[Q] Titanium Media Sync. Thoughts? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says it all. I was wondering if anyone has used the new Titanium app. Media Sync and what you liked or didn't like? Is it worth it? How is the battery drain using it?

Surprised that no has responded to this..
mmm... will have to try it myself

I'm using it but on milestone.
Seems good, works well for continuous remote backup of specific folder I,e, photos.
Apparently cannot set folders to continually synce down from the cloud though which is annoying as I wanted to leave it downloading videos from my desktop as they are converted while I sleep saving me from manual transfer time in the morning.
Bummer.

Works well
I'm using it on CM7 modded HTC Desire.
Works well.
Not a battery drainer because you can set it to sync only when you are powered, (or not if you prefer).
Syncs to FTP and Dropbox. I tested both and it works.
'Set it and forget it' (and if you want you can even turn the notifications off.
Worth the $.
Regards,
Jan

Great app but does anybody know if it is somehow possible to limit the upload bandwith?
Thx!

I just tried out Titanium Media Sync (on HTC Desire) and was annoyed to learn that you only have limited options for the sync (currently "continuous" and "single one way"). I needed the app to upload (and unload) photos and videos from the device to a network location, ultimately to free up space on the device. However, with the continous sync, any files deleted on the device will result in deletion on the network as well; which does not provide much of a backup.
I ended up with Syncness, which is exactly what I needed. You can even configure it to sync only with specific networks, at specific hours of the day, only at A/C power, etc. (the latter is in all fairness also supported by Titanium). I can even save original file dates/info to the remote location.
Titanium has a nicer user interface but that's not worth much when the program doesn't do what I need it to do.
/Jakob

Syncness and Titanium Media Sync are not the same!
Syncness supports Dropbox & Windows Share (Samba) networks and works ONLY while connected to WiFi, while Titanium works on both 3G & WiFi and supports Dropbox, FTP, SFTP, FTPS servers.
It's really a shame that Titanium doesn't suport two-way sync.
I would really like to see a whole package sync

I just got titanium media sync but i have trouble adding my adrive account to it. CAN ANYONE HELP ME HOW TO DO IT???
Thank you!

I am trying to decide between Syncness and Ti media sync right now. Basically want this to automatically sync my external and internal SD cards to my PCas a backup in case I lose my phone.
I like that ti media sync can do this without being on the same network since I do have an ftp share. How reliable is it? Seems none of these sync apps are considered very reliable. Does it have to run all the time or can you set it to only sync at a set time?

Thanks. Are you running your FTP server on a PC? I set my Windows 7 PC up as a FTP server. When I drag a folder from local to remote, it says failed to create folder. Any idea what the problem might be?
Pete

I've been using Titanium Media Sync (TMS) for some time syncing one way continuous via FTP to my Windows 7 PC. I've encountered a real nuisance which I hope is solvable. Basically the phone and PC are always on the same LAN, but the LAN may change from time to time when traveling. I've found no easy way of modifying the account with new IP address of PC. The PC does have a name on the LAN. I'm wondering how to specify the name (within TMS) instead of the IP address. That way the phone would always find my PC. At the moment, I must delete all the sync'd folders and the account and start over with a new account and set of folders. This also requires deleting all the previously backed up data from PC. There must be a better way! Suggestions appreciated.

HTC Sync: Is there any use?

Frankly, I asked myself this question after looking through the software.
It doesn't seem to back up anything
If it does, it does a damn good job at hiding where it stores the backup files. And that idea is further driven by the lack of "Backup" or "Restore" options in the software.
Its full of bugs
It seems that while HTC put all their design and development effort into their phones, they put little into the Sync app.
There is so many bugs and annoyances inside that I wonder if its any more hopeless than Windows Vista:
- Leaving the Sync in the background, it will keep accessing the HDD twice a second for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The HDD light just keeps flashing non-stop until I kill the process. Is it intentionally trying to kill my battery and drive?
- You can't change the default directory where it dumps all the copies it makes of all your images or other files on your phone.
- If you ask it to sync a specific folder in your computer, it replicates the ENTIRE directory structure in your phone.
Eg.: If I set it to sync My Documents on my netbook, what is does is create this long line of directories in my phone: /sdcard/c/documents and settings/username/my documents/
- And the worst part of it all is that you can't seem to change any of these predefined settings inside any of the software's config files or registry settings.
Its Redundant & Irrelavent
With available apps like DropBox and file explorers like ES File Explorer(I highly recommend this) and Astro File Manager, which can access shared network folders, I fail to see any real use for HTC Sync on my desktop.
Or am I missing something else here?
Regarding HTC Sync, I recently tried it out. I only use it for 2 things.
1. Browser bookmarks syncing. Back with Eclair, the device use to be able to backup bookmarks locally on the device itself. But seems this feature was removed in the Froyo update. Seems to work alright for this purpose. Does anyone else have another way to backup their bookmarks? (I would love to have my browser's bookmarks just sync OTA with Delicious.)
2. Photo syncing. It saves all my camera photos to my computer. Sure, you can just drag&drop in disk drive mode. But this is just convenient.
Overall, I don't find HTC Sync very useful. It's good to have, but you won't be missing out on anything if you don't use it.
I'm sure HTC is dropping development for this program in favor of HTCsense.com. That would be something I would use..
Info
Ok - i use it for 4 Month every day -
it is one of the easyst tool to sync to lotus notes
i sync contact's and appointments and it works perfect
But in the new Version 3.0 - there is no lotus notes sync anymore !! - It is most provoking.
i use htc sync every day to sync my outlook contacts and calendar as i don't want my data stored on someone else's servers.
it does work most of the time admittedly but it's an extremely frustrating piece of software to use. a complete lack of options doesn't really make it easy to use either.
it's the one thing that i really miss about my old winmo device - at least activesync was reliable and predictable.
i'd be happy to pay for a piece of software that could reliably sync with outlook over usb and display using the default apps ...

