I have an issue with my Lg G3 LS990 touch screen digitizer glass. The glass popped up from left bottom and can see the light clearly. So, thought of replacing the glass. I saw in aliexpress that Touch screen digitizers are available. So is only glass replacement is possible in G3 ? Display is very fine. I happened to see in youtube videos that only LCD replacement is done but not Glass digitizer replacement. Could anyone clear my doubt? had anyone replaced their only glass and using it without any issues?
You can do it but it's quite difficult and there's a risk of damaging the LCD so if I were you I wouldn't even try as it requires a certain experience repairing cellphones. Your best option so far will be replacing LCD + digitizer which most likely comes as one piece
whole lcd digitizer with frame ain't that expensive at ebay, i had cracked digitizer and fastest and easiest way to fix it was just to replace whole assembly.

Actually i have already ordered the digitizer from aliexpress.com. As they are selling only digitizers, i thought it is possible to eplace only glass. So u mean to say that replacing only glass isnt possible? What are the chances of working if i only replace glass but not whole assembly?
Sent from my LGLS990 using XDA-Developers mobile app
replacing just glass is possible but it requires special tools and it's quite complicated task to do, replacing whole assembly can be done just under 10 minutes with screwdriver.
As far as i know lcd and digitizer are glued together, you need to warm that adhesive to separate those and lcd needs to be glued to new digitizer and in this phase i think you need OCA or LOCA glue and UV lamps or something like that... So at that point of the replacing glass process i tought it would be easier to just by that whole assembly

Is it not possible to replace without LOCA and UV u mentioned? Just normal procedure doesnt works? The seller is sending me all tools and sticker. Didnt they suffecient enough to replace?

I quess LOCA is liquid and OCA is sticker, same stuff different format. It is possible to do, but without good tools and enough experience i doubt it works or looks good. I have been repairing electronic equipment for years on work but i still wont try to change that digitizer at home because i don't have that kind of tools here...
if you need information about that process look samsung digitizer replace videos from youtube, phone is different but process it self ain't that much different.

hi 1st off sorry if this has been posted, i have had a quick look but could see anywhere.
i dropped my DHD and the screen smashed. i can still use the phone and have been for some months now. i have a screen protector on it or the glass would have fallen out. i am looking at getting it fixed but ive been quoted between £50 - £100. i have looked on ebay and can find a digitizer for £20 and found a video on youtube to follow.
before i buy the digitizer off ebay i just want to be sure that it is the digitizer that is smashed not the lcd but im not sure.
thanks in advance
It's the digitizer.

be very careful , i wouldn't recommend this operation to somebody without experience.
The lcd is glued to the frame and is very hard to remove it, you need a lot of patience, and after that you need to unglue the digitizer form the LCD, another risky operation.
If you succeed probably the bezel that surrounds the LCD will be bent and ugly and the digitizer won't be flush with the housing, you need to reapply glue so it will stick well to the LCD.
Talking from experience....
and btw the quotes your getting are ranged between £50 - £100 because they'll probably just replace the whole LCD+digitizer assembley

Anyone has suggestion on defy front glass casing with digitizer and lcd attached? It easier to fix then seperate digitizer and lcd screen
Have you looked around on Amazon?

Try cnn.cn
Hi,
I had to replace the screen on my defy once. It was a major chore. I ended up scratching the frame while prying off the screen (its stuck on with some pretty strong glue). I also had to use my own glue - I used water proof clear silicon. When I got it together, my Defy looked beat up. The silicon was too thick and I ended up cracking the frame near the screws.
I recently ordered the housing, screen from: www.cnn.cn . And while it was expensive, it came with a sticky outline that I used to easily replace the screen. I was able to discard the frame of my first defy with the nicks. The end results is that my defy looks like new, even though the back and side might have some nicks and cuts.
I think the store ships from HK. It took a while for it to arrive, but it usually does arrive. I'd recommend it.
-------
EDIT: I just reread and you probably will just need to replace the LCD and not the Digitizer. The Digitizer is glued on to the frame but the LCD underneath is free and pushed by the mainboard to the digitizer. You do not need to replace the digitizer in order to correct the LCD issues. In anycase, the choice is yours. CNN.cn does not sell the LCD however.

Wow thanks buddy!! The digitizer is working 100%, usable. The only problem is black dead pixel even reboot to recovery mode, the black dot still can be seen in blue wordings in recovering mode. Since the changing the LCD doesn't require changing the digitizer, That save lots of money.
Heard LCD sceen has to be OEM cos compatibe may not boot up?

