Hey guys!
So I currently have a Galaxy S6 from Verizon, and I am deeply disappointed with it. Since my bootloader is locked, I can't flash any ROMs to improve my terrible battery life. (1.5 hrs SOT, power saving location, power saving mode, auto brightness, etc. Phone still needs to be charger 2 times a day). I was thinking of either getting the OP3 or the Nexus 6P? Is anyone in the same boat as me? I'd love to bounce some ideas around and see what other's recommend.
Since this is oneplus 3 section, I think everyone will say you should get op3. I'd get it myself. Looks a lot better device.

I'm selling my Nexus 6P to buy a OnePlus 3. For me it's all about the dual SIM. Here's what I'll miss about the Nexus 6P (Great phone): QHD display. Stereo speakers at each end of the phone. Also the fingerprint sensor is great: works every time (unlike many I have tried). I hope the OP3 fingerprint sensor will be as good.

Nice, hope you like the OP3! The dual SIM doesn't matter to me, since I only travel internationally once every 2 years or so. Yeah, I feel you on the screen. I'm going to miss the camera and screen of my S6 for sure. From the videos and reviews I've seen/read, it seems like the fingerprint scanner is very good. Seems to function better than that of the S6.

Yeah, but I hope that there are other people out there that are stuck between the two. Especially since the nexus has a price drop atm.

Sorry, I should've clarified. The nexus is on sale in America right now. The 64 GB is going for 480 (however 32 is more than enough for me.)
I'm also considering to sell my 6p to buy the OP3. I have been kind of disappointed in the 6p because of the screen and battery life. My screen goes from a pink bottom to a yellowish top. I'd rather have a good 1080p screen then a bad QHD screen. And like somebody mentioned in the EU I can sell the 6p without paying much extra to get a brand new op3.

You should get 350-400 euro`s on Marktplaats for your 6P depending on the storage size.
I am confused too. I own a 64gb Nexus 6p. Disappointed with sd810. Heats too much while gaming. But the quicker official android updates and dual front firing speakers are awesome. I''' loose better camera too. Though I'll get sd820 and 6gb ram and I will make profit if I sell my 6p and buy op3. Really confused :-/
The problem is mainly the size and price. You get a bit smaller device for less money. Actually i dont like 810 serie, so i would probably stick to OP3 since they open to modding after errors with OP2. Probably 6P is better on CAM+Speakers and MAYBE screen.
I also have a Nexus 6P.
- It's REALLY big.
- I don't like the back fingerprint sensor
I'm considering to switch to the OP3 too..... but Nexus updates are every month and i would like to have android pay work with a rooted phone.....

In the same boat bro. Tell me if you make any decision. I can profit by selling 6P and buying Op3 currently.
What I'll miss if I switched is stereo speakers and quick latest updates !
I was happy with my 6p for a bit, then the crappy aluminum(bent near the charging port) and screen brightness got to me. Should not have to root to see the thing outdoors.
+battery life sucked on mine (usually had trouble getting 3 hours SoT, i get 6 from my mate 8 in the same usage and 10 when using it at home)

If you want to sell it because of screen issues, then I will advice you to wait for reviews of the screen on the Oneplus 3 to see if it has no isues.
Beside the battery i would say that the 3 wins nearly ever, aspect.
The problems i have with the nexus is that they are released only a short period before qualcom releases jts new CPU and then i always want to wait to get a devoce with the new cpu.
Hey!
I've sold my Note 7 and I am looking to buy a new one the Nexus 6p or the Pixel XL.
considering the battery life!
another question I know the Nexus 6P come with 3GB of RAM while the Pixel XL come with 4GB.
Is there a big difference?
thanks,
I used my 6p for about 7 months. It is on of the best phones I ever used. However the Pixel XL which I have pre ordered has the Snapdragon 820 which is a much better processor than the 810 from the 6p. The Pixel XL should have better battery life and the camera will be much faster. As a whole the Pixel will be the better phone but the 6p should be a good value for the money based on how much the Pixel's cost.

