Hi XDA! Need some help if anyone can offer ideas. This morning while having my morning joe my HTC 10 capacitive keys stopped working. So I did the obvious thing and attempted to restart the device, after which it ended up in a bootloop. It'll go to the HTC splash screen, scree will go dark and it reboots. Rinse, repeat.
I have tried to go into download mode by pressing volume down and it won't boot to that screen either. The download mode 'HTC' logo comes up and again it reboots back to the standard splash screen after a minute.
The most I can do it get into bootloader mode. And from there I can not get into recovery or download mode in order to try an RUU. I have it plugged into the charger right now and there is no charger light. I tried to run RUU.exe from the PC and it says the device is less than 30% battery so it can't continue the RUU.
The phone is S-OFF and bootloader unlocked however I was running the stock US unlocked software - no root, no other modifications.
Any ideas fellow XDA'ers? I'm afraid I have a bricked device, which is strange since I didn't do anything unusual with it, other than s-off and bootloader unlock, change the CID and MID, in order to convert the t-mobile device into the unlocked US version.
Any suggestions much appreciated!
Did you ever figure out how to fix your phone, @Acheman. I'm having the same exact issue and i'm not sure i'll ever get my phone working again.

Sorry! I was never able to fix it. Unfortunately I bought it second hand so I didn't bother trying to contact HTC directly. I ended up selling the phone as is on swappa boneyard. Saw some other threads floating around with a few other users experiencing the same thing. No one mentioned getting it fixed.
Best of luck, it's a shame some people are experiencing this strange issue.

HI. Okay, so a couple weeks ago, I received a notification from HTC that said there was a new update available. Since I had S-Off and an unlocked bootloader (don't ask why, I just ****ing do.) I could not update, as it would give me errors, and cancel the update. So, earlier today I was fed-up with how slow my phone was being, and I wanted to fix it by updating. So I scoured XDA and found a thread about how to update by updating the HBoot or whatever. I followed those instructions and everything was fine, until I got to the initial part of installing the new **** through RUU. It was running fine, and then all of a sudden, the phone disconnected and ****ed the installation up. My battery was fully charged, and still has a charge as I am writing this. I digress. Whenever I would try to power my phone on, I would feel THREE (3) vibrations, and nothing would happen after. I tried booting into the stock recovery (fastboot, recovery, etc) and would still get THREE (3) vibrations. Bricked. So, I looked through a few threads on XDA, and found a few ways to fix it. Something about a Blind HBoot, or a Qualcomm Diagnostic Mode being stuck or something. Figured it was my best shot to try these. I tried them all. I put the PG76IMG.zip into my SD card, and booted up when holding Volume down, and only got THREE (3) vibrations. The tutorial said I was supposed to get FIVE (5) vibrations. So, I thought maybe it was something strange, and kept going through the tutorial. After five minutes, I'm supposed to press VOL UP, and should feel THREE (3) vibrations. Nothing happened. I waited and waited and tried again, and still, nothing. My phone is still lying here as a paperweight, and I want to get this working, so I can sell it because this phone is too much of a ****ing hassle for me. NOTHING HAS WORKED. ROMS, KERNELS, NOTHING. HAS. WORKED. I'M TIRED OF IT. I'm not a noob, I've been working with Android phones for a long time, and have never quite used an HTC device before. I had a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (CDMA) and it lost it's flash after I had moved to a different state. (The state I'm in does not have any towers for that carrier here.) SO. Can ANYONE give me a HIGHLY DETAILED tutorial, STEP BY STEP, to fix my phone?

ok, im not saying i can get it going again but i`ll do my best to help. lets start from the beginning, what actually works atm? you say when you try boot up the phone in any way it just vibrates 3 times.
does it do anything else, does the screen light up?
does it even stay on?
when you connect it to the charger does the led still light up?
have you tried to connect it to the pc? have you tried to connect it too the pc with volume down first?
all seem very basic stuff obviously but if the pc can register it in hboot we might be able to get a ruu running on it.
Found this on a different thread...
Nevermind. Just realized you were still getting three vibrates. Sorry man. I'll keep an eye out if I see anything else that might help.
what is your hboot version? i was see 1.09.099 like in forum maybe you can start with update hboot.
you can use adb for all of this works. download a ruu and run it. after some steps you can find rom.zip in windows/temp extract it to a folder like c:\android\rom and use adb for install all *.img files. maybe it can fix that problem

