I had disabled pop ups for.
I have a (potentially) better solution. Add a notification log widget to find the culprit:
1. Long press on home screen and go to widgets.
2. Drag the settings widget to the home screen.
3. In the list of options, choose Notifications
Now you can see a log of your notifications. Next time you get the sound but no pop up, go into the log and find the offender at the top of the list.
For me it was a game I didn't need so I deleted it, but you can remedy the problem as you see fit.

Glad you found it! Sorry I just saw this. I forget where I learned about this, but it wasn't easy to find. I'm glad I could pass it on to someone else, I'm sure it could be plenty useful.
I'm having the same issue but it's not even showing in the notification log. Makes me want to throw it out the window to be honest. There's time where it will go off every 30 seconds. Off to reset I guess and see if that works.
same thing here pixel 2 oreo 8.1 notification sound...no thing new in the "hot list" or email or message
very weird, and randomly at night too which is the suck
2019 and no change
Hello, same issue still persists in 2019. Every few weeks i must dump the default sound as it sets it self up again.
Still no idea why it does it, just a temp bandaid to curb the annoyance. I notice a slightly higher battery drain too, tells me something is running

Sounds like a re-install is in order...if you have an unlocked bootloader, when was the last time you've done an update via Full Factory image? I'd imagine all that might be sorted out by reinstall/updating; with the "-w" removed of course...
I hope you consider it, and I hope this helps...

Anyone else pop-up notifications not working?

I have noticed any of the apps that supports pop-up notification doesn't work? I'm pretty sure it's because of the notch being in the way.
Mine comes and goes. It's very frustrating!
I've experienced this a few times. A reboot fixed it. I read somewhere that someone said they stopped working after using the Pixel Stand. I haven't tested that to verify.
Mine come and go as well. The first time they stopped working, I checked Messages, and it somehow turned itself off (it was definitely on). Flipped it back on, and it worked for a few hours. Rebooted my phone yesterday and it's been working. I'm hoping for a lot of fixes in the November update...
I don't know if this is your issue or not but I found it yesterday on the interwebs.
Search settings for custom then select custom restrictions.
In here I had a check next to "Don't pop notifications on screen" when the screen is on.
I unchecked it and now I get heads up notifications on the applications that I turned them on for.

It's definitely the pixel stand. Every time I take my phone off I have to reboot for notification previews to start working again. I set this, hopefully it works. Any caveats?

I have not yet tested the notifications when placing the Pixel 3 on the Pixel Stand so have not seen any caveats. But just see this as a temporary fix until Google releases the patch for the ambient notification bug. Hope it helped.

Didn't work. Unchecked this yesterday, took my phone off the stand this morning, no previews or popups... They really need to update their app. This is stupid. I have to reboot my phone every day...