820 was a typo. The 821 is a known processor. It is a higher binned 820. It should be higher clocked but the Pixels have them clocked lower like the 820 most likely for better battery life.
I'm getting rid of my 6P. There are a number of things I am not 100% satisfied with about it.
But I know others that love their 6P to death.
So each to their own.

it wouldn't be much of a difference..still no waterproof, speakers on the bottom, no expandable storage, smaller screen, same battery capacity and thats all I can think of
No matter how much of a pig the 810 is, with day to day use there'll be little or no difference with the underclocked 821. There's just not much of an upgrade in the Pixel.
if you have enough mony buy pixel xl if not nexus 6p

The Pixel phones are supposed to have a version of 7.1 that has been specifically optimized for the Pixel hardware for consistent performance throughout the OS and Google claims the Pixel phones have the best touch latency of any Android phone, so you may have a faster more refined experience on the Pixel phones.
The 821 SoC also has "two phase detectors" that give significant improvement in focussing quality and time for the camera. The cameras video stabilization looks much, much better than the 6P too, based on comparison videos a Reddit user provided.
The Pixel phones also have a superior quality DAC (Qualcomm Aqstic), so you'll probably get superior sound quality when listening to sound through the 3.5mm jack.
I love my nexus 6p but I'm outside a lot and in my opinion the screen sucks outside and for my my Bluetooth sucks with my car and headsets .... I had a note 7 awesome display I mean best I've seen and besides it's one downside touchwiz ok well maybe the exploding could be an issue as well lol jk so needles to say that got returned. So for me I'm going to try the pixel xland of the screen and Bluetooth are much better then my 6p I'll be sold but if not I may just stick with the 6p it really is a great phone

I had no major bluetooth issue with mine. I used it everyday to listen to audio books via bluetooth driving to and from work.
Nexus 6p will likely get Android M then it will lose official updates from Google.
Don't get me wrong here I loved my 6p and was by far the best Android phone I had revert used. I have photos that I took that I would have been proud of even if I took it with a 35mm SLR. I sold it when the pixel xl first came out but not because i was dissatisfied in any way but solely because I like having new toys and i probably have more money than brains. Lol.... I'm now stuck using my old Nexus 6 pos till the 20th and deep down I'm expecting an improvement equal to the improvement over the last several Nexus devices. If the pixel shows the same jump as the 6p did from the 6 I will be doing backflips lol...

What are you smoking! It already has 7.0 Nougat and will get 7.1 in December!
I'd honestly say get which ever one fits in your budget. Pixel will be better in most areas, such as camera, performance, touch latency, battery life, RAM etc. However, the 6P is still a mighty device, with build quality being fantastic, still snappy, camera is very nice (from the pics i've seen with it), 3GBs of RAM is still plenty today. Battery life & touch latency will most certainly be better on the Pixel, but I can't comment on specifics since I only have a Nexus 6 (not 6P). If the Nexus 6P is anything like my 6 battery life wise, I'd say it should be fine. I use ElementalX, Tupac4u's debloated ROM, and Greenify on my Nexus 6, all of which are available on the 6P and my battery lasts all day.
I'm with a huge doubt, which one to buy? an OP5T or a GP 2 XL, what I most want is to have a good battery life. But I've been thinking and looking for forums for 3 days but I do not decide. I would be very grateful for your answers and recommendations.

I have the note 8 and the pixel 2 xl { just recieved}
For you it's what's in your budget.
The pixel can be double the cost of the op5t.
I wanted the pixel for the stock andriod experience, camera, and speakers.
My note has wayyy better features but I like the simplicity of the pixel 2 xl
Op5t is the most practical
Don't forget the camera. Pixel 2 has the best camera.

I come from an S7 so if I go for the OP5T I would miss the camera, but I am willing to live without a good camera, but I want a good battery life. Pixel 2 XL has a higher percentage of battery but I do not know if it will be enough to be better than the OP5T in battery.

