Refund for Note 7 - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to give some information out to everyone in regards to the Note 7. With the latest news involving the replacement Note 7s having battery issues, Samsung and all carriers have stopped the exchange of the Note 7. Depending on the carrier, they will either let you exchange your phone for another device(S7, iphone, etc.) or a full refund. Wherever you bought your Note 7 is where you will go to do the exchange or refund. If you bought it on the Verizon website, then go to a corporate store. If you have purchased your phone through a third party(ebay, swappa) Samsung will refund you for the Note 7. I literally just got off the phone with Samsung. I purchased my phone through Swappa and I asked the Samsung rep on how to get a refund since I purchased from a third party. The representative asked for my name, address, and IMEI number of the device. Then the representative asked what third party and directed me to someone else to initiate the refund. Once I got with the other person, he told me that they will be sending me a box with a prepaid label and told me to put the phone and all accessories in the box and mail it back out. He said once the company receives the phone, it will take 10 to 14 days to receive a check for the refund. He told me if you happen to have the receipt of the phone, put it in the box and they will refund you that amount. If you dont, they will give you the MSRP of the phone based off of what your carrier is selling it as. I told the guy that I didn't have the receipt obviously since I bought it from Swappa and the seller didn't have it and he told me that I would be getting the refund of $864 since that is the MSRP of the phone through Verizon. Just thought I would share my experience to everyone who may be in the same boat as me as I will never buy from a third party (Swappa) again.

Little late dude. It's already been posted the note is done. Samsung announced worldwide recall. No notes will be swapped. All either returned or swapped to another device.

My apologies. I didn't know that this was late news. I literally just saw it on the news this morning that people were having battery issues on their replacement Note 7.

I called the main number. 1-800-Samsung. I called on September 30th. They gave me a reference number. I had to call several times before I was transferred to the right department. They are supposed to get back to me in 5-7 business days. Apparently today is not 7 business days yet. I called this morning they said they would call me tomorrow.

I called samsung to. Same response 5 to 7 business days. I told them that is pathetic. I said you need to do whatever it takes to get these phones out of consumers hands....3rd party or not. If something does happen i will start a lawsuit. Bite the bullet and just issue refunds. They said they NOTED it lolol.

I was told i did not have to power it down, only power it down if it fealt hot. So they cant claim that.

Just a helpful message to those dealing with Verizon. I successfully did an exchange for the iPhone 7 + today and they tried to charge me a $20 per line upgrade fee for each Note 7 I exchanged. Your situation may be different but I did not upgrade to the note 7 originally, I was a new customer purchasing the Note 7 but there is no way they should be charging anyone a fee in this situation. The guy on the phone just said it was all sales tax, it wasn't until I received email confirmation of my order that I noticed there was sales tax + upgrade fees.

yes it was a Craigslist device and sweet I need to call them! They just credit it to a credit card number you give them??

What is Samsung going to do about the accessories that I purchased for my Note 7? Phone cases, USB-C cables and adapters, apps for the Gear VR that I purchased? I am waiting for some sort of statment form Samsung. I hope that address these issues. I am really gonna miss my Note 7!

"Free VZW Message: Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Note7 will no longer be sold for safety reasons. We strongly recommend that you power down and exchange your Note7 for another device of your choice. You can exchange your Samsung Galaxy Note7 at go.vzw.com/note7faq. Exchanging your Note7 online instead of visiting a Verizon store will be your most efficient way to get a new device."

Per the discussion I had moments ago with a Verizon rep for their on-line store, September 17th is the expected date for new (non-exploding) Note 7 inventory.
I've been told by a rep from Samsung that the Note 7 replacements were received by Verizon stores today. I am going to the closest store today to hopefully get a new phone. The phone number set up by Samsung for the Note 7 replacement issue is 1-888-987-4357.
UPDATE 03:02 PM: I just checked with the closest stores to me and no replacements have been received.

I called Samsung this morning and the woman I spoke to said that the new phones should begin shipping out the end of this week and that I should start calling Verizon around Wednesday of next week (9/14) to see if they are in stores yet.
Well I'll be in the Bahamas next week, so hopefully they have some Note 7's left for me to exchange when I get back lol
Just got back from a VZ store. It's amazing how incompetent these stores are. They dont know annnnyyyytttthhhiiiinnnngggg. Or rather they just dont want to be bothered. If you have products arriving, or you placed an order for a product, shouldnt you know when it is arriving? I can't imagine Corporate or UPS does not provide tracking numbers.

