I am using a ROM that's pre rooted and was trying to run magisk and automagisk and install phh's super su to use Android pay. I have installed all the above and was able to add bank card but it failed when I tried to use Android pay. I figure there are still traces of the original root from the ROM. How would I go about removing root all the way and flashing phh superuser to get Android pay to work.
Thanks

Morning all!
Possibly a silly question but I run 100% stock because of one app that will not work when rooted - Sky Go (a UK video streaming app). There is nothing that has got it to work when rooted so I've not bothered. I don't even need root access these days. BUT I'd like to give CM11 a go and I was wondering if you can turn off the root access in the ROM and then use a stock kernel and it would still boot/run?
If not, not to worry but seeing as CM11S does't have root it'd be nice to see the same available for other phones and not just the OnePlus One
I guess you could run the super su zip in recovery and then full unroot it through the app. Not sure if you'll run into any issues in cm without root, never tried it before

Kinda what I was thinking, it's the kernel I'm more worried about as that needs to be a secure kernel otherwise the app won't work
Might just have to give it a try...

No, otherwise I would've used it
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak
App: Sky Go - BSkyB - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bskyb.skygo
Method: Most likely detects root via native library (built with Android NDK). Unsure of exact method, but the Java portion of the app contains "VGDRM_STATUS_DEVICE_IS_ROOTED = -41942891", and based on the library name, it's a safe bet.
Relevant Files: libvgc.so
I think Sky Go looks for more than root doesn't it? I think it looks at kernel and software version also, so if you are running anything "custom" it instantly thinks you are rooted.
I just set up a separate rom on my Nexus 7 (Using multirom) for this exact reason.

Hello XDA Developers! How are you doing?
I just got a Notification that, an update is available for my N7 2013. I guess it is the 4.4.3 one.
So, I rooted it with the Nexus Toolkit when I got the Tablet and have since then gotten around playing with Xposed (GravityBox[KK], Youtube AdAway, Instagram Downloader and AppOpsXposed).
My Questions now are the following:
Should I just OTA Update or should I take my Nexus Toolkit and use that?
Do I have to uninstall all the Xposed stuff? (everything on the latest stable version offered to me)
Is it necessary to Root again or is the Kernel still rooted afterwards?
Any resets necessary? Just a cache one?
Thanks in advance for your answers!
Best Regards

Give this thread a read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523217. It's simple to understand and super informative when it comes to updating OTAs. I know it's in the Nexus 5 forums, but the same principals apply.

Thanks allot! Read through but still got some questions:
If I want to OTA I have to go completely Stock I understand this now but, if I use the Nexus Toolkit, do I still need to Uninstall everything Xposed related and go back to stock first? Or just uninstall everything Xposed and continue with the Toolkits FW Flashing and afterwards re-rooting?
OR just use the Toolkit and everything is good to go?
Thanks again!

Not exactly sure how the toolkit works to update. I don't use them since I'm not a fan of toolkits. If it just boots you into custom recovery and flashes the OTA, then you need to be stock (with Xposed Framework uninstalled). If it boots you into the bootloader and fastboot flashes the individual image files, you don't need to uninstall, but you will need to reinstall/activate the framework after booting into 4.4.3. You'll also need to re-root, unless the toolkit does that for you too after updating.

Alright thanks again!
It has been quite some time since I last used it so I googled it again and found this http://nexus5.wonderhowto.com/how-t...ndroid-4-4-3-without-losing-any-data-0155334/
In the end there is this
You should now be up to date, with root and custom recovery restored and all of your data intact. If you use Xposed, you'll have to install the framework again for your modules to become active.

So I guess I am okay with it!
Thank you very much for your help!
I tried the systemless root method several times.. None of it works.
If my superSU app says I'm rooted, Android pay doesn't work. Only way to get it working again is if I UNROOT using the superSU tool.

Root with the systemless root method, and delete "/su/xbin_bind". Android Pay will work. However, you might break root compatibility with older apps that haven't been updated.

Can confirm this allowed me to add my CC again, have not yet tried paying yet. I have 2.66 beta, and using AdAway, TiBu, and Greenify. So far no issues.
am I deleting the whole SU folder? or just the XBIN_BIND?

Just XBIN_BIND

yes, mine definitely works.
FYI, greenify breaks it, just having it installed for me (even if disabled)
adaway does not have to though, long as you flash the systemless hosts zip file before installing and applying it
I would like to know if once you fully root your phone and go S-Off can you still use Android pay?
I haven't rooted yet but plan on doing so but just want to be fully aware of what I would lose by rooting. Also outside of Android pay is there anything else you would lose or won't work correctly after root.
Oh and sorry if this has been said before, I at least didn't see quickly anything posted about this...

Via systemless root, yes, you can indeed use Android Pay. You lose nothing by rooting (apart from the ability to take OTAs with TWRP installed).

Do you have a link for this method? Maybe I'm blind or just overlooked it but couldn't find using my xda app on my phone.

Indeed. Install TWRP and root following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/guide-root-optionally-s-off-radio-t3373025
I might be mistaken, but I heard that even with systemless root, android pay doesn't work

its working still. flash the super user in the guide. don't modifiy anything in system and should be fine to use. but just being s-off and unlocked 100% wont effect AP at all, its the act of modifying the system is what breaks it.

You're mistaken.
Hi, I've unfortunately not followed what, for me, would have been the most important bit of this excellent guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/guide-root-optionally-s-off-radio-t3373025
Namely the line that would have enabled me to flash SuperSU and maintain encryption rather than blundering in and flashing the latest SuperSU regardless...doh!
The most important thing for me is to be able to use Android pay which obviously now I can't.
Can I undo my stupidity?......or not?
I just got the ota on a new phone. One
my old one I was running pure nexus with systemless root with echo commands
On this one I'm non rooted on N
My question is, is there a way to systemless root and all without losing data? I saw a post about the CF auto root not wiping data. Can I run that, then run the unroot, then systemless root?
Are you sure CF auto root doesn't install systemless root? And why do you need systemless over system root?
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
I forgot to add that the only reason I want this is for the extended location menu in the status bar quick settings

You should check on systemless and Android pay. I think even that breaks it.

It wasn't breaking it about a month ago. As long as you do the echo commands it had been working for me.
Systemless root works fine with TWRP 3.0.2-2 and SuperSU 2.76 +
Will not wipe data, provided that your bootloader is already unlocked.

No idea on that. I used fastboot flash recovery twrp. Boot into recovery, install superSU. Pretty easy but need a computer to flash TWRP.
