I'm happy with my 7.
Until there is a replacement phone with a stylus (or my phone explodes) I will be keeping my Note 7

No. Once recalled you are taking on a lot of the risk by not turning it in. You also will get no updates.

Grrr I want to keep it as long as possible. Maybe when the v20 comes out and gets root I would consider changing.

I talked to Verizon earlier, and they said I could swap my Note out for a temporary phone until the Pixel releases. They also said they would waive the restocking fee on both exchanges, so I think that's the route I'm going to take. I really love the Note 7, but I just don't wanna risk losing everything due to a fire
I know Samsung has stated we should return them, but does that make it an official recall?
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Well I never sold my Note 4 because I thought this might happen so I guess its back to that :'(
They can't say the word "Recall" yet because there are legal ramifications that comes with, so its basically a Recall without the Recall. I don't know my plans yet, I'm going to wait for the V20 probably on the 24th. If there is no resolution on the N7 (Highly Likely) then its either an IP7 Plus, or V20. Im not going to go with the Pixel.
Is the v20 date confirmed? I swear LG has the most botched, hype killing announcement to release datr ratio ever.
I would grab the pixel, but I'm pretty pissed about how Verizon is jacking up the updates. I dont care about cloud storage, so nothing else on that phone stays out beyond a "meh" factor

Rippley you can buy one directly from google and use it on Verizon and still get all the updates. There really is nothing special about that phone though, might get the V20, probably just going back to the Note 4 DE for another year.
At this point I think I would take back my paid off Nexus 6, install Nougat on it, enjoy having a completely unlocked bootloader and unrestricted root, unlimited updates and then expect Samsung to give me a first opportunity to pre-order the Note 8 since I preordered the Note 7, and knock like half the cost of the Note 8 as a way of saying thanks. I think you guys thinking you want a fully paid for Note 8 are a bit overstepping. You never actually paid for the Note 7.

Yea but I'm not paying full price and Google wants damn near perfect credit to finance one.
The v20 is interesting, but LG had so many heat, screen throttle and keyboard lag issues with my g3 and g4. I have a hard time trusting them.

My main issue is that the v20 might not have root and a phone is useless to me without it.
Likely, Samsung will at the very least implement the 60% battery limit or disable fast charging. There is also talk that carriers could deactivate IMEIs by a certain date.
I just got off the phone with Verizon.
Seems that its a voluntary recall. The Verizon rep said I can upgrade my phone at any time but I can keep my Note 7 until I find a phone I like.
Not loving the Pixel Xl so I will be for the New LG. If I don't like the LG I can wait for the Galaxy S8 in 4 months without the fear of my Note being turned off.

We know that Verizon has gimped this device. We know Verizon has sold app space on our device storage to the highest bidder. Yes we could disable apps and get around a lot of things. But Verizon has literally treated as FOOLS. Is it all worth it?
We have a 14 day return policy. In my case I have 90 days thru Costco (I believe).
How many if you are seriously considering returning it?
I have until Friday Sept 2nd for my 14 days.
It's amazing how much I had enjoyed the OP3. Now I'm seriously considering throwing the phone back in Verizon's face (figuratively of course).
How many of you are considering returning?
Why return when you can Odin TMO or AT&T firmware since the hardware is the same for all carriers? The only feature I wanted was Samsung cloud and that is now doable and working for me. BThe rest of the features disabled are minimal IMHO.

