Fed up with 5x battery - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
So I was out for the day yesterday, had a mix of FB, Google Maps, email. No videos.
My fiance did pretty much the same but has a Huawei P9 lite.
By 9pm id already had to charge my battery! Yet she still had 30% left. We have same apps running, FB for example, I have push notifications off she doesn't. Same location settings only difference is I have NFC on for Android Pay.
Will the new Nexus/Pixel phones have a similar battery size and can I expect a better phone life?
Cheers

Kirin 650 processor, 3 GB ram, and 3000 mAh battery (P9) > Snapdragon 808, 2 GB ram, and 2700 mAh battery (5X). That's not an equal comparison that you're doing.
How would anyone know about battery life on either new Pixel phone? Best response anyone can say is: Maybe. Maybe not.

(3000-2700)/2700 = ~11% difference. FYI

[Q] about the LG escape

Wondering first if anyone even has one. Everyone online says it came.out September 16 but I've never even seen the phone in real life
But then the other question. Every review or news site says it is an entry level phone or budget low teir phone
Personally I don't get how a 4.5 inch screen dual core 1.2 ghz phone with 1gb of ram two.cameras NFC running ICS is low tier...
Someone enlighten me..those specs are better than iPhone 4s and on par with iPhone 5...yet it is low end?
Iphones are expensive lowend phones. They have weak specs, but cost a lot because of the apple hype.

It looks like a solid device, but its specs are not any better than phones sold a year ago (Nitro included). In fact AT&T sells it for the same price on contract as the Nitro, but its specs are worse except for battery capacity.

I have this phone, and it's not too shabby at all. I did get it for free instead of paying $386 for the galaxy nexus because you can't beat free. If you have any questions, please let me know I'll be happy to answer them. I'm pretty happy with it so far it's pretty fast and thin, but the camera is horrific in anything but good light and mine has a large smudge on the sensor that shows up in pictures.

I just ordered one of these to replace my Mom's phone and it's arrived, but all I've done it charge it so far (still need to complete the upgrade process). It seriously reminds me of the Nitro, and hopefully it performs just as well. The battery is rated slightly higher, which is a must since my Nitro's battery life isn't too good
The iPhone specs aren't really all that great, but the OS is real reason to choose something else imho. Anything to get away from iTunes.
Specs aren't on par with the iPhone 5 at all. That phone destroys any android phone's GPU besides the Adreno 320.

Some questions on the GNex

I think I might buy a GSM unlocked Galaxy Nexus for my sister..she's still using a MyTouch 4G on T-Mobile ..(stock) and still in a old contract plan but that's coming to an end soon..
So does this phone still run fast on stock Google software? Is Google still putting out updates to it?
And what's a good price for it? It can run on either AT&T or T-Mobile in the U.S correct?
Lastly what's the stock battery mah rating? And what's the biggest mah battery in mah I can fit in there for the stock back door?
Thank you kindly.

1. It still runs fast, but not amazingly fast as before. Google somehow made 4.2 heavier in every possible way and the only reason the Nexus 4 doesn't lag is because it's fighting its way through it.
2. Don't know. I don't live in the US.
3. 1750 mAh? You can get an extended battery in a range of charges. Even up to 5000 mAh.
Keep in mind this phone has a couple downfalls that prevent me from reccomending it at this point in time.
The speaker is quiet, the radios are weak, the camera is relatively bad in all conditions besides sunny days and the battery life is terrible, not too mention it is verging on two years of age and will lose Google's official support most likely very soon.
If you can stomach these issues than by all means get her the galaxy nexus as it is still a decent phone. I know based on my sisters usage that battery life is a large priority to her, I am not sure how much your sister uses her phone but I doubt she would be happy charging her phone twice a day.
If I were in your shoes I would save up the extra $100 or so and get her a nexus 4 as it will be more future proof regarding hardware specs and official Google support.

Which one will u be getting? 7 or 7a?

So I really can't decide between which to get. 2560X1600 sure sounds good, but I'm worried about performance, especially in games. And 7a is downgrade version. What version will you guys be getting and why? So I can hopefully make up my mind too lol.

