Hi, I am planning on getting the Honor 8 pro by the end of this week.i came up with a few doubts. I am switching from Moto G4 plus to Honor 8 pro and the EMUI thing has got me concerned.
1. Is it by any chance as good as the near stock android like feel of Moto G4 plus?
2. Is there a way of getting stock android in it without bricking my phone?
3. I just received the June 2017 security patch for Moto G4+ and it got me wondering, how will I receive these updates if I somehow manage to get stock android on Honor 8 pro?
4. I can even work with near stock like ROMs , like oxygen OS or CynogenMods or anything similar, but then, how long will be my wait before I get my hands on Android O after it is released. Is the Honor developer community very active? Or should I stay with EMUI expecting office releases?
5. I am not planning to get another phone for next couple of years and I am tight on budget. Am I doing the right thing by going for his phone instead of say 1+5 or LG G6 ? Or should I wait a few more weeks/months to get another "flagship killer" to be launched?
I am not very familiar with rooting and stuff so if anyone could guide me towards some resources to read about these, it will be great. Preferably Honor phones related rooting.
Thankyou in advance

1. EMUI looks similar with app drawer , not fully stock as g4 plus
2.updates are pretty fast now by huawei
3 .you will get the latest security patch.l
4.kernal is released we can expect good ROM development
5.RRos is so cool in this device ,AOSPA also.. best ROMs
6. if you are a flasholic better to go for OP5 .the development is soo fast there .
Your post seems like you want stock Android, if that's the case then you should go with OP5.

I would love to have OP5 but I am really really tight on budget, even 30K is stretching me too far from my budget. I just want to make sure that it's worth it. I am not a flasholic, I flash once in like 6 months, just to test out some other ROMS, just want to ensure that I won't have to dig the depths of the internet to get a compatible ROM.

if you get honor 8 for 18k it was the best deal around that budget
I rather enjoy having more functions then stock android. This is not Samsung or LG amount of bloatware or wierd functions, but rather small improvements. Still fast and lagg free and I have no doubt it still will be in a couple of years.
The screen, looks & build quality and battery life are stuff that really impress and makes this a "flagship phone /killer". Also quite future proof specs.

Just for everyone to know, I finally bought Honor 8 Pro, and so far I am very happy that I did. Thank you all for the replies.
I even dropped the phone once from a height of around 4 feets (Unintentionally ofcourse) and apart from having a little paint removed from the top, everything is fine. Guess the build quality is good enough.
I remember reading about having a software upgrade soon on 25-26th of this month. Anyone has any update on that ?

Yes, this is great, not bad at all. I am just worried about the updates now, that's all. Other than that, EMUI is pretty sleek.

Even i am skeptical of installing it. I am using a Huawei device for he first time and thus don't know how to revive it if something goes wrong.
I made a seperate thread regarding updates. I will try to find some more info about how to install it.

any reason for preferring stock Android? what do you expect from "stock" experience? smoothness? or an Android without any extra features? and why?
EMUI has got it's own pros & cons.. there are some really good things that Huawei has implemented into the OS. there are also some quirks that they've never gotten to fixing..
in terms of security patches.. Huawei and honor, sadly, can be a bit slow. maybe like once every 3-6 months once.
but personally, I'm not too worried coz in the end, if you practise safe use, not an issue. before I got my honor8Pro, I was using Note 2.. and well, what security patch? haha..
wait a little

Moto g5s and s+ are one the way ... so might as well wait for them, and few other noteworthy devices are getting released, there's been meizu with dual screen.... I use honor8 pro... it has all the premium features on surface.... but not mind blowing, good cam, better screen , thin profile, premium finish and attention to detail are few highlights, but expected a lot more from emui, no native equalizer though dts certified, knuckle knock for screenshots works at its own will, not many customized options in features, only reason I'd go for non stock Android phones ks their skin embedded features whereas on stock Android you'd need an app..
Another noteworthy omission is no photobackup on huwei cloud, and system state backup seems to be non existent as well...
Few more points to consider is how Future proof is your phone, because you'd expect some resale value right.. from 30000 the fall of price might be steeper, so consider it all and jump the boat, meanwhile if you do buy honor 8 pro do get back with your opinion about the device and any good things you've discovered about it... it'd be nice to compare

