It basically says that the G3 will get the update in the 4th quarter of 2014 and that the G2 will get it "later'.
To me this means the G3 will get lollipop in Nov/Dec time frame and the G2 probably more like Jan/Feb time frame.

Yes we are getting 5,0 just like the op title says. Our phone is only about 11 months old, google updates it's devices for at least 22 months. Expect many more updates possibly even android 6.0

Hope LG sticks to their time table, they have gotten much better since the days of the G2X/O2X.
Well damn, this is quick, LG became the first phone manufacturer to announce the beginning of a 5.0 Lollipop rollout. The LG G3 just started getting a 5.0 Lollipop rollout in Poland, is this a good sign that the LG G2 could be next in line to get 5.0 Lollipop after the G3 gets fully upgraded to 5.0 Lollipop?

1) There's absolutely no way to know for sure when the G2 will get it's taste of Lollipop - I'm guesstimating January at some point, hopefully sooner but there's just no way to know for certain till it happens. Speculation gets us nowhere at this point.
2) The G3 ROM that is now available from various sources won't do much for us G2 owners at the moment because it can't just be ported over directly to the G2 like the G3 KitKat ROM could (as I understand it). The lack of a proper source for the G2 kernel for Lollipop is what'll hold us back and until that appears then we won't be seeing any useful G3-based ported of Lollipop for our G2 devices.
3) Everybody knows about this now, it's been all over the forum for nearly a week now (the impending LG release), there's threads all over the place about it, every Android site - even Engadget - has had their front-page devotion to the LG move to beat everybody else to the punch so I'd say as long as the G3 rollout happens without any major problems or showstoppers (like what happened with the N4/N5 rollout and then rollback because of the battery bug), perhaps we might get a Christmas present from LG for our G2 devices.
Worth hoping for...

it won't be for this soon i think, v20k will be released shortly which is still 5.0 based on assumptions.
But I also know lg's firmwares letters rarely go further as u,v or w haha.

In the presumed leaked photos of the presumed G4, it uses 5.0.2, so LG will take time before using 5.1
Glad they will soon push 5.0.2 though!! Finally a RAM fix!!!

I have seen a lot of people say that they would not get the V30 or any LG phone because they suck at updates. I knew this was not entirely true from when I owned a G3 the updates were actually pretty good. I remember specifically the G3 being the first non-Google phone to get Lollipop update.
So I thought maybe their updates have gotten worse and decided to do some research. The best way to tell how good updates will be in the V30 is to see how the updates were on the V phone which has been out for a good while. Of course that's the V10. So here are my findings of the update history for the V10 which will likely indicate how the V30 updates will be.
Unlocked models:
Released November 2015
Upgraded from 5.1.1 to 6.0 March 2016
Upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 on July 2017
Latest Security Patch September 2017 or possibly newer
T-Mobile model
Released October 2015
Upgraded from 5.1.1 to 6.0 on April 2016
Upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 on July 2017

CONCLUSION: past updates for the V10 released 2 years ago shows if you buy a V30 on T-Mobile or unlocked version then you will receive updates and security patches for up to 2 years. If you purchase on Verizon or AT&T then updates will only be for about 1 year.
So from this actually LG is very good with updates!! People just think they are not because it is Verizon and AT&T who are the ones holding back updates.
Also 1 additional note, the V10 was never released on Sprint, but the V30+ was, and Sprint has a very good update history. So the V30+ will likely receive 2 years of updates on Sprint too. Unfortunately their network is the worst.
Hopefully this clears up the myth that LG doesn't update their phones. The only thing they are bad at is taking a few months to release the update after Google has released the update (which most companies do), but they do still push out the updates for 2 years. It's the 2 biggest carriers Verizon and AT&T that do not, or at least did not with the V10. Therefore giving the perception LG is bad at updates when theyre not.
You forgot the H870 which is still on July patch, same happened with G5 H850 last year.
LG is good with major updates for speed, for patches and minor updates is one of the worst.

Just realized that all those data are about the V10... Why? Use more recent phones for right comparison at least, anyway you can sum up the LG updates year like this:
- Release-November: One update for two months
- November-December: Major update
- January-end of the updates: random

Nougat 7.0 was released by Google in August 2016.
Oreo 8.0 was released by Google in August 2017.
So, those LG V10 phones below that got Nougat in July 2017 had to wait 11 months (July 2017) after Google released Nougat in August 2016, to get it on their phones -- just one month before Oreo 8.0 was released by Google. Some of the LG V10 phones still have never received it -- over 14 months now? Even for those who got Nougat, it shouldn't take 11 months after OS release for an LG flagship phone to get that version. And those that never got it?
When Nougat 7.0 was released in August 2016, the V10 was LESS than 1 year old, having been released in October 2015. When Nougat was released in August 2016, the V20 had not yet been released. It was STILL the newest, most current "V" by LG. See what I mean?
The 2016 LG V20 was LAUNCHED with Nougat on board. But for some reason the LG V10 didn't get Nougat until almost a year after that -- July 2017.
I'm buying a carrier unlocked model, so there's no excuses about ROM OS updates. Those updates will come straight from LG. I hope they do better with the LG V30. I'll be rooted, running a custom ROM -- but to keep DAC and full camera features it may have to be stock-based custom ROM. That worries me...

