P8000 shuts down randomly - Elephone P8000

Hello.
I own a elephone P8000, bought 3 months ago. It's a great phone, I've been enjoying it so far, but just recently this issue has appeared, and has made the phone unusable: it shuts down randomly by itself. I can be using for just 30 seconds, or even leaving it on its own (it lasted this whole night on standby without shutting down, however after using it for like 10 seconds in the morning, when I went back to check it it was off), it shuts down, and I can't power it up again unless I connect it to a power source (like a recharging cable) - I press the power button and nothing happens. However, after being plugged in to a power source, I can then start it up. Also, when it's connected, I can use it for as long as I want and it wont shut down, however when I unplug the cable, it may last 30 seconds or even a few minutes, and it will eventually shut down. This happens with every percentage of battery, as I've tried it with low battery (around 20€), and full.
The only thing I've done so far was do a factory reset through the android settings menu (not the android boot /recover mode menu).
Any thoughts? Would really like to try everything possible before sending it back to Elephone for warranty as it would take me to pay for the shipping...
Thanks in advance

It's one of three things in my opinion.
1. The battery is faulty.
2. The USB port is bad (I sort of doubt it is this). You could also try a different outlet adapter, and USB cable to rule those out.
3. Something process wise in the OS is rapidly consuming power.
Have you tried to install an alternate ROM via SPflash? I'm running CM12.1 on my P8000 US B version, and it has been flawless since I've gotten the phone in June.

I've considered the first and the last option. I just hope that it's not the battery. If it is, is it easy to replace the battery, since it's "stuck" into the phone itself?
I'll try to install a different ROM, however I can't access the android's boot menu / recovery mode. Once I press the Volume UP and POWER button, and it goes into the recovery mode, a red triangle with a ! appears and can't go to that menu. I've looked around for a solutions but everyone says different things. Would you know how to fix it?
Thanks again

Do a quick search on YouTube for elephone P8000 battery replacement, p8000 rooting, and p8000 installing twrp recovery. I put up a 15 minute video of recovering the P8000 from dead bricked state.

I'm sorry mate, I consider myself an educated guy on computer stuff, but smart phones isn't really my thing. What steps in order to install that new ROM should I take first? Let me remind you that I can't go do the Android Recover Menu, so should I do something first to re-install it? Sorry about my ignorance on this, I'll try to read about it on my own untill I wait for your answer tho

First off, what version P8000 do you have? American ("B") or the Euro model ("A")? You need to d'load TWRP recovery first (links in description in my video). Install SPflash on your pc , and install the recovery to your phone using SPflash. TWRP recovery will allow you to install zip files of ROMs, super root, kernels, and backup your phone. The recovery that ships with the P8000 is stock only, and you cannot install ROMs with stock recovery. So your first step is getting TWRP recovery installed.
Any possibility you could shoot a short video of what phone is doing after you unplug it?

Hey mate. First of all, thanks for the help and the time spent.
I've read and tried a few things yesterday, I'm more aware of what you told me to do now.
My P8000 is the Euro model, from China (?). I'm from Portugal tho.
I've downloaded SPFlash, TWRP and the stock ROM just to give it a try first with this rooting and flashing stuff. When I connect my phone with it on and with the cable attached, it downloads a driver. I've also manually tried to install the drivers around here from the forum. When it's on, I can access to the phone's files and all of that. However, when the phone is off, and I press "Download" on SPFlash, and then connect the phone while off, the windows does a sound of device plugged in and the the sound of it plugged off, and the phone shows that battery icon recharging. So, basically, nothing happens with SPFlash when I connect the phone. What can I do to fix this part?
About the video, the phone basically shuts down after I unplug it mate. It can last either a few seconds or even a few minutes on, but it shuts down anyway. And is not from a specific action, like opening an app or something, it just goes off randomly. If it's really necessary I can do the video tho.

If you are running Windows 10 64bit you will need to disable driver signing, and install the Media Tek drivers.