Hi All!,
I am a current OnePlus 3t user, and it's a great phone. I was looking to get a new phone for 2 main reasons:
The space on the OnePlus I have is limitted to 64 Gb, I am running out.
With the new Snapdragon 835 out, I thought I'd look for a phone with that if I were to upgrade.
So I thought I'd check out the OnePlus 5, however the price of it put me off. Having done some research, I really like the look of the Xiaomi Mi 6. However there are a few things that are still making me reconsider:
The reviews I have seen have commented the software is buggy. It crashes and stops working at times. The software on the OnePlus 3T just works. I've not had any problems. If I get the Mi6, will it be a case of buying a buggy phone?
Also with the software, I've never used MiUi, and personally I like the simplicity and near stock Android on the OnePlus. How big of a change is the MiUi and is it customisable?
Does the Mi6 have the ability to capture RAW images?
Thanks in advance! :good:
I migrated quickly to Xiaomi.EU ROM when I purchased Mi6, although I didn't have any problem with (fake) supplied ROM.
I've used my mom's 3T for quite a bit, and the stock Android feel of OxygenOS and frequent and fast update from OnePlus is the big... plus.
MIUI, on the other hand, has very bad notification handling. It feels like you're using Android 4.2/4.4 something. You can't swipe left/right on the lockscreen notifications to make them go away, nor you can't expand it nicely like in pure android (You can do it on notification shade however, using 2 fingers, but the experience just sucks). I tried floatify to emulate the notification in stock android, but it's not enough.
MIUI for Mi6 hasn't provided RAW capture capability AFAIK.
OnePlus 5 has released their kernel source, so dev can easily start working custom ROM on that. But Xiaomi has been notorious keeping the kernel source for a long time (about 6 months+ on previous flagship), that makes the non-MIUI based ROM harder to develop.
I'm currently trying to get LineageOS installed on my Mi6, I'll post more on that LineageOS thread maybe tomorrow evening or the day after.
There is always some plus and minus. I’ve been using Xiaomi 5 Pro and I’m very happy {:m034:}
I used to have One+1 and One+3. Both were great phones.
With perfect Quality/Price factor. Even with EU prices:-/
Now I had been waiting for One+5 and all-around I’m very disappointed wit it.
Reason?
USB 2, No OIS, Software AND Price for EU!!!
It’s not the Flagship killer anymore, it starts to be exclusive peace of equipment.
My main decision point (quality/price factor) dropped down rapidly.
I really prefer MIUI in comparison to Cyanogen (1+1) or OxygenOS (1+3).
With weekly Globe-Roms upgrade (http://mi-globe.com) I’m really satisfied. Mi 5 works very smooth.
OK., it’s with open boot loader and rooted, but all my phoned have been same way in the past
(and will be in future )
I do not remember what I used in the first case, but in 1+3, I changed it to Resurrection Remix ROM.
I agree that all Oneplus society forum support is great. Same with software developers.
I hope that here in MIUI world it will be the same soon.
Especially that after all comparisons of my own, I decided to order Mi 6, 6/128 one.
))
Without any doubt the mi6, and specially if you can buy it at 369USD in some aliexpress offers.
I just Got the Mi 6 pro. Fresh in my hand. It looks great, and feels excellent. It's running very smooth at the moment but hey, is brand new.
I have my 3t on hand.
I think most of the comments are correct. One plus updates quick esp of your on the beta stream, it's smooth and you don't have to deal with MIUI overlay - the OnePlus launcher is excellent.
The Mi 6 is very emotional - what the 3T has and the 5 does not.
Practically, get the 5....you know what to expect. The Mi6 feels great though.....!
I have to edit this: having had the phone for a week - the Mi6 is the smoothest, fastest phone in town right now, period, including the S8 Plus. It's very slick indeed, very, very quick, had an excellent camera and great Sound.
It's very difficult to put the Mi6 down and pick up any of the other phones.

