[GUIDE] Delete "Temporary files and Preview Build Updates" that are stuck - Windows 10 Mobile

EDIT: I'm going to assume this method would also allow you to cancel an update/prevent installation of an unwanted build. I have not tested this, however I can't imagine why it wouldn't work, so long as you have not started the installation.
If you're like me and cant update your device any longer because the Temporary Files are filling up your device memory, then follow this guide and hopefully you'll be downloading the latest update in no time.
Problem: Windows Update downloads a preview build but never installs it, then begins downloading the next, and the next, until eventually it has eaten up all of your phone memory. I'm not sure if this is a bug that occurs on specific builds, devices, or under odd circumstances. Regardless of how and why it happens, its EXTREMELY inconvenient and prevents you from updating your device any further. It would seem that the only solution is to Hard Reset your device, but I was not content with doing this, so I dug deep and found a solution.
Cure: Manually delete the temporary files using a PC, Windows Explorer, and a third party app called Unlocker.
LINK for Unlocker: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/unlocker.html (I'm not sure how much this really helped as I never seen any direct interaction between the program and the files being deleted, however I was unsuccessful in deleting the files previously WITHOUT it, so I assume it is necessary.) During installation, choose Advanced and uncheck the Toolbar installation if you don't want that installed.
After searching through the phone's system files, I managed to find where the temporary files are stored, and eventually i was able to delete them.
Pre-Requisites: A PC, Full FileSystem Access on your device, and Unlocker (deletes files Windows says are undeleteable).
1. After installing Unlocker, go to your Start Menu and run the Unlocker Assistant. Then start Unlocker, navigate to the following directory in the window that appears: This PC\Windows phone\Phone\Data - Click OK and the box closes.
2. Navigate to the following directory in Windows Explorer:
This PC\Windows phone\Phone\Data\PROGRAMDATA\SOFTWAREDISTRIBUTION\Download
Note: Be patient while this directory loads; there's over 1000 folders within it.
3. Highlight the folders all at once or in groups. I chose to do it in groups for performance reasons.
4. After Highlighting the folders, PRESS the DELETE button on your keyboard. I say press DELETE because right-clicking them and bringing up the context menu could cause Windows Explorer to hang for a long time. I found simply pressing the DELETE button instantly brings up the confirmation window without any performance problems.
5. After all folders have been deleted, disconnect your device and go back to your Storage app to check that the Temporary Files says 0bytes.
6. Go to Updates and click Retry. Your phone should now look for and begin downloading the latest build available to you depending on the ring you've selected.
7. Congratulations! You're Done!

nice

Can't Delete but Finally
Tried on Microsoft Lumia 540
with Interop tools (InteropToolsApp_Beta_1.6_0.0.150.0_arm)
Used interop unlock Full Fill System Access
Thanks for the post :highfive:
But,
First I failed with unlocker.
it was always saying "you can't delete this file blah blah blah
I don't know what I were doing but this worked for me
I was trying to install project my screen app.
I installed the app but the device didn't ask me to project the screen.
So,
1. I removed my device from Control panel > Devices and Printers
then I search for my device driver in Device manager but I couldn't find it.
2. I installed Project my screen app and after re-plugging the device it worked successfully
3. I uninstalled Project my screen app and also the drivers in Device manager .
4. Then I plugged in my device and checked again to delete those files and BOOM it worked !
now this is how my device shows

The easiest way to delete the pending files from "Preview Build Updates" is setting the date 50 years forward and restart the phone. No hack is required.

The Ultimate Guide to Flashing a ROM on the HD2 (Windows Mobile)