I'm running Windows 7 64bits, and even tho a pop up window appear when I'm installing the drivers asking me if I authorize them to be installed and I press Yes, they seem to be installed perfectly. Kinda lost here, as I can't connect the phone to SPFlash because of this

I had to get driver signing disabled before drivers installed properly on Windows 10. I'm fairly certain the same applies to Windows 7. Do a quick YouTube search for MTK drivers, and Windows 7 and follow along step-by-step. Watching a SPflash windows install video wouldn't hurt either.
You defiantly need to rule out that it is not software related. Have you attempted to contract Elephone support to see if they thought it may be hardware or os related? You've tried different USB cables, and a different wall plug? I've had USB cables that my p8000 won't charge at all from. Sometimes a bad cable or bad power adapter will actually drain the battery.

Were you able to get SPflash working? TWRP installed? If you have a friend that has Ubuntu Linux installed with a few minor settings changes, SPflash runs flawless on it

Hey mate, just tried it all again. Removed W7 drivers signature enforcement, reinstalled the drivers, and tried again running SPFlash. The programs opens, I select the scatter file from the the TWRP recovery folder. However, when I press Download, and connect the phone to the cable, nothing happens in the problem. Windows makes a sound of device connected, and lke 5 seconds later it makes the sound of device disconnected. After that the phone goes into that battery charging mode, and a battery appears in the screen.
It sucks to be stuck right in the first step of the whole process, god's sake. Is it possible to install TWRP another way than from SPFlash? I've read about installing those things from the SDcard in Android boot menu, could give it a try

You can try via ADB:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-t...tboot-with-drivers-on-windows-quickest-setup/
http://androiding.how/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-via-fastboot/
Odds are if you still cannot install via ADB it is most likely a Windows driver issue.
Also, here is is a good article on other ways to troubleshoot P8000 battery issues.

Alright, got some news! I managed to get SPFlash working (just changed the PC USB port, yeah, basic thing lol). Tried Flyme ROM and GM 12.1 and in both ROMs the issue still happened. With all this done, anything software wise should have been fixed, right? So, now, moving to the hardware, should I just admit, after this, that the problem is in fact the battery?

Well, firstly, if you power off the phone, and plugin the P8000 with a power adapter/usb what percentage does the display show the battery?
Secondly, if the phone was wiped clean, and installed a new ROM, odds are it is not OS related. I would at the very minimum try some of the battery techniques listed here: https://www.orduh.com/fix-elephone-p8000-battery-drain-overheating/ before buying a new battery, and tearing apart your phone.
Thirdly, about one month ago, my finger print scanner on my phone started acting quirky. I removed the back cover, and with my thumb, I applied firm pressure right where I could visibly see the ribbon cable for the scanner and applied firm pressure vertically down the battery. That fixed the loose ribbon connection without taking the phone apart, and the finger print scanner works normally. Try the same technique with the battery. Apply firm pressure along all edges of the battery all around the battery, and down the middle of the battery in case there is a poor connection between the ribbon cable, and the battery. If the website and pressure techniques do not work, odds are it' a defective battery. If the phone is under a year old, see if you can pressure Elephone into shipping you a new battery free of charge. Good Luck.
PS
I assume you were able to get TRWP recovery installed? Once you have the battery issue resolved you will have a much more flexible phone. With the right ROM + kernel this phone kicks serious ass for battery life, and performance.

When the phone is off and charding, the percentage shown is 100%. The issue started at a day when it was around 20% or so, but since I had to have the phone plugged in so I could use it, it eventually charged up to 100%.
I will try some of the things described in that website, as well as that technique you told me.
Not really sure about Elephone sending a new battery, their costumer service seems to be really bad when it comes to that kind of things.
I did managed to install TWRP! When I get my phone fix (which I hopefully will get), I'll definitely get into that kind of modifications! You've recommended GM12.1 as ROM, right? That was the last one I installed.
Thanks for all the help mate!

I use CM12.1 (CyanogenMod). Lighter android, efficient, and everything works flawlessly. With these custom aokp ROMs Google play store must be installed through TWRP. Both CM & Google are installed as .zip files through twrp

Really missing my phone, been using an old crappy one for weeks now ahaha.

