Hello, everyone. I have a bricked HTC one M9 which for the last 2 days I tried to fix. It has locked bootloader, S-on, download mode does not work, recovery mod simply takes me to a red triangle. I tried a lot of methods, RUU.exe will not work(error 155) I can connect it to pc but it is not identified by ADB as a device, just by PC, even though I tried to instal an adb driver. any solutions? Thanks in advance.

What happens when you attempt to boot into download mode (PWR+VOLDWN)? Do you get any sort of error message?
Download mode is going to be key, as it sounds like the SD card method of applying a RUU is the way to go.

Well since I put the ruu in the link on sd it starts automatically asking me if I want to install. It failed because it has mismatched so I probably need a different version. So if I am not wrong it works. Maybe it is about the correct version or still something else?

Putting it on the SD card is the method that worked for me. You have to have a custom recovery I prefer TWRP. Download the correct RUU and put it on the root of your SD card using TWRP then your phone should recognize in download mode and you can flash it.

That's great, actually. You've got a properly functioning download mode - you just tried to apply the wrong RUU.
Delete that file from your SD card and boot into download mode again. We'll need your OS version in order to identify the proper SKU of your device. With any luck, there will be a RUU available to use.

Nice - thank you. From this, we can see that your SKU is 401. Now you can go to the Readme thread in this forum, scroll to the post that talks about RUUs and find the section that has a list of RUU files for your SKU. There is an RUU you can use - it is the 3.35.401.12 version. The other versions won't work because they are too much lower than the one you're currently using.
Please take the time to read the RUU section of the readme thread so that you're comfortable with the process. But all things being equal, this should restore your phone to stock. Recall that it will wipe your internal memory.

That's only the model ID, though it's correct, for what it's worth. The next and equally important piece of information is the CID, which is matched to your SKU.
When you chose a download link, which SKU section did you choose?

Ah. There's your problem. You will ONLY be able to successfully apply RUU 3.35.401.12, because the others are older than your phone is currently using.
Not to be a nag, but this is why it is important to read the readme so that you have a clear idea of what you're doing. This very issue - using your own SKU as an example - is explained in the post that included the download link.

The title basically says it all but I'll describe what I did so hopefully you guys can help.
Today I got tired of the ROM I was running and I figured I'd update my firmware before I flashed a new one just cause I hadn't done it in months. So I went and followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696282
I used this firmware: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=32788
My CID is T-MOB010 just like the firmware's and I thought it would be a pretty simple thing, so I got to work.
First I rebooted to fastboot USB and did fastboot getvar all to make sure everything lined up, then I relocked the bootloader and did fastboot oem rebootRUU, all successfully.
Then I flashed the firmware and it all went great but I forgot to flash it a second time. I'm not sure if it's required, but anyway...
After it flashed successfully I did a fastboot reboot and my phone tried to reboot but it stalled on the white HTC splash screen, then went black, then the splash screen returned, then black, then it went into the stock recovery.
The stock recovery functions just fine and I attempted to just clear the cache and reboot but it did the exact same thing.
I don't currently have a stock Nandroid or RUU on my phone and I'm not even sure I have a way to get one on there besides using someone else's phone to put one on my SD.
Can anyone help me out? Is it even possible to get out of this? My bootloader is relocked and my phone can't get S-OFF (tried awhile ago multiple times). As of now I am all out of ideas/experience so I'm hoping you guys can help me. Thank you!!
UPDATE: I got myself into the HBOOT so I think I should be good now but I'll keep this around just in case.
Update: Once I got into hboot all was well, I just flashed TWRP again and got it going. Thanks everyone for the help!
Did you get it going again?

Just use the official RUU.exe which runs from a PC (with phone connected), not from the phone.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-t-mobile/news/
RUU will also update your firmware.
Also, the firmware you linked is not the latest. Its the Android 4.4.4 firmware. The 5.0 (Lollipop) firmware would be 4.20.531.4

Its not what your top post says, so its not clear whether you were trying to put the RUU.exe on the phone (which is incorrect), unsuccessful in putting on the phone or running an RUU.zip, or did the latter in addition to trying to run the RUU.exe from the PC (which was not originally mentioned). If the last one didn't work, it would help to have more details on failure mode, error messages, etc.

Same kinda problem.
I'm stuck in bootloader.
Any key I just brings me back to this again.
Even in HBOOT selecting Recovery or Factory reset does nothing other than bring up this screen.
Powering down and then on again has the same result.
I was trying to get back to stock. Typed in fastboot oem lock and after that... the problem started!!
Any ideas??

This is intentional. When you relock the bootloader, it renders the phone unbootable and expects the RUU to be run.