I want the full spec one of course, I don't play graphics intensive games on phone so I don't really care with gaming performance, but I do worry about the battery life, I will wait for reviews first.
Full reviews on both before I decide, but 7 is what I want at the moment!
Sent from my g2 using Tapatalk
Full spec all the way. Game on PC or Telly, more real estate. Casual games will run fine
7a is going to be my preference. I want my battery life! It's not just going to be gaming that the resolution with have a negative effect on - EVERYTHING will require the GPU/CPU/display subsystem to push more pixels. The Find7 will either have the same GPU or only a slight clock boost.
Look at what happened when the iPad went retina - they needed 4x the GPU cores and had to make the battery 50% larger to get the same life, which made it heavier and also made it take 50% longer to recharge.
I'm definitely getting the premium one
I'll be getting 7a version, i don't really care about that high pixel density, and i'm also not worried about anything it lacks over premium version, and pre-order are going to start 7 of April, 2 months earlier than premium version.

Is battery life such an issue when the device can (reportedly) charge 75% in half an hour?

Unless the phone is chewing more than 150% of it's battery p/h, there will be no need, given the stated charging rate of 75% in half hour.

I think I'll have the 7a for the reasons enumerated by both Entrepoy512 and ireun.
But LG G Pro 2 and OnePlus are really tempting as well.
I would get the Find 7a, but it's hardly an improvement over my Nexus 5 (at least hard to justify, that is): SoC is basically the same; it has 500mAh more battery but screen is bigger, so I don't think it will have such big a difference in life; camera is better, no doubt, but the 8MP OIS camera of the N5 is quite good and it will soon have an improved app (which is the worst part of it) plus I'm on KitKat, AOSP in all its glory...
The Find 7, though, will be a significant improvement, more modern SoC, more memory, amazing screen and all the better camera and battery (3Ah!!!). I think the Find 7 is a phone I can enjoy and keep for a long time, while the 7a is too small an improvement over the N5, specially at Play Store prices... So, I will wait for the full 7 and then, well, I'd love to upgrade (and maybe ColorOS is already updated to KitKat as well, or CM or someone...
for everyone that wants the 7a, i would recommend waiting to see what the OnePlus One will look like. same specs, same camera lens, screen, etc. They say it will be <$400. If you don't know by now, ex-execs of Oppo started their own smartphone company

I'm thinking the same as you, as I also have a Nexus 5. Getting 7a wouldn't be a proper upgrade. I'm eyeing more the 7 and maybe z2.

Been looking into what i can find out about the OnePlus One. Now i am really tempted as i do like using CM and even with the Colour OS on the Oppo i get the feeling i will find even a little bloatware is still too much for me.
It would be nice if the 7a came with 32gb storage.
I'm getting the 7a for multiple reasons:
1. Cheaper
2. Lower resolution means less rendering strain, this also means longer battery runtime.
3. Internal memory becomes irrelevant with an 128gb sdcard, leaving no reason for me to want the pro version.
The only thing I'm concerned about is whether the lite version will find as much acceptance in the xda / devving community as the pro version.
But due to similar, nearly identical, hardware I really hope that Roms will be fine for both models in the long run.

Getting 7a too, with same reasons as McColbird.. plus its harder to find 2k wallpapers
Im curious with MaxxAudio, has anyone compare it with other phones? I barely read its comparison in current reviews.

@MrColdbird
I want to mention, that the Battery of the 7 is also a little bit stronger...
Do u think its unspectacular and not useful ? Makes it no difference ?
And on the other hand the 2k has a higer pixel per inch number and also a stronger cpu with 3gb ram instead of 2gb.
I only want to hear your opinion because I am not sure about it (7 or 7a)
greets
Just wanting some input... I'm thinking about getting the 7a. Currently I have the Note 3. Do yall think switching from the Note 3 to the 7a is worth it? Why or why not?? Thanks for your input if any...

I think the 200 mAh from the bigger 7 battery will be eaten by the higher processor and the higher resolution of the display.
And you will be able to put the larger battery into the 7a, and everything is fine

Nexus 6p or the Pixel XL!!

Hey!
I've sold my Note 7 and I am looking to buy a new one the Nexus 6p or the Pixel XL.
considering the battery life!
another question I know the Nexus 6P come with 3GB of RAM while the Pixel XL come with 4GB.
Is there a big difference?
thanks,
I used my 6p for about 7 months. It is on of the best phones I ever used. However the Pixel XL which I have pre ordered has the Snapdragon 820 which is a much better processor than the 810 from the 6p. The Pixel XL should have better battery life and the camera will be much faster. As a whole the Pixel will be the better phone but the 6p should be a good value for the money based on how much the Pixel's cost.