On the same boat. I have been reading about the touchscreen delay problems, bluetooth connectivity and some other bugs and i am hesitant to do the leap of faith on mi6.
One plus 5 on the other hand has such community and gets so many updates that you are sure that software problems will be fixed as soon as possible.

If you find bugs on MI 6,you can tell the developers of Xiaomi to fix them.
I got both the op5 and Mi6, the op5 has an real deal-breaker with the "jelly screen" design flaw. As for now there is no fix and oneplus says its "natural". So the Mi6 is an better choice for me.

i recon that bluetooth bugs have existed with the launch and they are yet to get a 'fix'.
Updates for global seem non existant but on the other hand thats what you get for the mi series. Xiaomi is pretty great for international devices, mainly speaking about the redmi series. Rest seem to be left untouched(Mi mix, note 2, mi5 s etc).
I am gonna hold myself from buying this yet.
Almost all custom Roms are not even updated since last year. The custom Rom or Android development for Honor 8 Pro is totally off? Why is that?
Even after oreo release, feels like no one interested.
update: Honor released kernel source for honor 8 pro
https://www.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro-honor-9-android-oreo-kernel-source/
personally, i feel that this is due to the fact that:
* many are happy for stock ROM
* stock ROM has got a lot of features and options for all sorts of ppl
* in terms of optmisation and efficiency, modern day version of Android don't really drain that much.
* battery tech has improved and we see phones packing bigger battery. so, ppl no longer than concerned abt battery life
* limited user-base -- so ROM developers are better off spending their time on phones with larger user-base, thus getting better feedback and attention

Just After honor ditch us, no chance of Getting future android experience ?
Honor left honor 8 pro.
Honor is fully focused on AI based honor view 10, the selected developer were given free honor view 10 handsets for its support and development of rom's in future. Honor has ditched the honor 8 pro.
The developers started working on honor view 10 and developed treble lineage os 15.1 rom based on Oreo 8.1 for kirin 970 devices.
Even the magisk and substrantum support is given for honor view 10.
I think this is my last honor device ??.

personally, i dun expect much since honor 8 Pro is a one year old device (using China's V9 as the actual launch). honor already launched a replacement device and if they actually continue to promote older device, then there's something not right with their strategy. so, it's only right that they get support for newer device instead, which is the View 10.
and the Q is... do i need custom rom? nope. i dun think i need it. and do i think it's needed for even View 10? nope... dun think it's needed.
many reasons why i dun think custom rom needed is in my first reply above.

I heard yesterday, Honor had removed Kernal sources for Honor 8 pro(or V9)[after its launched] that's a big problem also for custom roms.
Even in their own website the stock firmware is not available, no even it's name.
Stock rom might ne good, but Many people seeks for Future taste of Android. Honor already ditch us, The only way we could have taste Android p or Android Q using custom roms and now that also not possible.
Where as they are making sure Honor view 10 get erd party development supports.

i bought the honor 8 Pro because it is a good phone. great specs at affordable price. i din get it so i could get the latest version of Android. to me, so long as it works and it's patched (and while it's inconsistent but the updates have been coming from Honor), i'm fine with it.
and based on the above, honor 8 Pro is still a good phone. i don't really care about the latest Android version. what is more important is that i'm using the smartphone for what it can do -- connecting me. and it's doing a great job at that.

U r right, It will still be a very good phone with good specs nod doubt.
Everyone has their own view.
Some people's like custom development.
And Huawei doing open source for view 10 and removing 8pro(v9)'s kernal sources is really disappointing.
When honor8pro was launched, Huawei/Honor out up a show like this is device is going to get all the required attention and care. Instead they struggled with patches itself. Not even updates, fhey couldn't make working patches.
They looked for market and found one. That's it. US market is unreachable at least for an year or two, so a new strategy is to push as many devices as they can in current markets while lobbying for US market.
Honor tried or picturized a Xiaomi like strategy but went Samsung ish. Hardware wise 8pro is matchless in its tier but then there isn't much you can boast about it on realtime usage. They nerfed battery when some issues started its that bad.
It's a compromise device that has been further compromised. I feel honor is a sinking ship. They're severely dependent on marketing than letting phones prove themselves. They have paid Android authority and even Xda well to keep featuring posts or reviews about their phones. So that neo nerds or spec hungry guys can devour these devices and guys like these are usually the ones that are looked up or called up by less nerdy or less tech literates for their next best phone.
Such fake image doesn't hold long and easily shatters. Just like one plus which promised big things and promised support and longevity unlike google... and then just ditched all that, Honor too promised devices with better specs and better support but well... at this rate honor 10view will bite the dust soon as well, or if things keep going bad for honor/Huawei they might loop back.
Only time will tell. But for now it sure is bleak for Honor8pro. There isn't a way to jump to custom roms either. So when **** hits the cieling this phone will be a glorified remote control.

