delete individual saved networks? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I don't have a note 7 yet(pre-order got cancelled by the store because of the recall, no new pre-order is up yet) but I did get to check out a display model.
the display model was configured to automatically connect to a non-functioning network(DHCP server malfunctioning/blocked), so I thought I'd delete the network and connect to a different one.
at this point I stumbled upon a rather odd problem: there where options to modify the network and prevent connecting automatically, but the "forget network" option was missing.
am I missing something here, are the display models missing something, or did Samsung actually remove the ability to forget individual networks?

the option exists as always, the model you saw is a demo unit, and are very different than actual selling units

Success: carrier unlock, CID, tether on Optimus 7

I have successfully completed the following:
1. Carrier Unlocked a Telus branded LG E900h Optimums 7
2. Connected the phone to Fido
3. Use 3G on Fido
4. Fixed broken Call Display problem
5. Tethered E900h to laptop
6. Set up Wireless Zune sync
It took some effort time to figure it all out, so I thought I would share my experience to reduce frustration that any others may encounter. Most likely, many of these steps will be similar for other WP7 phones.
Unlocking the phone
Because my local phone unlock guy was closed the day I purchased the Optimus 7, I tried instantunlockcodes.com and purchased an unlock code for $10. I received 2 codes the next day, but neither
worked. I recommend not using this website, as tech support responses were next day, and they were never able to get the code working (after 3 days).
I took the phone to my local unlock guy, who unlocked it successfully. He charged me $65.
For anyone who is trying to unlock the phone, when you insert a foreign SIM, the Optimus 7 asks you for a PIN. This is where you enter the service provider unlock code. When I tried either of
the codes that instantunlockcodes.com gave to me, it said, "SIM ERROR". After looking around on the Internet, it seems that this is the message that comes up when it's the wrong code.
Getting Data on Fido
Telephone/voicemail automatically worked on Fido. To get Data to work (ie 3G) I had to change the APN setting.
Go to SETTINGS -> Cellular -> edit apn
"edit apn" is the button at the bottom of that screen. The settings should be:
APN: internet.fido.ca
User name: fido
Password: fido
Have Data connection ON and 3G connection ON.
Internet now worked for me, including browser and Outlook. Outlook connected to Exchange flawlessly.
Incidentally, the first time I set up my phone, I set up Windows Live immediately (startup wizard), and then Outlook Exchange. My appointments from Exchange were all in bright pink.
Because Windows Live was giving me a sync error, I did a factory reset, and set up Outlook first this time. Now, my Exchange appointments are in red. No idea how to change the color, but I
prefer red. In both cases, the Windows Live account's appointments are in Blue.
Call Display and MMS
Call Display and MMS did not work. Frankly, I don't care about MMS (there is another thread on how to fix this), but Call Display is quite important.
Specifically, Call Display worked when land lines called me, but did not call when most cell phones called me. They would read, Unknown.
The solution to this was through Fido: I had to call them and change my Call Display from "Call Display with Name Display" to "Call Display WITHOUT Name Display". Evidently, this problem has
manifested in other unlocked phones, such as some Blackberries as well.
A point of interest: when I put in the original Telus SIM, the call display also did not work properly. They must have given me Call Display with Name Display as well.
Tethering and Wireless Sync
Tethering is a really handy thing for me. I use it infrequently, but it's really invaluable when I need it.
I've modified the solution that's been posted around, to be specific to Fido, but to clarify a couple of the screens, as well:
1. If you haven't already, install Zune first. While tethering is enabled, Wired Sync on Zune won't work. But Zune has wireless synch, which is way cool anyhow.
2. Set up Wireless Sync on Zune. I won't go into all the details, but basically, make sure that the phone is connected to the WiFi network, that your PC has access to the same network (it can
be hardwired, as long as it has access to the same IP subnet). If you have a guest/work router, make sure that both your phone and PC are on the same network. With your phone plugged in, run
the Wireless Sync wizard on Zune. It's painless.
3. Unplug your phone.
4. Press Phone, and dial ##634#, then press the Call button. This makes visible a hidden app called "MFG". Go to the list of all your apps, and you'll see a new icon with a hammer, wrench and
screwdriver lablelled MFG. Open it.
5. You'll be asked for a password. Enter 277634#*# -- you'll need to enter this password every time you want to go into MFG, which is a good thing, because I think you can seriously mess up
your phone if you play around in there.
5. Go to Engineer -> Port Setting
6. Select the QC COMPOSITE and validate. The phone will automatically reboot.
7. VERY IMPORTANT STEP: This is totally counter-intuitive, but you must go to SETTINGS -> Cellular and turn OFF Data Connection.
Note that once you're done tethering, you need to turn it back ON in order to use Internet on the phone.
8. Connect the phone with a USB cable.
9. Windows will automatically detect the phone, and if you're using Windows 7, will prompt you with a popup with the download link for the LG driver. It says LG CDMA driver, but it works. The
full file name is LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4_All.exe
10. Once the drivers are installed, click start, and type "Modem", click Phone and Modem.
11. Click Modems, double-click LGE CDMA USB MODEM, click the Advanced tab.
12. Under Extra Initialization Commands, enter:
+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.fido.ca"
Replace internet.fido.ca with a different provider APN, if you're not with Fido, obviously.
13. Close the Modems screen, click Start, type "Dial" and click Set up a Dial-up Connection.
14. Enter your home area code because Windows forces you to, and go to the next screen. Then enter as the dialing number:
*99#
Leave the login/password blank. Click connect -- and PRESTO! Tethered Optimus 7.
* IMPORTANT *
Once you're finished tethering, you need to turn Data Connection back on. For some reason, when Data Connection is on, tethering doesn't work. Fortunately, it's a pretty simple toggle to
switch.
I hope that this is helpful!
Thanks for the great info! Just picked up a Telus HTC Surround and was concerned about the CID issue. I'll give this a shot.
You guys paid full pop then for the telus phone?
I'm suprised it costs $65 to get it unlocked...there has to be a way to do this for free...the cheap bugger in me doesn't like to pay for such things!
Yep, paid full at Best Buy. My Samsung Galaxy S just broke last night and I need a smartphone like there's no tomorrow, heh heh. Decided to give a WP7 phone a chance this time.
Yes, I paid $499 CAD + Tax. But, I'm ahead, because I bought an iPhone 4 on renew for $250 or so and sold it BNIB for $960 a few days after release
I have an issue with Text message timing - they are coming through with times that are not the same as my time zone.
UnlockThatPhone.com only 14.99$ and after 18h they send me 2 codes and now I'm so happy
did it work?