You shouldn't be assuming what RUU to run. What is your CID and hboot number? What RUU did you try to run?
HBOOT is 3.19.0.0000 CID, can't find.
RUU is M8_4.16.401.10_Europe.exe

The OS number (3.32.206.9) shown on your hboot screen (pic in your top post) indicates that is not the right RUU. The number in the x.xx.206.x is carrier specific, and seems to indicate that your phone is the O2 UK version. Running an RUU with version x.xx.401.x won't work. The number in the "401" spot would need to "206" for it to be the right RUU.
Not sure, but I don't think your CID has RUUs. If that is the case, your best bet it to unlock the bootloader again, flash TWRP back to the phone, and restore a nandroid with your software number (3.32.206.9) if you can find it. Then flash stock recovery back to the phone. That is as close to "stock" as you will get, if there is no RUU for your CID version.

Thanks redpoint73. Looks like that's the only way to go!!
By looking at the radio, you need the Euro Version RUU. Looks like we gotta be detectives sometimes, lol.
Ok, I've unlocked the bootloader and am back to where it was.
It's running 5.0.1, Sense 6.0 and Android Revolution HD 34.6 by mike1986
I would like to clear that off and get back to stock with OTT updates.
Revolution HD 34.6 seems to use an awful lot of data. My other M8 has stock on-board, has identical apps etc and doesn't use nearly as much data as this one!!
Any further ideas??

What hack14u neglected to mention, is that to run another version's RUU, you need s-off ($25 by sunshine), and then you need to change your MID and CID.
Relocking the bootloader (to run RUU) renders the phone with no OS, this is by design.

Hang in there, modding phones can often be an exercise in frustration. But the phone is quite recoverable, as long as you perform the correct steps.
A nandroid is not a flashable zip (such as a ROM). It needs to be restored in a very different way, its described in Post 3 of the stock nandroid thread (assuming that is where you go it from) under Question & Answers.
To summarize, you need to:
1) Unpack the zipk, which is a number of folders
2) Move the folders to the proper location on the phone's internal storage (removable SD is also possible, if you setup TWRP to back and restore to that location)
The exact location if very important (its described in Post 3 of the stock nandroid thread), since when restoring a nandroid, TWRP will not see the file to restore if you have it wrong. This is in direct contrast to installing a ROM zip, in which TWRP allows you to browse anywhere on the storage to find the file to flash.
3) Choose the menu option to RESTORE, not INSTALL

First of all, flashing a custom ROM will not enable the phone to work on all carriers, as you stated. The ability of the phone to work on different carriers has nothing to do with the ROM.
Secondly, you need to update the firmware to be able to run current ROMs. This might be the cause of your SIM problem, but not sure of that.

And you have been told how to update the firmware.
You were complaining about the Mega download for the stock nandroid. I asked you some questions (that you didn't answer) and gave some suggestions (did you try them?); and now you are off on some other tangent (and likely one that won't work).

Need to make sure he tried to download from the correct thread or not ..
as I mentioned here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63541969&postcount=8
and another possibility is the Mega site is still blocked in India (I know that was the case before). If yes, he needs to use VPN to download from Mega site.

It is carrier branded device - T-Mobile Poland
CID T-MOB009
MID 0P6B10000
( ckpv5 helped me to find out )
i've used the sunshine app,and now my phone is s-off and rooted permanently ( i done the thing with the token given by htc-dev)
You could have continued here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3286905
But if you want the wwe (latest firmware 4.16.401.13) than download that firmware, fastboot flash it twice and install any of the latest roms. Or run the 4.16.401 RUU.
Or if you want the developers edition up to MM then you can go for that firmware.
Edit :
The phone is not rooted permanently, it's unlocked (bootloader) permanently. Root itself is at OS level and is only achieved when you flash a superuser.zip via the custom recovery or install a pre rooted custom rom !
Fine.
A long and excruciating, nested multi-step process awaits:
Fortunately, your MID needs no modification, so without further ado:
1. You need to change your CID from T-MOB009 to HTC__001:
A. Connect your phone to your computer, boot into bootloader, and go to fastboot.
B. Launch adb on your computer and type (note: there are two underscores, and total 8 characters to the CID):
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
C. reboot your phone into bootloader and check out your new CID (adb getvar all).
2. Flash the latest available WWE official RUU (stock android 5.0/Sense 6):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563
3. For best results, from my experience, flash that RUU twice, then let it boot, then do a hard-reset from settings.
4. Get coffee.
5. Set yourself up all over again.
6. Profit

Yes, that is the only way to change CID.
Also, if you use the RUU.exe, you need fastboot interface, which goes hand in hand with adb. However, if you use the RUU zip method (put it right on the phone and boot into bootloader) than you won't need fastboot to do that.
i've done everything and i'm now at the step i try to flash my cell with RUU you've told me.
"RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed"
but problem that has been 30 minutes the status " update" of the wizard with 0/7 update was sent to my phone.
arghh..xd
edit : cid was succesfuly changed to htc__001
Disconnect the phone and try again. This just happens sometimes (its been reported, then works on the subsequent try). Put the phone in bootloader-fastboot mode, if you haven't already tried that.
If it still hangs, you might need to use a different computer. Win7 and USB 2.0 for the best chance of success. RUU is finicky with some computers.