HELP! VZW Galaxy Nexus completely DEAD!!

I've searched & searched thru XDA without any luck or finding someone with a similar situation.
My GNEX is unlocked, rooted & running AOKP 36.
I hung up the phone after a call...locked it...put it in my pocket...took it out a few minutes later and the phone would not turn on. My battery was over 50%, so i thought i pocket-powered the phone down.
The phone does not boot into any mode. I've tried them all. It is not recognized by my Mac or PC. Here are the things i've done so far: Battery pull. Charge overnight. Removed battery overnight. I bought a new battery & i'm still having the same problem.
Any ideas before i call Verizon and take the loss? I would really like to recover my pictures & videos.
Thanks in advance.
So you have tried to boot into recovery by holding down power and the volume buttons?
If not try this to get to recovery to do a restore.

If you tried this, then you might need to send it in.
Thanks for the reply, but i've tried that already. I'm out of ideas...it's unresponsive.

Do you have another battery or friend with a gnex? My girls died completely while plugged in over night. I got another battery and it fired up.
Needless to say a clean install was the next step.

Also hold down power button for awhile. And also try.with a different battery.
...
I bought a new battery from Verizon and tried it, but its still unresponsive. I charged both batteries overnight and nothing happens.
I've held all buttons for several minutes with both batteries, but nothing happens. It wont boot and it won't boot into recovery/bootloader/hard reset menu, etc (android with stomach open LOL)
On a few occasions, when i connect to my PC, it says new hardware detected OMAP 4440 (or something like that) & asks to install drivers. I have the Gnex toolkit, but the program does NOT detect my phone.
Thanks for the replies.
This happened to my fiance's vzw gnex. She was on stock though. Just surfing the web and it turned off. Dead as can be. She took it back and they gave her a new one.

Can't hurt...
My Nexus is from Verizon & the tutorial you linked is for the GSM version. Do you think it matters?
I will still give it a shot. Thanks!
Did you check the pin area where the battery connects? Are the pins in good condition or any small foreign object around them?
If you're careful you can *maybe* odin it back to stock (you've already lost the pics tho).
Look in the dev area for any odin threads.....links to files and stuff are in there.

I appreciate everyone's input.

G Pad Won't Respond - No Dowload Mode

Okay so i was on Marsh mellow 6.0.1 and then the tablet died due to battery running out. Once i rebooted it, it was stuck at the LG logo and said something like "No Secure Booting". It just froze. Then i got into download mode, opened LG Support Tool and tried Updating Software as i have had this exact problem before and this worked last time. However this time it got to around 83% then the tablet lost connection. Ive tried this multiple times now and every 4-5Mins it just disconnects.
However after many failed attempts it now doesn't enter download mode, doesn't make sound when connected to PC and doesn't show any life.
also cannot access TWRP
any help would be appreciated!
In Windows' Device Manager, does the tablet show up in the Modem or Ports section? If it shows up as "QHSUSB_BULK 9008", Google that and at least if you have a TOT file available for your particular model and variant, then you should be able to recover using directions/program you can find.
I have the same problem with a G Pad of mine. It was working fine, boot looped (with 50% battery) then switched off. No life at all, no amount of button combinations or charged plugging in will bring it back. I've resorted to finding a donor motherboard to see if it'll work with a new motherboard or if some other component is at fault!

Update!!
Currently got the tablet back into working order no replacement hardware needed.
Problem:
Tablet not responding to any user input or software detection. not charging and no life of any sort.
Solution:
( 1 )Charge tablet with a powerful legitimate LG charger (not a cheap Chinese knockoff).
( 2 )Leave on charge for at least 1 and a half days.
( 3 )Press power button to check if device powers, if not continue.
( 4 )Connect USB to PC, Press and hold Volume Up and Down simultaneously and insert USB into charger port.
( 5 )Download mode should appear and you'll be able to flash stock from LG Support Tools or LG Flash Tool

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML - very slow charging, not detected by PC.