Q: How do I sync "Notes" into device?

For many years, I have been a user of “notes” in WM devices. I now have accumulated quite a list of them and I use them routinely. They have always resided on an SD card which I swapped when I changed devices.
Has anyone discovered a way to get these “notes” into the new devices? A cloud-based solution is certainly acceptable for transfer of the data, but not for storage. I require device-based storage for almost everything as I spend a lot of time removed from any source of connectivity.
Thanks!
At the moment, there currently is no way to sync files other than media (photos, music, videos, podcasts, which are sync'd through the Zune software).
You can however, store your file online (such as through SkyDrive), and then download them using the phone's web browser. When you download files from the web, they certainly get stored somewhere, but since there is no file browser, you can't browse to a directory and tap the file to start it. For example, when you load a PDF file from the web on your phone, it gets downloaded somewhere, but if you decide to look at the PDF again in the future, you can only access that from the Adobe Reader app, where it gets listed until you decide to remove it.
That being said, I don't think that Windows Phone supports the old Windows Mobile Notes files though, so I'm not sure how you would view them on Windows Phone 7.
An alternative would be to convert over to OneNote and use the online syncing capability (which rocks). Create your notes on your desktop, online, or on your phone and they can automatically stay in sync with each other.
I am not quite sure if you mean this but if you go to office then onenote and then press all you can sync them.
I only used office 2010 for some months, but I think you can create a online link and connect it to your phone.
The data is stored on the phone and if you edit something it will be synced the next time if you are online.
I hope i helped as i am not quite sure myself and I am waiting to get office 2010.

It's pretty easy to set up skydrive to sync with OneNote on your phone. I used cut and paste on my pc to copy my notes from Outlook to OneNote on my browser (skydrive), then synced the phone. Now any changes to the notes - made either on the web app or the phone - get synced automatically. Very convenient after all the initial copying.
another vote for oneNote, the default notbook works great, in system settings go to applications > onenote and slide the sync slider, they'll give you more info, read it, they won't tell you again.
I also setup a second notebook to share with a business partner on my PC, the link showed up in my ME tile, I clicked it out of curiosity, now it's synced too!
+1 for one note, a very convenient solution, not something i had used before now, but i am becoming increasingly reliant on it!

[Q] HTC Sync doesn't update the phone

Hi, I hope you guys can help me out.
I got a new Desire and have set it up to sync from Outlook through HTC Sync. It do sync my appointments, but it don't update they.
Say if I move a meeting to another day or delete it completly. Even though it says is had done a sync, the meeting is still on the original date, and that is getting a bet anoying.
What can I do to solve this problem?
HTC sync is a dog
Maybe it's a dog, but that don't get me anyway, will it?
At least come with a solution to the problem, another app perhaps?
All it should be able to do, is syncing the calendar, contacts and tasks through a cabel.
Why do you need a cable ? Doesn't it sync all of that to the gmail account the phone's on ?
As I see it there is 3 ways to syncronize both the phone and Outlook.
* Cable
* Bluetooth
* By the normal phonesignal (eg. Exchange Activesync)
Exchange Activesync I don't need on a daily basis, cause I will get all from Outlook then (both appointments, contacts, tasks and mails), and it will use data transfer on my subscription to fast, as I haven't got a lot. Besides I think it uses to much batt.
Bluetooth uses to much battery also, but I can deal with that, if I could just find an app, that is free and can sync. both ways properly.
So now I'll settled with the cable, the upside is that it is getting charged at the same time.
The gmail solution is af no go. It is company policy not to use gmail, when we don't know what they may will do with the data transfered. Cause in my mind, they will log the data.
So I after an app that can sync properly, if not I can get HTC Sync to do it.
Does that clear things up a little?

Are you sure that contacts in outlook 2007 are sync-ing properly with your android phone using HTC Sync?
In my case the phone numbers stored in fields like "Car", "Radio", "Assistant" etc are not going to my android device.
I am using the latest HTC Sync v3.1.55.
Anybody with such issues?