Either:
A. Without canceling the ruu process, go to the root of your C: drive and search for Rom.zip file; copy it to your desktop, and rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (first character is zero, and careful not to rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip.zip). Copy this file to the root of your phone's SD Card. Then, boot your phone into bootloader. Proceed with the on-screen instructions.
Or:
B. Cancel the ruu process, unplug your phone, download & install HTC Sync Manager from HTC's M8 support page. Reboot your PC, plug in your phone and wait until Windows installs the drivers. Start the RUU again and proceed to flashing.
Cheers

The comment wasn't related to your issue (just a side comment). It was in response to Mr Hofs post about his presence on the One X (different phone) forum. The One X (ENDEAVORU) had its chipset supplied by NVIDIA, which created some video issues for that phone.
EDIT: Better description of the NVIDIA issue in shirreer's response below.

That was meant for Mr. Hofs. The One X was HTC's 2012 flagship*(preceeding the One M7). It ran Android ICS & Sense on NVIDIA quadcore Tegra SoC. Unfortunately, HTC couldn't keep it up-to-date (and, eventually, ended its lifecycle prematurely) mainly because NVIDIA failed to provide it with system software and drivers. Next year, HTC went with Qualcomm and never looked back.
And, then...
Aren't you supposed to be focusing on the other thing?!?
I'm currently at loss for what to do now, heres what happened which I think started all these problems
-Was running ICE 5.5.1 stable
-Phone randomly reboots into HTC's white startup screen
-went into TWRP and wiped everything including internal storage
-flashed a new rom hoping it'll stop the reboots, and halfway during the flash the phone reboots itself even before completing
-now stuck with no OS and cant get into recovery

You can flash any 3.xx.708.xx firmware. Only the first and third set of numbers really matter. The second set is incremental version, forth set is times to push to devices.
Bear in mind that your device is rooted and unlocked bootloader so flashing stock isn't an option.

Flashing an RUU is definitely the way to go, and will work just fine as long as your SKU and OS version match with the RUU you're attempting to flash.
Being rooted and/or having an unlocked bootloader will not affect the success/failure of flashing an RUU. Follow the instructions on the readme page and you should be golden.

You've read correctly. You need a 3.xx.708.xx RUU (EDITED: See Flippy498's correction below). It may be possible to get on from a paid repository of firmwares, but I don't have any recommendations there.
While HTC can almost assuredly help you (for a fee), it may be worthwhile to look into the paid service mentioned in the readme thread to see if that is more cost-effective.

No, not only the first and the third number of the firmware version matter for S-ON phones. The X and the SKU in X.XX.SKU.YY need to match between the RUU and the phones current firmware. Only Y is allowed to differ if the phone is S-ON.
And a RUU actually flashes everything back to stock. So this

There is a sticky with all needed information for RUUs: The ReadMe thread. (But as always, if you call something "ReadMe" you can rest assured that no one really reads it...) Flashing RUU.exe files can be a pain (just like using htc_fastboot)*. It's easier to use the SD card method. The ReadMe thread even explains how to get the *.zip out of the *.exe.
* I actually never had issues with them but I faced enough users here on XDA and on Handy-FAQ who just couldn't get them to work.

How about Llabtoofer's RUU service as suggested in the ReadMe thread? Or Easy-Firmware if you prefer to own the RUU? (If you choose the latter make sure not to download a RUU with "combined_signed" in its naming. Those are custom made and only flashable with S-OFF. And don't forget to make it available for others, afterwards. )

Easy-Firmware is usable for S-ON users. You just need to make sure that you don't download a "combined_signed" RUU. The ones with only "signed" should be just fine (e.g. "0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_M60_SENSE70_MR_hTC_Asia_HK_3.42.708.3_Radio_01.01_U11440801_97.04.60111G_F_release_471142_signed_2_4_2.zip" or "0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_M60_SENSE70_MR_hTC_Asia_HK_3.42.708.3_Radio_01.01_U11440801_97.04.60111G_F_release_471142_signed_2_4.zip").