[Q] SGH-1747 mobile data connection problems

Hey guys,
First of all, sorry but I'm a complete newbie with this phone, however I've tried to do the necessary research and I think i've hit a block. First of all, my phone is a SGH-1747 (from the title) Samsung Galaxy s III 4G LTE or just Samsung Galaxy s III LTE which is network unlocked with original carrier being AT&T. I updated the phone to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 via Samsung Kies and everything went smoothly. It was originally my aunt's and I asked her to ship it to me here in Australia. So my current provider is Vodafone Australia and yes I do have a micro sim and can use the phone for almost everything except for the problem that I'm experiencing.
Okay so firstly I thought my problem was that everything I go on google play store via my mobile data (not WIFI), I was unable to update / download certain apps and it would give me a "package file is invalid" error. I've done researched tried clearing cache, cookies, data but nothing seemed to work. I also thought it might be something to do with only unable to download apps that are a certain size, seeing as I could download SOME smaller apps (like google apps updates, but not all) but it got to the point where I tried accessing apps that require an internet connection, and it won't load because of error "not connected to internet or you might be disconnected". At all times I am able to access the internet via internet browser and even search for apps via google play store. I also thought it might be app-related, so i tried different apps, no bingo. I can however download all these apps / updates when I am connected to WIFI at my house, can even access the games. Also thought it might be related to Vodafone not supporting 4G so I tried to change around the network modes but It didn't really make much of a difference... I've also tried factory resetting many times with no bingo.
So now i'm at the point where I don't know what's wrong with it. Do you guys have any ideas? Even vodafone people were unable to find a solution after spending about an hour trying to fix it with them.
Even with the sim unlocked you may need to manually add the correct apn for your specific carrier. Not sure what the correct apn for vodafone is, but im sure its listed somewhere on this forum or via a google search. Go to your settings>wireless&networks>more settings>mobile networks>access point names. Press the menu button and press add apn, enter the correct configuration. Before exiting the apn menu make sure to press menu button again and choose "save". On the following screen pick your newly entered apn, wait for the button to stay green and then exit. You should see the data icon appear in the status bar. Reboot the phone and it should work.

Thank you very much. Apparently when I got my sim, it was adding a proxy and a port number. According to the actual vodafone website there wasn't anything you're supposed to have in that and only that port and proxy was supposed to go into the MMS Proxy and MMS Port. Props to Vodafone for not knowing how to fix my problem even after spending 1 hour on the phone with them.

[Q] New phone -- no data. Suggestions?