Most of the new Android phones with SD835 get great battery life. I had the LG V30, and holy cow that thing got off the charts outstanding battery life. Best I've ever had, like 9h Screen On time. And I heard the S8+, OPO5, and other phones also got great battery. I would think the Pixel 2 XL will get slightly better battery life than the 5t

I've just picked up a 2 XL and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not, what I really like is the camera and the speakers, the size, the build, what I don't like is the software (let me explain) I love the smoothness and speed and stock android, what I don't like is Google have gone a bit like apple, you can't even change the font without root (from what I understand only had the phone a day so not 100% on that ) coming from a U11 I'm already missing the theme store and the customisation that offers, so its left me in a dilemma to keep this phone or not, really tempted to send it back and get a U11 plus, but man it's buttery smooth and the battery life seems amazing I've used it a lot today...

I was considering 2 phones: Pixel 2 xl or OP5T
The price tag for Pixel 2 is really giving me pause.
The lack of project treble and supposed poor customer service is making me rethink OP5T.
So judging on value and developer support, the original Pixel might be the way to go.
Is there anything I should know about this device from people who have owned it for a year or more?
I'm especially cautious when it comes to battery degradation. I'm sure I'd still be using my Nexus 6p (happily) if the battery wasn't garbage. Switched to S7 Edge in July and HATE it. Bootloader locked and root only if you use a laggy engineering kernel. I can't wait to ditch it but having a hard time deciding which device to buy.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!
I actually switched from an S7 edge (exynos) to a Pixel XL last year and I can say that I don't regret it.
To resume, the Pixel XL is still a great phone. It still has a solide performance (never had an issue when it comes to that), the camera is still better than most of the cameras of 2018 smartphones and its constantly getting support and updates from Google (until fall 2018).
However, when it comes to battery life I noticed an important degradation. I was getting more than 8h of SOT in about 1d and 1/2 when the phone was new, now I'm having a hard time to reach 6h on stock firmware (you can always fix this with root).
One other downside compared to the S7 edge is the heating. The temperature of my my S7 edge never exceeded 38° C even when playing graphic hungry games in summer, with the Pixel XL it can go much higher than that which causes fast battery drain when gaming.
I hope this can help you

It does help. Thanks!
As for battery degradation, you can run an app called accubattery. It needs like 24 hrs or so to get a proper reading but will measure your battery's total capacity.
My Nexus 6p was at 50% after only 1 year. I was 2 days out of warranty and Huawei refused to do anything.
This is why Huawei Mate 9 is not on my shortlist of phones to buy.
Thanks again for the info!
If you can't get the Pixel 2 then definitely go for the Pixel 2016. It's holding up very good for me too. Great camera still, fantastic smoothness still, and it will be supported for next six months too. I will be using mine for another year at least.
Just those infamous hardware problems you pray that you never face, like that microphone issue.
I switch phones regularly, and had an S8+, then an iPhone X, and now a Pixel XL (that I picked up in like new condition for less than $300 on eBay...). And while I would prefer the taller, more modern display of the Pixel 2, this was a great bargain. I agree with a prior reply, that it's comforting to receive all of the latest updates. Battery life seems as good as any other Android I've had recently. I also agree that it's still an excellent camera for its age. Live wallpaper was a pleasant surprise. If you're a case fan, there are more brand name cases available for the Pixel 2 XL...

We should still get security patches til Oct 2019 though still. Hoping they keep major updates rolling too with treble and all would be a waste to only support this device for 2 years. Hopefully with treble though we can still get unofficial updates even if it just aosp for a good while and there's always lineage and other custom ROMs.
I just picked up new Pixel XL for £200 to replace my OP3. It's great. Love it as much as I did my Nexus 6p back then it released.
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've been on these forums. Currently on my Nexus 6P but looking to upgrade.
I've loved the use of stock & clean android. As well as regular updates and a decent camera. I'm interested in the pixel 2 XL but have seen a lot of bad press about issues.
What is the general consensus on the phone? Would the OnePlus give me a similar android experience? It's supposed to be getting a decent camera too and cost £499. Was interested in people's views!
Cheers!
The only real difference is if you want a really good rom community or if camera is more important.
It's simple If you want better camera with some rom support or root. Get the google 2xl..if you want rom support then go one plus 6

