How much Internal Storage is available for apps? - Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe Questions & Answers

I'd like to know exactly how much storage is available for the installation of apps.

I'm in the middle of restoring mine and Already Installed 90 apps and have 44.37 GB available

System has around 30gb locked up for it. My internal storage has around 220gb....

My system is 12.61 gb. Nowhere near 30

28.67GB for 256gb model. I think if you have a lower storage model the system reserve is lower.

Why is there only 28gb available for apps when there's 256gb of storage? Shouldn't it mostly all be available? I know Oppo's color OS had this issue, but they did an update where you could merge partitions. Why is ASUS not letting apps use more of the storage? Is this common with ASUS?
I have a Moto G4 with 32GB. 6GB of that is used for the Android OS leaving 26GB remaining. According to the stats I have 20GB available to apps and whatever else I want.

Sorry my bad, 28.67GB is system reserved (Android OS). 227GB is available for apps. After non removable presinstalled Google and Asus apps I believe it's about 220gb free for your own apps.

How much storage will be available on the 16gb??

As many of you, I'm considering the 16gb model. I have like 2gb of music and another few for apps. My question is, after the OS how much space can we expect to have.
On my Nexus 5, 12.55 GB formatted/installed with no apps installed, which isn't really a possible scenario. FWIW, I have 3.52GB of apps installed, a few megs of images and other, and 517MB of cached data and have 6.4GB left.
Before installing the Marshmallow official version, I was routinely running into storage problems just with downloaded/cached music after a few months of use.
Yeah I was kinda thinking that around 12gb would be free. I have a galaxy s6 now and there is like 9 gb of "other" storage which is prolly all the Verizon crap in addition to the OS.
Something to consider.
I'm on the marshmallow Preview on my Nexus 6 and I've noticed the OS seems to cache higher amounts of data. I'm constantly seeing 1gb cache in my storage and clearing it. Not sure of this is a marshmallow thing or just some weird quirk with the preview build

How much space is the preview build?
I preorderd a 16 and 32 and will return one obvi but want to be safe and not regret not getting enough space down the road.
I went 32 just to safe than sorry. Currently my usage on the Nexus 5 I would have 6GB of free space on a 16 model. I got the 32GB in case I decided put my music and a couple of videos on my phone for vacation trips I will be taking this year.

I saw an unboxing video from a tech blog in India and it showed around 10.6GB available on the 16GB model.

That's been my thinking as well. 32GB is really the minimum if you want to have some media files on hand for those (admittedly rare) moments when there's no internet connection.
I don't need my entire music collection or video collection, just a few albums and a couple HD episodes or a movie as backup. Oh and a few games, most of which are getting into the 2GB+ sizes (Hearthstone, etc.)
Also if someone intends to record 4k videos it would be advised not to go with the 16GB version.
Hopefully this won't be a problem at all. I imagine we will get "lite" roms and such. Something tells me it will be manageable.

As its a pure android phone the software won't take a large space.I think 12.5 GB will be available for users.I don't think 16 GB model is right choice but if you doesn't download many apps and games then its a good option.

Are they sure nothing was installed? For example Google story can take 3-4 GB if you download the stories.

Pay me no mind I got the 32GB. Honestly if I just stick with my most use apps I would only need 8GB on the phone. I got the 32GB only because I am taking a lengthy vacation. Might want to carry a few movies and also might take a lot of photos and videos while out and about.

Ditto. 32GB ordered and I still have Sprint grandfathered original unlimited data so I stream all my music and video. Can't go wrong with double the space for $50.

Note: if a Google Play Music user, be sure to disable "Cache during playback" and you'll save yourself some space.

What is the stock, available storage according to the Settings menu?

Hello, I was hoping current owners of the Pixel C could tell us potential buyers what the actual available storage is with this tablet if you go to storage, in the settings menu. I'm personally interested in the 32 GB model, but it doesn't hurt to get info on both sizes. Thanks so much!

My 64GB model reports 52.88 of user available storage. As for your poll, I'll add my own answer: "No, that's what my 128GB Nexus 6P is for (of which 75GB is filled with music)."

Same here.
Thanks for the replies, guys. Anyone with a 32GB wanna chime in?
Also, does anyone know why it issues SOO much storage? That's more than I was expecting, to be honest. It's a skin-free OS, after all. And there's no cell connectivity.
The usual reasons apply. 64gb is not the full 64gb as all figures are rounded down to zeroes. The zip/tgz file is compressed and expands when unpacked and all the boot and system files are put into place. This all needs a swap file capacity to work within and that to update system apps. My 64gb N6P has a similar available storage on initial boot.

I never thought much about reserved, needed empty space for those types of operations. But I think of my 2012 N7. 32GB, and 28GB are available. That was one of the perks of a Nexus compared to, say, a Samsung. I just feel like that isn't the case anymore.

What is the usable space on the 32GB variant?

Hello, I've been thinking about getting the Honor 7x for my next phone and was wondering how much of the space is free for the user in the 4GB RAM/32GB variant selling in India for Rs.12999? I can't get the 64GB version since it's a tad bit expensive, so is the available space on the 32GB sufficient for a person who just sticks to a limited set of apps during their daily usage (just messaging, social media, youtube, maps, etc., I don't store music on my phone nor play heavy games and use Google Photos for photos). Thanks

You'd probably be fine with the 32GB version. Just get an SD card if you want to store more on the phone.

That's still great
The storage is never proportional and the size usable on 32GB is almost 20 gb i think stock, but with an extra 32gb or more class 10+ or better UHS sd card will be good for the phone since it easily handles the speed..
17 free
Got the phone yesterday. 32 gig, 17.2 free. Red army must be hiding a lot of back doors in there somewhere ?

From memory, i bought the 64Gb french version and the free space was around 49Gb. You can free some space by uninstalling some crap installed ap and you have around 50Gb.
It's quite confortable.

64gb or 128gb version?

Hi, I'm going to buy this device but the are two versions: 64gb and 128gb.
What should I have to buy for flashing custom roms, kernels in the forum? What are the differences?

No one, it's the same. The only difference is the storage, choose what you up too, I use a lot of streaming and cloud services so I'm ok with 64gb. You need to take notes based on that.

It's only 20 bugs difference for double the storage + you can't expand it with micro SD. To be on the safe side, I would buy the 128 GB version. Storage is nice & if you don't have enough, it's a pain in the ass!

System taking up huge amount of space

Greetings,
my system takes up about 44GB in internal storage.
Even after a factory reset, it has been like this since I got the device
No matter if I'm using android 9 or android 10 beta
Do you guys experience the same?

I get that the system uses a lot of storage, but nowhere near this.
If you download a firmware file it is about 4 to 5 GB.
There is no way this gets extracted to 44GB
In my opinion Samsung is cutting space to market their cloud service and or bigger devices

I know what you mean, but even with this in mind, there is no way that 44GB are just lost!
It should be less
Somewhere around 470GB
So, after partitioning the phone, there should be 476,8GB left
512 GB / (1024*1024*1024)

If that was the case then why offer 512 or an SDcard. I mean of course they want to sell more devices but thinking they are trying to use this to push cloud services seems a little far fetched.
If you haven't already decided to move to the cloud, I dont see how 44gb out of 512 will push you there. That is without even considering the SDcard.
It's the same on mine, i wouldn't mind even if I see people with half space taken from system: we probably have some dex or knox related stuffs active that they don't. I have the exynos 512 10+
