Hi guys
I have question how is the update policy of LG? I am a note 4 user but Samsungs update policy made me think to change my phone and it will probably be a G4,before that I want to know how LG treates it's phones for example the G3 their previous flagship
Coming from the G2, I am very impressed. We got several updates and even got Lollipop before the G3 got updated. They are really good on past phones. Everything is sort of in a stalemate rigjt now because of the Android M. No sense in updating anything when Android M is the finalised version of lollipop.
Could be better tbh, they update Korean version very fast which include major fixes 2 months ago, and only 2 weeks ago people started receiving those.
Aside from google, all other take their time, LG won't release any new android besides Android M on G4.
Thank you for your answers
Hi, I am planning on getting the Honor 8 pro by the end of this week.i came up with a few doubts. I am switching from Moto G4 plus to Honor 8 pro and the EMUI thing has got me concerned.
1. Is it by any chance as good as the near stock android like feel of Moto G4 plus?
2. Is there a way of getting stock android in it without bricking my phone?
3. I just received the June 2017 security patch for Moto G4+ and it got me wondering, how will I receive these updates if I somehow manage to get stock android on Honor 8 pro?
4. I can even work with near stock like ROMs , like oxygen OS or CynogenMods or anything similar, but then, how long will be my wait before I get my hands on Android O after it is released. Is the Honor developer community very active? Or should I stay with EMUI expecting office releases?
5. I am not planning to get another phone for next couple of years and I am tight on budget. Am I doing the right thing by going for his phone instead of say 1+5 or LG G6 ? Or should I wait a few more weeks/months to get another "flagship killer" to be launched?
I am not very familiar with rooting and stuff so if anyone could guide me towards some resources to read about these, it will be great. Preferably Honor phones related rooting.
Thankyou in advance

1. EMUI looks similar with app drawer , not fully stock as g4 plus
2.updates are pretty fast now by huawei
3 .you will get the latest security patch.l
4.kernal is released we can expect good ROM development
5.RRos is so cool in this device ,AOSPA also.. best ROMs
6. if you are a flasholic better to go for OP5 .the development is soo fast there .
Your post seems like you want stock Android, if that's the case then you should go with OP5.

I would love to have OP5 but I am really really tight on budget, even 30K is stretching me too far from my budget. I just want to make sure that it's worth it. I am not a flasholic, I flash once in like 6 months, just to test out some other ROMS, just want to ensure that I won't have to dig the depths of the internet to get a compatible ROM.

if you get honor 8 for 18k it was the best deal around that budget
I rather enjoy having more functions then stock android. This is not Samsung or LG amount of bloatware or wierd functions, but rather small improvements. Still fast and lagg free and I have no doubt it still will be in a couple of years.
The screen, looks & build quality and battery life are stuff that really impress and makes this a "flagship phone /killer". Also quite future proof specs.

Just for everyone to know, I finally bought Honor 8 Pro, and so far I am very happy that I did. Thank you all for the replies.
I even dropped the phone once from a height of around 4 feets (Unintentionally ofcourse) and apart from having a little paint removed from the top, everything is fine. Guess the build quality is good enough.
I remember reading about having a software upgrade soon on 25-26th of this month. Anyone has any update on that ?

Yes, this is great, not bad at all. I am just worried about the updates now, that's all. Other than that, EMUI is pretty sleek.

Even i am skeptical of installing it. I am using a Huawei device for he first time and thus don't know how to revive it if something goes wrong.
I made a seperate thread regarding updates. I will try to find some more info about how to install it.

Yes, same is the case with me, though I had enough experience with some other devices.

any reason for preferring stock Android? what do you expect from "stock" experience? smoothness? or an Android without any extra features? and why?
EMUI has got it's own pros & cons.. there are some really good things that Huawei has implemented into the OS. there are also some quirks that they've never gotten to fixing..
in terms of security patches.. Huawei and honor, sadly, can be a bit slow. maybe like once every 3-6 months once.
but personally, I'm not too worried coz in the end, if you practise safe use, not an issue. before I got my honor8Pro, I was using Note 2.. and well, what security patch? haha..
wait a little

Moto g5s and s+ are one the way ... so might as well wait for them, and few other noteworthy devices are getting released, there's been meizu with dual screen.... I use honor8 pro... it has all the premium features on surface.... but not mind blowing, good cam, better screen , thin profile, premium finish and attention to detail are few highlights, but expected a lot more from emui, no native equalizer though dts certified, knuckle knock for screenshots works at its own will, not many customized options in features, only reason I'd go for non stock Android phones ks their skin embedded features whereas on stock Android you'd need an app..
Another noteworthy omission is no photobackup on huwei cloud, and system state backup seems to be non existent as well...
Few more points to consider is how Future proof is your phone, because you'd expect some resale value right.. from 30000 the fall of price might be steeper, so consider it all and jump the boat, meanwhile if you do buy honor 8 pro do get back with your opinion about the device and any good things you've discovered about it... it'd be nice to compare
I read today that Huawei plans the roll out of Oreo for the Porsche Design in December. In case of any bugs, it might be January.
Any Oreo Beta link for Mate 9 PD?

