what's the best auto backup setup? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

ive got the app, foldersync setup with one-way sync, all my folders that contain pics and vids, to my local wifi ftp server, (contacts and calendar, etc, and small data stuff are synced to dropbox every 6hrs and when wifi available).
i normally have large files sync only every Sunday morning, but with the note 7 being a little explosive, I've got it running every evening (not all through the night).
anyone else have an easier setup to avoid data loss?

Gmail won't work in IE

Hi Everyone,
I tried login Gmail on Tilt 2 in an AT&T store, but Gmail weblink wouldn't open. However, Google shows I'm already login, just Gmail wouldn't show up on the IE browser. Could someone try it and let me know?
Thank you,
Tom.
To get gmail to work I had to use the HTML version of GMail. Why don't you just sync your gmail account with your phone?
Using iPhone for a year and half I see a big advantage of moving away from activesync... Not only Activesync, but also MS Outlook is not as dependable as I'd like it to be. For business use, I use Gmail and Toodledo to navigate around daily tasks, therefore 3G speed and a big screen with keyboard is real important to me ^_^
That's interesting. I have used Windows Mobile Active sync for my business email over the last 2 years and 2 companies. I have never had an issue with it. I can not speak for IPhone because I am not a fan in the first place. If you are uncomfortable using active sync I would recommend two solutions.
1. use the html version of gmail.
2. use skyfire browser. As I understand it your data is passed through a intermediate server in this solution so I personally avoid viewing critical websites on it like banks. Someone can correct me if I am wrong here.

In what way are they not reliable...or are you just throwing around FUD?
What is FUD? I could probably elaborate a little more on the unreliable MS sync process. I've been using PDA since the first generation, and I'm grateful of the bluetooth sync. However, as I realized, sometimes, it just wouldn't sync due to bluetooth problem. So the bluetooth is the first problem, it could the interference from the headset, GPS, but it only 85% to 90% of the time for me only. Second, configuring the port on Activesync is just as not as simple especially when I was using a separate GPS unit. Sometimes even when I plug in the sync cable, it wouldn't sync. This happened to both my HP6315 and Palm Treo 750. Third, once a year, or once every other year, my laptop would crash due to many reasons, and take my outlook data with it (contacts, tasks, e-mails). Whatever I didn't sync or backup (few minutes or few days), data is lost. Just to keep up with the constant syncing bothers me... By the way, I don't have exchange...
Which all is resolved when I switch to Gmail... and use Outlook for backup purpose only. I store my contact info with Gmail, never have to worry about data lost. It also automatically sync with my iPhone every time I use use Contact. In a few situations when Gmail is down, I still have all of my info on the iPhone. It is the convenience that I like. And, I'd like to retain it when I'm switching to the Tilt 2...
Thank you,
Tom.
I had the same trouble with the stock AT&T ROM installed. I had to disable the proxy in order for Gmail to open via Opera or IE.
If I recall correctly, you can access it by going to settings > connections and then tapping "disable proxy". I don't have the stock ROM installed anymore so I can't be sure, but poke around the settings to find it.
The only downside is that you won't be able to access the AT&T specific things like media net or AT&T wifi hotspots, but you can just re-enable the proxy if you need to.
Edit: I forgot to mention - for backing up your contacts and such, check out Microsoft's My Phone service.

Oh so you're talking about actual ActiveSync, not Exchange Server ActiveSync which is really what you should be using for business e-mail, but I guess $12/mo for hosted Exchange is just way too much for your business.
Mmmm... why would I want to pay $12/mo when Gmail supports it for free? And it does all the things that I need... I'm sorry I have no experience with Exchange, and our company doesn't have IT to support it. The main thing I like about web Gmail is I could access two years worth of e-mail any time any where as long as I have 3G connection. The setup is easy, and no attachment is saved on the MicroSD, so I don't have to worry about running out of disk space. Of course, this is the iPhone version. I'm just going by the Occam's Razor, simpler the better

Syncing help!

