Why not? It's the newest info and there is no real "note 7 burn discussion thread". I'm just curious why the thread is bad actually. It's an important information, that shouldn't be buried in a 20 site thread.

Yeah ... right when I can get a new phone this problem comes up and now I don't really have something to get... need a good camera and > 5.5"...
- note 7 > flames
- pixel > too expensive (could buy it, but I won't because the price itself is an insolence...)
- LG v20 > no release in europe for now
- moto z > cam not that good
- Sony Z5 > no alternate firmware / root without loosing some cam quality etc.
- One Plus, Axon, HTC ... > bad cams in comparison
Right now I even thing about getting a nexus 6p (like my wife, nightshots are awesome and cheap to get). Still will wait a bit how this disaster plays out for samsung. If they can fix it, the note is not off the table.
Same as my thoughts! You can answer the poll then
Thank you!

If Samsung ceases total production on it or even if they put out a v3 .. they would have to replace it for you since it's now a pariah. I'd call them and get them to exchange it for an S7 Edge. It IS the very least they could do. I really, really wanted this 2nd battery to be the fix and we could move on. Alas, that sh** ain't happening.
Im going to have to ask for a full refund. No need to try thirst note 7.

Ya this truly is a $hit storm. I love this unit as it runs perfect I'm still actually using the original unit but since all these new inconvenience it's getting frusting especially if ever they decide to stop supporting and updates. :crying:
So, will we be able to exchange the S7 Edge loaners for Note 7's once they are deemed safe again?
I know it's a hassle, but I really like this phone. I don't even care about Nougat or future updates other than security updates...
Samsung can stick the 25$ gift card/credit up their a$$. I wasted countless hours in the last 2 months on this phone. Great phone but not worth all this BS.
I suppose I will hold onto it until the v20 hits. Hopefully it's not hard to obtain since many will be jumping the sinking Samsung ship like I am.
I want to keep the Note 7. I don't want any other device. I'll replace it again if needed but I want another Note 7. There is no other device comparable to the Note. Maybe by some miracle we can get a unlocked bootloader edition Note 7 by chance. Just think how awesome custom Roms could be for this device.

You would have to wonder how much time and effort Samsung will put into this device with future updates...the community around this device will be small as well, which won't bode well for custom roms.
I was waiting for my wife's carrier to get the Note 7 in stock to get one (they had already discounted it to $0 on a 2 year contract, and her contract was up). I have and love my S7 and it has me spoiled.
If anyone can name me a 5.5in amoled screen or larger phone with awesome camera, sd card slot and good water resistance, I'll bite. I'm not a fan of the big curves of the S7 Edge
Guess I'm on track with having the S7 Edge for 2-3 years, then getting the Note 9 or 10...
Wonder what the tech will be then?
I agree with that, I am not giving up mine, but am worried about the future of updates. I have the ATT one, and they suck on updates anyways. That scares me more than the phone popping.

The way I see it, samsung will not put too much effort into updating it...because they DID say to return it completely or exchange it...as a business if i have sent out such notice, i will not expect buyers to dive at it once again (upon a second recall) if ever released...with that information, i will put my energy elsewhere to bring in profit...rather than a sinking ship.
adding sammy delay in update to that of the carrier...we are looking at nouget in 2 years lol
Over the past 2 years the Note series and S series phones have become very closely related, almost identical besides the s-pen and software. I wouldn't doubt for Samsung to scrap the note line altogether after this and have the S8 and new S8+ with included s-pen. Nightmare from the note goes away and they continue on with their successful S series. They've already had a Note 8 before so they had to change something with the name anyway. Just an idea.

I think they push a FW update again, disabling the phone if you do not power down yourself.
But yes, I can wait... again....
In lieu of this HORROR to my beloved Note 7, to which i have enjoyed a replacement since around 9/12 with not a single blip nor issue... I do NOT want to send back this device, but under the current circumstances and warnings by the CDSC, we have no choice. So Samsung, you want to keep me from going off to Schmapple or HTC, Motorola, Sony.. Here is what you do...
You inform the carriers to give us replacement devices, lets say the S7E or what have you. Then, Upon release of a Fixed, New, and Tested NOTE 8.. You have the carriers bypass all the bullcrap they are going to feed us about upgrading, and let any known and proven Note 7 UPGRADE TO IT FOR FREE.
That is customer service, and showing how to take care of the Loyal Samsung consumer. Most of us here do not want to leave your brand, and still put faith in the company, even in the hardest times with the Note 7. Its a fantastic device, best phone i have ever seen or had IMO hands down. I personally used a Note 3 for 4 YEARS, bypassing the 4 and 5, to wait on this device. Im not giving up so easily, but in all good faith your in severe crisis mode now. Treat the consumer right. You can't live without us, and some of us have chosen to stand by your product.