Can you share where you found this info?
It's good to know that we're not being forgotten.
I read it here: https://androidworld.nl/nieuws/huawei-mate-9-android-oreo-december/
I've just seen on funky Huawei that they've got the beta build of Oreo!
Has anyone had the official Oreo update?
Apparently it's being shared in Chinese versions but I thought the PD version was one and the same?
Nothing yet
Just bit the bullet and upgraded to Oreo using Funky Huawei and it's really good!
Smoother and it seems a little faster!
Now hopefully it can connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously!!
I can't see any reference to the projection feature as yet but the phone seems a lot more stable.
Barclays and Barclaycard apps still saying the phone is rooted but all my other banking apps, including android pay work fine.
The Oreo update is visible in Firmware Finder, but it's not yet approved for my phone.
Hi,
I've been using the honor 8 pro for almost 8 months now and I do like the phone but the one thing that pisses me off is the GPS accuracy. It takes time to get a fix and mostly doesn't work properly.
I want to know if this is an issue with Honor 8 pro because when I googled I saw it was an issue for Honor 8.
I use location services like 90% of the time when I travel and hence it is crucial to me.
I thought it would get better after the Oreo update but it hasn't and the Oreo update Huawei gave has bugs and this is after I formatted the phone after installing the update. It's sluggish compared to when it was on Nougat.
I am close to giving up on this phone and Huwaei altogether.
I haven't rooted my phone yet and I might give the OpenKririn team's Oreo 8 rom a try once they support Jio VoLTE.
so far, no such issue for me. GPS locks in quite fast and accurate.
what apps are you using?
Calibration problem try re-calibration again
We're waiting for the Oreo update but it doesnt seem to be coming anytime soon.
Just another security update.

Last night my XT1670 retla was updated to the security patch of January 1st. Still Android 7.0, but waiting for Oreo...
And I received january security patch today (XT1671 RETLA)
Di you notice any changes in behavior?
On reteu also the same update
I already got the march patch some days ago, retbr
Maybe Android Oreo will be released in April 19th, 2018. It's the announcement date of Moto G6 Play, Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus.

That's really bad news because if we don't get the update before G6 launch we'll probably never see oreo on the G5, it's going be forgotten by lenovo.

they said the same for the G4 series and then didn't even updated to nougat as of today, 2 years+ later.
They updated Moto G4 series Unlocked variants to 7.0 and 7.1.1
The worst ever software update service i ever had. Thought samsung was the worst. But its non other than Moto. I bought this phone just because... Thinking that it will be stock Android, it will update quickly.. and will have better support. Moto used to be ahead of evey other , right behind nexus / pixel devices in terms of software update. But soon after Lenovo acquired moto, software update is a nightmare for every single moto phone.
You may have seen xda portal news about moto g6 series. Well they too wont be getting much support either.
I bought this phone as my secondary phone... I will give this to mom and will buy something like xiaomi note 5 or Zenfone pro m1 . I have a pixel 2 xl as primary.. evey time it gets update notification... I desperately check software update on this too. Now its on march 1 security update. I am looking forward to 64bit official os. Hope Lenovo will do it atlest in two years.
Btw.. i had only one phone from Lenovo ever before. A6000 just 3 days after i bought it its vibration motor stopped!! And when i searched for the reason , i figured out that it was one of their common problems. So i thought to put in some local vibrator motor from local market.. as going and waiting for service is too time consuming. When i opened the phone. I was literally shocked by the quality of the pcb construction.. it was like cheep chineese phones.. soo bad construction .. lol.. they dont even care to put rf sheilds and cheep quality wires and speakers. Literally... Some Chinese manufacturers make better pcb.. If you compare that pcb with something like nokia 1110 ( ya a phone from almost 10 years back) . Nokia's pcb is still the winner. !! Generations ahead.. still .. That day i decided.. i will never buy a Lenovo product again. And I didn't even care to go to local market and buy a vibration motor for that phone.. i closed it. And after a week, gifted to a friend.
Lol.. p20 and p20 pro.. good they sealed it. Donno what will be inside.
I also bought moto to get quick updates and I think, best solution to get oreo is installing custom rom and voiding warranty. That's so funny, lenovo can't still release oreo, but custom roms are on 8.1