EDIT, NOT SURE IF THIS WORKS WITH S-ON. YOU WILL HAVE TO DO SOME DIGGING. I HAVEN'T BEEN S-ON IN PROB 7 YEARS, SO I FORGET. YOU WILL NEED TO DO YOUR OWN SEARCHING TO MAKE SURE THESE DIRECTIONS WORK. THEY ARE FINE FOR S-OFF, AND MAYBE S-ON. 4a, SD-Card METHOD, SHOULD BE FINE TO TEST. IT IS THE SAFEST METHOD AS IS.
1) Download the RUU:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939830809
2) Download this htc_fastboot.exe
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722646249
3) Put RUU and htc_fastboot.exe in the same folder with your adb files in it. If you don't have them, I have kindly uploaded the files for you... All you need to do is extract it.. Right click, Extract to htc_Fastboot10/
4) Instructions to flash the RUU:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
htc_fastboot flash zip 2PS6IMG_PERFUME_UHL_O80_SENSE90GP_MR_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.2_R4_release_519849.zip
htc_fastboot reboot
4a) Instructions to flash the RUU - SD-Card Method:
Code:
rename
2PS6IMG_PERFUME_UHL_O80_SENSE90GP_MR_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.2_R4_release_519849.zip
to
2PS6IMG.zip
Place onto root on phone SD-Card
Reboot to download mode
Press VolUp to confirm and proceed with the flash, or press VolDown to cancel
It should stop at "end UI updating. Press Power to continue" - the phone will now shut off. To turn it back on, press and briefly hold power again.

This is the exact thing,
Unlocked bootloader throught HTC dev. installed TWRP. Downloaded Leedroid files and i saved them in sd card. And went to TWRP and wiped . then i flashed . went through the customization options which leedroid gives, i chose a kernal too in the option. and flashed.
Flashing finished.
I rebooted the phone. A leedroid logo came up . it stayed their for like 10 - 15 mins. i switched it off by pressing the power button more than 10-15 seconds i guess. Then i went to recovery and restored the backup. and i was on a black screen. I tried to Flash a RUU but it was failed(i guess the CID no. was not right) . Then i wiped again and restored again. I thought my phone was dead . i was trying to remove the sim card from my phone and put it in an old lenovo. By mistakely i removed the SD card and error came while restoring. i simply pressed reboot and my phone was somehow turned on. It was factory default. But my sim card is not working.
Between, i am having a doubt. The RUU is only based on the CID number ? the number in download mode (...401.2) has anything to do with it ?
Are you on Oreo Firmware? As i know there are no RUU for oreo firmware, so you must to downgrade. On S-ON, you can't just flash RUU if you want to downgrade. Follow step from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/how-to-rollback-oreo-to-marshmallow-s-t3787101/page2 (see post #15). I just downgrade from oreo to nougat using this guide.

No, you shouldn't
So you are pulling SD cards and or sim cards out of the devixe while it's booting/flashing.....for god sake man. Thats stupid.
A RUU is made for many cids, actually the 3.16.401 RUU is for every device that has that number is the Download mode. So if your phone has that the RUU is correct. When the download mode says 2.41.401 then you need that RUU which is also available here at xda. There is no other. And flash leedroid again and wait longer. Have patience.
Or flash the RUU, rename the zip and put it on the sdcard, boot to download mode and let it flash.

When the download mode says 2.41.401 then you need that RUU which is also available here at xda. There is no other. And flash leedroid again and wait longer. Have patience.
Or flash the RUU, rename the zip and put it on the sdcard, boot to download mode and let it flash.

What are you in about. You yourself linked the backup thread here in one of your previous posts, in the last comments there is a Android file host link with the 3.16.401 RUU. I really have no idea how and where you guys are searching and why would you recommend him to downgrade ??? Giving help is one thing but if you don't even know where to find the files it's better to stop. This all baffles me!

Dude knock it off.....3.18.400 is NOT the international RUU. The 3.16.401 is the international RUU and if you would check that specific thread and read a little and click a link to see what files are shared you see one of the last posts in the thread that i already shared the full wwe RUU!
We are discussing the 3.16.401 RUU NOT the 3.18.400 RUU that's a completely different region and file. Of course not all RUU files are out on xda or the www for that matter.

No it's kinda disturbing that you are going from left to right as you also said you successfully downgraded your device to nougat so why do you need the RUU ? If you successfully downgraded to nougat you can also update officially again to oreo so that would disable the need of the RUU. You are giving the idea that you need the 3.16.401 RUU but you don't even need that one.
The only thing you are doing in this thread is repeating people's answers and confusing the original poster.
To the original poster of this thread :
Download the 3.16.401 RUU i linked, use the SD card method and follow that. It will flash the device back to stock. If that doesn't work you are doing something wrong.

I will stop the discussion here, i am experienced in Android and specifically HTC devices. I know what i am talking about and know exactly what the OP needs. And it's none of the things you suggest as such as downgrading.
Cheers.