820 was a typo. The 821 is a known processor. It is a higher binned 820. It should be higher clocked but the Pixels have them clocked lower like the 820 most likely for better battery life.
I'm getting rid of my 6P. There are a number of things I am not 100% satisfied with about it.
But I know others that love their 6P to death.
So each to their own.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
it wouldn't be much of a difference..still no waterproof, speakers on the bottom, no expandable storage, smaller screen, same battery capacity and thats all I can think of
No matter how much of a pig the 810 is, with day to day use there'll be little or no difference with the underclocked 821. There's just not much of an upgrade in the Pixel.
if you have enough mony buy pixel xl if not nexus 6p

The Pixel phones are supposed to have a version of 7.1 that has been specifically optimized for the Pixel hardware for consistent performance throughout the OS and Google claims the Pixel phones have the best touch latency of any Android phone, so you may have a faster more refined experience on the Pixel phones.
The 821 SoC also has "two phase detectors" that give significant improvement in focussing quality and time for the camera. The cameras video stabilization looks much, much better than the 6P too, based on comparison videos a Reddit user provided.
The Pixel phones also have a superior quality DAC (Qualcomm Aqstic), so you'll probably get superior sound quality when listening to sound through the 3.5mm jack.
I love my nexus 6p but I'm outside a lot and in my opinion the screen sucks outside and for my my Bluetooth sucks with my car and headsets .... I had a note 7 awesome display I mean best I've seen and besides it's one downside touchwiz ok well maybe the exploding could be an issue as well lol jk so needles to say that got returned. So for me I'm going to try the pixel xland of the screen and Bluetooth are much better then my 6p I'll be sold but if not I may just stick with the 6p it really is a great phone

I had no major bluetooth issue with mine. I used it everyday to listen to audio books via bluetooth driving to and from work.
Nexus 6p will likely get Android M then it will lose official updates from Google.
Don't get me wrong here I loved my 6p and was by far the best Android phone I had revert used. I have photos that I took that I would have been proud of even if I took it with a 35mm SLR. I sold it when the pixel xl first came out but not because i was dissatisfied in any way but solely because I like having new toys and i probably have more money than brains. Lol.... I'm now stuck using my old Nexus 6 pos till the 20th and deep down I'm expecting an improvement equal to the improvement over the last several Nexus devices. If the pixel shows the same jump as the 6p did from the 6 I will be doing backflips lol...

Pixel XL if you have the $ get the google store version it has unlocked bootloader and all carriers
I'd like to thank all of you guys for these pieces of advice. I think I am going to pick the Pixel XL.
:good:
Tnx for all notes.

What are you smoking! It already has 7.0 Nougat and will get 7.1 in December!
I'd honestly say get which ever one fits in your budget. Pixel will be better in most areas, such as camera, performance, touch latency, battery life, RAM etc. However, the 6P is still a mighty device, with build quality being fantastic, still snappy, camera is very nice (from the pics i've seen with it), 3GBs of RAM is still plenty today. Battery life & touch latency will most certainly be better on the Pixel, but I can't comment on specifics since I only have a Nexus 6 (not 6P). If the Nexus 6P is anything like my 6 battery life wise, I'd say it should be fine. I use ElementalX, Tupac4u's debloated ROM, and Greenify on my Nexus 6, all of which are available on the 6P and my battery lasts all day.

will it worth to upgrade now?

Hello
i have now nexus 6P , and i want to know if i will have longer battery life with the pixel xl 2, or for example with the Huawei Honor 8 Pro, i am regular user that like to connect to wifi and using much whatsapp,
also, it has snapdragon 835, and i read that the new pixel 3 will be with the 845, to wait?

I have the Pixel 2 XL and batterlife is solid for me, i charge every 1,5 day and have about 6-7 hrs. SOT. Both on wifi and 4G and no battery saving mode. The Pixel 3 will take about 10 months to order and in some regions even longer.
Yes wait for the Pixel 3, then wait for the Pixel 4, then get the Pixel 5 as it will have the best battery life and snapdragon X90 chipset
so with the battery what you advice? it's good as nexus 6p or....?[emoji2]

i would upgrade, battery life is much better than 6P, getting same results as post above.
Best battery i've ever had on a smartphone. I use to say my iPhone 7+ had the best and this thing destroys it in terms of how long it lasts. Even standby Apple use to be a lot better and this is just as good if not better now.

Pixel 2 XL handle heavy task nicely.
It only beaten by my 4000mAh backed Huawei Mate 10
