Turbo 2 Marshmallow Impressions / Questions - Droid Turbo 2 General

Starting a thread, since it seems it's officially out.
Let's share our impressions of the update, and any questions or issues that you've encountered.

First Impression:
Looks and feels almost exactly the same as before so far. App drawer is exactly the same. Colors, the same, etc.
However, moving the up or down button doesn't give you the option to change the do not disturb (you could make it priority or no disturbances). You can still mute/go to vibrate by clicking on the 'bell' icon, and if you click the down arrow, you can change volumes on music and alarms.
Edit: you can swipe down twice/swipe down with two fingers from notifications bar, and the Do Not Disturb option is in the lowest right corner of the toggles. Tapping it will allow you to do Do Not Disturb settings. Note: once you click it, it automatically enables do not disturb.
I miss the old way. Anyone know how to change it back and/or a quick way to get to that?
Also, Now On Tap is not enabled by default. You have to go to Settings/Google/Search&Now/Now on Tap

Accessing Google Now has changed. Instead of swiping up from bottom of screen, you have to hold the 'home' icon (the circle in the middle of the triangle and square).
If you have turned on 'Google On Tap', contextual cards will pop up as determined by On Tap. If you click the 'G' below, you'll get to Google Now. If you're tired of On Tap you can click the three circles near the G to turn it off.

I really thought Verizon was waiting for the Marshmallow update to add wifi calling capability to the Turbo 2, but it's still nowhere in sight. Why do the iPhone and Samsung get the wifi calling feature and not the Droid-branded Verizon flagship?

Glad to have System UI tuner back, and Doze will be welcome at work tomorrow.

My son and I are using Turbo 2s on T-Mobile and got the update OTA today. That was nice but now both our LTE is limited to 1 mbps. Running SpeedTest it starts at 5 to 8 and then drop to 1 and flat lines there.
My wife is getting mid 30s with her N6 which is what I got at home before the update.
Be interesting if anyone else running a Turbo 2 not on Verizon has the same issue.

Well, found a fix... Kinda. I was scratching my head over this and searched T-Mobile throttling. Turns out with our Turbo 2s on Marshmallow T-Mobile's Binge On service is applied to ALL my data. Once I turned it off our speeds came back.
In case anyone else is using their Turbo 2 on T-Mobile here are the dial codes to check and switch Binge on and off.
Check: #264#
Off: #263#
On: #266#

It is a set of hidden tweaks, like Quick Menu options and Status Bar Icons. You unlock it by pulling down the quick menu and holding the gear for several seconds. Here is a basic overview: http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-system-ui-tuner

I do not like the new dialer. And they never fixed the phone/audio jack problem... I have to hit speaker phone when using the jack making a call.

I am not able to unlock the system UI tuner?

Not being a smart arse, and you probably know this, but I figured it was worth mentioning that you can use google hangouts to make wifi calls.. If you use a VPN this can work anywhere in the world for free

Reboot and try again. It doesn't seem to unlock on the fresh install.

Had to uninstall waze because it kept force closing every few minutes. It happened when I updated yesterday.

There are 4 ways to access the toggles in in your notifications pull down:
1. swipe down twice from notification bar
2. swipe down with two fingers from notification bar
3. swipe down once from notification bar, and tap the grey notification area
4. triple tap on notification bar
I just found out about the fourth way and it's the easiest way for me to access it.

I have had marshmallow running a few days now and I am having severe battery drain from "Android system " under battery usage. I have factory reset 3 times . I can't seem to find out the issue. It seems like it just won't sleep and is constantly syncing or something.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe you can reflash the official firmware if it is available yet. I have not heard of this issue.

[Q] Status Bar

At first I thought I was the only one suffering from this annoyance, but then I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgvTFu6UKJI
See, the problem is that whenever I send or receive a message, this icon pops up. At first I thought I was delusional, but then it repeatedly became clear that this was truly a bug. I managed to get a screenshot of it (which was really difficult considering that it only pops up for about half a second). I want to know if I anyone else has had this issue, and whether or not someone found a workaround from it popping up. Anyone at all?
Are you using Hangouts?
Nope! Stock everything, and unrooted. Using the HTC messaging app

Probably Carrier IQ for some reason tracking your location. My LG G2 does the same thing.

