Is there any way to avoid this?
Today i got a message informing me about a firmware update that will be performed tomorrow and will limit the battery to 60%.
I don't have the time and patience to go through this exchange programme. Phone is rooted but it has the original stock rom.

Whoa its coming... btw, what version's yours?

Yes:
1. Pop a few NZTs.
2. Exchange explosive devise for non-explosive device.
3. Profit

You can use Package Disabler Pro to disable system updates and Knox. That has blocked it on mine.

Sounds like a plan.
So i disabled:
Knox (com.sec.knox.switcher)
KnoxAppsUpdateAgent (com.samsung.knox.appsupdateagent)
Software Update (com.sec.android.soagent + com.wssyncmldm)
UrgentFWUpdateSensorHub (com.samsung.firmware.sendorhub)
UrgentFWUpdateTSP(com.samsung.android.firmware.tsp)
Security Policy Update (com.policydm)
Would these do the job? Have you disabled others as well?
Thanks

This has all of what I've disabled. No problems with anything. Just import it. Samsung pay works too. If something you use is disabled you re-enable it.

just got this notification a few moments before!
it says in German that I will get an update tomorrow, which will confirm my phone as safe with the green battery icon (which I do not want nor like btw)!
THE FUNNY THING IS:
my phone was a pre-order from Amazon Germany, I got it on Sept. 1st
so not all early devices are affected!!

Thanks for the list; it blocked 95 packages, none will be missed.
I've no intention to return the phone, I'll keep it until it explodes or till S8 in February, whichever comes first

i already thought about that, but why then make 2 different messages??
before i saw the OP message i thought that could be, but now i'm almost sure the messages are based on what IMEI you have, and samsung knows what production charges are affected...

The link below is where I got the xml from. I added some of my own and removed others but there is an extreme version as well. Most people use the basic but the extreme can work too. It's from the Note 5 forums.

So is this saying your phone is safe and battery will go green?
Or is it saying it will change colour to green if it is safe?

Could be as you say, i think you put too much faith in them. They just try to cover their behind the best they can.
I provided them with the IMEI when the program started, via a webform because they initially said they will post the replacement and collect the [potential] bomb upon delivery. My issue with them is that now they expect the mobile provider to exchange it. Vodafone said i'll have to give it back and wait until a replacement becomes available (i.e. they don't care).

mine has been replaced but I got the same green battery message in the UK just now. but my phone was manufactured the back end of August, so I would assume some later devices are probably fine anyway.

it's probably deep coded in the firmware leading to it needing a root to do since it is also on the power options screen, so all I would assume is rooted devices would be treat as unrepaired.

To make the galaxy note charge
Now how?
Im saw this video on how someone made it work himself, and i though i can do that too, without having wires out of the back
Im using the same method but i will be making the wires go to the side of the device (next to the battery) and make it look like the galaxy note 2 wireless charging "port"
I will be doing wires along the side of the battery (under the cover ofcourse)
(dont mind this pic,its not mine, its from google. (dafuq, nfc?))
This is a cheap solution, i hope it works, I yet have to recieve all the products before i start to work, i will be updating this when i recieve products

how can you determine the manufacturing date of an LG G4?

also is there upgradable firmware in this phone? (not referring to the ROMs we are flashing, I mean the firmware for the phone's hardware itself, nothing to do with Android)
There is an App which is called LG phone info. You should see the manufacturing date with it
First 3 digits of serial number are year/month in ymm format. 507: 5 = 2015, 07 = July.
Are people checking because of the rumors faulty motherboard?

no, and why would it matter, your G4's rewritable internal memory can handle 1000's of flashes throughout its lifetime!
Well, mines is having crazy sections of bootloops for no apparent reason. When it happens it can't enter Recovery. It bootloops even from download mode. When I manage to successfully flash a Kdz, bootloops still come back again after some time. And guess the manufacturing date
check the date in http://imeidata.net/check?imei=<your imei> and go to warranty (or directly http://imeidata.net/warranty/lg?imei=<your imei> )

It was on May. Now it is totally useless stuck in bootloops. Maybe it is the most common manufacturing date and the buggy devices might represent a low %, but not all made on that batch.