No, they don't support the same bands I believe. Unless someone finds a way to enable them, you could always go with the N930U when it comes out.
TBH I always consider returning anything. Then the 14 days comes and goes...
Look, it's only been a week and there's already root. Even if it's a pain in the arse to do, you have it. That may be close to a record.
Compared to the Note 5 which hasn't been touched. Look how long the Note 4 took to get somewhere.
We could only hope for a way to unlock the bootloader.
But until then, at least there is a way to root the device and it's actually a bonafide root. None of this temporary stuff.
I'm sure this cross flashing stuff will get patched in a future release.
But it's always a challenge at first.
I liked the hardware and options when the S7E came out. Then as I used the phone it started pissing me off. That one I regretted keeping past the return. When I got my GearVR (finally got it in June!) I broke out my Note 5 and used it with that. Then I realized how much I missed the Note 5 and started using it again and put the S7E in a drawer.
Now that the Note 7 is here I'm finding it has the features I like in the Note 5 with the features of the S7E minus its shortcomings. (especially the over sensitive screen and edge panels!). I do wish they stuck with the 16MP sensor. HOWEVER, the camera software on the Note 7, particularly in professional mode, is superior to any Samsung device prior. Being able to adjust shutter speed while shooting video rocks!

I agree. This phone improves upon the S7E. Like you, I always buy with the intention of returning but the Note is a keeper and will be my daily driver. I'll attempt root tomorrow and see how it goes. I like the fact we can always Odin back to stock and maybe I'll try the TMO firmware since I have a TMO sim.

Never.. I love this thing.. I really didn't think I would.. But even with them messing with things(i consider them like 5 year old kids that can't leave anything alone), I still like the device. And at this point, I blame Samsung.. They either don't care(which it honestly seems to me to be the case), or simply have no guts..
Either way, there are ways around most of the carrier foolishness.. And it honestly makes me laugh. This is by far the fastest root to have been achieved on a note that I can remember, and I've had all but the 5. The moor they try and lock things down, the better our developers get.. And hire all they want, as it shows, there are plenty in the waking that each generation, are better and more determined than the last.. So I say, to Verizon, who really cares about your bloat and messing.. It will be worked around anyhow..
But no, I wouldn't trade this thing for the world
from note 7
I'm debating on it because I for some reason dont get any better battery life than I do with my 6P. I did a hard reset last night and downloaded the apps manually that I use in a day and gonna try that out today and see how it works. If its still garbage it more than likely will go back

1. The software settings options Verizon had received. I thought it was funny when one of the threads mentioned the removal of ram and battery options. Some people were pissed cause it was gone and the other side was largely berating them because "programmers were better know and knew what was best to optimize the phone."
I feel that flies in the face of what so many android users want and the xda forum stands for. If I buy a phone, it's my phone, to do with as I damn well please, for better or worse.
2. My job puts my phone in some very tough and tumble situations. Quite frankly, I don't feel there's a case/screen protector combo that will keep it safe. I've previously sworn by iblaison cases, and I'm willing to bet they have survived more abuse than many of you put your phones through.
When they get the case/screen/body protector thing figured out, maybe I'll be back.
Guys... in light of the recall today AND the other issues that I've talked about.. I have returned by Galaxy Note 7. It was fun while it lasted, but the last thing I want is the phone exploding or catching fire (small chance.. but still good enough for samsung to issue a recall and stop the sales).
I returned it back to Costco and got the Moto Z Droid instead. So long guys..
In lieu of this HORROR to my beloved Note 7, to which i have enjoyed a replacement since around 9/12 with not a single blip nor issue... I do NOT want to send back this device, but under the current circumstances and warnings by the CDSC, we have no choice. So Samsung, you want to keep me from going off to Schmapple or HTC, Motorola, Sony.. Here is what you do...
You inform the carriers to give us replacement devices, lets say the S7E or what have you. Then, Upon release of a Fixed, New, and Tested NOTE 8.. You have the carriers bypass all the bullcrap they are going to feed us about upgrading, and let any known and proven Note 7 UPGRADE TO IT FOR FREE.
That is customer service, and showing how to take care of the Loyal Samsung consumer. Most of us here do not want to leave your brand, and still put faith in the company, even in the hardest times with the Note 7. Its a fantastic device, best phone i have ever seen or had IMO hands down. I personally used a Note 3 for 4 YEARS, bypassing the 4 and 5, to wait on this device. Im not giving up so easily, but in all good faith your in severe crisis mode now. Treat the consumer right. You can't live without us, and some of us have chosen to stand by your product.