Honor 8 pro is the most neglected so called "Flagship killer" of 2017/18.
Shortly after the release of 8 pro, they had taken down all official firmware sources.
View 10 is view 10 all over the globe. 8 pro is just a 128 GB variant of V9. So it has been completely neglected.
When Honor was questioned as to why firmware sources were removed, they gave a dumb reply saying it was HQ decision and they have least control over it.
This is like being in Apple ecosystem. Very sad to see such a potential device being neglected completely.
Honor has suddenly started focusing on lower budget segment in India after 8 pro's launch. Devices like 9 lite are starting to see updates for Face Unlock and yester year Flagship 8 pro is still with buggy Oreo update which they cannot fix.

1. some animations are choppy(doesn't concern me much)
2. no volte(i don't need it)
3. no stock camera(will be added soon)
4. minor graphical glitches. (doesn't affect the overall interface)

VOLTE is a big concern for me. Atleast in India.
Ok, lets not call it port----, fixing those glitches.
And jst turn of animation scale?, no problem of transitions.

Hi guys
I'll try to make this short. I lost my Redmi Note 5 Pro (which I loved) and now I need a new phone. I stumbled upon the Honor 7x while searching for an alternative. You should know that I never bought a Huawei phone, I only used high end devices from Samsung, OP, LG and recently been using Xiaomi phones. I had a very bad experience with the Redmi Note 4 with its MTK SoC, since I LOVE flashing custom ROMs and doing all sort of new stuff with my device (rooting, xposed, theming..etc).
How is development doing for this device? Will I be able to easily unlock my bootloader, install TWRP and flash custom ROMs?
Also, how is battery life? and does the Kirin SoCs overheat and thermal throttle like MTK while gaming?
How is the overall smoothness of this phone (on official ROM)? No lags or some lags?
I'd really appreciate it if someone of you could provide some useful inputs based on your experience with this phone.
Thanks!
If you're type of person who loves to flash mods like Gcam,ViperForAndroid.prefer having tons of ROMs, smooth Gaming Experience Then a big No. Considering Honor 7x on Oreo is treble enabled you can surely flash gsi and Openkirin gsi yet none of them having VOLTE. Development on Kirin Soc is just bare bones. Speaking of EMUI is pretty good if you prefer Customs Skins over stock android. Speaking of battery gives Average 6-7 SOT.
Suggestion: if you're in hurry then get zenfone max pro else wait for Mi max 3, Nokia X6 , Mi A2 they are launching soon in indian markets.

Omg I love the Asus zenfone max pro! It seems such a great device for the price of less than 200$. But I can't seem to find it anywhere aside from flipkart or ebay (overpriced). I'm not an indian so I can't order it from flipkart. Do you know if it will be sold in the future on aliexpress or another international website?
OnePlus is the way to go. Get the 5T or the 6, both are very fine devices. Heck, even the OP3 (and 3T) are still good today.
If you like to tweak devices then this is for you. This phones hardware potential is ridiculous. The silicone is just a great piece of engineering and you can install some ROMS. Developers will make more because they know how good the hardware, not to mention the great price tag.

You mean sources for this device are now available for devs to create custom ROMs?

I'm not sure if sources are available, but Huawei is normally pretty good at releasing such things.
According to this URL: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/open...Type=openSourceSoftware&pageSize=10&curPage=1
If you search 'BND', you'll see "7X,BND,EMUI5.1,Android7.0"
What I meant originally was, the Honor 7X is an INCREDIBLE phone at an incredible price, lots of customization/tweaking options. I personally have lineage OS beta 4 installed.