I have had two g4 that were purchased at same time fail right at the 12 mos
They were both 508 date code
Luckly they both replaced under warranty
When they failed they would get stuck at boot screen "lg life is good" sometimes going through endless restarts or just shutting off where you need to pull battery to get it to try again
Data was recovered by freezing. I put in a zip lock bag in freezer for half hour. It would then boot normally. Needed to keep cold entire time, once it heats up it will stop. So use a bucket of ice or run your usb cable out of your freezer while downloading. Tried using a hair dryer to heat, but that method only worked once for a few minutes.
This is a manufacturing defect, some kind of bad solder joint or similar issue.
From my research, appears to happen more often in summer months, like you leave phone in hot car and a weak solder joint gives out. Heating and cooling works to temporarily cause the electrical connection to work through thermal expansion or contraction.

Anyone tempted to just keep the Note 7?

So my Note 7 arrives today, firstly i was hunting round Korea trying to find one when I was there on holiday but everywhere was sold out. Then i missed the UK launch day preorders so i finally bit the bullet and ordered from from.ae
The day after i ordered Samsung made the recall announcement but the phone had already been dispatched, I now either use it and hope for the best due to it only being 35 devices so far or i pay again for shipping, custom charges etc. Taking all that into account getting it replaced would cost nearly £850
Is anyone else just keeping there note? Really stuck in 2 minds...
Yep mines made un china....no heat issues great battery life
But still on the replacement list

I guess the question is are you prepared to gamble with a possible fire or worse. Please keep in mind that if you did have a fire etc it may not only be you that is harmed but your family. If you live in an apartment you may risk the safety of other residents.
Samsung would not have made this recall unless it was 100% necessary, this goes without saying as the damage done to Samsung both financially and reputation wise is simply staggering. This disaster even affected Samsungs share price on the stock market!
I guess you could gamble if it where your life but its not, if this devices goes bang it could affect others and for that reason alone I returned mine as soon as the news broke. Be responsible please.
Apart from that by the end of the month they will be back on sale and I shall repurchase one. :good:

I was hoping it was a geographically-related batch and havent been too worried... until saw the guy from Australia post about his. Makes it much more real. Treating the thing like a dangerous object for the time being, until figure out how this whole replacement is going to work.
I would strongly recommend to give it back... If Sammy is doing a whole recall they don't know how much of the phones are effected. If they new there would be an app that showed do you need to replace it or not.

Honestly speaking, I had my doubts about the initial reports. Because the photos showed units without the Samsung logo. Then this Australia case reported earlier today.
Another article I read said that 70% of the Note 7 batteries came from Samsung SDI. The batch with the defective, exploding batteries.
So as much as I hate to say this, it's really better you send it in for an exchange.
So with the SDI announcement it does appear we can view the battery manufacturer without root. From a file browser in the root directory go to /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_type and open in a text editor. Unfortunately mine lists SDI
Definitely going to swap mine out when available, was really hoping i would see a different result in that file though.
I'm SDI too!!! Too nooooooo!!!

[Q] Any solution on removing the pop up on first gen N7?

Hey all,
I've tried flashing my 1st gen note7 with a green battery firmware in hopes it would remove the pop up. Al tho the update went through but unlike on our green battery second version n7 where we've got back to 100% and 0 popups. The first gen still has the pop up coming out. The battery did not change to green color either. As if the firmware flash did not go through but it did.
So the question is, has anyone been able to figure out how to disable the pop up on 1st gen note 7 (W8 version)??
oh i have that pop up message also after i flushed the rom. I asked in sprint xdadev thread and no one know why i am getting that pop up and they are not. I have 1st gen note 7 also. so i guess all 1st gens are getting the pop up. At least it charges all the way up to 100% now.

yeah. I wonder where it is coming from, what is triggering it?
its is nice to have 100% and nice that popup comes on only when charging but still... would be even nicer if we could remove it.

Own31, check your PM. I explained why you are still receiving the warning message and have no green battery.