I agree this is their best course of action. I've been an LG owner for 4 phones in a row (Spectrum, G2, G3, and V10) and decided to try the Note 7 because the V20 was taking too long to release. Now I really like the Note 7 and don't want to return it. I'm actually going to hang on to it as long as possible because I want more news and information as to what is going to happen. There isn't anything out that even comes close to being able to replace the Note 7. I use the S-Pen constantly and it's the reason I wanted to try a Note 7 to begin with. I never use my finger on this phone and I love always having a fingerprint free screen.
Samsung needs to make this right though if they want to salvage some of what they've lost because of it.
I hope they do something like that. I would be shocked if it actually happened. I have owned many Samsung phones. Fascinate, Droid Charge, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4, Note 5 and the Note 7.
I am pretty much done. I preordered a Pixel XL from Google. I will probably pick up a Moto G4 for the month and keep it as a spare.

They lost like...$17 Billion yesterday. It's just getting started. I'm not expecting much, they're a huge diversified company that doesn't even try that hard to maintain phones from a year ago. This was a brilliant phone (I thought) but I doubt I'll buy another Samsung after this nightmare. I'd love to think they'd make some dramatic turn toward the customer and become reborn as a something better, like an Android version of what Apple has going, but no one seems to know how to do that in the Android space.

Well, I guess i'm one of the only people who owns two of the original Note 7's . I have had no issues with my phone except for the darn warning that pop's up when i charge it. My reason for still having these two devices in my possession is that Verizon never got around to sending replacements to their retailers and wouldn't except all returns to the corporate store. So here we sit with original Note 7 devices.
I have owned every note except for the original one which was only offered by ATT, not i'm being offered a galaxy S-7, hell the S series is which i ended with a note, can't handle it, i need the pen, i need the functionality, i need the freedom which is why i came on to see if i can find a root for my device. If i find a root and get rid of the recall message i will not be trading in my phone, if the message appears I might consider it, but i still i won't especially since my only choice if i want to trade in my phone is a 32 GB note 5, hell i traded in 64 GB to get this device.
What's a Note user to do until the next release. ........
Here's my theory. I had the original, had no issues. Exchanged it. I've taken this thing in the sauna at the y 3 times and it still hasn't done anything. Hell, I charged it on the arm of the couch last night and monitored the temp just to see, and it actually cooked down from 91 to 77. What exactly is causing the issues to begin with is my question?
Well they lost me. I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 4 and recently just got the Note 7 because I am sick of Apple too, but got my new Note 7 about a week ago and here I am sending it back. I enjoyed my Note 7 over the iPhone but after this cluster f*** I am going to the iPhone 7. I am so disappointed in this whole thing though. I had a VR headset coming and everything.
I loved my 2 Note 7s and never had any issues with either of them. I'm back on my note 4 for now. I'm contacting my carrier to see if they'll waive the year's wait for the Jump program so I can get another Note when it launches. I believe it'll be up to the carrier, not Samsung.
RIP Note 7.

Cool story bro
I have an original note 7 and yeah that notice that pops up when you charge your phone is annoying but I'm not giving this phone up. I've even dropped it once when it was out of its case and the screen cracked a bit. Came from a note 4 and this is hands down the best and most comfortable smart phone out right now, or it was at least. Nothing else out there really peaks my interest too much.

Verizon didn't want to do my exchange because the line that I had with the N7 is no longer active
Was thinking of switching to a Pixel but I went through a fairly nasty preorder fail with Verizon & Google so I wash my hands of that phone
Would like to hold on to the Note 7 until the Galaxy S8 release, what's the general consensus will Verizon kill the Note 7 off by either February or April
when the expected debut for the S8 is to allegedly arrive?
I'm in the same boat except I actually got my silver 128gb Pixel XL a day before launch and returned it. Reactivated my Note 7. I don't see how they can charge us for the device, they paid off the contract. Phone is my property. I plan to ride this until the S8 comes out...
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
All we can do is ride it out if we choose to keep it. I'm happy I did so far. I don't see that changing any time soon.
Verizon can take my payments for the phone at any time. I have a surplus in my Verizon account to do so. I did not default in any way. So, we will see.
They can't charge you for it if the terms of the contract were satisfied by the contract being paid off, at which time the device becomes your property. That's my take on it. I don't want anything they are offering right now..... so I'll wait..
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Basically, all I'm doing is accumulating one month's phone bill over the course of 10 months. So when the Note8 is released I'll still have my upgrade in tact, I'll be able to get an early upgradeable Note9, and I can skip a phone payment 10 months from now.
I was advised that this course was the safest course and should disallow even the blocking of my phone's IMEI. But, as I said, we shall see. I was advised that the course I have chosen allows for legal recourse and is defensible if need be.
But, I am not an attorney.