Each store acts like their own and their employees don't know anything Zzz
No new Note 7s anywhere in Midland/Odessa. Unknown when stock is coming in.

Look guys, there has been no actual information from samsung in regard to this incident quite honestly its gonna be a minute they have to re-product a few million Note7's so them getting it done in a few weeks is fantastic but we all have to take into account with a production this fast
what other problems are going to pop up, also if the quality is going to be the same?
with that being said I manage a location and the reps are not misinformed there are not informed because none of our stores have been updated after us allowing them all to be returned damaged or not. now if the reps you are speaking with no professional enough (a bad apple) then ask to speak with another or the manager, we are all about our customer service.

I talked to the manager at a VZW 3rd party retailer and that's pretty much what he said. There has been no official process handed down from Samsung, nor VZW, regarding the exchange of a Note 7 to a Note 7.
He said the only official process handed down is the waiver of re-stocking fees to the 30th and exchange to a S7 or S7 Edge.
Annoyed
To be absolutely clear - I would not expect them to have a new phone in my hands today - I do expect them to have figured out a plan before now, communicate the plan via the media and contacting their partners (aka Verizon) and their customers (aka you and me). I don't find it acceptable that I have to send them the phone back and then they will reimburse me and then I can purchase a phone. Their problem, make it easy for me to cope. Don't make it my problem.
I love my Note 7. I love the dumb stylus that I didn't want to like. But today, I am angry and I am not good at being angry.
Sorry, I needed to vent with folks who likely understand/empathize and frankly probably feel the same way. I will go back to being supportive and reasonable in a little bit.

So now that I got an email telling me to turn off the phone I went to the Verizon store. They had no loaner phones. The only thing they could do is let me get a new phone at full retail and waive the restocking fee.
I called Samsung. They took my information and said go back to the Verizon store in 24-48 hours. They should then have a loaner phone.

I went to Verizon store today and they exchanged my Note 7 for a Samsung S7 Edge, but it is not a true exchange, I have until Sept. 30 to exchange again with no fee for the Note 7 when they arrive. If it should happen that the Note 7 replacements are delayed beyond Sept. 30, they will extend my exchange period until they arrive. The manager of the store gave me his card and cell number and wrote down the terms for me. He guaranteed me that I will get one of the Note 7's when they arrive, no matter how long it takes for their shipments to arrive.

They offered that for me. My problem is I still have unlimited data. I use every loophole to stay in contract and still have my data at $29.99. I can't just return and re-buy at the store. I explained that to the manager. This was the best suggestion he had until the replacement arrives.

Note 7 UK Recall Underway - Just got call with Instructions for replacement unit

I just got a call from Samsung 20 minutes ago.
They are delivering a replacement unit to my work address on Monday 12 September and I will have to give in my old unit at the same time. They will suggest a back up app in an email which I haven't received as yet. They of course advised me not to use the phone in the interim.
For information I was one of the lucky 1,000 first pre-orders in the UK.
Will post the email when I receive it.
Wow! I cancelled my O2 pre order today via Carphone Warehouse because their date is stated as October 21st and it was the only way I could get my Early Cancellation fee refunded.

Surprised this doesn't have a ton of replies? Guess people only like bad news, like oooh yeah my note went boom, I'm scared to charge my phone, yeah me too.
Guys, this is promising news?!!
Well this has annoyed me. Mine is the 47th of the 1000 and I'm not getting mine until the 4th October!
Samsung emailed me to say that it's the service providers who will be doing the replacements and this will start from the 19th it will not be done directly from samsung themself.

I got a little card in the box that said it's one of the first to be shipped and number 0047 of 1000.
I also got the card. I'm number 479 off 1000. Samsung have taken all my details via telephone and email. Awaiting call from them regarding swap over. I'll update here as soon as I've received something or other...
Mine was for CPW and I registered with Samsung for a replacement. Got this email yesterday :-
THE GALAXY NOTE7 EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
You recently purchased a Galaxy Note7 and have probably heard about the reported battery cell issue. We have since stopped sales and shipments of affected devices. But don't worry, your provider or operator will be in touch soon to exchange your device. In the meantime, you don't need to do anything. If you have any questions, please go online for more information, or contact the Samsung customer service team on 0330 7261000.
MORE INFORMATION
I received the same email indie. I called Samsung this morning to confirm what was going on. They told me to call CPW. Spoke to CPW and they bounced me around to various people. I have now sent an email to them requesting clarification on exactly who is dealing with this issue (CPW or Samsung) and when I can expect some information from them.
I stated that I expect a replacement official Samsung screen protector from them as I cannot (as suggested by Samsung when I spoke to them on Saturday) peel it of and re-use it...