I wouldn't know. Normally I just use the more regually fields like, mobil and direct, so haven't looked at that. But I do have trouble with names on contacts, as some gets there middlename removed, but I haven't found "the smoking gun" to solved this problem, either.
Basically I think HTC is cra..... in it's one food. Is there one thing HTC was known for in the past, was it made very good phones for the business consumer. Now they can't even make a decent syncing tool, for the business market.
HTC wake up and get in the match!!!
Don't use Outlook, use Google's products. Cloud computing FTW!
Take a look at MyPhoneExplorer as an alternative (free) to HTC Sync.
I advise to stop using htc sync.
Had troubles with is as well.
Some appointments had 5 identical entries.
Switched to google calendar instead, took me the sweet time to clear up the calendar though . . . . .

I can't use Google's Cloud products. Company policy, and there is still many issues with legal country policies maybe not being upholded. As long as it is not certain that using the Cloud doesn't do anything not legal, we can't use it.

It is very bad. Just today I found out that one of my contacts wasn't sync'ed properly. Very simple setup first name, sirname and phone numbers, but the first name wasn't sync'ed. But as long I haven't found anything better, I have to live with it, which leads me up to....

Can MyPhoneExplorer sync both appointments, contacts and tasks through USB, and do it way better than HTC Sync?
I guess it can. Just tried it, and think we are getting here, but do have some questions, maybe you guys can answer.
Is there an easy way to clean out my appointments, as I now got 2 of all, since I did a sync with MyPhoneExplorer?
The settings under HTC Sync, which should I set them to now? It is set to HTC Sync, but can I change it to eg. charging and still get to functionallity in MyPhoneExplore?
Should I clean up my contacts, and how do I do this easiest?
I can't seem to sync notes as it is disabled in MyPhoneExplorer. Why is that?
If I want to make an appointment on my phone, I can only chose PC Sync, and that is not getting sync to Outlook through MyPhoneExplorer. How should I make appointments on my phone? Is there an app, that make it possibly to make appointments similar to Outlook (appointment/meeting, private/public...)?
And last, I think, MyPhoneExplorer can't seem to sync tasks. Do you know any good app to do that?

Just solved 3 of the above questions.
[1]Is there an easy way to clean out my appointments, as I now got 2 of all, since I did a sync with MyPhoneExplorer?
I found an remove all button.
[2]The settings under HTC Sync, which should I set them to now? It is set to HTC Sync, but can I change it to eg. charging and still get to functionallity in MyPhoneExplore?
I have changed it to just charge, and it seems to work.
[3]Should I clean up my contacts, and how do I do this easiest?
I also here found a remove all buttton, and then did another sync.
So we are down to these questions
I can't seem to sync notes as it is disabled in MyPhoneExplorer. Why is that?

Myphoneexplorer is equally BAD. (Rather I would rate it worse than HTC Sync).
The fields like "car", "Radio", "Pager", "Asistant" are still not Sync-ed.

[Q] Word or Excel Files on Mobile but Synced to Server

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know how to set up your TP2 so that certain files (e.g. word/excel) can be edited but then can be synced so the edits are available on your PC/Laptop?
This will save having to sync the device with the PC (using a USB cable) and having to drag files over etc. (i have unlimited data, so this is not a problem)
The files on the TP2 need to be available offline (so a cloud solution won't do) because sometimes on the Underground, there is no signal.
Can someone help point me in the right direction?
Many thanks!
J.
You could use something like MobSync if you want to sync multiple folders or specific files. Or just use ActiveSync which will sync to a desktop folder if your happy with that. You can use BT if you don't fancy connecting a cable. I don't know of any way of syncing over the internet if that's what you're asking.

microsd card phone to cloud

hi all,
I've used microsd cards for a long time and I'm getting a 5t red. my concern is storage and backing up with a cloud.
how does everyone back up on a cloud? what's your go to, how do you do it and why?
currently I copy paste important folders with ES EXPLORER from my phone to my sd card. then I upload to my google drive with my own folders etc.
how does one go from sd card slots to google drive upload. for example I got multiple photo folders on my sd card from my slr camera, these definitely won't fit with everything else on a 128gb oneplus 5t.
thanks!
I'm currently using FolderSync to store my data via FTP/SFTP to my Synology NAS when I'm home. Triggered via Tasker at 7 PM every day.

so foldersync lets you choose the folders, and you auto sync at 7pm, can you choose it to sync only when in charging and wifi is on?
I really should do this now, I'm doing everything manually right now...
foldersync has an auto sync time and setup, why don't you use that?

I've selected each folder that I want to have synced as a new folder pair. I prefer Tasker as I can manage all syncs at once and do not have to edit every folder pair manually. I use Tasker anyway so I prefer leaving it up to it instead of having 1000 scheduled tasks on each an every app on my device. I guess FolderSync works great with Cloud storages too but for speed and security I prefer my own NAS.

ok yeah you gotta do individual syncs for separate. folders or do a whole local of EVERYTHING. annoying can't highlight to add folders to sync on foldersynx but I'm trying it now and I think it's working well. I'm just doing the entire 0 drive path lmao.....
Then I'll move to oneplus and copy paste or something xD
Any other tips up your sleeve bro? lol