Just thought i would share a tutorial i made about flashing ROMs
If this helps anyone in any way then i will be happy, i know there is already a few Flash guides out there but i wanted to have a go at my own.
Anyways if you find it helpful please leave a comment on the tutorial or if you have anything i could add leave a comment saying what it is.
Flashing a ROM is a simple procedure but for most the task sounds daunting. For those of you who are ready to take the leap and flash a ROM onto your phone i have good news for you. In this guide i am going to show you how to flash a ROM the easy way.
NOTE: This guide is based on the European version of the HTC HD2 (Leo) flashing process, flashing for other devices may vary. You must also make sure before starting this guide that you know which version of the HD2 you have so that you can flash the right ROM and Radio if needed. The European version of the HD2 has a 512 MB ROM and the US version has a 1024 MB ROM, the European version is also a little smaller than the US version and has less RAM, the US version has 576 MBs of RAM and the European version has 448 MBs. The US version also has a different Radio version that supports T-Mobile US's Frequencys. If you are unsure about which version of the HD2 you have then go to the Settings menu on your device, go to About Phone, and then look at Hardware information and Software information.
The first thing your going to need to check before you begin is that you have HSPL on your phone. If you don’t have any idea what HSPL is, take a step back and read up on it first. (Video on how to install HSPL) (XDA thread on HSPL with download link – For HD2 only) If your not using a HD2 then search XDA forums for the correct HSPL for your device.
Now that you have HSPL or for those that already had it, your going to need two things, a phone with Windows Mobile on it and a USB cable to connect your device to your computer.
NOTE: You may also need to update your devices Radio version depending on which ROM you flash.
So go ahead and plug your device in, a new screen should now show on your device. If not its probably because its your first time connecting the phone to your computer, don’t panic! just wait a while for the drivers to install and you should be up and running in about 20 seconds.
Select the Active Sync connection from the list.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And press done.
Now your device is connected properly you are ready to choose a ROM.
The best place to get ROMs is the XDA Forum. Point your browser to http://forum.xda-developers.com/ and then continue on to the next step.
The main page of the forum gives you a list of devices running Android and Windows Mobile and their respective threads.
Windows Mobile Forums are labelled with a Windows Mobile icon and Android Forums with an Android icon. Find your device and select the “ROM Development” Sub-Forum.
Once your in the Sub-Forum for your device browse through the ROM threads until you find a ROM that best suites you. For the sake of the tutorial we are going to choose the Energy GTX ROM.
As you can see in the screenshot above there are a lot of numbers involved. The only numbers you really have to worry about is the Windows Mobile Build Number. In this case its 21911 and 23673. The difference between the two is that a 21911 ROM has Windows Mobile 6.5 on it and a 23673 ROM has Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on it. There is not a major noticeable difference between the two Builds apart from the change in UI. In 6.5.3 the start menu, lock button and exit button are located at the bottom of the screen where as in 6.5 everything is located at the top, 6.5.3 also sports full multitouch support, threaded email and texting, Office Mobile 2010, the ability to drag and drop start menu icons and decreased page load time, improved memory management and gesture smoothing in Internet Explorer Mobile 6. In my opinion 6.5.3 looks better as it has a more up to date UI and on a device like the HD2 having everything at the bottom saves you a stretch. For more information on Windows Mobile Builds hit this link.
NOTE: Not all builds for 6.5.3 and 6.5 will have the same build number. However all builds with 21 as the first two digits will be windows mobile 6.5 and all builds with 23 as the first two digits will be windows mobile 6.5.3
Now you have chosen which ROM you are going to flash, you will need to download the files for that ROM. In my case the download link is on the second post of the thread.
NOTE: Don’t forget to check if the ROM needs a specific Radio version. Link to the HD2 Radio thread. For other devices search the XDA forum for your devices radio thread.
REMEMBER: Make sure you get the right ROM for your device and the right Radio version as flashing a Radio that is not for your device could brick it.
Hit the download link and save the file to the desktop. The file may be hosted of site but don’t worry, the sites are safe i assure you.
Once you have downloaded the ROM file you will need to extract it. In my case the ROM i downloaded was in the .7z format so i used WinRAR to extract it. WinRAR also works for .rar files and .zip files.
Now you have extracted the files you should have a folder that looks like this.
Inside the folder there should be two files, one .nbh file and one .exe file. If there are any other files in the folder you need not worry about them unless they are named “READ ME” or something similar to that.
NOTE: Do not move or remove any of the files inside the folder as it will cause the flashing process to not work.
The .exe file is the ROM flashing utility and the .nbh file is the actual ROM image that will be flashed to your device. Think of the ROM file as a .zip file and the ROM flashing utility as the extractor program which will extract it to your device.
Now we will begin the ROM Flashing process. MAKE SURE TO BACK UP ALL OF YOUR DATA AS THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE AND PUT IT BACK TO FACTORY SETTINGS. if you need a program to backup your data then i recommend using PIM Backup.
REMEMBER: Make sure your device is plugged in and set to active sync connection mode.
If your using XP run the .exe file which in my case is Leo_softwareUpgrade.exe and if your using Vista or Windows 7, right click the .exe file and choose run as administrator.
The ROM flashing utility will now open, read any warnings and click next.
Again read any warnings and click next
The utility will now take a few seconds to check the information on your HD2
The next screen will open after your information is verified. Click “Update” to proceed.
The next screen will tell you which ROM version you are currently using and which version you are about to flash. Double check that the ROM you are about to flash is the correct version and hit next.
The final screen will now show, read everything on screen and make sure you are ready to continue, if you changed your mind and don’t want to flash anymore you can hit the ESC to exit the program. Hit “Flash” to begin the flashing process.
NOTE: Once the flashing process has started you cannot stop it.
Once you have clicked “Flash” the flashing process will begin and a progress bar will appear onscreen.
REMEMBER: Make sure to read the warnings.
Your device will now restart and boot into the HSPL screen, don’t worry if this looks strange to you, its perfectly normal and safe.
If your device does not show this screen straight the way its probably because the drivers for HSPL mode are installing, be patient as this can time a while. Sometimes when the drivers aren’t already installed for HSPL mode the ROM Flashing utility may give you an error and say something like “Device not connected” or “Could not connect to device”. Don’t worry if this happens, just start the process again and follow the steps until you reach this point again.
The next screen you will see will look like this. So there should now be a progress bar onscreen on your computer and on your device.
NOTE: Flashing times may vary depending on the speed of your computer.
Once the flashing process has reached 100% you should see a confirmation on your computer screen saying “Congratulations your ROM update is now Complete”. Hit the finish button and you are done.
If the ROM has flashed successfully your device should restart and boot up as normal. Notice at the bottom of your screen it should display your new ROM version.
Your device may take longer to boot than normal but this is normal after a fresh ROM flash.
Most ROMs will have their own install screen so after the first boot screen you should see a screen like this.
The best thing about custom ROMs is that most of them have many of the usual settings already set up and skip unnecessary screens like the Screen Calibration setup and Typing Test screen.
The next screen that will show will be the carrier setup screen. Select the option that suites your plan and hit “Next”
NOTE: PostPay = Contract and PrePay = Pay As You Go
The next screen will confirm your selection and download the necessary settings.
Hit “Done” at the bottom when the download is complete.
The device will now load up your home screen, in my case that is GTX Sense.
And now your done! You now have a brand new ROM installed and set up on your device.

Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP with .NET 2.0, Windows Vista, Windows 7
MUST RUN AS ADMIN TO INSTALL DRIVERS!
Changelog
v12.02.23.2
1. Fixed deadlock when app starts without ADB server already running, added start-up status window.
2. Automatically scan for devices after installing drivers.
v12.02.23
Initial Release
Summary
This tool allows you to try out different recoveries very easily. I was frustrated with the different methods for downloading and installing different recoveries and didn't like that there wasn't really a central place to find them so I wrote this tool to use ADB and Fastboot to very quickly switch between them. This tool is very far from done and more features and probably a complete overhaul are at some point in the near future.
Bugs
1. Cannot select between different devices although it appears to allow you to do so. It might flash to a different phone if you have more than one hooked up in fastboot mode.
2. Doesn't actually check to see if the phone is an Inc 2.
3. Sometimes the recoveries get unlocked even though the phone isn't in fastboot mode, if you click one of them fastboot.exe will wait on the phone forever and freeze the program.
Upcoming Improvements
1. Much improved download size.
2. Ability to try recoveries before flashing them.
3. Threaded device state monitoring - gets rid of prompts and keeps the app from freezing.
4. Ability to select between multiple devices.
5. Eventually a better GUI.
6. More consistency throughout the program.
Reserved for future use.
im gonna try this now, thanks
EDIT: not working on Win7 x64. the program wont run. It just goes not responding as soon as i start it both as admin and normal

I had the same result on Win7 x64.
Update v12.02.23.2
Changelog in first post.
Fixed.
Thanks for pointing out the bug. It was the middle of the night and I was tired, didn't think to try to start the app without ADB already running. Should be fixed now in the first post.
still not working for me same problem
OP,
Are we supposed to manually install the drivers? If so, the x64 drivers will not install, even when run as administrator.
I am also getting the same result with the new files. I even tried killing and starting adb to no avail.

