Hi guys, bit of a strange problem here - using any emulator (any of robert brogalias, as well as supergnes or animaonline), I'm getting sound and framerate stuttering at consistent intervals. It seems like something is hitting the cpu when this happens, but I don't know what might be doing it - I have "betterbatterystats" and it shows that "audioOut_2" is causing 12.8 percent of partial wakelocks, don't know if this could be related.
Power saving features are all off, to my knowledge.
I've only installed very few apps, like PowerAmp, CPU Spy, titanium backup and a couple others. Rebooting the phone makes no difference, removing the SD card after copying roms to the internal memory made no difference, stopping the media scan service did nothing, I even flashed roms to Clean Rom 3.5 and it didn't change. I wiped dalvik and the other cache beforehand.
Any ideas? My tegra 2 tablet can run these emulators flawlessly at 60 fps all day!

You didn't make any under clock profiles did you? And is there a setting to change emulator settings back to default? Perhaps you changed something that made it go whack.

no problem here with fpse
i love to play Crash Bandicoot

Haven't changed any clocks, nope. Emulator settings are default - changing frameskip to 0 makes the sound lag even worse, and allowing frameskip creates big jumps every 3/4 of a second or so. Happens regardless of the emulator used.
Forcing CPU to 1600mhz constant also has no effect.
Governor default or performance? Can't think of much else besides power saving mode but it should run fine on that too.
Sent from my GT-N7100
Doesn't seem to matter on performance or default. I'm still running the stock kernel, think I should overclock? I really shouldn't need to though when a stock tegra 2 can handle it with 0 frameskip, sound quality on max... even NES is stuttering.
I did a complete restore, no change.

No need to over clock. The emulators have run fine on my older hardware under clocked just fine. The only thing it could be is a setting jacked up inside the emulator. Nintendo and super Nintendo run easily on ARM chip sets. Fpse and n64 would give it a run for it's money though. You sure you don't have something in the background hogging up horsepower?
Sent from my GT-N7100
No problem with epsxe here smooth as butter stock 4.1.2. It's most likely the rom you're using.
Stock or Clean Rom has the same issue.
epsxe is a different story, I can run that just fine. My benchmarks are pretty standard for quadrant, I'm really out of ideas - maybe the refresh rate of the phone is slightly higher or lower than the emulator is trying to run at, causing either frame skipping or sound jumps? Any other users with an eye for framerate here noticed minor frame jumping in, say, sonic 1, 2, or 3 on MD.emu? I bet it's there, but then if you turn frameskip to 0 (like I would on my tf101) the sound goes to hell instead.
I'm using Snes9x EX and AndroGens (as well as Fpse) and don't have any of the problems you describe. Maybe you should give those a shot, and if you get the problem with those too, you might have a hardware issue?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
Snes9x EX gives me the issue as well. Play mario world and run as fast as you can on level ground left and right a few times, see if the image has some slight jumps in it. Lots of people wouldn't even notice this.
Otherwise, turn frameskipping to 0. Does the sound start having issues? If it does, you have the same problem as me.
Reading around, I've found that the Note 2 apparently runs at a 58 hz refresh rate, where most everything else (including the emus) expect 60, causing the video or audio to have issues (you can have one or the other, but not both). I'm running the stock kernel, if you're running perseus it might be ok... which kernel are you running?

Oh, youre right, it does this for me too. It's really barely noticeable though, I hadn't noticed before now. I'm also on the stock kernel.
What did you mean by sound issues? Turning frameskip off maybe makes the sound a tiny biy faster at some points than it should be, but that too is barely noticeable and could just be my imagination.
But you're right, theres definitely an issue there, and I do wonder if you're right about the refresh rate.
Sent from my GT-N7105
Yeah I tried the perseus kernel, no change, sadly.
For sound issues, I get skips and stutters every couple of seconds in MD.emu, NES.emu, snes9x ex, SuperGNES, Animaonline SNES, and presumably all the others which require a tight synchronization of audio and video. Doesn't seem to be overly noticeable on epsxe, but then I haven't played any games which run at a tight 60 FPS on that one, either. Official games have no problems.
Running 1800 mhz makes no difference, either.
I've emailed Robert Broglia about the issue, I'll update if he replies - anyone else, let me know if you find a fix!
Received a reply from Robert (damn that guy is a machine), pasta'd below

Hi, thanks for the heads up on the Galaxy Note 2, not sure why all these manufacturers are using screens with such odd refresh rates. For example, the Kindle Fire is 53Hz and the Xperia Play is 62Hz. Luckily the Nexus 7 I just picked up has a perfect 60Hz refresh rate so 0 frameskip works well on it.
In the next update I'm switching over to a more precise method for getting the device's clock so I wonder if it might help space the frames out a bit more evenly on your device. The best solution will probably be to use frameskip 0 but adjust the input audio frequency to speed-up/slow-down the audio to match the refresh rate, so I'll look into adding this for a future update.