1. I'm not a developer so I don't know, there are only a handful of custom OS you can download ATM.
2. Huawei provides you with a bootloader code to easily unlock the bootloader.
3. The trick with TWRP is you need to beable to install a TWRP that does decryption. Reason being is the Honor 7x, I don't know if its the entire phone.. it probably is... but I know for a fact some parts are encrypted, and you can't make a TWRP backup unless your TWRP can handle decryption. I tried to install a TWRP with decryption thats suppose to work for our phone, but I got some kind of error (I didn't write it down, but the error basically meant that it didn't work). The TWRP with decryption thats available was made for another Huawei phone thats suppose to work for the 7x. One thing you could try, would be to decrypt the phone, and then see if you can make a TWRP backup. Theres a few ways to do that: 1. TWRP>Format Data. 2. fastboot erase userdata 3. Theres probably a GUI way to do it in Settings>Security&Privacy>Encryption&Credentials>Encrypt Phone.
4. Battery life, Its way better than the Honor 5x. I haven't had my phone for very long, so I can't tell you the real world battery results. My battery menu says I have 7 days left of battery if that tells you anything. My Honor 5x got 4 days max, and this phone I know beats it... so my estimate is 5 days of battery for my usage. I'm pretty sure that Oreo has made improvements as far as battery. I looked at catlog in realtime, there wasn't hardly any activity going on unless you did something. On my Honor 5x there was always activity going on regardless.
5. I haven't played any games yet, So I don't know about SOC temps while under load. I've read on other posts that Kirin SOCS temps are good. Right now mines sitting at 29 celcius, which is excellent!
6. On official ROM, I only played with it for a short while, it seemed smooth. Now its not as smooth as iPhone, but I felt like it was just about as smooth as an android is gonna get.
Does anyone know if the features from Nord 2 like EXTRA HD, ULTRA NIGHT MODE , NIGHT POTRAIT, new GAME app is coming to 9 series specifically to 9 pro or not??
lol definitely not

What makes you think it won't? It'll definitely come it'll just take a couple months.
OnePlus always does this. They release extra features on a new device and it trickles down a few updates later to the rest of the phones. 9 Pro is their Flagship so I guarantee we'll get this stuff eventually.

I got tired of waiting for Samsung not allowing bootloader to be unlocked. I like custom fonts systemwide and custom bootanimation.
Hi, Here's recent similar thread comments:
Also the 9 Pro is an overall great device for my usage...
One plus 9 pro worth buying ?
Looking at upgrading and was wondering if it's worth buying a oneplus 9 Pro what is battery life like how long it last
forum.xda-developers.com
Was looking at custom roms for oneplus 9 pro but it looks confusing wouldn't no where to start
The only flagship Samsung I would reccomend is the N10+ Snapdragon if you can live without a variable refresh rate display and 5G. These features have caused many problems since their implementation including outright hardware failures.
The OP phones are a viable alternative if you want a newer flagship. None of the new Samsung flagships have expandable storage and suffer from poor design balance. You may want to wait 6-8 months and see what comes next if you can. Waiting costs you nothing. It gives you more and better user input of existing models.
I was looking at s22 plus but not really sure but oneplus 9 pro was the phone I was going to get until I got told don't buy it

I left a Galaxy Note 10 for this OP 9 Pro and have not had any regrets....staying on stock OOS11, tried the 12 and didn't like it for the bugs and downgraded back to eleven.

The 9 pro is a great phone. Lots of customization, the screen is really nice, and the camera is awesome too. IDK if you're into rooting and custom roms but there's a ton of options with that too (which you can't really get on Samsung phones.) To say that these are just cheap Chinese phones just isn't true.
Someone told me that the phone was constantly rebooting itself so that's why they told me not to go with it as they said software is not good I have a s10 lite at minute and need a new phone

It isn't a necessity to use custom roms, you can make similar modifications to the stock rom. If you read the instructions very carefully not much can go wrong, and if something does you're almost always able to recover it with msmtool