Start ADB before running the program and let me know if that works. I did find the problem you were having and solved it on my end. Do you see a window that says "Starting ADB . . ." when you run the program? If not, make sure you're running the current version.

Make sure your phone is plugged in before installing the drivers. You might need to uninstall other drivers first or you might not need to install the drivers at all. Does it find your phone if you just skip the driver installation?
Still no go on two different computers both Win7 x64... If I try to install the drivers separately it says that the drivers cannot be installed.
Edit: Upon further investigation, I tried to manually install again by directing the device manager to the EXACT file and this is what I get.

You shouldn't have to install the drivers just to get the program to open. Can you describe exactly what's happening?

Yeah, I know... When I try to open your exe file it immediately says the program is not responding. I have tried to execute as administrator and run in compatibility mode.

Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
Alright, removed the download link. Guess I'll have to setup a VM to figure this out. It works for me with the included drivers OR the "My HTC" drivers and I'm not having any issues with the app freezing so it must be something about this setup.

It's the tool from this post. If I'm not getting this error, it'll be "Windows Explorer not working" error, there by crashing the tool itself. May be I try another system.

Hi,
I'm having the exact same issue. I tried it with win8pro and xpPro(both x86) and got the same behaviour at every try:
After the update starts it took some havy load on CPU and HDD transfer for a few seconds while a cab file appears in the working directory. After that the CPU/HDD load reduces to 0 and the cab file disappears again. About half a minute later the "application not responding" error pops out.
I'm pretty frustrated right now. Can anyony help?

Make sure you followed step 4. Its very important. Set the uptestex and windowsenabler properties to "windows xp compatibility" and "run as administrator". Install lg drivers and msxml parser. I think reboot would be nice.
I didnt get any errors trying this guide on windows xp home, 7, and windows 8 pro (all 32bit). Try disabling your antivirus for a while.

This tool is tested and working using XP, 7, and 8.
Use this tool if you experience errors on other KDZ Flasher
Tools:
LG Updater
Flashtool
LG Driver
Windows Enabler
MSXML Parser
(I created an archive with all the tools required for flashing)
link for tools
Steps to do before flashing:
1. Backup your data, I am not responsible if you lose your important data.
2. Makes sure your device have 50% remaining battery or more. Full charge is recommended as putting your phone into “Download Mode” doesn’t charge the device.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flashing the KDZ:
1. Unzip the files in your preffered location.
2. Install B2CAppSetUp, quit the application after the installation.
3. Install LGUnitedMobileDriver and MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser (Skip if you already installed this)
4. Open the properties of the UpTestEX.exe and Windows Enabler.exe to enable compatibility mode and admin rights (Right click> Properties> Compatibility tab> Check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP3”> also check the box that says “Run this program as an administrator.” Don’t forget to hit “OK.”
5. Double click Windows Enabler, it will go on your taskbar, left-click to enable. If it is enabled, it should look like this:
6. Open UpTestEX
7. Select “3GQCT” and “CS_EMERGENCY”
8. Locate your .KDZ file.
9. Now put your phone in “Download Mode” (To do this: Turn your phone off completely, press and hold Vol Up button together with power button, don’t release until you see “Download Mode” on-screen.
10. Connect phone to the computer and wait for the drivers to install.
11. If you’re ready, click the “Normal web upgrade test.” Note: Don’t click the “Start Upgrade” option.
12. A popup window will show, just click “Upgrade Start.” After you click it the LG Updater will open.
13. Choose “Different Country” and “(Your preffered language, mine is ENGLISH)”
14. The update will now start.
15. Your phone will reboot after some time, don’t unplug the cable yet, the upgrade is not yet done.
16. When the upgrade is finished, just close the updater. Your phone is now Upgraded/Downgraded or Unbricked!
-----------------------------------------------------
If you encounter bootloop after the process:
Turn the phone off completely, press and hold Vol Down and Power Button at the same time, don't release until you see "Factory Reset," Press Power button twice to confirm.