That's very interesting that our quad-core 1,6Ghz with 2 GB ram struggles to emulate the SNES
CPU: Custom 65C816 at 3.58 MHz
RAM: 128 Kb
Max Colors on Screen: 256
Max Sprites: 128, 32 per scanline
Sound Channels: 8 ADPCM
Sound Memory: 64 Kb

It's actually not hardware power that we're lacking - we could probably emulate snes at fullspeed with 400 mhz on a single core if the emu was very well coded, and obviously we have tons more power than that. It's a function of how the emulator draws the screen and plays the sound - almost every device runs at 60hz, so every application expects the maximum speed to be 60 FPS, but the note 2 is actually 58 hz. This creates a (much larger than you'd expect) jump in the fluidity of the emulator when running with frameskip set to auto, and it creates an annoying audio jump/skip if frameskip is turned off.
In this situation, you can have perfect video or audio, but not both. One workaround is to slow down the audio to match the 58 frames instead of the 60.
If you use supergnes, you may as well email him because it happens in that emu too. Snex9x EX is way better than supergnes, though.
I can confirm the same thing is happening for my Galaxy Note II, although mine is the US Sprint CDMA/LTE variant. It also has a refresh rate of 58.002 Mhz and I use nearly all of Robert Broglia's emulators. On this device, it's either sound regularly skips with frameskip set to 0, or (nearly) perfect audio with stuttering video when frameskip is set to Auto.
This device is a beast, so this shouldn't be happening at all. :-/
I noticed that some games like Asphalt 8 do not use native resolution, but are in low res although video setting are set to highest.
I'm on a stock lollipop, not yet rooted and Knox 0.
Is it a common issue? How to enable native resolution?
Same here on Tab S 10.5

same here since lollipop update, any solution? cheers.
galaxy tab s 10.5, sm-t805
I have also experienced this behavior in Asphalt 8 since I have updated to Lollipop in the beginning of December 2015. I am on IronROM 2.5 which is TW-based Lollipop 5.0.2 ROM.
Interestingly, in some rare cases I was able to play the game in high quality. I have noticed that at least in one case the battery was full when I started playing game. But most of the time the game has been in terrible quality and sometimes even in this low quality it is lagging. Having the battery full is not a guarantee that it can be played in high quality.
I have found out that when I use Link2SD, and I enable to use Android standard "fuse" filesystem for internal storage, instead of Samsung's standard "sdcardfs" filesystem, the lags are getting worse. So by restoring the Samsung's sdcardfs filesystem the lags are not so bad.
But I was unable to force the game to go into the high-quality mode. I have even used integrated tool Hulk-Kernel STweaks to set CPU governor to "pegasusq" or "ondemand", and also set min and max CPU frequency to 1900 MHz and GPU min and max frequency to 733 MHz, but it had no impact on gaming performance in terms of graphic quality. Before starting the game I have also used task manager to free up memory (so I had some 1,8 GB of 2,71 GB used which means still some 900 MB free).
I guess it has something to do with Lollipop but I am unable to find out what is the problem.
Seems the last game update (2.3.0i) did the trick. Asphalt running on high res again. Brgds.

Why I did this thread?
Because i own one of these device, and i'll try to collect all the information about it!
What i have done?
I rooted the device with KingRoot and before to restart and to erase my root functions I injected the BusyBox into it with the idea - I can replace all of the symbolic links and then to install SU + to unlock the bootloader - because I didn't see any other opportunity. Sadly the phone before that has restarted and I lost the root - forever. My screen - because the BusyBox injection changed my screen in high resolution and it's appear err from the Application launcher (perhaps the incompatible resolution). I installed the Es-Browser along KingoRoot PC and then Nova launcher - works.
Don't make any mistake with Alcatel Pixi 4_6-3G or another model, the similarity is in the processor, GPU, or RAM, but not in the file structure, partition architecture. Here is not any custom recovery which you can use.
Let's collect all the date, everybody who have this device and/or working about the: Rooting, Custom Rom, Custom recovery!

I got the same phone and same issue. Root on first try, phone resets when I try to do something, and root is gone. I can keep re-rooting it but when it resets, root is gone. You seem to be more knowledgeable than me so are you saying there's no way to get a custom recovery on this phone and no way to get Xposed Installer?
@klampth Figure anything out?
No way till now!
You can install Xposed but the effect will be the same like to me, with BusyBox injection - crashing of the launcher, you'll get smallest icons, because the high resolution.... from the implanted BusyBox or Xposed modules, which not will work anymore after the FPO reset but they will change the rules of your phone and..... crashed everything!
Sadly for now, here's no way, because I tried to find out a firmware for this device and I didn't. If we have an original firmware, we can experiment under a virtual machine. It's not a good idea to damage the phone (How I did it).
I was having that problem but i now have the phone fully rooted with super su
So i rooted my phone with king root and it rooted my phone on the 3rd try but i as well would lose root once it would reboot. So i downloaded on to my phone before i rooted it again its an app called super sume it takes king root off and replaces it with super su first time and everything. Hope it works for you so i put the download in a gmail account i emailed it to [email protected] password is supersume9 hope thats cool i only made it for the app link
Hi, just bought a Redmi Note 5 with MIUI 9.5.6.0 just two days ago. When i run Pokemongo and Pokemongo (dual apps) in split screen, only one of the Pokemongo is running while the other is not. Only when i tap the other session thats the only time the app would run.
I tried running pokemongo and youtube in split screen. And has the same result, only one is running. I have friends using Redmi 5 Plus with MIUI 9.5.9.0 that can run pokemongo and pokemongo (dual apps) concurrently in split screen.
Please advise what should i do the make my split screen to run concurrently in MIUI 9.5.6.0.
Thanks in Advance.

