I just moved to an AT&T S3 having previously used a Sprint S3. The issue I am having on the AT&T S3 was not present on the Sprint device.
I utilize the ADW EX launcher, and have set it as my default home launcher. When I back out of the Gmail application, it goes to the Samsung OEM launcher instead of the ADW launcher. I have to press the home button to return to ADW.
Gmail is the only application where I have noticed this happening, unfortunately I use Gmail quite a bit, and every time it gets a bit more frustrating.
Thanks in advance.
Dave
I'm going to say don't use adw because it's very old and and unsupported, it may not even be fully compatible with ICS.

Glad you fixed it, though I'd prefer to run a more modern launcher and the latest and greatest version of Gmail rather than a launcher that hasn't been updated since 2010 and an out-of-date Gmail.
There are a lot of great launchers out there that are updated very frequently, with very reasonably featured free versions.
Hi all,
I have jumped on the Amazon Fire Phone. I'm already a prime member, using an old LG P930 with Cyanogenmod, but as you can imagine the hardware is a bit old. For $100.00 (since I'm already a prime member the extra year of Prime would have been purchased anyways) this phone was a no brainier for me. My question is, what launcher are you guys running? The Nova launcher works well, but gives an error when installing widgets. Trebuchet fails to launch unfortunately. So far my favorite launcher is Cheetah Launcher by CC Launcher. Everything works, it's clean, and allows the use of my widgets. (Pandora and 1 weather is a must for me). Swiping up to go back works just fine. The only thing I don't like is you don't get notifications of emails or messages in the dock. Also, the default AOS status bar seems a bit weak. It notifies you and the notification goes away. I have been seeing something, wanting to grab it later, and then forget. :|
Anyone else got any launcher or good apps that go well with them to make it more user friendly? I'm very impressed what a simple launcher and side loading apps will give you with this device with out downgrading it or rooting it.

I've tried nova launcher and Doodol launcher. They both seem to work with the exception of wallpapers
Anyone have any idea of what needs done to get wallpapers working?
On 3.5.0 wallpapers only work with root (xposed tweak)
Yahoo Aviate works well with sll of their built in wallpapers (no widgets work, and you can't select a picture from your gallery though)
Buzz Launcher works with wallpaper support (including your own images). No widgets work though.
I tried a bunch of launchers today and those two are the best so far
So annoying that widgets didn't work on Nova, which has always been our preference, so I set up GEL on wife's new phone. So far she's ok with it, except for being confused how to get out of the Google Now panel (she thought it was an app and was trying to swipe up to get "back" not realizing it was just the left most panel of the launcher).
One thing I did try to set up also that isn't working is Pie Control. It worked for a little bit when first loaded, but subsequent attempts to activate it haven't been successful. I suspect the swipe-in capabilities are hi-jacked by the Fire OS.
Another annoyance is the inability to make direct-dial shortcuts.
I installed, or attempted to install the GNL and wasn't successful. I'll give it a go again. I think I remember the install took, but it wouldn't open the launcher. Still, if looking around, check out that Cheetah Launcher. It just doesn't give notifications in the dock.
Speaking of notifications, does anyone know of a good notification bar? The stock bar on this phone doesn't show an icon that there is a pending kik message, voicemail, text, etc.

So I installed the Google Now Launcher .apk again. It then stated I needed google search. Downloaded that .apk. It told me to clear my launcher defaults, I did, but Google Now Launcher isn't an option in the launcher selection. Any idea?
Never mind. I restarted the phone and is good to go. I seem to like the Cheetah Launcher much better so far!
I use Vire Launcher. Its built in wallpapers work perfectly and all widgets work and can be resized. It also has some cool effects.
tried vire launcher and dodol launcher. neither launcher seems to update my missed call count or text messages count properly. ie always showing missed calls.
anybody having this issue as well, or know of a fix?

I've installed a few launchers, okay - a lot of launchers. Below are the ones that I found that give the count of SMS, missed calls, etc.
- Nine Launcher (not a huge fan)
- C Launcher Lite (not bad - not very customizable)
- Solo Launcher (pretty slick - but outside widget support doesn't work)
I'm currently on the hunt for a good status bar or notifier.
The Google Now Launcher seems to work very well without any lag. Its very light weight although not very customizable. So far it seems to be a good place to start until other launchers become more compatible. I added the dashclock widget to the homescreen, with better weather addon, plus the other alerts I need and this seems a complete setup right now that matches my Nexus 4 setup.

Drag one icon and drop onto another icon. This creates a folder that you can then name.
GoLauncher Ex

Thanks, but this is only working at the home screen, not in the apps menu.
Is it working for you in Apps menu as well? Let me know i have tried 100 times, and soon as i try to drag 1 icon it takes me to the home screen,.