I agree this is their best course of action. I've been an LG owner for 4 phones in a row (Spectrum, G2, G3, and V10) and decided to try the Note 7 because the V20 was taking too long to release. Now I really like the Note 7 and don't want to return it. I'm actually going to hang on to it as long as possible because I want more news and information as to what is going to happen. There isn't anything out that even comes close to being able to replace the Note 7. I use the S-Pen constantly and it's the reason I wanted to try a Note 7 to begin with. I never use my finger on this phone and I love always having a fingerprint free screen.
Samsung needs to make this right though if they want to salvage some of what they've lost because of it.
I hope they do something like that. I would be shocked if it actually happened. I have owned many Samsung phones. Fascinate, Droid Charge, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4, Note 5 and the Note 7.
I am pretty much done. I preordered a Pixel XL from Google. I will probably pick up a Moto G4 for the month and keep it as a spare.

They lost like...$17 Billion yesterday. It's just getting started. I'm not expecting much, they're a huge diversified company that doesn't even try that hard to maintain phones from a year ago. This was a brilliant phone (I thought) but I doubt I'll buy another Samsung after this nightmare. I'd love to think they'd make some dramatic turn toward the customer and become reborn as a something better, like an Android version of what Apple has going, but no one seems to know how to do that in the Android space.

Well, I guess i'm one of the only people who owns two of the original Note 7's . I have had no issues with my phone except for the darn warning that pop's up when i charge it. My reason for still having these two devices in my possession is that Verizon never got around to sending replacements to their retailers and wouldn't except all returns to the corporate store. So here we sit with original Note 7 devices.
I have owned every note except for the original one which was only offered by ATT, not i'm being offered a galaxy S-7, hell the S series is which i ended with a note, can't handle it, i need the pen, i need the functionality, i need the freedom which is why i came on to see if i can find a root for my device. If i find a root and get rid of the recall message i will not be trading in my phone, if the message appears I might consider it, but i still i won't especially since my only choice if i want to trade in my phone is a 32 GB note 5, hell i traded in 64 GB to get this device.
What's a Note user to do until the next release. ........
Here's my theory. I had the original, had no issues. Exchanged it. I've taken this thing in the sauna at the y 3 times and it still hasn't done anything. Hell, I charged it on the arm of the couch last night and monitored the temp just to see, and it actually cooked down from 91 to 77. What exactly is causing the issues to begin with is my question?
Well they lost me. I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 4 and recently just got the Note 7 because I am sick of Apple too, but got my new Note 7 about a week ago and here I am sending it back. I enjoyed my Note 7 over the iPhone but after this cluster f*** I am going to the iPhone 7. I am so disappointed in this whole thing though. I had a VR headset coming and everything.
I loved my 2 Note 7s and never had any issues with either of them. I'm back on my note 4 for now. I'm contacting my carrier to see if they'll waive the year's wait for the Jump program so I can get another Note when it launches. I believe it'll be up to the carrier, not Samsung.
RIP Note 7.

Cool story bro
I have an original note 7 and yeah that notice that pops up when you charge your phone is annoying but I'm not giving this phone up. I've even dropped it once when it was out of its case and the screen cracked a bit. Came from a note 4 and this is hands down the best and most comfortable smart phone out right now, or it was at least. Nothing else out there really peaks my interest too much.

I would not be surprised if they do this in all honesty, think of the money they would have saved if it was removable.
LG V20 is proof that you can make a phone stylish while still having a removable battery.
Waterproofing to me is a gimmick, I don't use phones in the tub or drop them in the toilet. It's pointless gimmick outside of those that might use it on boating trips and to take pictures under water.
As far as investing in a Samsung phone in the future why not? People don't get it when companies screw up like this they will work much harder to make sure this doesn't happen again. It's not like all of a sudden all future phones they make become improvised explosive devices.