I have two pieces of ZF2 ZE551ML at home. One is my and the other one belongs to my wife. My wife's phone had a broken mini USB port - the first 2 pins from the left were visible - the plastic had broken apart. Firstly, I did not relaise it could be the problem, luckily I managed to change the whole PCB including the broken USB port, however after this change the phone is not being detected by a PC, nor it is fast charging. As I have two phones at home, I checked performance with the other unit and unfortunately, the other one does quick charge and is detected by aPC, so it is not the cable, neither is it the missing software.
I bought another PCB and changed it as well, however still no joy. Does anyone have any brilliant idea how to fix it. I should also say that all other or most of the functions of the phone are working fine (at least those I managed to check: GPS, Wi-Fi, GSM+dual SIM, torch, bluetooth, and so on).
The only problem is that the phone loops on the SMMI Test #1 and is not going any further. I have also tried to detect phone by adb, still no joy. The phone is not rooted!
I have my personal suspects that it could be the faulty main board or a software bug. Any ideas how to fix it?
My phone is running LP 5.0, soft: LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.20.40.198_20160930_8756_user044030427_201501060109, kernel [email protected] #1 Fri Sept 30 15:31>23 CST 2016
Sdcard slot is working?
I would check the connections on both ends of the flex cable with the sim and sd slots on it.
I am having the same problems (because of the busted sd slot). I ordered a new flex cable. When it arrives (approx. 2 weeks) I'll know if that was the cause.
Yes, SD slot is working and both SIMs, so the phone itself works fine, only very long charging and is not detected by a PC.

Hi, I did changed both PCBs between phones. Firstly, I had the same problem on both phones, then I made better connections and the batteries started to warm up. Finally, the new one works with the other phone, the old one from the other phone still creates the problem. Probably, it is not the PCB then, or USB connection. It must be something else.
Anyone, any idea?

Phone B:- working perfectly normal..
now we want to guess if pcb is faulty or there is issue with flex cable or any software related issue..
remove motherboard from phone A. and install it in Phone B.. if on Phone B. things works well then definitely its problem related to pcb.. if things don't works on phone B too. then it may be a firmware related problem..
raw cannot be installed without pc..... the thing you can ty is updating firmware from sd card via recovery mode.

That is correct, I say it again - I have two phones, same model, same software, kernel, etc. One had a damaged mini USB port, so I purchased 2 PCBs which have mini USB port souldered onto them. I bought them twice, as I was not sure if the first one I got was the correct one. Now, after your first message I changed the PCBs between phones and the result is the same, phone A (which is ok) works with the replacement PCB, and the PCB from working phone still does not work with phone B (the one that has a problem).
As a second step I replaced motherboards between phones now, and the result is still the same, meaning the motherboard from phone B does not seem to work better while it is in phone A body. The symptoms I'm struggling with are: charging takes over 8-9 hours, so it is considerably extended charging (battery is original factory battery 3000 mAh), the phone does not fastcharge at all and it is not detected by any PC.
The phone is not roooted so, I'm afraid I cannot make any changes to firmware through recovery, as it needs to be connected by a cable to a PC, unless there is something else I can do about it, but how to get any further?

I was on lolipop, updated to MM now, but still no joy, charges very slowly like before and when connected to any PC it says one of the recently connected devices is not working properly, so I'm stuck ... I cannot root or apply any ADB sideloads ...

Is your ext. sd being seen in file manager ?
Can you get into 6.0 recovery ?
If yes , you can now downgrade which will reset your fone , With a factory reset in the process , check my signature below.
Your fone not being seen maybe driver issue if other zens too are not being seen...but ..let's see what happens after downgrade.
After downgrade if still slow charge, reboot while connected to charger.
If same prob ..hardware !