This bothered me as well, but I have since gotten rid of it. Granted that you're rooted, you can download an Xposed module called NotifyClean. It listens for "notifications" in the status bar, and you have the option to disable them. Download/install/activate the module, turn on the listening feature, and send a message. When you go back into NotifyClean, you'll see "Data Usage". Select that, then select "Data usage is running". It should highlight the selection in red, and ultimately get rid of the little annoying icon that shows up for a split second.
It seems that I'm not the only one having an issue. Well hopefully there's a better work around for this because I don't plan rooting my phone for a long time! Flashing roms and tweaks could be addicting haha! Hopefully someone finds a better fix to hide this annoying notification!

Yeah, take it from someone that flashed a ROM today and every mod/tweak I could find... it gets addicting. I spent 8 hours at my computer today going over various mods and personalizing my phone. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to help with your issue that doesn't involve root. If you know what is causing the notification then you may be able to go into settings>apps>all and disable the offender?

I managed to get a screenshot, and I checked what app was causing it but it was a system app called "Data Usage". Anyone know how to turn off data usage notifications? Turning off data usage alert doesn't help
This is normal behavior. While it shouldn't be popping up, its normal as in that it is what is done when a SMS/MMS is sent while on WiFi.
You can locate the app through Application Manager and tap it to Disable Notifications. This doesnt require root or anything.
Taking shots in the dark here, but there is a data usage section under wireless & networks in settings. In that menu there is a toggle for 'alert me about data usage'. You can then drag a slider up and down to set the cap for when your phone warns you about data usage. Maybe yours is dragged to the very bottom so it alerts you about any data usage?
Unlikely because it would show up during everything, but worth asking. Maybe just disabling the notification toggle would work. Also, does your carrier ship with specific software to monitor data usage? If so then check all of those apps settings to see if anything has any effect.
It doesn't matter whether or not the wifi is on, it still annoyingly pops up. I meant that you really can't disable notifications as it is a system app

I read its some type of traffic usage. Someone here posted a picture of it here. Also I have an option on the ROM I'm running to hide that notification. O don't think its carrier IQ but then again.

Gmail Using Battery Notification...

So, I've found that in order to get notifications from Gmail as they come in (I have to have this for my job), it cannot be added to data saver, and it cannot be optimized in battery settings. So, I set it up this way on my new phone, only to get a notification saying Gmail is using battery pretty much every single time an email comes through, sometimes even when none do... If I optimize it, my notifications stop until I hit the power button or unlock the phone (usually).
I cannot seem to figure out how to stop this stupid popup from happening. Anyone else getting this? Anyone know how to make it go away? It's driving me crazy...
Install this app. It's been working fine for me on my pixel 2 xl and previously worked on my 6P after installing 8.0.

Sweet, thanks! Is there a reason why the Pixel does this? My s7 edge did not. I'm assuming it is something Sammy turned off, or maybe it's Oreo.

It started with Oreo.
This was happening on my XL 2 as well, but all it took was catching one of the notifications, sliding to the right and selecting the settings icon, then turning off notifications. I have not seen one pop up since, and my Exchange emails are still coming through fine.

Notification sound with no apparent notification item

I love my new Pixel 2 XL but despite my best efforts to identify what app or system service was sending repeated (and annoying) default notification sounds but not showing any other message or indication, I finally hit on a solution that seems to work.
SET THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION SOUND TO "NONE"
settings>sound>advanced>default notification sound
Then set the notification sounds to whatever you want for each app you actually care to hear from.

I have noticed this as well.
<notification sound> no new text or email...
For me, it's just easier to ignore the errant tone once in a while than to set notifications for individual apps (cause I'm totally lazy like that).
But THAT is the beauty of Android... to each their own and there are always multiple ways to skin that cat
Use a notification log
I had this same issue. Turned out to be an app I had disabled pop ups for.
I have a (potentially) better solution. Add a notification log widget to find the culprit:
1. Long press on home screen and go to widgets.
2. Drag the settings widget to the home screen.
3. In the list of options, choose Notifications
Now you can see a log of your notifications. Next time you get the sound but no pop up, go into the log and find the offender at the top of the list.
For me it was a game I didn't need so I deleted it, but you can remedy the problem as you see fit.