Hi i just purchase a desire a few days ago. I love this phone. It is a refresh from the windows mobile phones i used to have but, using it for a while i have a couple of questions.
First of all, i sync my facebook and gmail accounts and my flickr accounts. At the beginning i det auto sync to off because my nrw carrier and their unlimited data plan doesnt come into effect till july 1st. I would manually sync fb and email. However, after a night and in the morning i can no longer sync. Pressing the buttons doesnt do anything. I even turn on auto sync amd let it sync for everything. Still doesnt work. I have tried removing the widjets and accounts but it still doesnt eork.
I ended up doing a hard and everything works. However, once i turn off auto sync the next day it wouldnt work again. The only theory i have that i have only 10 megs left from installing apps and games. I have the low space indicator. Is this the reason i cant get my gmail or fb updates through friendstream?
Thanks for reading
have you tried to free up some more space or a possible cache clear to see if it sycns when you do it manually? My phone behaves strange when the space is very low

[Q] Exchange Calendar Sync Issue - Resolved

Stock EVO, 2.2...
I just noticed this issue about three days ago...my Exchange calendar is constantly syncing, and I do mean constantly.
If you go to Settings - Accounts & Syc - Exchange ActiveSync, you can see the last sync for each item. My calendar constantly reads the same time as system time, and the Sync icon in my notification area is constantly flashing on and off.
I have noticed that my battery is draining VERY fast. I had to put it on a charger twice yesterday (I got the 15% battery warning) with normal use, when I can typically go a full day of use without any issue.
I can deselect Calendar syncing, but of course that's only a temporary fix.
Has anyone else run into this? Anyone heard of a solution? A google search did not yield any results.
FIXED!!!
Well I fixed my own problem...though I cannot determine the cause of the issue (I even tried uninstalling some apps I had DL over the past few days), the fix was simple, though it took a while to figure out.
I tried to merely remove/re-add my Exchange sync, but I kept getting 'client/server conversion errors', and my calendar would refuse to sync (though email and contacts did). Furthermore, in Outlook, I would get lots of duplicate entries (interestingly, they were recurring events and all-day events).
This was the solution:
1. Delete Exchange account from EVO (contacts, calendar, email)
2. Since I noticed that my calendar app still had some entries in it, even after deleting the Exchange account, it was evident that there was some data still on my phone that was possibly causing the syncing error. So, I went to Settings - Applications - Manage Applications, and selected the All tab. Scroll down to the 'Calendar' app entries, and you have to clear/delete any cache/storage data in each.
3. Re-synced with Exchange successfully.
I searched around different forums, and it seems many have had a similar issue and have waited in vain for Sprint or HTC to publish a solution.
This one worked for me. Hope it helps others.
yes!!!! Thank you so much. After trying everything and almost a week of my battery going dead with a couple of hours on my EVO your solution worked! I would recommend that anyone try this solution before going any further!

[Q] Titanium Media Sync. Thoughts?

Title says it all. I was wondering if anyone has used the new Titanium app. Media Sync and what you liked or didn't like? Is it worth it? How is the battery drain using it?
Surprised that no has responded to this..
mmm... will have to try it myself
I'm using it but on milestone.
Seems good, works well for continuous remote backup of specific folder I,e, photos.
Apparently cannot set folders to continually synce down from the cloud though which is annoying as I wanted to leave it downloading videos from my desktop as they are converted while I sleep saving me from manual transfer time in the morning.
Bummer.
Works well
I'm using it on CM7 modded HTC Desire.
Works well.
Not a battery drainer because you can set it to sync only when you are powered, (or not if you prefer).
Syncs to FTP and Dropbox. I tested both and it works.
'Set it and forget it' (and if you want you can even turn the notifications off.
Worth the $.
Regards,
Jan
Great app but does anybody know if it is somehow possible to limit the upload bandwith?
Thx!
I just tried out Titanium Media Sync (on HTC Desire) and was annoyed to learn that you only have limited options for the sync (currently "continuous" and "single one way"). I needed the app to upload (and unload) photos and videos from the device to a network location, ultimately to free up space on the device. However, with the continous sync, any files deleted on the device will result in deletion on the network as well; which does not provide much of a backup.
I ended up with Syncness, which is exactly what I needed. You can even configure it to sync only with specific networks, at specific hours of the day, only at A/C power, etc. (the latter is in all fairness also supported by Titanium). I can even save original file dates/info to the remote location.
Titanium has a nicer user interface but that's not worth much when the program doesn't do what I need it to do.

