HTC ONE M9 Still on Android 5.0.2 - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
My phone is still on Android 5.0.2 while everyone else's seems to have upgraded to Android 6 by now.
I have gone into software upgrade and it says "There are no updates available for your phone."
The phone isn't rooted.
Do you guys have any advice on how I can get upgraded to the latest software please?
Thanks
Mark

Give more details. What is your software number? What is yoyr cid and mid number? Boot into download mode and give info here.

Hi there,
Thanks for your quick reply.
Sorry for the delayed reply, I was figuring out how to get the MID and CID which is what took a while!
Here's the info:
Software number: 1.32.401.17
CID: HTC__001
MID: (BLANK)
The weird thing is the MID is blank.
Also I noticed, while in the Fastboot menu obtaining this information for you, it said:
*** Software status: Official ***
*** LOCKED ***
*** S-OFF ***
I suspect this could mean that the person who owned the phone before me had rooted and tried to return it to stock, but didn't get S-ON

Being s-off is nice. Back up everything.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24421527759889369
Download this and rename it 0PJAIMG.zip. copy it to fat-32 formatted sd card. Boot into download mode and press volup. Follow instructions.
But i cant understand why your mid is empty

Thanks! I'll have a go when I'm home.
Will this wipe my device?

yes this wipe everything.

Hey buddy, doing so, will unroot the device?? And this firmware works for all variants on m9 devices??

my opinion about Marshmallow android version is too much battery consumption,
while in deep sleep its still consumption about 5%/hour

What will you do with unlocked zip? This zip is good. Use this. If you are not s-off relock bootloader and install it via download mode

As already written in the other thread, it's not recommended to flash GSM RUUs on a CDMA device unless someone needs a new paperweight.
(Just a sidenote: Please don't ask more or less the same question in several threads. It's considered as rude behavior on xda. Besides, it only makes it harder to help if you need to follow two threads with the same topic but different users who want to help.)

yea well depends... a 401 firmware did previously work for you? The new 401 firmware should then work too.
Looking at my error code list i see an error 23 which is a zip error and another close number which is also a close number and also a zip error.
I suppose there was an issue with the firmware zip you flashed. Did you verify the MD5 hash before you flashed it?
It might have been damaged during download and the zip wasn't actually flashed?
I suggest you choose the ZIP flash method and manually reflash it, then post the console window content here. It will tell me which images got flashed and what error occured (maybe). If there was no error, it means the new radio probably just doesnt work for you or the ROM and Carrier combination or something like that....
anyhow... without knowing exactly what happened, it can not be diagnosed properly.

thanks. the 2.22.401 did work for me but the new 3.x.401 update after i flashed, caused (maybe) the no signal problem. i already dealed with the error 23 problem but unfortunately, as i mentioned, the signal was gone. all the method i used for flashing was fastboot. i already tried to revert to the stock rom and stock recovery that matched the original cid. what i noticed was the imei was unknown. tried to fix it but i guessed i just bricked my phone. now it is not turning on . i don't know if there is another way to unbrick it other than using jtag.

Try holding down the power button+vol. up for 20 seconds and see if your phone boots up. Doing this is the equivalent of a battery pull.

Hello sir, in order to use my firmware you'll need to S-OFF first.
As stated in post #1, this is not for S-ON users.

No mate. All i know is it contains a fix for croatia. Its been rolled out to other countries too though, so i made FUU's and ZIP's because i guess there are more fixes in there. Just don't know what yet.
This was a totally blind update. Tested, yes, but not taken apart and looked at like i usually do. I have NO clue whats inside. Only thing i checked is Recovery and whether or not it was updated. Yes it was.
Anyhow, HTC often doesn't do much more like build date changes. Sometimes, hboots or recoveries get pushed out that are just newer, but not changed.
They have a streamlined building process and if they update one major thing, they often just automatically build a RUU or OTA Firmware and all files get new build date stamps. At least that is what i have seen occasionally in the past. Files that are 100% identical in hex view except the file header that contains the creation date.

TWRP is custom recovery. You need stock recovery to install an OTA. Find the right stock recovery for your CID and stock software number here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

I won't know.... What CID do you have? Mr Hofs asked this previously and I'm yet to see anything from your side. If you're on International WWE then the update is not yet out for your device. If you have Asian WWE then the update *might* be out for your device, either way we won't know. Share some info on what device you have.
In the first post you mentioned you received the OTA for your device... If you don't get it now then try to do a factory reset and see if you can get it afterwards. Though it would still help a lot to know what device you have. So get adb on your PC and in bootloader mode use the command: fastboot getvar all and share the info, just delete the IMEI and Serial number.

Sprint device? Didn't think you'd have a Sprint one, thought you were from the Ukraine going by your flag choice etc.
Either way, 4.4.4 is the latest for Sprint devices, the Lollipop update is still in 2(Integration) stage so it has some ways to go still before lollipop.

Well it looks like you've been getting OTA updates so far, so you should be able to get it when Lollipop is released, whenever that is.
Sprint - CDMA device (Verizon as well).
Other M8s - GSM Devices.
You can look up the main differences between the two with a quick google search.
It's American device yes. It would perhaps have been better if they had the Developer Edition or Unlocked Edition from the US instead of a carrier specific(Sprint) device which runs on different technologies(Radios) for their networks. Generally you won't be able to us a CDMA device "just anywhere" where as GSM is Global. Like I said though, you can get the whole explanation with a simple Google search though.
yes i have been getting OTA update. Patience or custom rom .
I can wait for it I think .
And i dont know my device is unlocked edition or developer edition but i use my phone normally i put a nano sim and the network works very well.
I have searched it and get the main idea thank your very much

Since my last post I have found out that my phone is actually a german phone. So it won't update because it's on a UK network trying to download a german update which is why I get the network connection failed error. I have downloaded the tool kit to try and root it but when I go to get token ID some of the code is protected so I can't see the CID number or the mid number.