I would always go with oem. The lcd is buy far way more expensive than the digitizer unfortunately. Good luck.
Just had someone bring me a Galaxy Note 2 to repair and they bought the replacement part off ebay. However all they have got is just a front piece of glass with no digitizer attached, is this correct? Normally im used to front screens having the digitizer attached or is it easy to detach from the broken old screen
Is there a guide anywhere for this?
There's a few threads on this around, but as far as I know, you need to use a heat gun to remove the glue on the digitizer.

no way mate. don't bother to anything with that cheapo. glass is always attached to the digitizer. they bought the cheapest thing they found.
i have found over the years that saving some money is not the best choice in comparison to user experience or other arising problems.

this is cheaper than ebay which they ask for 166 pounds
Yeah, heat gun will melt the adhesive enough to separate the lcd. But its a very, very difficult process that will more likely than not end up with a damaged lcd or poor reseal.

mariosraptor is right. Glass is always sold with digitizer (it is one item). I haven't heard about clean glass without capacitive layer. You can buy either digitizer glass or complete digitizer glass with factory glued LCD module. This one's more expensive, but you have less work with replacing.
Anyway: buying only digitizer glass for this kind of phones (Note 2, S3, iPhone 4<, newer HTCs...) is waste of time and nerves. It is nearly impossible to separate LCD from digitizer. Buying complete set of digitizer & LCD is the best what you can do for your phone.
Yeah i didn't think the glass came seperate from the digitizer, i have repaired over 400 iphones and have done about 20 galaxy s2 and s3's and never have i seen just the piece of glass without a digitizer on it, i will tell the woman she needs a whole new screen, i think she did go for the cheapest option
This is actually what she ordered:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Gray-...s=63&clkid=5413496726471672632&_qi=RTM1319883
It obviously doesn't have flex, so it is only pure glass. I don't understand, why would any serious seller offer this kind of items.
I dropped my g3 and cracked the digitizer... the screen is still fine... but I can't find any diy tutorials for digitizer replacement...
anybody know some tutorials or videos?

You will need a LCD digitizer separating machine since the digitizer is hermetically sealed to the LCD. These machines can be found on eBay ranging anywhere between $100 to $300 or more. Look here on how to disassemble the LG G3.
http://www.etradesupply.com/blog/cost-of-repairing-a-cracked-screen-on-the-lg-g3/
This website lists the component costs of the glass, digitizer, lcd and lcd assembly. You may just want to send it to LG for repair if you have phone insurance. The deductible is cheaper than the total cost of the parts and separating machine. Here is the URL for separating the digitizer. http://www.etradesupply.com/blog/replace-glass-screen-galaxy-smartphones/
Although it says galaxy smartphones, the procedure is the same for all smartphones.

I read somewhere on another post that you could just use beans or rice to heat up the screen and seperate it. but how do you glue back the new digitizer?

Didn't you read the second link I listed? Step #4 Double sided adhesive and roll out air pockets after adhering the digitizer to glass. Then place in vacuum machine to remove all air pockets. Never heard of rice and beans method. Do you eat the rice and beans afterwards?
Hi guys. I shattered my touchscreen glass a few weeks ago, and i bought the replacement glass from ebay for just 4 squid. I have been watching tutorials on YouTube on how to change it on other phones, but i am yet to find one for oneplus 3 or ar least a deep dissasembly video. Have you guys stumbled upon any video or info that would be useful for mg case? Cheers

Very useful video, but that shows how to replace the entire assembly (touch+display) which costs about 100£. Money which i'm not willing to pay. I want if possible to replace only the glass. Thanks, Cheers
When I cracked my screen ( I got insurance) they replace touch, display and finger print so I don't know it's possible to fix only glass.

Yes its possible to replace glass only by seprating it from Lcd but it is very risky it might damage digitizer then u have to replace whole screen thats very costly I ll Recommand U to go to Nearby Mobilr Repairing Stores and Replace Glass by Professional
Thank You
Possible, but take in mind, that display assembly is glued to frame with hard to remove glue. Replaced few, a lot of time, precision and will be success.

yeah, i did some research, and you have to heat it up to 95 celsius then carefully separate the glass from the digitiser with floss or a play card. did u actually managed to remve the glass only or the whole assembly?
It's easy part. First remove display assembly from frame without breaking it.