seriously , adb can install img files ?!
Alright, well, I called htc and told them about my problem, and I might have to just send it in. BUT. I had my phone rooted, and had CM Recovery on it. So, since nothing is booting up at all, only the three vibrates when trying to enter either boot mode, will they be able to see that I had it rooted or anything? They said they'll charge 35$ just to ship it back in the same condition if it is. Can't really afford anything like that right now.
tl;dr I had my phone rooted, but nothing on my phone comes up, will they see my root or anything?
if you are rooted you are probably s-off or at least have unlocked bootloader. and both they will find out very easily.
Sorry for my bad it was fastboot.exe you can install .img files with fastboot.exe i was installed stock recovery with that

I rooted my HTC One X and unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev earlier this year. Recently I have had this problem with the phone where it bugs out. Sometimes in the middle of using the phone the screen will turn off and on showing the unlock screen while the Home buttons pulsate white.
So I did a factory reset and the phone seemed to work quite well not as buggy. After I had to revive it by leaving it on the charger for a couple hours.
I also have clockwork recovery still installed and I made a back up image that you guys talk about. The boot.img which I made after I rooted and facotry reset it. I don't think you can even get the boot img without it have that recovery program.
My question is should I try and mess with it some more? Should I re root it? I just want it function with out breaking now is my goal.
And is there any way to hide that whole "This is HTC software... do not distribute " message that comes up when I boot the phone? Because I know this voided my warranty but if I could get rid of that message my warranty is through a third party so I might be able to get a replacement if I can get that boot message off.
After re rooting it it seemed to calm down and the frequency of restarting was down significantly.
Now after a week, it is starting to restart again. Should I of flashed the kernel? I see that throw around a lot here in these forums but I don't know if it pertains to my situation. Anything help would be appreciated.

I think you might have soft bricked your phone. Search the forum how to unbrick a soft-bricked phone. That might help
Are you positive that your WFS is GSM -marvel-a510e ?
Also ,Could you be a bit more specific about what happens when you try to go to boot-loader mode or when you try to boot it.
As in the provided link, did you have to perform procedure 3 or did you perform procedure 2 and was it working? A bit more info about what you did could help others analyze the issue

At the link i did the procedure 1 because my phone couldn't update to 2.3.5 so i tried to update it that way.
when i start the phone it just flashes it's screen and then goes off. it doesn't show htc logo or anything it just flashes some pixels. the loop is so frequent that it happens in 3 sec. Even if i try to start the phone by pressing "volume -" key and "power" key it does same thing, just loops every 3 sec.
I have tried to find a way to fix this but it seem that there is nothing to do because i can't boot to recovery. Is there a way to put the phone to recovery in other way or is here a way to make factory install?
It's really hard to do anything to this phone because my pc won't recognize it in any possible ways and it won't boot to recovery mode.
Do anyone know if i split the phone in to pieces and then manage to boot it or find the system memory and change files in there.

Even if you want to unbrick the device using back-toback tool , you need to enter the boot-loader mode.
Even for other ways, still it needs to be detected by the PC so that we can pass commands using ADB.
Sorry Dude, I can't help much either I am new to this myself. But i hope somebody here will definitely help you
2. There is a possibility that you could "brick" or bootloop your phone. There are two types of brick: soft (recoverable) and hard (non-recoverable). With a soft brick, the phone will not boot or keeps rebooting ("bootloop"), but it can be started in bootloader mode which allows repair of the ROM. With a hard brick, the phone won't even boot into bootloader after holding the power button for 10 seconds and the phone must be returned to HTC for service.

Have you unlocked your Boot-Loader from HTC Dev? Also, you need to install a recovery tool in order to boot into recovery. If you have done only the steps mentioned in the
PROCEDURE 1

then you haven't unlocked the boot loader and no recovery is also installed (I believe) . In this case, I think this is a hard-brick(Correct me if am wrong) which is impossible to recover . Anyways, we shall await other replies from DEVs here in the Forum.