Of course I have turned off updates and I get no annoying pop-ups. I have spoken with Verizon on the phone and they show no record of me ever owning a Note 7. Verizon are treating the device as if it never existed. I'm not a novice user and actually have had a thread here on XDA for over a month showing people all the possible apps and services they can disable. I currently have near 170 apps and services turned off and there is no way I'll ever get any OTA's or annoying pop-ups. My Note 7 is locked from outside interference and I just use it as a Wi-Fi device now.
If Verizon ever intended on charging people for the device after the second recall they would not have wiped it off people's account before they returned it but would rather have told people they must return it first.

I still have mine but only use it for Wi-Fi only device. If VZW hadn't killed the hotspot feature I'd still be using it as my daily driver

Foxfi works on the Note 7.
My VZ hotspot works fine. Just used it earlier today.
Using my Note 7 with no problems just a fast and dependable phone. In fact I doubled down on the Note 7 by purchasing the "Samsung Note 7 Battery Back Pack" for $38.95 on Amazon. Had the back pack for a week now an it is great to have on the go battery reserves.

Some of us are having problems with it

Still have my PH1 OG before the recall phone. . . Doing fine here
Anyone hear about Samsung using the Killswitch in the US on the 15th? I hope it isn't the case.... This free phone is absolutely fantastic on my end. Would hate for it to become a wifi tablet.
Yes, the ones that used to be ours, only with smaller batteries and new housing. Frankly it pi** es me off.
Samsung better make sure it safely deleted previous user data or they will have new privacy and personal data related law suits on their hands.
Citation? We seen this sort of claim before.

Sorry, here you go. It is all over Google.
There is a lot of "apparently" and "reports say" in those articles. In any case, to sell in those markets they would have to replace the ROM, so I don't think there is much to worry about. Besides, who turns in a phone without wiping it thoroughly?

I think average user thinks factory reset will take care of it all, but it won't.
And from June.... May as well wait for the 8

I'm using the Note 5 and it's starting to show its age. I might consider this until the Note 8ncomes out if the price is reasonable, I'm hoping under 500.

Seeings I'm still on my note7 all I'm curious about is if I might wind up with Nougat at some point. This is incredibly harsh on everybody who gave them up. We forced you to give your phone to us and now we're giving them away cheap to somebody else. Whole thing from start to finish has been so **** on note7 owners.

Why? Everyone got a full refund. If they've solved the problem this time, it seems pretty sensible to me to recover some costs

Hopefully those are new "refurbished" devices they had in stock, not a refurbished phone from Bob who keyed up his screen and got pizza grease inside the speaker grill.
Anyhow, this article states otherwise:

Thank you! I too have now found a few rebutal articles and feel a bit better. Even if I got a refund, that felt like my phone was taken away to be sold to someone else to enjoy while I have to put up with my dated Note4 (but I won't for too long, life is too short to be dealing with freezes, reboots etc).

Naturally, not disputing that. This is early days but at least e-mail everyone who returned the phone and offer them a handset too.
Maybe Samsung customers could be contact directly but I wouldn't trust car phone warehouse to catch pneumonia in the artic let along follow up to note 7 customers lol
Not feeling better anymore. They are doing it! Liars...

I'd rather a refurbished Note 7 that this S8 'Bixby' nonsense.