I don't think you can make folders on the apps menu. I don't seem to be able to on my Nexus 4 with its stock launcher, so its no surprise you cant do it in the Google launcher we are loading.
Thanks for this question though. I thought the launcher was limited to 3 pages but I found that you can create more empty pages by long pressing the home screen and moving the existing side pages to one side of the home page, then dragging icons to the side that now has no page to create a new page. I tried simply dragging icons earlier but it would not form a new page until I moved the old page first. Strange process but it works.
Fire Phone Lauchers - Wallpaper and Widgets
Hi All -
I've gone through just about every launcher I can find to find one that both wallpaper and Widgets work on... With no luck.
Buzz Launcher has wallpaper working, a number of launchers have widgets working, but none with both...
Has anyone else had any luck with both? Do we know what makes one or the other not work? Would rolling back to older versions of some of these launchers (pre-lollipop and kitkat) work?
Thoughts? Help? Suggestions?
Thanks!!!
Has anyone tried Action Launcher Pro? I wonder if it gets along with Fire Phone (no root).
I've tried at least 20 different launchers today. The only one that has wallpaper and widgets working is still Vire Launcher.
Anyone using Nova? Having issues with it?
I installed Nova started setting it up, seemingly no issues adding widgets, moving icons, applying theme etc until I try to use the "Messaging" app (Not Message+). Nova says "App isn't installed". I have no issues getting to it via home launcher and the Messaging app works fine. Haven't had any other issues. I cleared app cache and data, tried uninstalling/reinstalling and even did a factory reset since I've had the thing less than 24 hours all to no avail. Any ideas? Anyone else seeing anything similar?
edit: fwiw, it's the Verizon version.
2nd edit: A temporary workaround - To anyone still having this issue I created a workaround using tasker. I just made a task that was "open messaging app" and placed a widget in nova. I set the icon to be the stock messaging app icon and I don't know any different.
I had the same problem. I gave up and stuck with the stock Launcher. I even tried making an activity short cut in Nova and it still said app not installed.
VZW here too.
Same thing on my VZW G4 as well. I tried the Google Now Launcher and the messaging app loaded just fine. I switched back to stock though because the GNL icons were too big.
Very strange but glad to know I'm not alone. I'm using stock now as well, it's really not that bad, just not as customizable. Hopefully it's just a bug that's easily fixed.
Did you do any kinda of restore, works fine on Nova and Tmobile
having this issue as well. going to try to send a bug report to the devs that make nova.
on verizon g4.
Sent a message to nova people.... We will see.

So is Messages+ ok? just another messages app isn't?
I'm also having the same issue with third party launchers. I left a review on Nova. I don't like Verizon's messaging app. I prefer the stock SMS app.
Remove non-working messaging icon from desktop.
Drag the working messaging icon from the app drawer to the desktop.
Done :good:
Having same issue.
And app doesn't work from App drawer or replacing shortcut on home screen.
Nova does not recognize the LG Messaging app at all.

Any word back, Valkyrie? I'm wondering if they'll just say it's a vzw/LG issue.
Having the same problem on Action Launcher and I think I know what it is related to. I had an LG G3 and used the LG Backup app to backup my old phone and restore it to the G4 when I got it last week. Action Launcher had a shortcut on the desktop and in the drawer to the stock Messaging App on the G3, and so when restored, it is looking for that file rather than the new Messaging app on the G4. Of course the stock LG launcher is all new for the G4 and so its shortcuts were not restored from my old backup and so they still work. In fact, if I install a new launcher I've never used it works fine (I just installed Go Launcher and it works) because I'm not restoring data. However, both launchers I previously had on my G3 (Action and Nova ) have this problem. I'd bet that everyone with this problem restored their phone or just their launcher from a backup somehow. I'd bet that if I could somehow remove and reinstall the stock messaging app it might work again, but how could you do that without root? Anyone more knowledgeable than me have a thought about that?
No restore here. Brand new phone and clean installs from play store for the apps. I formatted the sd card so there isnt even any old data on there. I think it's something else. Someone else said they were able to get it to work with go launcher as well.
just to chime in i have the same problem, I got around to fully setting up my device and i use google messenger and it works fine, yet still the LG messaging app still doesn't work. Verizon version here as well.
Please help, I don't have the stock Pixel 3 launcher installed or something anymore ?
Ok, I rooted my 3 XL last week, all working well, but I have done a ton of tweaks here and there, tried different launchers, uninstalled them, then go back to them, etc... Nova always being my main, but I wanted to go lightweight and stay stock, but stock doesn't allow swiping down on the screen to pull the notification shade down, whereas every launcher has that most basic option baked in, it blows my mind Google doesn't have that as default yet, but anyways.
I tried Rootless Pixel launcher with Magisk, but then there's also Rootless launcher on the Play Store. But they need you to install that companion app or bridge or something to get the Google Now Feed on the left panel, which I did, and all good.
But the way Swift Dark themes work, I didn't like any of the launcher's Google Now Feed panel, I only like the stock stock Pixel 3 launcher the phone comes with by default, it's more up to date looking, or better, than the outdated looking ones that come with Rootless Pixel launcher which is only 3.7 on Magisk, and like 3.9 on Play Store or something ?
Anyways, I uninstalled Rootless Pixel Launcher, and rebooted, and then the phone freaked out upon restarting, immediate stating some error " At the top of your All Apps list " keeps flashing and I it only goes to this setting screen, pressing home button does nothing.
I rebooted several times, tried a bunch of things, and somehow was able to get my to my web browser luckily, and did a quick install of "lean launcher" to get something going. I rebooted and I have Lean Launcher as my main and only launcher now, all working well. But I don't really want this launcher on, as it's a major battery hog and system hog. In Developer Settings, Running Services Lean is always at like 400mb, and in Battery settings Lean is usually at the top of the list. This is based on my Pixel 2 XL using Lean Launcher before, it works great, and is smooth, but for some reason it was always a battery hog.
So if I uninstall Lean Launcher, I get that same error again, and only options listed in the Default apps - Home app - two options "At the top of your All Apps list" or Lean Launcher, which is selected now.
My battery life sucks all of a sudden.
Unplug this morning 100% charge. I'm on home WiFi, I surf the web while eating breakfast, then do my workout in my basement, listening to YouTube Music. Took a short phone call, did some texts.
Battery life down to 66% now, after about 2.5 hours of use.
I think maybe it's Lean Launcher ? But in Running Services it shows only 2%. I just wish I could go back to the stock default launcher the phone came with. Bit it seems to have been wiped away or something.
At this point I'm ready to do a factory reset, but I'm rooted, and out in the field today no computer. So not even sure if possible to reset while rooted and have the phone go back to everything default ?
For the moment grab a different launcher, Nova, Action, Evie, are three I know are not too bad on batt. Once you've got something else, uninstall lean, I haven't used it but it sounds like you've got something hashed with it in at least the current installation.
Lean Launcher is really good, it's like the stock Pixel launcher, just more options. It's super smooth.
But I'm worried it's a battery hog ? Any know if it's known to be ?
If I went ahead to do a factory reset, but I'm rooted. Will the phone do a full system reset, and start over fresh with the original stock launcher ? Or does being rooted mess that up and not work ?
So I had some app updates in the Play Store, and one of the apps that had an update ready as the Pixel Launcher. I was surprised to see that, and when going to the Read More section it showed latest update Apr 17, 2017.
Anyways I updated, and then went back to Default apps, and now finally I see both options. Lean Launcher and Pixel Launcher. Whereas before it was just showing me Lean Launcher and At the top of your All Apps.
Hmm, enabling Pixel Launcher now looks weird. It's some old school like Pixel 1 style. Version # 7.1.1-3862848. Why would the Play Store update me to an older launcher version ? Oh well, guess back to Lean Launcher for now.