[Fix added] [HOW TO] [UPDATED] Install Android apps on Windows 10 Mobile

Before you start, keep in mind that this may damage your device. I wouldn’t recommend trying this, but if you really want to, you can feel free to do so at your own risk.
Here is the list of supported devices:
•Nokia Lumia 920
•Nokia Lumia 925
•Nokia Lumia 929 (icon)
•Nokia Lumia 830
•Nokia Lumia 930
•Nokia Lumia 1520
•Nokia Lumia 635 (1GB RAM variant)
•Nokia Lumia 730
•Nokia Lumia 820
•Nokia Lumia 435
•Nokia Lumia 928
A. If you have one of the above devices, you are ready to go!Method 1(older, harder, but still functional)
1. Download both files from here.
2. Unzip both of the files on the folder
3. Open the folder wconnect, then install IpOverUsbInstaller.msi and vcredist_x86.exe
4. Go to your Windows 10 Mobile’s Settings page, then head over to Update & Security > For Developers and enable Developers Mode, as well as Device Discovery
5. Now go to the extracted wconnect folder, then open an elevated command prompt (Shift+right click > Open command window here)
6. After that, you’ll need to connect to the phone — and there’s two way of doing that (USB method is recommended): ◦If you want to connect using USB, type "wconnect.exe usb" and hit enter
6.1 And if you want to connect over Wi-Fi, type wconnect.exe 192.168.xxx.xxx (replace the xxx with your network’s IP)
7. Then it’ll ask for the pairing code, just type the pairing code and hit enter
8. After that, navigate to the extracted adb folder and open an elevated command prompt
9. To make sure that your device is connected, type adb devices and hit enter to show the list of devices that are connected
10. Lastly, place the APK file that you want to install on the same directory (adb folder) and type in adb install APKNAME.apk (replace APKNAME with the APK file’s name)
11. Just wait for it to do its thing and you should be able to install the Android app on your Windows 10 device
Method 2 (new, noob-proof)
1. Download the files here and extract them anywhere
2. Install "IpOverUsbInstaller" and "vcredist_x86"
2. Run "APKDeployment.exe"
3. On your phone go to "Settings/Update & Security/For developers" and enable "Developer mode" and "Device discovery" then press "Pair"
4. Connect your phone to USB, insert the code you got earlier from your phone, into APKDeployment app, then press pair. Your phone should appear as "emulator_555x on USB"
5. Now that you're paired, you can simply drag .apk's into the application then choose to deploy all.
Method 3 (even simpler)
1. Download the package from here and install it.
2. Follow app instructions.
Method 4
Install APKtoWin10m
Download Windows Bridge
On your pc go to "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\APKTOW10M\connect" then extract the "Windows bridge" contents there. When asked, replace all files.
That's it, the tool should be fixed.
Credits go to @alb3530.
B. VERY IMPORTANT!
1. Do not disconnect the device while an apk is installing.
2. Do not reboot while your phone has Developer Mode Activated.
C. Errors you might encounter and how to fix them.
1. Status 9 - connection problem
If this happens, unregister you device using "Windows Phone Developper Registration 8.1", tool provided alongside Windows Phone 8.1 SDK, or download the lite version from here.Afterwards you will be able to access Developer settings again. Or Hard reset, your choice.
If the method above did not help, another fix is to go to device manager and uninstall these drivers [(coresponding to your device) also delete them if asked] then refresh, and let Windows reinstall them.