Ok so where do I go from here?
Hi Guys,
I have a very similar problem, maybe you have an idea how to fix it. I bought an Austrian HTC M8 and since Lollipop I couldn't OTA update it. I had it for a long time, but never had the time to figure out why it can't update. Turns out, the previous owner had the bootloader opened (I have talked with HTC support and they checked).
I've written down all sorts of information needed, but long story short, I run full stock software (haven't even rooted it). Can you give me any suggestion how to get it to update?
Thank you in advance, I would really appreciate any help.
(Btw, I've been a long forum follower [like Samsung Omina with cooked Froyo old], but I have successfully outlocked myself from my old account - deleted my email account, to which it was linked to.)

Htc one m9 bricked-any solutions?

Hello, everyone. I have a bricked HTC one M9 which for the last 2 days I tried to fix. It has locked bootloader, S-on, download mode does not work, recovery mod simply takes me to a red triangle. I tried a lot of methods, RUU.exe will not work(error 155) I can connect it to pc but it is not identified by ADB as a device, just by PC, even though I tried to instal an adb driver. any solutions? Thanks in advance.

No custom recovery. I don't know how to do it. Also to mention usb debugging is off

What happens when you attempt to boot into download mode (PWR+VOLDWN)? Do you get any sort of error message?
Download mode is going to be key, as it sounds like the SD card method of applying a RUU is the way to go.

Well since I put the ruu in the link on sd it starts automatically asking me if I want to install. It failed because it has mismatched so I probably need a different version. So if I am not wrong it works. Maybe it is about the correct version or still something else?

Putting it on the SD card is the method that worked for me. You have to have a custom recovery I prefer TWRP. Download the correct RUU and put it on the root of your SD card using TWRP then your phone should recognize in download mode and you can flash it.

That's great, actually. You've got a properly functioning download mode - you just tried to apply the wrong RUU.
Delete that file from your SD card and boot into download mode again. We'll need your OS version in order to identify the proper SKU of your device. With any luck, there will be a RUU available to use.

FYI, the OS version is listed in the download mode screen in the red text, the line above the date. Please post the complete version number.

Nice - thank you. From this, we can see that your SKU is 401. Now you can go to the Readme thread in this forum, scroll to the post that talks about RUUs and find the section that has a list of RUU files for your SKU. There is an RUU you can use - it is the 3.35.401.12 version. The other versions won't work because they are too much lower than the one you're currently using.
Please take the time to read the RUU section of the readme thread so that you're comfortable with the process. But all things being equal, this should restore your phone to stock. Recall that it will wipe your internal memory.

That's only the model ID, though it's correct, for what it's worth. The next and equally important piece of information is the CID, which is matched to your SKU.
When you chose a download link, which SKU section did you choose?

1.40.401.8
Other versions are :1.32.401.8
1.32.401.15
2.10.401.1
3.35.401.12
Also, good choice! So you're in the right SKU section.
If you'll indulge me, it might be helpful to know the full error message.

Ah. There's your problem. You will ONLY be able to successfully apply RUU 3.35.401.12, because the others are older than your phone is currently using.
Not to be a nag, but this is why it is important to read the readme so that you have a clear idea of what you're doing. This very issue - using your own SKU as an example - is explained in the post that included the download link.

Downgrade Verizon HTC 10 from 8.0 to 7.0

Is it possible to downgrade HTC 10 (Verizon) from 8.0 to 7.0 with S-on? The GPS stops working after I updated from 7.0 to 8.0. So, I want to learn how to roll back to 7.0. Thanks in advance.

I think you need an unlocked bootloader/twrp to perform that procedure, no? And his Verizon variant can't have its bootloader unlocked, only s-off.
OP, why don't you try running the Oreo ruu for Verizon? I don't think a broken GPS is a known issue for the Verizon variant of Oreo, so a fresh ruu might help you troubleshoot the issue. You can find it on the Verizon 10 forum on xda.

Tamira, does "running Oreo ruu for Verizon" means flash it with the ruu stock oreo of Verizon found in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-10/how-to/verizon-official-ruu-1-19-605-9-t3377586?

That's correct, sir.
Obviously it'll wipe your phone completely, so back up what you need first.

Is the phone needs to be rooted while s-on with bootloader locked?
Which RUU should I choose among those listed below?

None of the above as they are firmwares, you need the ruu.

Thanks, Mr. Hofs. I was able to flash the RUU you recommended without any problem with unrooted, S-on and locked bootloader. The process is exactly as Tamira instructed:
Download the zip
Rename to 2PS6IMG.ZIP
Copy it to the root of your SD card
Boot to download mode (hold down and power upon boot)
Follow on screen prompt
However, the GPS problem is still there. From the threads I read, I can't do the same for the older RUU to go back down to Nougat unless I root the phone and have bootloader unlocked? Will I brick the phone if I attempt the flash the RUU for Nougat?

Nougat isn't going to change anything for you.
If GPS isn't working after flashing the Oreo RUU and making sure that all location settings are on, then you have a hardware issue.
Changing software to an older version, won't fix hardware.

No worries, but if you insist to downgrade you need to send your phone to the sunshine team to make it s-off.

Going back to Nougat seems to be unnecessary at this point. Thanks to all again. I at least finally was able to flash the phone although there are many things to learn such as rooting, unlocking boodloader, s-off