Had exactly the same issue with Pixel 1.
Replacing "NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk" in module zip with the original apk from system image and reinstalling module did the trick.
And now magisk replaces my original NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk in /system/priv-app with the same original NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk and everything works fine, but if i disable the module i get this error again...
What fixed it for me
I had this exact same issue on my Pixel XL (1st Gen rooted with Android 9.0) and did the same install of the Rootless Pixel XL Launcher. I did end up getting the spam of "At the top of your All Apps list". My fix was to download the original pixel launcher from the google play, then uninstall the updates to it, to which it would revert back to the stock pixel launcher, but after each restart it'd go back to the "at the top of your All Apps List" problem, so I used Titanium Backup to make a backup of the app (after updating & uninstalling updates to the pixel launcher from the google play), and I restarted the phone, ran titanium backup, restored the app (make sure you restore it as Pixel Launcher and it'll show back up as At the top of your All Apps List when you go to restore it), and I've had the stock launcher with no other issues since.
I know it's an old thread but I just solved for me on Pixel 3 XL
So, first I deleted the original Pixel launcher with root and Total Commander but didn't help at all. Lean Launcher (apk) installed, all OK but still I can not install Glance module since somehow, the Pixel Launcher is still active even if I deleted ....and do not appear on Apps tab. The main reason is Pixel Launcher have a name, and without this particular name, the Glance function doesn't work on Pixel. So, Glance module MUST have THAT name And, you can not install it with Pixel Launcher installed... (bad Google!)
Ok, after that, I reinstalled Pixel Launcher from Gplay, go in Apps, unistalled from there and voila! Glance worked and now I have the full Lean Launcher working. Ofcourse, you will have an update on Gplay for Pixel Launcher, but just make sure you cut out auto update for it and all OK.
Now I really enjoy my Pixel 3 XL without that stupid search bar on my screen and with more options from Lean Launcher!
Hyperion launcher is snappy as hell! Its a new launcher made by the dev or devs of substratum. So i trust it and i like. Give it a whirl!
So after some time I decided to go with the 12.5 GLOBAL update which then gave me immediate problems like apps not rendering at all, general UI hanging, lagging or not responding, black wallpaper and lock screen and change of launcher.
So I re-enabled and re-installed most apps from Xiaomi adb/fastboot tool and most problems are now gone away.
But Nova Launcher which is the launcher I used mainly before update is nowhere to be seen. It was not to be seen in the home screen selection screen when hitting the home button, or via settings (while other launchers I installed were to be shown) and not even on the apps list. Trying to reinstall from Google Play show a message which says google play cannot install Nova Launcher. Trying to sideload APKs of several versions did not work either.
Anyone else experience this problem ? is it Xiaomi that decided to block this specific launcher ?