I tried to unlock the bootloader but it wanted 2.3.5 so i tried to install the new version. now it can't do anything. Well this didn't broke my heart because the phone is pretty worthless . now i have to buy new phone sooner than i planned but still all help is still accepted.
Hi, exactly the same for me : I bought the phone 2 years ago and immediately unbranded it with a goldcard, but never tried to unlock it because it was my wife's and I didn't want to risk anything.
Now she got a new phone, I wanted to play a little with the Wildfire S ^^.
In order to unlock the phone on htcdev I had to update it from 2.13.401.2 to 2.13.401.3, with RUU because can't update with OTA (different CID), with goldcard inside.
After the RUU finished, it says "congratulations everything went well", but actually the phone does not boot, stocked in a loop "quick flash / turns off", can't access bootloader, no USB detection for ADB.
Can't send it to HTC because the 2 years warranty is expired, how ironic !
So... if anyone does know or see any trick that could help to boot anything on this "seems to be hard-bricked" kid... huge thanks to you
I updated to the latest firmware version to be able to use Insert Coin 5.0.1. The problem is that after doing that, my phone is only showing the HTC logo and the white screen.
If I plugged it into the PC it recognizes the phone and when I boot it even plays the music, it is like it is working but I can only see the HTC white screen with the logo.
I have tried to install a custom recovery, trried to get back to stock but the problem is that I didn't have USB debugging enabled so ADB will never recognize the phone.
Is there any way to bring the phone back or did I just turned into an expensive paperweight?
Edit 1: My sister in law just called me and I was able to accept the call. At least that shows the phone is working, is just the stupid logo screen won't go away.
Edit 2: i went back to the previous firmware version, but the same issue remains. I don't know what else to do, any ideas please help!
I guess it doesn't matter anymore. I ended up buying a new M8 on Amazon...
However, if someone knows how to fix my problem, I would really love it to at least sell the one that went bad.

what model is your phone ? you can RUU back to factory settings. all you need is the MID / CID and Software version (.401 / .521 / .502 /.1540 ...etc)
theirs also a bunch of stock nandroid backups here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Hey guys my verizon g4 is stuck in bootloop and im not rooted, i cant get the past the lg boot screen, it stays on their for around 20 seconds goes black and back to lg screen.
I can get into recovery but none of the options do anything ive tried safe mode, usb debug mode i even tried factory reset they all just go back to the lg screen.
I was just watching a video on facebook when it froze restarted and now im stuck, ive been restarting it all day and i was able to get it to boot up twice but it froze again within seconds any help is appreciated
it might be the defective motherboard issue that people are having. you could try reflashing the system, but if that doesn't work you probably need a new motherboard/phone
Not an answer, but an experience.
I have an HTC ONE M8, VZW. I s-offed it and rooted it right when I got it. I began adding some of my google apps and it did what your G4 is doing, stuck on VZW screen.
Since I was s-off I was able to get a recovery in and ready. I was able to get a custom rom onto the phones external sd. I flashed it with the recovery and the flash took, no more vzw screen lock up.
Your experience makes me wonder what VZW is doing to force bootloops on unlocked or rooted phones with their retail products. Paranoid maybe, but I can see VZW deliberately adding code to stick it to rooted users.....................................I say this still knowing that many have rooted the current run of devices without issues...........................
luck
i read about the problems with the motherboard going bad, im assuming thats what happened to mine. Lg sent me a replacement under warranty
Update!
i called verizon they sending me a replacement. just to let you know i flashed 13B KDZ but the bootloop was still there i let my phone on and finally turned on quickly i did a factory reset and booted up normal and its working again. still im gonna send it back. just sharing my experience maybe for other people might work too.

What is the 13B KDZ and how did you flash it? Im having same exact issue.
My G4 tanked over the weekend. I was browsing news and the phone locked up, then it shut off and turned back on. It just bootloops now. If I stick it in the freeze for a few minutes, sometimes it will boot to the OS where it starts to optimize the apps. It will get through about 20 before it shuts off and starts the bootloop process again. I haven't even been able to get the download mode to stay on, and when it does enter download mode, it is not detected by the computer. I think my problem is the motherboard. I'm just hoping that they aren't able to figure out I had it rooted!
I'm still waiting to hear back from Verizon about a replacement.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can flash a stock rom back on this thing to try to save my tail? I am betting not since the phone won't stay on long enough to even flash the rom.

They mailed me a new one, no battery, no back. I put my battery, sim card, sd card, and back on the new phone, fired it up. Rolled it back, rooted it, then I mailed the old one back.
Personally, I love this phone, but I think I will be getting a nexus next.