Exactly same issue as yours. Same MIUI version. Only when the pokemon go at the bottom will work. The top one freezes. Any clue?

i have seen redmi note 4x (snapdragon 625) and redmi 5 plus that are running 2 pokemongo concurrently.
since redmi note 5 has the snapdragon 636 and miui 9 installed. then this split screen feature should work. but for some reason it doesn't. i even try running pokemongo and youtube in split screen and the result is the same.
I face the same issue too. The top screen will freeze when the second screen is loaded. Like what others suggested, go to the "home" page, and tap on the shortcut to the (top screen) app again. It will unfreeze in a few seconds.
I own a Note 5 Plus and Note 5 Pro, and noticed that Note 5 Plus doesn't have this problem.

Hello, does that mean split mode with the two applications running at the same time do not work with the Xiaomi note 5 pro ?
Did Anyone find a solution or it is definitaly not compatible ?
there are another phone or rom that can use 2 instance for pokemon at the same time without pausing each other?
Update MIUI to 9.5.13 and you are good
I'm using the Xiaomi Mi 8 (256gb storage + 6gb RAM) and I can run 2 Pokémon go accounts simultaneously without any issues. I can even jump into a raid with both accounts, have it on split screen and battle using both my accounts at the exact same time. I love this phone even more just for this reason
Go to Developer options and turn on "MIUI Optimization". Both the instances of Pokemon Go should be working concurrently now.
I had it working both simultaneously but I upgraded to Android pie and I can't use dual apps anymore. Is anyone having trouble doing this with pie or is it just me.
Hi, I'm having an issue with my redmi 8 dual app. The apps don't fit split screens when I try toggling between apps

or at list a automatics app that record 6min several time ?
plz help me thx
help me plz
While I do not have a source for this information handy I can remember that a review was pointing out that the lenght/time for 8k recording is limited due to available RAM or rather due to UFS 3.1 limited write rate.
But we can calculate things by our own:
If I'm correct UFS 3.1 is able to write like 1 GBps (on paper).
In reality an avarage 8k video recording with this phone is consuming ~1GByte per minute (what is ~16Gbps). A huge difference when it comes to writing on UFS 3.1 storage.
So we have the RAM only. RAM is full in like 8 minutes for 8 GB (in theory). Practically we have like 6GB as RAM buffer available (2GB for system). So you've got your 6 minutes in total. There is no "hack" available. oO
I hope I did not miss a thing within my simple calculations. ;D
I also think that there was a limitation also on 4k video recording which was about 4GB of video.
So what can i do to record more than 10 min in 4k gcam can do that ?
You can't do anything as this is an Android limitation in the system itself. If you need to record longer use 1080p mode.
1080p has no detail .. is there any thing else i can use ?
maybe a 3rd party app that can handle it

It's a hardware limitation, no app will do it. The phone's storage can't write as fast as the 8K camera spits out the video so it gets temporarily stored in RAM until you reach the limit, then, when the camera stops recording, it gets transferred to storage.
Unless you find a way to "add more RAM" or make your phone's storage "as fast as RAM" which you can't, then you are stuck with either 6min of 8K (which the phone doesn't do 8K really, it's supersampled 6K) or buying a purpose-built actual 8K camera.
With zram i can use more ram from the ufs 3.1
You know that zRAM is not "real" RAM? It's UFS and its slower then RAM. Beside that UFS 3.1 has a small amount of Cache (SLC) to reach those write speeds mentioned. So that is basically a burst speed for a short period of time to reach the 1GBps. Nonetheless its much slower then "real" RAM.

Just compare their Bandwidth (theoretical values). 1450 MB/s vs. 6400 MT/s.
While I'm not a hardware guru esp. when it comes to phone hardware. I'm pretty sure that there are other limitations as well beside the capabilities of the memory.
I bet there are other issues too. E. g. heat management (-> cpu throttling) or the battery also (not only the heat but drain, long time durability also).
thx for your answer bro
so there is no way to get more
i wish this phone has a sound to end of video so i know when its over and start next Trak automatically

You could use the clock functionality and set the timer to like 5:30 just before you start filming. On the other hand there is a timer running on the left side of the camera. ^^