2. Status 14 - device not supported
Either your device is unsupported or you haven't installed "Developer Enhacements" update
To install Developer enhacements update, install Windows Insider from Store and Enroll, then check phone updates. It should show up there.
3. Developer menu crashes, wconnect app hangs
If this happens, unregister you device using "Windows Phone Developper Registration 8.1", tool provided alongside Windows Phone 8.1 SDK, or download the lite version from here.Afterwards you will be able to access Developer settings again. Or Hard reset, your choice.
4. Notification toggles flashing
Just reboot, but remember to disable Developer Mode first.

Just installed Twitter and the Destiny Companion App, they work great, though i would turn off the 3D model in the Destiny app, it made it crash. Clearly project Astoria isn't finished, but damn if it doesn't work good.
Edit: Here's what I've tried.
Facebook: Crash
Messenger: Works, No notifications outside of app, no calling
Snapchat: New versions throw an error when you try to log in, old versions say to update
Destiny Companion App: Works, guardian 3D model may cause app to crash, turn it off in settings.
Amazon App with Store: Works, laggy though. Trying to install an app crashes the app.
Twitter: Works.
Google Play Services: Had to try...for science. Either fails to install or crashes.
Firefox: Crash on launch
Steam: Works
Wikia Game Guides: Works, though crashes sometimes, and some images fail to load
Hearthstone: Crashes with "Failed to download additional files from google play"
Clash of Clans: Works so far, haven't tried IAP because...im not spending money on that game...
Puzzle and Dragons: Not sure what i was expecting here, its hooked pretty hard into Google Play services. Crashed on launch.
TeamSpeak: Crash.
Teamviewer: App works, but it fails to connect to the internet.
Reddit is Fun: App itself works, crashes when logging in with message "not implemented yet"
Waze: Can't get location, forever initializing.
I will update with more as i try them.

Zenwatch (WI500Q) firmware needed...

Hey all.
It seems like this section of the forum hasn't seen any visitors for some time, not surprising given the age of the original Zenwatch. However, I am posting this on the slim chance that someone with one of these watches might see it and help a brother out.
My Zenwatch was bricked years ago following a corrupted OTA update, and hasn't seen the light of day since. Recently though I found the watch, charged it up, and gave it another go. The stock firmware was still crashing constantly leaving the watch unusable, but I managed to install the Asteroid OS on the watch and now it works, albeit in a very limited fashion compared to the official software.
Now that I know that the watch itself is OK, and it just needs the stock firmware to be installed, I turn to you. Asus were unable to help me, as they no longer have access to the original firmware (or more likely, they're unwilling to share them with an end user), I am hoping that someone on this forum still possesses one of these watches and can create and share a backup of the OS, as it now appears that this is pretty much my last chance of getting my watch working properly again.
So, any retro watch owners left in this corner of the t'interweb?
Hi! I have this watch with stock firmware. Tell how to do the backup or send manual and I'll do it.