Glad you found it! Sorry I just saw this. I forget where I learned about this, but it wasn't easy to find. I'm glad I could pass it on to someone else, I'm sure it could be plenty useful.
I'm having the same issue but it's not even showing in the notification log. Makes me want to throw it out the window to be honest. There's time where it will go off every 30 seconds. Off to reset I guess and see if that works.
same thing here pixel 2 oreo 8.1 notification sound...no thing new in the "hot list" or email or message
very weird, and randomly at night too which is the suck
2019 and no change
Hello, same issue still persists in 2019. Every few weeks i must dump the default sound as it sets it self up again.
Still no idea why it does it, just a temp bandaid to curb the annoyance. I notice a slightly higher battery drain too, tells me something is running

Sounds like a re-install is in order...if you have an unlocked bootloader, when was the last time you've done an update via Full Factory image? I'd imagine all that might be sorted out by reinstall/updating; with the "-w" removed of course...
I hope you consider it, and I hope this helps...

Notifications never working

To start, I've mentioned this in the ROM thread and no one ever got back to me. Twice. Not sure if it's a ROM issue or a permission I accidentally blocked when sweeping through system and app permissions.
ROM: freedom os (obv rooted)
Problem: notifications only show up on a few applications. In particular, LINE and text messages. No other apps on my entire device gives notifications at all. What I've found is that when I'm USING the apps, they'll show the notifications. Also sometimes after rebooting my device, all my notifications that have been "collecting" since last reboot will all go off (which leads to it making notification sounds and vibrating for a good five minutes).
I've tried googling this like crazy and can't seem to find the resolution. Again, I feel it's probably something I accidentally blocked when I shouldn't have, so any guidance would be appreciated!
Did you try going to settings->battery->battery optimization and setting the particular app to "don't optimize"?
Or in the same settings menu, you can completely turn off the battery optimization from the 3dot menu.

Sorry for the late response - I thought this emailed when a response came in lol. Anyway, yup I had made sure that wasn't set. As for completely turning it off, the 3 dots has "advanced optimization" which only has one switch, "Advanced optimization - restricted background activity of apps more aggressively..." which is turned off right now.
Still having this issue ( Afraid I'm gonna just have to wipe w/ another rom, but I like this rom minus this one issue so far

A few annoyances, maybe more later.......

So been loving this phone so far, one of the most fastest phones I have ever owned, and great battery life.
So a few quirks.
1 I can't access or mount data while in TWRP, so I am unable to do a backup of my phone, or install images unless I plug in an OTG. I can try and check the data box in mount, but it will not check. I tried this with no security on the phone, and with security decrypted in TWRP.
2 When I installed Magisk I also installed the "ExSDCard Access Enabler" module. When I plug in the OTG to run Titanium Backup, both mobile phones have no service. And what is with the OTG Storage Switch in settings, does that do the same thing as "ExSDCard Access Enabler" module?
3 I am using Nova Launcher, and I am not able to display things like Weatherbug or Weather Underground temperature in the notification bar like I used to with all of my other phones?
Well that is about it for now, if anyone has any thoughts?
Regarding #3, I use Nova Launcher and Weather Underground, and the temperature icon shows in the notification bar. Maybe check the notification settings? Or the power consumption settings for the app in case it's "sleeping"?
Regarding #1, there is no TWRP for this phone. There is something being worked on that boots I think but doesn't actually work. I would go back to the stock recovery unless you are trying to do work on it. The problem, however, isn't with the OnePlus 7T specifically. It's Android 10. Even the Pixel 4 doesn't have TWRP as far as I know.

Is that the persistent notification, or the one in pull down? The pull down works for me.
I turned of battery optimization, closed the app, and cleared the cache, still not working.

You can boot twrp in ram, with "Tool all in one." That is how I installed Magisk. I wanted to make a Data backup of my phone in TWRP.
I guess I never did anything on my Pixel since upgrading to 10, I was not aware. And like you said, can't access Data in TWRP on Pixel either.
#2 works fine without the ExtSD module, I guess I don't need that. But still no mobile service with the OTG plugged in.

Here's the status bar notification setting for my Weatherbug Elite, does it look like yours?
I just realized that I'm no longer getting the temperature on my status bar either. Uninstall/reinstall and still nothing on the status bar.
I reinstalled my Weather Underground and the temp is there. Must be something broke with the last WB update. Unfortunately I can't locate Support on their website.

Great! That worked, thank you. :good:
I tried a different OTG adapter, and it did not kill my cell signals. I will find out later when I run Titanium Backup if stays that way.
Anyway to make the vibration more noticeable in this phone? I miss notifications in noisy areas.
Thanks
Seems weak vibrations are a common problem across the entire oneplus line up, lots of complaints in the Oneplus forums.