Try install package disabler pro 6.3 (if you don't already have it installed) and disable the following:

hehe where have you been for the past week? PD 6.3 is no longer working =)
We found another way tho but those disabling those apps won't work as Gen 1 is different from Green battery gen2.
I will try to disable that last one, never tried hitting that one (securitylogagent) Doubt it will work but i still have hope. Thx
What is the difference between Gen 1 i from Green battery gen2 ?????? ( I thought is the software update)

Samsung knows the difference based on the IMEI.
The software update will either give you the warning message everytime you plug in or reboot (if you have the original N7), or it will give you the green battery icon (if you have the "replacement" N7). The same update is responsible for both...the behaviour all depends on which version of the phone you have.

well for one, downgrading the firmware on first gen still gives you a popup and gray battery.
downgrading same firmware on second gen ,gives you green battery and no popup.

Wait, so Sammy didn't make any hardware differences to the 2nd gen? Then how did they know it was "safe"?

I thought that wast obvious, thats why i did not mention it.
Yes, as the reports says it was deemed save. The battery was changed, some say their note 7 is more responsive and does not heat that much etc.
Ive had both in my hands and did not see any fvcking difference. Both were awesome. (gave first gen to my gf)
any update on how to remove the pop up message when you plug in the charger?
Non. still have it on first gen.

Any release notes?
Probably going to update (OTA) the next days. Flashed the russian pie rom and received this OTA. Working fine except for "Smart backlight control" stopping to work (when using USB tethering over a longer period of time, weird). I don't have wifi yet so i need to make sure my mobile internet is enough to try out Torchlight Fronters this weekend, that's something i definily don't want to miss. I'll give feedback if i find anything unexpected in that update.
UPDATE: Disabling Smart background control fixed my issue. Luckily it's not really something neccesary.
i also got the update and installed it. Nothing has changet at UI, i think

If it's 2,5GB you probably didn't update to Pie yet, right?
Sony Shameless
After upgrading to pie unfortunately my battery no longer lasts more than a day. Before upgrading it lasted two days or more. Rubbish !!!! I think this is purposeful.

Care to elaborate why you think Sony would purposefully nerf the battery life? Any evidence to support your claim?

Yes, they want you to always buy the most current cell phone. just do not see it if you do not want it.
And why I have to be careful. I speak what I think.
Sony certainly decreases the useful life of the batteries via software purposely !!! What's up ???

You're making some pretty harsh accusations, even going so far as to call them "shameless", but without anything to back it up, and even becoming overly defensive after getting called out on it, you come off as just an immature kid spewing nonsense (basically slander) on the internet.
It's perfectly fine to complain about worse battery life after the upgrade. That by itself is valuable input of actual user experiences that adds to the conversation and provides people more perspectives to what may happen after upgrading to Pie.
But to go one step further and claim that the weaker battery life is because of a conspiracy to purposefully cripple your phone in order to get you to go and buy the latest model?
If you have actual evidence indicating that the age old theory is actually true, by all means blow that whistle and tell us.
Otherwise, you're just spreading false information pulled out of your ass instead of contributing to any meaningful discussion. I don't see how you can justify that sort of behavior.
My battery life is just fine since going to Pie. If you don't like it, just roll back to Oreo.
@puiatmp: Why did you purchase a Sony device in the first place, if you despise the company that much?
I don't know if it was mentioned before. The .33 firmware contains Android pie with November security patch:

you are absolutely right, and world is run by aliens as well, lol
fwiw my phones battery lasts a lot more after upgrading to PIE. usually 2-3 days with normal use, including about 2-3 hours voice calls, 1-2 hours internet browsing, usual emails, 1-2 hours gps while driving, approx 6-7 hours SOT . you better check if you have some power hungry apps running at backround. anyway, making such absurd accusations without having anything backing it up is childish and doesn't give anyone anything.
UPDATE: Smart backlight control was the thing making problems. Disabling this fixed my problems. Pie is fast, my battery life seems to be even better than before but Wifi WPS is missing i think or maybe it just got moved somewhere else.

I thought that WPS was being removed in Android due to security concerns. Might be wrong though.