helloworld1337 you might be about to make a lot of people very happy!
I'm not sure how to extract the firmware from the watch, I'll have to do a little research in to that, but I don't think it's a particularly complicated procedure. Give me a little time and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thanks again!
OK, I think I understand how to do this now, but as with any image copying / rooting process, only proceed if you are happy to do so, there is always the slim chance that rooting a watch can have undesired effects, but mine rooted without any issues. So, here we go...
Files that you will need...
KingRoot - https://kingroot-pc.en.uptodown.com/windows/download
ADB & Fastboot - https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
ADB Explorer - Can be found in the Microsoft Store. It only gets a 1* rating but we only need it to look for files and delete created images once we're done with them.
Next, connect your watch to your PC via the charging dock and a suitable USB cable. Now comes the technical stuff which I hope I have understood correctly...
1) Enable developer mode on your Zen watch. You do this by going to settings/about and tapping on the version number 7 times. This should enable the developer options, one of which should be to enable USB debugging (I can't tell exactly where this option is as my watch is running Asteroid OS, but it should be in there somewhere).
2) Extract the ADB tools to a known folder. Open a command prompt in that folder. Type the command "Fastboot oem unlock". This should unlock the bootloader on your watch.
3) Install and run KingRoot, this will root your watch granting you access to all the files on it. Again, this step is done at your own risk, I did it with mine and it worked perfectly, but it would be remiss of me to not give a warning at least. It takes a little while to complete so be patient.
4) Open ADB Explorer and hopefully your watch will be listed in the left-hand panel in the devices list. If it is, click on it and then click the browse button, this should display all of the accessible directories. In my case I see "Internal storage" and "Root", open "Root".
5) At this point we are looking for a folder that contains all of the partitions listed by name. On my watch it is in /dev/disk/by-partlabel, but again, I'm running Asteroid OS. Another possibility is /dev/block/platform/dw_mmc/by-name, but have a browse around the dev folder and subfolders, somewhere in there should be folder with lots of files, some named "boot" "recovery" and "system". Make a note of the path to these files.
6) In the command prompt type "ADB shell", the cursor should change to a # symbol (the first time you do this, type "mkdir images", this will create an images folder on your watch that'll just make things a little easier to navigate in the next steps, you only have to run this command once).
7) Type "dd if=/dev/disk/by-partlabel/boot of=/images/boot.img" but change the "/dev/disk/by-partlabel/boot" to match the path that you found on your watch earlier. If successful this will create a "boot.img" file in the /images/ directory. This can take a while depending on the size of the partition, just give it some time and it will eventually go back to the # prompt (boot and recovery are about 16mb, system is about 500mb so takes longer).
8) Type "Exit" which should return you to a normal command prompt. Now type "ADB pull /images/boot.img", this will copy the boot.img file to your PC (into the same folder as the ADB command file).
9) Use the ADB Explorer program to go to the /images/ folder on your watch and delete the boot.img file, it'll just free up space for more images.
10) Repeat steps 6-9 for the "recovery" and "system" partitions, naming the created image files recovery.img and system.img respectively. Don't forget to delete them off your watch after you have copied them to your PC as the system one takes up quite a bit of space.
11) Take the three image files (boot.img, recovery.img and system.img) and upload them to a sharing site of your choice, then let me know the links to them.
I have tested the above steps with my Zenwatch and have successfully extracted and then re-flashed the images. With luck, and the images you produce, this will allow me to re-flash my watch back to factory standard, then I'll see if there's somewhere where I can host them permanently for anyone else that may need them, as I suspect that I am not the only one looking for them.
Fingers crossed!
Hi!
I got problems with ROOTing.
Tried Kingroot, kingoroot - failed at exploiting. Also looked for TWRP, but all links dead.
ED: Failed means that process went to the end without results.
Yeah I've not been able to find TWRP anywhere either. It's gone midnight now and I'm turning in but I'll see what I can find tomorrow. Bear with me, we're almost there.
Just to check, have you done these steps?
On your watch, head to Menu->Settings->About and tap on Build number for 7-8 times until it says you are a developer. When it does, the developer menu should be unlocked on your watch.
Head to Menu->Settings->Developer options and enable ADB debugging. Without this, your computer will not be able to communicate with your watch.
Yeah sure. I also went to the fastboot mode by swiping from right top corner to left bottom at boot, or sth like that and enabled bootloader by oem unlock. Kingroot has problem with rooting because device is unsupported. It tries many root strategies but all of them are unsuccessfull. It's Marshmallow 6.0.1 - m1d65s build.
We could try Kingo Root, an ironically close name to the other app, but beggars can't be choosers at the moment.
Kingo Root, the king root android app for free.
Kingo Root is #1 one click root solution so easy to use. Take your android phone by your control! You will love this feeling - the freedom.

I tried it on my watch and phone but they're already rooted so the process didn't succeed (obviously), but it could be worth a try.
As I mentioned before I tried both with no success.
Listen, I don't really care about this watch, its laying on my shelf and getting dust.
PM me address and I'll try to ship it to You somehow.
Obvously it's weared and has burnt pixels but stilll working and may be the donor - maybe somehow You'll manage to download the software and share with others.

Hi BR.
Yup, I eventually managed to work out a somewhat unconventional way to access the storage on the watch, something which I would not have been able to do without your generous donation. I also apologise for not letting you know that it arrived safely, that was an oversight on my part I think caused in part by the dejection that set in from repeatedly failing to root the damn thing .
However, between us we have succeeded in creating the firmware files, and are now able to offer them up to anyone that needs them. I'd call that a job well done .