There's a thread on this somewhere on XDA if I'm not mistaken. The opinions I've seen are kinda like the ol Ford vs Chevy debate back in my day. The best summation I can give would be.....
If you want fast, regular security updates and arguably the best camera out there, then the P2XL is the call.
If you want more development, larger ram capacity, and an OK-good camera, then the OP6 is what your looking for.
Again, this is a very short synopsis

Along with horrible QC, the avg replacement device being 4 (not for blue shift either) lol(I'm on replacement #8). It's no longer the best camera. Stereo speakers are pretty meh, stock has it's pros but a crap ton of cons. Op gets fast updates as well lol, squeeze google assistant isn't a deal breaker. Google photos is like 3.00 a month for 100gb, the "free" isn't that impressive. No doubt pixel 2 xl isn't the obvious choice anymore lol. Also OP is 300.00 less lol and better build quality.

Well I bought 1 and I'm happy, there's blue shift but hopefully not so much. To me it's the best on HDR and that's why I bought it too. Well the best stereo speakersare those from ipx and i8p , and to me those on pixel are ok . Fast updates it's on the same week to me. Squeeze isn't a deal breaker but a nice feature. No Google photos are free and the full quality. Don't get me wrong I got op5t too,
But to me the pixel it's much "smarter" then the others mobiles

Interesting to see some of these replies! Pretty much the debate I'm having in my head haha. I love my Nexus as it's as great now as it was on day one... No bloatware and up until Oreo 8.1 fast updates.
I think for me the camera is hugely important. If one plus can release a camera that is better than the pixel 2 XL ... Then that may do it for me! Good to here they have fast(ish) updates too. Rumours are OnePlus 6 will have a triple digit dxomark I think!
Im the guy who keep buying a new phone in 2 or 3 months, I switched back and forth from any flagahips on the martket but there is always a few little things that keep bothering me to change a new phone until i got pixel 2 xl last week and its the perfect one.

All of the above pros for the Pixel XL 2... it's a gold mine of goodies!

Loved my Nexus 6p and if it wasn't for the battery issues I'd probably still have it however I do really like the pixel. I don't really see the issues that have been reported. If you can afford both phones then the pixel is the one for me

See, pixel has only one camera and still scored the highest but all these phones s9+ p20pro have 2 or 3 camera henceforth the triple digit figures
If pixel had secondary camera such as telephoto then it would also had a 100+ score
If you want to compare the dxo mark ratings then compare the main lens rating on their site
P20 pro vs pixel 2xl on youtube evry video in the end says they would go with pixel because it is consistent
Cheers ?

I think the same and all the videos that I saw the HDR it's always better on pixel 2,
Better portrait on the market
Better HDR on the market
2nd or 3rd on low light, even though I still think pixel got it better.
Better color accuracy
Etc etc
The only one thing that the pixel camera doesn't do it better, it's the zoom , well that's normal with only one camera

I use to change roms every week but now I do prefer stability and security.
One plus got 8.1 and I'm already on 9.0 that's a huge difference, and Will be always like that.
If oneplus 6 support VZW...bye bye Pixel 2 XL. The oneplus is a quality, low profile/thin bezel phone with great dev support from their company and online on XDA. They won't say if they are going to support VZW yet, but heard they are looking for a US partner in the coming 6 months. The Pixel 2 XL is so bulky, thick top/bottom space, and the features of the OS are lagging behind a few things that the OnePlus Beta 5T phone currently has that the 6 will have baked in, like fling/nonav bar gestures like iPhone. They've had it for months in the beta, all the apps are scaled to use the screen space without the bar...not such thing in the standard Android/Pixel OS builds, and then, not done at all or very well. I know devs try their best, but it isn't proper.
Only thing about OnePlus is the camera, next one should be much better hopefully. But then again, unless it works on Verizon...doesn't really matter, and my choices are limited for modding/bootloader unlocking etc..to the Google phone really, or HTC.
Thanks very much for all the advise guys! Great to see arguments for both phones haha!
Currently can get the Pixel 2 XL for £600 from carphone warehouse. The OnePlus 6 is likely to be £500.
I think the make or break for me is going to be the camera. I'll wait and see what the camera is when the OnePlus 6 is officially announced on 16th may. If the camera is better that may sway it for me, if not I'll get the pixel 2 XL!