I used the V10 instead of V20 because it's been out for 2 years. Therefore it is the only V phone released that can give us an update what updates will be like for 2 years. The V20 can only give us 1 year of update history to look at for comparison.

Technically LG released 7.0 in May 2017 for unlocked in Korea. But then it took T-Mobile another 3 months. So only 8 months can technically be blamed on LG, which yes is still way too long. Also you can't use "some of the V10s" not getting the update, as a excuse why LG is bad with updates. Any day passed the day LG updates the unlocked model, then those days or months can only be blamed on the carrier the phone came from.
Also keep in mind the unlocked V20 and the t-mobile V20 are on the 2nd newest security update right now, September 2017. Something I didn't mention in my original post. So that's a really good sign too.
Although yes, I totally do not blame you from buying unlocked. It is the fastest with updates. However surprisingly T-Mobile is able to usually be right behind with in a month of LG.
So in summary LG updates their flagships with updates for 2 years! Except they can lag months behind in pushing out the updates. Hopefully with V30 being the most popular V phone yet this will make them more eager to push out the updates faster.

I used exactly the same examples you gave, and your examples are 11 months and "never" for Nougat.
There's no excuse for "11 months" (from LG for carrier unlocked version) to "never" (even if carriers may be partly to blame) for a flagship phone, when it was still the only "V" phone when Nougat was released, and the V20 launched with Nougat.
If you don't want to use carrier examples, why do you cite them yourself?
But when LG's behavior to the carrier unlocked version for the Nougat update is very bad.
If following the same timeline as the V10, we'll get Oreo when March 2018?

Multiple reasons! It was for comparison purposes. To demonstrate in the case of V10 not getting the 7.0, then it was carrier faults. Also for comparison to demonstrate LG pushed out updates a little faster than carriers. Also to compare each carrier to show which carrier was the fastest with updates. But not used to put blame on LG, because LG has no control over when the carrier updates once they give out the update of the unlocked version.
Lastly it wasn't 11 months, it was technically 8 months for unlocked version. My original post it was a mistake, i changed it from July to May. Articles announce the unlocked update May 2017. Although yes 8 months is still way too long. I never seen LG take that long for a major update though. So maybe it was a fluke.

Haha! Yeah that's pretty accurate if you go based off the V10. However when the V20 gets Oreo will be a sign as to how fast we will get Android P. So keep an eye out for that.
Overall LG is far from the worst manufacturer with updates, but also far from the best. They are about middle of the pack. However when a device sells well (such as the V30 seems to be) it encourages companies to be faster with updates and support because theres way more people to disappoint.
For example my girlfriend's Sony Z3 from T-Mobile back in the day stopped updates after 5.0 when Sony went to at least 6.0. T-Mobile explained to me it was because they didn't sell much of the devices, so its not worth their time and money to invest research and development for updates of a phone that sold much less than other phones. That makes sense from a business perspective and that is the way these phone companies think.
So with that in mind I think its safe to say the V30 is going to be the best selling V phone so far. Possibly even sell close to as much as the G6. Especially if they drop the price about $200 in early 2018. So that increases the chances of LG wanting to develop more time and resources into the device because it's selling so well!

Your original post shows U.S. unlocked got Nougat in July 2017. I live in U.S.and will be buying U.S.carrier unlocked version.
Do you have a link showing the corrected date?
And yes, Motorola is very bad with updates too. I'm only on Nougat because of custom ROM.

Yep! 3 unlocked v10 models received the nougat update may 2017. I corrected my original post to may.
Here is the link ans it list the 3 model numbers that got it in may. Again still a long time, but 3 months earlier than the only carrier that updated it.

this honestly was my hesitation in picking up the V30. my previous phone was the Nexus 6P and I LOVED being able to install the newest latest and greatest as soon as it dropped.
Phone manufactures really are doing themselves a disservice by not just dropping a vanilla ROM update asap and a branded OS as they see fit. They could simply omit those fancy features they bake into their ROMs.
Phone manufactures, want consumers to buy their phones for the experience...why?...why not attract consumers for the phone itself as well as the "experience". At that point you'll have 2 lines of consumers ready to buy your product. It's like when HTC? initially released some phones, they had their carrier branded phones that were spiffied up, and you could register that phone for for a developer account allowing you to install vanilla Android.

Hmmm.. As you said, only South Korea models got it in May. Those are carrier models, sold in South Korea. Everyone else got it later.

The official carrier unlocked version -- which is eligible for bootloader unlock code -- is not the same as those three South Korea carrier models.
I'm curious when the official carrier unlocked version got it. This model, which is listed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list.

So, your original email was correct, it was 11 months after Nougat was released before the official carrier unlocked version got the update.
I think since LG is including that two year warranty with most of our purchases on T-Mobile (thanks to the promo), I'd think we will see updates during that period.

Well, with root (on the bootloader unlocked models) you can have custom ROMs. There will be plenty of dev work. The LG V30 will probably get Oreo ROMs before LG officially releases Oreo. This discussion is just if you want LG updates.
I'm just concerned about DAC and camera features. So, I may have to stay on stock-based ROM (debloated, tweaked, rooted), instead of LOS-based ROM. I don't know enough information yet.

I'm not familiar with rooting and roms with lg. I've only done that with Nexus and pixel devices. Are they similar processes? Pixels and Nexus was very easy