OK, I took the plunge and got one. Checked a few things out, then went for the ICS update (official AT&T, at least for now) before I got too wrapped up in it. Seems I may have forgotten to check out that the data plan worked before the update -- I think I may have had Wi-Fi on all the time. Yeah, it was a dumb mistake.
Now I cannot get any data with any application when outside a Wi-Fi zone. Not even 2G, much less 3G. No connection and no indicator at the top. Phone is working on 3G just fine.
I have AT&T, though it's an old "Smartphone Unlimited" plan. It works just fine on my LG Expo (which is 3G). The phone is supposed to be unlocked (at least until I updated it, don't know if that affected it), but I have no non-AT&T SIM with which to try it. Have made no attempt to root it or load a custom ROM.
Are there some settings somewhere that I have to change to go through my old "wap.cingular" gateway (either rooted or not)? Should I try going to a custom ROM? Back to the original software (link, please, if that's the case)?
I'm going to see if a co-worker's T-Mobile SIM works with it (voice and/or data). But is there anything else I should try? Has AT&T finally caught up with me and my old, cheap, unlimited data plan and my SIM keeps me from connecting?
There should be no issue putting in a SIM from a working phone. If you go to System Settings->About Phone->Status, what is the network status? "Unavailable"? "Unprovisioned"?
Do you have signal, just no data, or do you have no signal?
I have full phone and text service, just no data (though, oddly, it says I have used 9.92KB of data). That occurs both at my home where I connect to my microcell and elsewhere. Of course, at home, I can also use WiFi for data.
"Mobile Network State" is "Disconnected". "Mobile Network Type" is "UTMS:3." If I turn the data network off and back on, it goes to "connecting" for a while, then back to "disconnected. I did find the location where it specifies the Access Point Names and it is set to "wap.cingular" just like my old phone. But unlike my old phone, the user name and password are "not set". These are uneditable fields.
I also went to the place it allows me to select my network operator and it offered me three different "AT&T" options. Two of the three gave me a message that my SIM does not allow connection to that network. When I try to switch to one of them, I see the data indicator go through Edge, 3G, and 4G, then off.
Only other odd thing I've noted is that the serial number is all zeros. The IMEI is correct, though; and I think that's what matters.
I'm becoming more and more convinced this is a problem with my SIM and the data plan it's tied to. It is from an old EDGE-only Windows Mobile 5 "smart phone" when that meant a device without a touch screen or QWERTY keyboard and a "PDA" was something that had either of those. The "Smart Phone" data plan was half that for a "PDA" but more than for a plain phone, and that's what I'm still paying. I've been buying phones outside of the AT&T system to hang on to that inexpensive, unlimited plan; but I may have reached the end of the line with it. I definitely need to try a SIM from another 4G capable phone,. both AT&T and T-Mobile, to see where I stand.

In the Access Point Names make sure that the profile you were talking about is selected. Or from that screen if you hit the menu button it should give you the option of entering your own APN. If you've had data working on another phone I would suggest duplicating the APN settings from it and try making a new profile.
It could be the SIM/plan you're currently on but honestly this sounds exactly like what happens when your APN settings aren't configured correctly.
Turn the phone off, remove the SIM, boot it with no SIM. Go into Access Point Names and remove all the entries. Turn it off, put the SIM back in, turn it back on. If it doesn't autocreate an entry in Access Point Names, or the autocreated entry still doesn't work, take it to an AT&T store and ask them for help.

There was no way to select the plan. So I made a duplicate of it, which did have a select button, selected it, and it now works great. Thanks so much for your help.

That would have ben last resort. They would have wanted to "upgrade" my data plan to something that cost more and isn't unlimited.
Your solution might have also worked, but the first one offered led me to a solution, so I never tried yours. I'll keep it in mind, though.

APN Settings

Hey Everyone,
Been reading here for a long time and can always find information I need - thanks for the hard work. I've come across one I can't fix. I just upgraded from a Nexus 5x to a OnePlus 3. I'm using Appalachian Wireless, many of you may not be familiar with it. Anyhow, I can't access the APN settings. I go to where it should be, but nothing is there. Here's the thing - randomly it just happened to show up a couple times. When I got the option to actually change it, it wouldn't save. Rebooted phone and now the setting isn't there, as in, it completely disappears.
I had to change these settings on my 5x for mobile data to work, it wasn't a problem. Any idea why I can't access the APN settings? Actually it's not a matter of access, I can't even see the option now. Any advice out there? Thanks
If you dont have a supported carrier, the APN settings will not show. If you put a Sim card in the phone that the OP3 will work with, the APN settings will pop up. Happened to me as well. I bought the phone thinking it would work on Verizon and I figured I just needed to change the APN settings and it would start working. It wouldn't show until I put in a Sim card that the phone would work on.