Samsung emails says CPW will exchange, CPW bounce you back to Samsung via an automated message then samsung confirmed they'd be doing it.
I was first 1000 with CPW but have no exchange date yet. 12th is promising though.
Shame we can't kept to one thread instead having lots of info all over xda!

I've just rung the number 01628 402031 as advised by the Samsung Shop support team and booked my phone swap via Courier for the 3rd of October.
Not sure if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but they've advised not to send any gifts or accessories back - Fair enough, I didn't expect to have to send the Gear VR or Case back, but the lady on the phone also advised not to send back the charger or anything else that comes in the box, just the phone (and its box)?
Has anyone else received these, or different instructions regarding the collection?

I have been thinking for the past week if I actually want the Note 7, with all these issues popping up(not including the battery). I ordered from Samsung directly, and it was a preorder. It never got shipped out because of the recall, and I was hoping I could cancel it.
I don't know what phone I was going to switch to, but I don't care for it and it's issues.
Hopefully I will get a timely refund a long with it as well.
If you'd actually gotten phone in hand, you'd probably feel different. I was going to take mine in today, but I just couldn't bear to part with it. Maybe tomorrow.

I agree. I'm going through withdrawal. I Odin back to VZW firmware (I was on that root method) and it is boxed up waiting for the exchange unit. Better safe than sorry.

I know I returned my yesterday to my carrier. I miss is badly. This One plus 3 is fast but just not the same. I'm gonna get an Exynos version when they're available again.
Went into tmobile today and the only loaner they would offer was a J7. No thanks. Guess I'll keep my Note 7 until they pry it from my charred remains.

Call T-Mobile at 1-844-275-9309. They will ship you an S7 or S7 edge overnight as a loaner. They instructed me to keep the Note 7 in a safe place and powered off and thet would follow up with an email on how to return the phone. The CSR said that they do not have a time frame as to when the replacements would be available and said that I may just keep the phone and return both the loaner and Note 7 when I exchange it for the new phone.
I called regular Customer service and they told me ro go to the store. Probably because they were offering cheaper phones in store. I got the toll free number from the following link:
https://explore.t-mobile.com/samsung-galaxy-note7-recall?cmpid=CRM_EM_SMSNGGLXYN_BI0WY9IUAL19613
They told me that when the replacements come in, I have the option to keep the loaner or exchange it for the new phone.
Thanks Sirdragonx! I was hoping to make an exchange today, my Note 7 is actually running uncomfortably hot. I should start carrying a fire extinguisher.
Once I got connected to business support, they quickly arranged to send an S7 Edge to tide me over. With any luck it will arrive tomorrow.
I'm hopeful they make a sweetheart deal on the S7 Edge after the loaner period, so I can use it to upgrade another line on my account.

Verizon not selling note 7 ?

Is it true Verizon not selling note 7 after recall is complete?
I think so that's what the rep said when I went into the store but tried to recant when the mananger came out and tried to pursaude me to get the s7edge until it comes back in which I don't think it will ...cause he clearly said we're not selling it anymore at all
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They're not selling it til the phone is fixed. They haven't stopped forever.
I just talked to a Verizon rep, for what it's worth, who did not think Verizon would continue to handle the Note 7 after replacing the recalled ones. I could picture it going either way, and wonder if Samsung might release a very fast next model to get out from under the stigma. I'm just waiting for my local store to get the new ones in to exchange mine, but not sure how I'll feel if we see a Note 8 in a few months.
I know when i talked to Verizon about the pay off on the edge program. He told me that on Samsung's flagship phones you can upgrade every year when the phone ia released and Samsung picks up the balance of the previous generation phone your turning in. So if they jump to note 8 earlier then next year this time, that's fine with me ill just get it

I have never heard of this... Didn't happen when I went from Note 5 to Note 7. Is this a real thing now? Much like Apple's program? This would be big news.

On Verizon anyways yes, there is a handful of devices that qualify for a 12 month upgrade swap like the old edge program was. Pretty much only top tier Samsung phones and iPhones qualify. There's like only 5 handsets that get the exemption. It's been this way since spring. They also give you an extra 2gb data per month per device....

I just bought one..
I just purchased one on the Verizonwireless website. I had to get creative to find the order form, but it says it's shipping out to be here at 10:30AM on 9/21 (to my house). Shop --> Samsung --> click on the Note 7 buy link before it disappears.