Well, if there is no freebie involved, I won't be pre-ordering at full price anyway. I usually buy when there is some nice incentive to be had.
But the next Samsung Flagship will be the 5.0-5.5" range S8 (edge), probably with annoying SD 830. So I think I'll pass again.
I'm not pre-ordering anything anymore.
Also, Sammy was my preferred Android vendor. They've lost that status with me.
I'll consider future Samsung phones, but I will have pause due to this.

I think I'm done with Samsung. How can they mess up twice on their flagship phone. They might not even know why the phones are catching fire. How can I trust them again that the next phone I buy from them won't have some defect?
The hassle in setting up a new phone is bad enough. But I'm sure most of us have bought cases and screen protectors already. I even ordered mine from Amazon and I paid a lot to ship it to the Philippines.
Sorry Samsung. You just lost a customer.

2-3 months depending on how the reviews are but no less than 2 months. Of course this is also dependant on whether I buy a new phone this year to replace the Note 7 because I can't afford to buy a phone every year since I like to travel and buy other gadgets and such, nor do I see a need to do so. I'm good every 2 years at minimum but 3 years even works fine. Currently debating the overpriced Pixel XL (lack of micro sd sucks but unlimited full size picture storage helps alleviate that a little bit and just buy the 128GB) or the LG V20 since it will be the first to work with Wind's upcoming LTE band-66. Decisions decisions.
When you consider the range of really premium top rated products Samsung has launched over the past few years, why people are turning their backs on them now because of this, astounds me! The Note 7 is still a beautiful phone. It had an issue that could have happened to any other device out there whoever manufactured it . Look at the S7 line it's also stellar. The Gear VR and their smartwatches. And the S8 rumours point to something very innovative and unique on the way next year. So why cut your nose off to spite your face? You can't deny they have made some damn good phones.
They tried to fix the problem with the Note 7 and they eventually stopped production to do what was right for most people. Give them some credit. Stop playing into the hands of the media and the Apple fanboys, intent on bringing Samsung down. They certainly deserve another go.
Yet, after all those years, they can't make a phone that doesn't overheat (or lag for that matter). The focus is on the battery now, but that wasn't the only fault with the N7. I'm still mighty pissed of there is no flat version and that we are getting ignored in Europe most of the time. There is no high-end Samsung with a flat screen larger than 5,1"...
I'd wait about a couple of months, but I tend to do that with everything I buy... early adopting is not for me.
Will buy next flagship Samsung ASAP.... hopefully it will come with a Stylus but nonetheless i will buy and for the time being i m buying J7 prime or A8
I'm pre ordering the s8. I don't care what anyone says but the note 7 is the best phone of 2016. It's a shame it had to go out like that. I think Samsung did the right thing and I'm still down with them. For now...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I voted for several weeks, but in reality it will totally depend on the situation. I cannot really answer with the options given.
I am not sure what I will do next, and I don't really want to go with an S if they're like the S7 or S7 Edge. My wife and I had both of those during the two week we waited for the Note 7 replacement and, well, for various reasons we didn't like them. If they come out with something like a Note, I may very well do a pre-order as soon as we're able to. But, again, it will totally depend on the situation. I may also wait some weeks or even months, or never even going back to Samsung if I find a phone that I like (so far, little chance for that, I'm going back to my Note 4 once I return my Note 7). I'm willing to take a look elsewhere, like the LG V20 or the Google Pixel XL, and if I like what I have with those, then Samsung wont see me back for some time.
I think for me, in reality, my decision will have little to do with what happened to the Note 7, but it's more like the total package. I fully realize this could've happened with any phone, just so happen to be this one. I don't mind going back to Samsung, but right now they don't have what I want, and when they do, I may not want to go back if I'm satisfied with something else.
From a news article... They might not even know what caused this. Who's to say future phones won't have the same problem
When several Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones spontaneously exploded in August, the South Korean company went into overdrive. It urged hundreds of employees to quickly diagnose the problem.
None were able to get a phone to explode. Samsung’s engineers, on a tight deadline, initially concluded the defect was caused by faulty batteries from one of the company’s suppliers. Samsung, which announced a recall of the Note 7 devices in September, decided to continue shipping new Galaxy Note 7s containing batteries from a different supplier.
The solution failed. Reports soon surfaced that some of the replacement devices were blowing up too. Company engineers went back to the drawing board, according to a person briefed on the test process who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the internal workings were confidential. As of this week, Samsung’s testers were still unable to reproduce the explosions.

