I'm looking for the Android 4.4.2 Clock app source code to modify in Android Studio.
Is that possible to find?
I don't need to replace the clock app or to change the whole Android 4.4.2 OS. But I would like to use the built in Clock application (source code) to make another application with just a few modifications.
I saw a clock application on the Google Play store that said it was the stock clock with modifications. That's where I got the idea that finding the Google source code for its Clock application might be possible. Ideally it would be a project file ready to use in Android Studio.

Run? you can compile any source code in Android Studio, whether it will run or not depends on which SDK you select and what target platform you use assuming you don't induce errors with mods.

I didn't download the whole source code like on that page, but I imported (previously downloaded through Git in Windows) the Deskclock source code and ran it. Instead of 63 errors, it produced 67 errors.
I have installed every single SDK, in fact every single checkbox in the SDK Manager. Everything was there. Seems to me like its a problem with IDE configuration files. But I know it can be done. That's how ROM makers produce their ROMs.
I got the Deskclock application from this Android source repository page.

No you don;t need Linux, you can download the source code in pieces rather than use GTHUB.

I appreciate your attempts to help, but you should know by now that I'm putting much effort into doing this. It is apparently not a trivial thing.
When one "Googles" the term "android clock example" it produces a grand total of five results that are mostly off-topic.
I've observed that some modules source code have system package specific imports

Depends on the SDK version you're targeting.
If I recall correctly before Lollipop (or maybe KitKat?) you could simply import system classes by adding private Andoid libraries to classpath in your IDE.
But for never Androids you need to move all your Class loading to handleLoadPackage in the module because of ClassLoader changes, or else your module isn't gonna work even if it compiles right.

I solved it by adding the hidden libs and decompiling systemui, picking the dex file, converting it to jar and adding provide dependency on android studio, but thanks anyway

What is VirtualXposed?
An OPEN-SOURCE Container-like environment for running apks on Android, which allows the use of (some) xposed features without the need for root/xposed/unlocked bootloader etc. If this can be made trustable and stable, it has the potential to bring Xposed mods to a much wider community.
How VirtualXposed works, based on a review of the source code and dev response -

Its not free for commercial use though, that requires the purchase of a license. The dev maintains and independent fork of VirtualApp, without these closed-source blobs. Uses Epic (https://github.com/tiann/epic) to actually process xposed hooks - This is an open-source library, actually inspired from xposed itself, for developer to "hook" into their own Java methods in their own apps.
Uses a simple compatibility layer Exposed (https://github.com/android-hacker/exposed/ ) - Fully open source, Compatibility layer for Xposed, it loads Xposed modules and does some basic services (such as dealing with unsupported feature: initForZygote/resource hooks)
For the UI, uses this Launcher (https://github.com/android-hacker/Launcher3) - This is a fork of the popular (and open source) Rootless Pixel Launcher, modified for multi-user scenarios
Launcher3 and VirtualApp are project dependencies in VirtualXposed, exposed and epic are depended by aar.
Safety/Security Issues
The app requests a ton of permissions - Seems legit given that it has to emulate all of those APIs. Perhaps these can be changed to runtime permissions?
Possible proprietary blobs (Not sure yet - waiting for dev response) The app is fully open source.
Noone knows in detail how it works - Well, I am starting to get an idea of how it works

What works so far -
Hooking into a virtual app's own java functions (hooked using findAndHookMethod())

Limitations of VirtualXposed so far that I know -
Module hooks sometimes work, sometimes dont. I tested AllTrans 5 times, and it only worked once was because of change in Application.onCreate() - see below.
Hooking Application.onCreate and casting it to Application returns and error see below
New modules are seemingly often not changed even after re-installing. Un-installed virtual apps are sometimes detected as still being present by the xposed module (?!)
Cannot hook apks outside of VirtualApp (including possibly SystemUI).
No Resource Hooks
No Google Play Service yet.
Epic library's readme says not supported for arm32, x86_64 and mips device architectures for ART.
Logging to logcat doesnt seem to work. Logging to logcat works. @#$*%$ Android studio log filters.
How to develop modules on it.-

Here is what I am currently doing, which seems to be a more stable way of getting consistent results - Erase application data of VirtualXposed, install xposed module, enable xposed module in xposed installer, force-stop VirtualXposed, start VirtualXposed. If you have enabled an Xposed Module outside of VirtualXposed, it will still affect apps inside it - So its recommended to turn the module off outside.
The original developer seems to not speak perfect English, and the current users are mostly all Chinese.
Note - I intend to keep updating this post as we get more/new information.

The code for VirtualApp and Epic dependecy seems to have been folded into VirtualXposed.
Analysis of clean files
I scanned VirtualXposed and all of its dependencies.
A license scan reveals a mix gpl, lgpl, apache, bsd facebook and mit licenses. Nothing too bad, this project is definitely forkable.
I scanned for URLs in the code, and everything is clean. (ofcourse it is possible that some URL may be encoded in hex or base64 or some other form)
The only file which could not be accounted for is this file from VirtualApp, still present in VirtualXposed - https://github.com/asLody/VirtualAp.../jni/HookZz/tools/ZzSolidifyHook/solidifyhook This file can be built by compiling the solidifyhook.cpp file.
This suggests the VirusTotal scan is almost surely a false positive.

Edit: Here's some discussion about the license. I'm not sure if he can just add that commercial line in there and it applies. They talk about dual-licensing and stuff but I don't know. I don't think that the usage and modification of this would count as commercial if it's released for free to a community.
I'm saying that if they added the non-commercial clause (even if still retaining the GPL license text), I'm not sure what comes out.
One prevails the other? Dual licensing?
Besides, most of commits come from the same two guys, but there are thirty more that contributed to the repo. And I'm not sure how legit unilateral relicensing is then.