I have the 3t and I'm on consumer cellular (so it might not be the same for you), but after what seemed like forever, I found the APN settings in a place I never expected them. In 'Settings,' I went to 'SIM & Network' and clicked on 'SIM 1' (or SIM 2, depending on where you have your card). It was there that I found 'Access Point Names.' Hope this helps.
Hey irlyas,
I have just got my 3T and am also on consumer cellular. Would you mind posting what your APN settings are? I am able to send/receive calls texts and pictures, but when sending or getting standard texts in a group they are sent and received as individual messages. Mucho sadness. I highly doubt it is necessary to use a different chat app than the default one built in, I must have just jacked up a setting somewhere.
Cheers,
// Albert

Unbranded (Verizon) M9 (S-off, unlocked) cheap on eBay, MID and APN insights.

I joined XDA in order to give thanks to several contributors. This is the first time I have tried messing with changing stuff on a mobile and I could not have done it without XDA. So as I have benefited massively from the information provided by all you folks on XDA, I thought it would be helpful to outline briefly my route to getting a $80 new-in-box phone off eBay to work in case it helps someone else. It took me a very long time to convince myself that this was a Chinese manufacture M9, for Verizon / CDMA rather than an Worldwide GSM model that it was advertised as, and despite the 0PJA100 designation imprinted on the case. Here is the eBay link, very similar adverts continue to appear under different names: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314253817210
It comes with Android 6.0 out of the box. So naturally I wanted to change this to Android 7.0. The first warning that something was screwy was the "updates only available in CDMA mode" and that updates were not available through HTC Sync Manager.
So I will skip the bits about me changing the MID and CID in order to load a full International 401 Nougat RUU,and then finding that although it booted, very little worked (what can I say, I learn very slowly by making mistakes ).
To load a phone-appropriate RUU, I had to reset the MID. Every bit of information I could find on the internet pointed to the correct MID being 0PJA3000. This is also incidentally the MID I wrote down before I started screwing things up! However, each attempted flash of firmware, ROM, or aboot, led to an error 10 wrong MID. I really don't know why I tried resetting the phone MID to 0PJA30000, it must have been a subliminal input from the tens of hours I spent reading about this phone, but anyway with MID set to 0PJA30000 (not 3000) I had no further flashing errors.
The following downloads, links all on the well written post on Android 7.0 Nougat ROM / Aroma. (thanks to Santod040). let to a clean, bloat-free and functioning phone:
4.49.605.16_NoBoot_TWRP3.2.1-0_firmware
HIMA_WL_N70_SENSE80_VZW_MR_4.49.605.16_AROMA
3.37.605.28_NoRedText_aboot
At this point I had a phone that identified itself as "Verizon", prompted me that I have the wrong SIM, could make calls, could receieve text messages, but could not send/receive MMS or work on mobile data (with no wifi).
To get both mobile data and MMS to work was a major PITA as it was not immediately obvious to me at least that the problem was no APNs set up.
I first set "Data Roaming" to "Allow access for all trips".
Network preference: for me in Australia / Optus is 50502 and GSM (tap GSM from the Add Network choices).
I ignored the usual "network preference list is full (0)" message and tapped the tick at the top of the screen to save my changes.
I cannot reproduce the exact route by which I set the two APNs as several of the outcomes seemed to be context dependent, and I have no idea if it is important in what order you do things.
I am pretty sure that the function to set the APNs is only available if "Preferred Network" is first set to LTE/GSM/UMTS. (It seems that the phone is happy with "Preferred Network" being changed to Global after you have set the APNs.)
With "Preferred Network" set to LTE/GSM/UMTS, then GSM/UMTS options is no longer greyed (is active). Under GSM/UMTS options you can select "Access point names" or you can select "Network operators". I have no idea if it is important to do this before "Access point names". On my phone, it found Optus (my provider) and Telstra (not my provider). Tapping Optus gave me the response "now registered".
Now under "GSM/UMTS Options" I selected "Access point names" and ignoring that the plus symbol was grayed out, tapped it anyway.
I retrieved the sets of responses from the Optus website. It took me several goes before I got them all correct. Apparently the trailing "/" on the MMSC is important. These setting will only be saved if you tap the three dots at the top of the screen and then tap "Save".
When I was done, there was a green dot in a circle next to the first APN (yesinternet) and none next to the second (mms). Anyone know what the green dot means?
Getting MMS to work. Apart from using the correct settings from the Optus website, it may be critical to initiate the MMS APN by sending a MM to yourself (with wi-fi off).