I wonder how reliable is that inside information.
Just wondering who here is keeping the note 7 and taking the risk of it exploding? I'm happy to keep mine though little annoyed that they've stopped gear VR support and I'm 80% certain Samsung will eventually force us all to return the note 7 by maybe a software update that renders the phone useless.
I honestly have no idea what phone I'd get, I had the S7 edge as a temporary replacement phone while the recall was going on and it didn't feel as good as the note 7, the software wasn't as good and I missed the little features like the swipe gesture in the camera app for example. I still have my note 4 but it uses a different sim card so will have to get an adaptor but even then the note 4 seems really out dated in comparison but I get to keep the S-pen which is the biggest reason I got a note device in the first place. I also have a gear s2 smart watch and while it should work with other android phones it's just works better with a Samsung phone. I hope Samsung do something quick maybe release a note 8 and replace the note 7s with it lol there's just no alternatives.
What are you doing with your note 7?

Hanging on to it for as long as I possibly can. If the deadline for a replacement or refund is midnight on 31st December, I'll hand it in on 31st December.
Is a p**s take though like what about people who've brought cases for the note 7 and other accessories? I purchased my gear vr from ebay for £80 as the seller had it with the note 7 but didn't want it and I couldn't seem to find it anywhere online or in shops probably due to the recall. I had the S7 edge at the time so could still use it but now they've cut off note 7 support so I no longer can use my gear VR so I'd at least like to know exactly what's going on so I can possibly see about selling it. Add on top the money I've spent on apps which I can no long use on the gear VR it's just ridiculous. I personally wouldn't mind waiting through another recall as long as I get to keep and use the note 7 I have then just swap it for a new and hopefully completely safe note 7 but looks like the note 7 is done for.
I'm keeping mine. I will treasure it even more now knowing once it's gone, it's gone forever. Now I need to figure out a way getting rid of the 60% charging cap. I love this phone so much!

If I change the build.prop file, do you reckon I can trick the oculus app into thinking it's an S7 edge not a note 7?? I used it on the gear vr before the update and it seemed to work okay without getting stupidly hot even had it on charge lol.

If not today, give it some time. This is still breaking news and info. hasn't flown down yet.
I did notice in my VZW account that my Note 7 now says "Upgrade Eligible". This wasn't there yesterday. Something on the back end happened.
At minimum, I'm going to deactivate this device and put an old phone on the account for now.
TMO has offered to exchange me out of this POS. But as others have said, there is nothing out there right now to really hold it down. So my question is this, Nougat won't be released for the N7 I suppose, what is the true lifespan of the phone with updates not being released for it? And of course, there is the explosion possibility?

And of course, there is the explosion possibility?

Personally - and you have to make up your own mind on this - I am not even 0.000000000001 % bothered about the "explosion risk". You have about as much chance of winning Euromillions tonight, and in my view, that is no basis to reject a piece of equipment.
The lack of updates and also dismal resale value is much more concerning.
But worse than any of that, I think Samsung will send out an update that cripples the phone. They did it with Rev.1. so I have no reason to assume they won't do the same with Rev.2. Your choice to keep it may very well be taken out of your hands, which personally, I think is disgusting.

Yeah, I'm back on my OG HTC One, lol. So far 1 hour on the phone with Samsung and everyone is clueless. About to hang up and just hit VZW again in a day or two. I have to say, though, it's irritating to be paying on a device that is powered down and not activated on my line (Edge financing).
Time to cut loses. Thats what samsung did. The phone hase become a liability. Get your money back if you can.

Why don't you just use it? Seriously there's been like 8 with problems out of what, 2 million, 3 million? Seriously you have more chance of being run over than having a problem with the device.
The thing with statistics is they can be unintuitive and lead to strange conclusions. Let's say one phone in every 500,000 is going to develop a fault and catch fire. From Samsung's perspective, that means they can be certain they will have lots of unhappy customers, potential lawsuits and bad publicity and therefore it's a bit of a no-brainer to stop selling it.
But from your perspective, you have a 500,000:1 on chance that your phone will have no problems. And in the remotely unlikely event that it does, how likely is it to kill you, burn your house down or anything like that. Even less likely. There are ZERO such reports.
So it's up to you, but for me, it's a no brainer to keep using it, and I hope Samsung will respect that point of view and not cripple our phones with some unnecessary and unwanted forced update.