Thanks, I was not so deeply checking all available options. SD downgrading worked well for me, however the problem still is in the phone. However, I discovered a few positive and negative signs, which tell me that there is something else - could be the connection - after upgrading to MM before the phone was restarted at least 3-4 times the screen was not going to sleep mode after a minute, it was coming back on and on and on again. After 3-4 restarts it behaved normally again. The same thing happened after downgrade to L.
Another positive discovery is that the SMMI test now works well and everything is ok now, before it got stuck on the 1st or 2nd test and was not going any further ....
One more spot, which was very hard to catch as it popped up for a 0,1 second but dissappeared then quickly so I had to record it with the other phone and play very slowly on the PC - it looks like the Asus cover window pops up and it says - move your finger around the circle to get quick access to your preferable apps and there is also a blue button: Do not show again . This is flashing now and then and I do not have Asus Cover, so the behaviour is quite odd to me.
I have a feeling that there might be something with connections, but really I do not know what else - I checked it 30 times and made sure everything was properly alligned and tight when I was changing the PCB with micro USB port.
By the way the other phone works well on PCs, so I must have all drivers installed, it is just the second phone that is half bricked... I'm wondering now if maybe flashing CM 12 or 13 will help, however as it is not rooted probably it will not work via SD card... or? Am I looking in the right direction?
Buddy , its hardware so software tweaks will be useless .
Buddy, we are on the same ****ing boat.
I tried to go back to 6.0,but i got my phone bricked and now i cant reverse it back because i need usb connection to the computer and simply it isnt recognized.
I suggest you to send the phone to the asus assistance centre or to buy a new usb port for your phone,as it is clearly damaged like mine.I need to do it too so if you want to wait me first so i can check if it works, ill maybe save you some money.

Well, my phone successfully reversed to Lolipop, and I changed the USB port, I talked to Asus authorised service centre and they said it will cost the price of the phone, so I just give up, as everything works, but not the phone with the computer via USB and not the quick charging. Asus centre said it is a motherboard failure, but I'm asking how is that possible if all other functions work well???

Yes, I see your point, but I cannot imagine how is this possible, when all other things work well on the phone and the SMMI test shows all sensors working properly?

Ask yourself the same 2 questions again once more
Is your phone recognised by PC ?
Is fast charging working now ?
If answer is no after downgrade .
You know the answer
i changed mainboard and working
well, i have the same problem and i try the following possibility and all unsuccessful.
1. i tried 3 different pcb still no luck
2. i changed sim flex still no luck
3. i changed battery still no luck
4. i changed lcd and digitizer completely still no luck
5. i wiped cache from android recovery MM still no luck
6. i wiped data and factory reset from android recovery MM still no luck
7. i install same latest os (MM) for ze551ml from sd card still no luck
8. i use original ac adapter and cable and tried working different one for every step.
so i want to ask a questions. can it be ground connection somewhere on cases? or motherboard
i am tired but problem found. it is exactly motherboard problem. i bought used original mainboard and all is working.
Note: other mainboard using same android os version so it is not os failure.

Phone is bricked, can't load into recovery and can't turn on without being plugged in

This phone is quite old but I've only recently had the courage to open it up to try to fix it.
I've tried to flash the stock firmware when I could access recovery mode but it says that it couldn't install it from the SD Card.
I've tried plugging it in to my computer but the phone doesn't boot.
The phone wasn't rooted or messed with in anyway. The battery life on it just slowly went down and down until it is in the state now where it can't get past the boot logo. It doesn't even get to the boot animation either.
I'm just seeing if I can try to restore the phone to its former glory at all, whether it be a parts replacement or a software fix.

It's a great phone!
Just got mine working.... It was so nicely built.
Of course, it's waaaay beyond really practical but it works well. Even the camera is still good as long as you replace the rear cover-plus-lens
You need to replace the battery...cheap from eBay
Replacing it however, is very difficult to do well so find a shop

I actually managed to remove the battery to see if the battery was the problem in anyway. It still acts the same way when the battery is removed. I would spend the money to buy a new battery but I just want to make sure that it is the most likely problem.
Re-download your recovery firmware... Sometimes it's as simple as a corrupt file - is happened to me! Also, Leave it plugged in over night with the battery on.... It won't rescue the battery if it's dead but it's happened when with my last battery it was dead and the overnight got it to at least boot up and switch on before it powered off again.
It's worth getting it running. The only phone slimmer now is the Moto...and that has a huge camera bump!
The screen is great, the colors are lovely and if it's stock firmware, EMUI is at its quirky best.
It's a great feeling in the hands and I'm enjoying using it again.