Well I guess that's answered. They are such scum. We all sit here with fire balls and they have the nerve to sell to new customers?

I checked, and they said the Note 7 is in stock and shipping today.
Available now the new Galaxy Note7. The Galaxy Note7 was previously recalled on September 9th by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to an issue with the device's battery. This new Galaxy Note7 has been approved by the (CPSC) for all purchases and exchanges.

That's on Target I would think.
I have not gotten this text. Did you upgrade your phone and not return the Note?

I haven't gotten that text either.
This is from Samsung. To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices.

Verizon has said they will not IMEI block or push any updates that completely brick the phone. At least until after the holidays - then all bets are off. An IMEI blacklist will be the end, unless there is a way to change the IMEI to say an older phone like a Note 4 or something that a person already owns. I don't know if that is even possible though. Probably not legal I suppose.

I have scoured the online news and Verizon's website for any indication that they were enacting a 5 day return policy, and I have found nothing.
This text sounds a bit harsh and everything I've read said that refunds will be honored regardless of when the device is returned.
Can you please post a screenshot of the text?

I even called verizon to confirm and they told me yes and that samsung is planning a update to completely kill the note 7 within the next week or so

Well, the Samsung update and the Verizon refund are two completely separate issues.
I'm just talking about the refund for now.
It seems like you upgraded to a new Verizon phone and haven't returned your Note 7 yet.
The only reason Verizon would send the "recovery box" mentioned in the text is if you used your new upgrade.
Did you?

IMEI block would be the end of cellular service but wouldn't render the Note useless.
Useless as a phone, but useless a multimedia device? Nope.
I'm kinda hoping Verizon forgets to send a recovery box whenever I decide to upgrade.
Yes they will kill it and charge full retail and continue to charge for monthly access. Anyone looking to buy a bridge?

I did not upgrade my phone and purchased the Note 7 new under the monthly payment plan at Best Buy. I received a recovery box without requesting one and the text warning me that I would be charged full price if I did not return my Note 7. I still have not at this point returned the phone due to time constraints. I was told by Best Buy to return it to them. Not sure who I should even send the phone back to at this point.

OK, so this makes it seem like Verizon is collecting all phones that weren't bought directly through them but were still sold by them...
Anyway, since you were under Verizon's monthly payment plan, and they have already issued a refund for that plan, you should DEFINITELY return it to Verizon via the recovery box.
That way you are cutting out the middle man (Best Buy).
If you return it to Best Buy, you run the risk of Best Buy not returning it to Verizon, Verizon claiming you never returned the device, then being charged full price.
I guess it's a good thing I keep a spare phone in my glove box. We will see what happens on the 19th.

Sounds reasonable. Will probably send it back to them this week. Thanks for the advice.
I just got a fireproof box and letter by mail from Verizon saying to return by Note 7 in 5 days or I would be charged full price. It's official, Verizon is killing the phone for good.
I never upgraded, I never contacted Verizon for a fireproof box.
I just disabled OTAs and went on with my life.
Trust me, everyone is getting a fireproof box soon. Just wait a week.
Going back to my cracked S4 for now. Gonna wait it out until the S8.
Can't demand payment for a recalled item, returned or not. I have searched and searched, there are no past legal provisions for demanding return on a recalled device or a demand for full payment will be made if not returned. Recalls are all voluntary by the customer. The CPSC can demand a recall but cannot demand all items be returned. They can attempt to force compliance by blocking IMEI and pushing the updates (blocked on mine) to limit their liability which is why Samsung is going after these but that's it. Now if someone has found something different in recall history or law point it out but the reason for the recall is to reimburse the customer for a "faulty" product and remove them from consumption/use as much as possible. No provision in recall law to force return of product.

No. Verizon already refunded all of our payments for the Note 7. This makes all of our Note 7's effectively their property.
If we want to keep our Note 7's, and make it our property again, we may do so... But the refund will be taken away.
For example, why would Verizon refund a Note 7 that was lost? They won't, and will charge that person the full price of the phone.
Verizon didn't have to refund all of our Note 7's upfront. None of the other carriers did. But, since they did, they have the right to recharge us if they don't get the phones back.
You may have "searched and searched" but we are in a very unique situation with our phone manufacturer and our carrier. I highly doubt that any carrier has ever before fully refunded a recalled phone upfront. The carriers are not required to do that, and Verizon was being nice by doing so.