Syncness and Titanium Media Sync are not the same!
Syncness supports Dropbox & Windows Share (Samba) networks and works ONLY while connected to WiFi, while Titanium works on both 3G & WiFi and supports Dropbox, FTP, SFTP, FTPS servers.
It's really a shame that Titanium doesn't suport two-way sync.
I would really like to see a whole package sync
I just got titanium media sync but i have trouble adding my adrive account to it. CAN ANYONE HELP ME HOW TO DO IT???
Thank you!
I am trying to decide between Syncness and Ti media sync right now. Basically want this to automatically sync my external and internal SD cards to my PCas a backup in case I lose my phone.
I like that ti media sync can do this without being on the same network since I do have an ftp share. How reliable is it? Seems none of these sync apps are considered very reliable. Does it have to run all the time or can you set it to only sync at a set time?

Thanks. Are you running your FTP server on a PC? I set my Windows 7 PC up as a FTP server. When I drag a folder from local to remote, it says failed to create folder. Any idea what the problem might be?
Pete
I've been using Titanium Media Sync (TMS) for some time syncing one way continuous via FTP to my Windows 7 PC. I've encountered a real nuisance which I hope is solvable. Basically the phone and PC are always on the same LAN, but the LAN may change from time to time when traveling. I've found no easy way of modifying the account with new IP address of PC. The PC does have a name on the LAN. I'm wondering how to specify the name (within TMS) instead of the IP address. That way the phone would always find my PC. At the moment, I must delete all the sync'd folders and the account and start over with a new account and set of folders. This also requires deleting all the previously backed up data from PC. There must be a better way! Suggestions appreciated.

Looking for a two-way WiFi sync (Android/Mac) for the gallery

The USB connection on my Mac works fine with the little tool, but I would rather have some kind of wireless magic.
This is what I wish for: I'm coming home, my Nexus says "hello" to my WLAN and checks every X minutes if my Mac is active. If yes, start the two-way sync for the whole gallery – that means camera photos, screenshots, WhatsApp images and so on are transferred to my computer and new images are moved over to the phone.
If WiFi is disabled, the phone is in a foreign WLAN or my Mac is not reachable, the Android app should sleep.
There are a few apps, but I haven't seen the perfect solution. Take for example …
Dropsync: Multiple folder sync in the pro version. This seems very nice for Dropbox sync and should work with some aliases on the Mac to my Dropbox folder, but I have the extra step with the cloud in between.
doubleTwist AirSync: Looks nice, but I have no clue if it can be configured to run in the background (Android and Mac).
There are a few more apps with a PC background service which are unsuitable for me.
Is there a "nice and easy" app?
I use Google + and Picasa. The new Picasa desktop client syncs Google + galleries.
I have my phone set up to sync pics to G+, and my Mac syncs the G+ pics to the desktop client.
I would have opted for Picasa & Google+, but I can't get it to sync all folders on Android and the desktop app is a horrible mess with graphic problems on my Mac (Snow Leopard). :/ Or am I just too stupid?
So … this seems to be an unsolvable Problem.
I have all of my Picasa photos synced with Google+ - so everything I add to Google+ (Instant Upload to a PRIVATE gallery) gets synced over to Picasaweb. If I ever need my photos, I just grab them from Picasaweb. I don't keep photos saved offline because I have 20gb of storage on Google's servers (only $5/year - so cheap). Plenty of storage for docs, photos, etc.