A: All thre permission are used for app inside VirtualXposed, i don't know what apps will be added to VirtualXposed, so i must request all the permission in advance. If VirtualXposed doesn't have a permission of one app, the app may can not work properly in VirtualXposed.
I am planning to upgrade the targetSdkVersion to 23, then there are little permission requests when install it (VirtualXposed will request permission dynamicly, but if you refuse some permission of one app in VirtualXposed, all the app in VirtualXposed won't grant that permission; this is truly frustrating, XPrivicyLua can not work properly in VirtualXposed: https://github.com/android-hacker/VirtualXposed/issues/7, I am trying to add a built-in permission control in VirtualXposed: https://github.com/android-hacker/VirtualXposed/issues/33, but there are lot of work to do...

It is allowed to fork something with a GPL-v3 lisence. You can either do it from the GPL-v3 branch or the commit from 27/10-2017 and start from there.

As I was saying in the post, the only question would be where you'd be allowed to make it. Either:

Don't be too sure about that - rovo has been missing for quite a while earlier as well, and still continued to develop Xposed. I see no reason to give up so soon on comparison.

I went over it and there's 17 vague "I don't know, maybe" results(pup/gen), which are almost always false positives unless accompanied by actual identified malware results.
DrWeb was more specific saying it installs things without going through the package manager or showing a normal installation UI, but that's an intended and advertised function of this app.

Thanks for your hard work on this! Was just wondering; is EXposed/TaiChi also your work? And will you make it open-source? I understand VirtualXposed is safe but we don't know much about this upgraded version.

EXposed/TaiChi is created by me, and i won't make it open-source.
VirtualXposed is open-source, but there are still so many people think it is dangerous. Open-source can not give me any revenue.

What revenue do you make with it closed source? Also, will it ever support XInsta?

For those of you who picked up the latest Android devices (Android Q+ and 8GB+ of RAM), we’ve rebuilt Chrome as a 64-bit binary, giving you a more stable Chrome that is up to 8.5% faster to load pages and 28% smoother when it comes to scrolling and input latency.
Unfortunately, when I downloaded Chrome version "89.0.4389.90 arm64-v8a + armeabi-v7a Android 10+ nodpi" from APKMirror I was still getting 32bit (chrome://version). Turns out the 6GB of RAM on the Pixel 4a 5G are not enough for chrome's memory hunger?!?
I am guessing somebody could do a build or modification to lower the RAM requirement?
Any other ideas?

Just use Bromite instead, it's better for your privacy
I had that problem as well and found a best solution: manually download and install the same 64-bit build version of Chrome, Trichrome Library and Webview from apkmirror.com, and upgrade manually. Bromite is ok, but I prefer stable Google Chrome from Google Play to enjoy Google Sync and all goodies. I'll explain:
Starting point: I have a Xiaomi Mi 8, which has 6 GB RAM and was always frustrated that I can't install 64-bit Chrome and Webview from Play Store, because by Google's decision only 8GB up can. This is a bit ridiculous for me, because I'm losing the best performance of the main app that I use in my phone, the web browser. I don't use many apps at once and 64-bit Chrome only takes some hundred megabytes of ram more than 32-bit. And sure Chrome 64-bit is faster than 32-bit, so after lots of studing and trying I found a solution. I don't like that Google forces me to have 8Gb Ram to run 64-bit Chrome! I manage my own phone, apps and RAM. ;-)
Example for latest version at the time of writing:
I start by searching for 'Chrome Fast' in apkmirror.com. Then it links in the download page to required Trichrome Library. And finally I search for 'Webview same_trichrome_version number' and once in its download page I check it links to the same previous trichrome Library, because they interdepend. So I download in this order: Chrome Fast, Trichrome Library and Webview. Then I install in this order:
Trichrome Library 102.0.5005.99 (arm64-v8a + arm-v7a) (500509934) Notice the same build number. Mixing build numbers won't work. 34 ending builds always contain 64-bit libraries. I have examined them to make sure.
Google Chrome: Fast & Secure 102.0.5005.99 (arm64-v8a + arm-v7a) (Android 10+) (500509934 Build, always last '34' ending) (apkbundle). You need an app to install apkbundles, like APKMirror Installer. I use APP Manager (root). You can add your language if it is avaiable. Normally it installs in english.

Install the three packages in order: (Trichrome, Chrome and Webview). Google Chrome 64-bit will only start when the same Trichrome Library version is installed.
Webview is optional, but is highly recommended since it is always loaded in memory and used by any application that displays a web page (i.e: Outlook). Webview also depend on the same Trichrome Library version, so you'll want all three apps in synced versions so Android is optimized for 64-bit rendering and using shared processes and memory. If you don't install Webview 64-bit you will be wasting memory for 32-bit webview processes and 64-bit process for Chrome 64-bit/Trichrome Library.
If you install all 3 components, you are actually replacing 32-bit for 64-bit rendering for the whole system, taking only a few hundred megabytes more of RAM (out of 6GB in my phone).
You'll need to install manually all three apps to upgrade, I stringly advise you to untick Chrome auto update from Google Play so it doesn't get replaced by 32-bit version again.
Important: Also, from time to time, clean your system of older Trichrome Library installations. You can't uninstall them! I haven't been able to uninstall Trichrome Library with 'adb uninstall' or any package command/app. Only solution is using a root File Browser, like 'Material Files' and manually delete folders of older versions. Each version has two places:
/data/app/com.google.android.trichromelibrary_version_number****** (~124Mb)
/data/data/com.google.android.trichromelibrary_version_number***** (a few kb)