A big problem is that my phone won't install the firmware from SD Card for some reason. I've also tried to charging but that no use.
Have you tried copying the firmware to phone internal memory?

It won't boot into recovery when plugged into my computer.
Edit: I managed to boot into system and use the local update function to install the firmware. It works once again! This phone has been dead for a couple years now and I'm glad to see it back now. I ripped the ribbon cable for the battery so I'm gonna buy a new one. Thanks for the help!

Nexus 5X hard bricked. Is there definitely no way to fix it?

I have a Nexus 5X (running Oreo 8.0 rooted) which was working fine until yesterday. The phone was responding very slowly so I decided to power it off. After that the phone will not power on at all. When I connect it to PC via USB, it shows up as "QHSUSB_BULK" in device manager. I have read online that this means the phone is hard bricked. I bought the phone in June 2016 and the warranty only lasts a year so I can't RMA it. What should I do? I really liked the 5X and nothing out there really compares to it.
@gwynlordofcinder: sad for you. But why you ask the same question as 20 others before? Try freezer and/or oven to get back the mainboard-connections. If successfull, you can save your data or go on with a kernel-profile which makes the big core sleep. Use search for details.

They have extended the warranty to 18 months, or someone said 24 months, since there is a hardware issue with the 5X.
Most likely fixable, but with the need of special files.
Search up on QD Loader 9008 on this subforum and read through it.
i'm on the hunt to find a fix for it, hopefully i'll make it. gonna share my findings asap!

There is no extended warranty in the UK, which is where I purchased the phone.

Since this happened from normal usage and not from you installing a custom ROM or updating the bootloader, or something like that, I think you have the bootloop problem. I normally think of a hard brick being the result of flashing say the incorrect bootloader, or a corrupt file, etc. which can then hopefully be undone by software means to get the right software back on there.
If you have the bootloop, it is a hardware problem. The fact that the phone doesn't bootloop does not mean you don't have the hardware problem. Boot looping was just the most common way to identify it, but many, like mine would just either never even start booting, or would start, then go black.
If you don't figure out any software way to do anything, then try to look for bootloop fixes. Searching for that might get you further. But with a hardware problem, everything except the fix for disabling the big cores (in XDA threads), is temporary unless you are lucky.
Assuming you have a hardware issue, here's some steps to maybe try. I was able to get the rescue fix installed on my phone after using a hair dryer on the motherboard. But that didn't fix anything since my problem was hardware. But if your OTA update was maybe slightly corrupted, maybe it'll help.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/G_0s70PzK_s
To jump right to trying a rescue OTA, go here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!topic/nexus/hdrNONCCoNE
If it doesn't react enough to do anything from a computer, you may have to resort to putting it in the freezer for a while first. Which may give a short period where it'll boot and you can maybe adjust the settings so you can try one of the XDA fixes that disable the big cores.
One fix that disables the big cores:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/untested-nexus-5x-bootloop-death-fix-t3641199
Example video of heat gunning the motherboard. He did hair dryer, but then did it again with a heat gun. That's in a separate video of his. By using a heat gun, I was able to get it to where I could pull my data off and it even acted normal for 9 hours. Then rebooted and then eventually ended up bootlooping. The fix to disable the big cores was not around back then, so I never have tried it, and ended up getting the 5X replaced by Google.

except that the files needed for unbricking corrupt bootloaders/eMMCs' are so hard to find it's incredible.
bought a used 5X that "suddenly died in a pocket", now that you mention all of this, i might try doing the hardware fixes and then apply the big core disabling and hopefully get my phone to work.
the phone did get serviced though, so they might've installed bad firmware since the phone is in QDLoader & in EDL mode (PC recognizes the phone, while fastboot/adb/LGUP doesn't)

Can you update driver "QHSUSB_BULK" in device manager by choose driver manually . I have problem like this in Inew V3 (Chaina Phone) and can fix by choose driver manually.