Yeah I agree I'm not so much concerned about the explosion risk but just the lack of support and updates in the future. Wish they'd just let us take the risk I for one wouldn't sue Samsung if my note 7 does explode there's little chance that you haven't heard about the issues from somewhere therefore it's not Samsung's fault that I took the risk.
What did samsung do with the phone after they recalled it, if they didn't fix the issue?
Samsung UK web site has no mention of recall for v2.
Doing nothing until Samsung (who I bought it from) contact me. Even then it won't be going back until it's knocked out by Samsung.

Indeed. Just looking it up now, you are 500 times more likely to die from riding a motorbike than you are to have a fire with your Note 7. (Assuming 1 phone per 500,000 has a problem.)
best buy exchanged mine out with no questions asked. I was told to even keep the 256GB SD card. unfortunate I went to the dark side and got iphone7 plus. The LG was just cheap and I was unimpressed. Buying the Google Pixel XL outright to bring over to Sprint was not a option for me. I am done with Sammy with all the issues I have had with there products since the Note 4 and other house hold appliances. Iphone was my only option.
So, drop my Note 4 and broke the screen. No problem. I upgraded to the Note 7 (preordered). Loved it. Then the first recall. Exchange the phone and mere days later comes the 2nd recall. Love the note so I send in my Note 4 to Samsung to get it repaired since there is no new Note to upgrade to. Did I mention that I love the Note? After 4 days I get notified (by checking the status of the ticket) that all out-of-warranty repairs have been suspended by Samsung and they are sending my note 4 back to me unrepaired. They could have told me that before I spent the time to send it in. Now I'm waiting on them to get it back to me so I can find some third party who can fix the screen for me.
I've been faithful to Samsung for many years (TV, tablet, refrigerator, and many phones) but this recent string of events has me wondering where I'll go next. Sadly, there are no other "notes" out there other than Samsung.
Get your act together Samsung!!! You are losing a lot of customers right now.
Thanks for letting me rant...
I love the Note also. Been waiting a long time for one to meet my feature list demand, this one was it, still miss the IR blaster, but I'm holding strong, keeping my N7 until I see something better drop.

I have a Note 4 with a tan banding creeping in on the display. Sure, I can use it, but after using an N7 for almost 2 months.... the Note 4 feels like a commodore 64. I don't want to go to an S7 edge just to get by, but it is the closest available phone to the N7 made. Trying to decide if I should be patient and live with my aging N4 or just get an S7 edge until Samsung comes out with a Note 8 (or whatever they might call it).
Get a new note 5 or note 4? But which is better?

That was the real point of my "rant". I have a note 4 with a broken screen. I sent it in to Samsung to get it fixed so I could revert back to using it. They received it and then sent it back to me UNREPAIRED, saying that all out-of warranty repairs have been suspended by Samsung as of Sept 30 I believe. I had given them my CC number for the charges and everything. They could have told me this before I sent it in since they knew at that time it was out-of-warranty. Luckily, I found a local store here that does repairs. I'll get it fixed there and use my note 4 until I decide what phone I want next. Nothing on the market interests me right now.
Feel your pain.. Had a note 4, after got note 7. Have note 4 to a friend(he gets my old notes) so I hate to ask for it back. Now I'm stuck down down grading top my note 3.. Such a big difference in technology...feels real backwards.. Did I say last time I used it we were on safe strap, 4.4.2

I sent my s6 active back in for a screen replacement. It broke in a situation it should not have but I did not raise a fuss and approved the $237 repair. Well they charged me the $237 and sent it back to me unrepaired with the same note you got. So not only can my phone not be fixed now I have to try and get the charge reversed. I will never purchase any Samsung product ever again.

Note 3 now has an unlocked bootloader with TWRP available and JasmineROM v6.1 (Android v5.0). I was on a Note 3 before upgrading because the Note 4&5 just didn't impress me. I sold my old Perfect condition Note 3 on eBay which I had unlocked using the method which converts it to a Developer Edition. If I have to return the Note 7 I'm going to just have to activate an old Note 3 with a cracked screen that I put together out of spare parts and performed the same Developer Edition MOD. I'm waiting until the last possible date to return because I don't plan to upgrade again until whatever replaces the Note 7 arrives. Such a shame as this was pretty much perfect with root available almost on day one.

Well, at least they didn't actually charge me. Wonder how long this repair halt is going to take place. I took my Note 4 to a local shop and now even they are saying it will be another month before they can get the screen because they are backordered. The saga continues...
