Assume it's a dead battery? Weird behavior. - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Strange symptoms started a week or so ago. Phone works normally while plugged in to charger, and seems to get up to 100% as normal. When taken off of charge, it will slowly drain as normal...
But then, for example, it will be on 95%, and then just turn off (or maybe say the "Shutting down battery low" screen, then shut down). When I turn it back on, it might say 92% (dropping a couple percent points.
OR, when I turn it back on, it might say 3%, and be almost dead.
And then after a while obviously it will shut down again, as the battery is almost dead. It just did this from what it said was 3%, but when I restarted the phone... it now says 85%!!
So yeh, it seems like it can't decide if the battery is full or drained or both. I have tried full restarts, and this is a factory reset phone at the moment too so totally empty and on stock ROM. Not currently rooted either, as I restored everything to stock recently.
I'm assuming the battery has broken itself, somehow. It seemed to happen very suddenly though, as it was working a couple weeks ago. But before I sell it for spares/repairs, I thought I'd ask in case there was another possible cause!
edit: Also, once or twice when the phone has restarted, it has gone to the "Android is Starting Optimising application 1 out of 144" screen, where it configures all the apps? I thought it only did this on a factory reset, or after installing a new rom or something. Weird.

Yes, sounds like a dead battery:

Quite a few of us have had something similar and replacing the battery fixed it for me.

TP2 starting to do strange things on standby

I thought it just a one off, but it's now happened a few times, I leave my TP2 over night, it show 80 or 90% battery, then when I get up in the morning and check my phone, it says there is an error to report with Opera.exe then when it's cleared the battery is low.
and now twice I have gone to check my phone and found it's turned off completely, then when I turned it on it says there is 10% battery, when the night before it had been charging in the car and before gong to be had shown at least 90%.
Any ideas ???? have I got a faulty battery?
I have quite a similar problem. Sometimes, my tp2 won't wake up after charging. I have to do a soft reset with the stylus to get it running again. My battary doesn't get drained though... don't know what the problem could be...

I think the device has a few isssues which we hope the WM 6.5 upgrage will resolve. I have a vodafone TP2 and anytime i slide open the keypad i get an error message "cprog.exe has stopped working". I am sure other users out there are facing similar issues.
interesting. Mt T-Mo version (that I've had since August 14th) hasn't had a single problem like that... yet (fingers crossed)
last night's shutdown happened while the charger was actually plugged in and the charge light was on, this morning I unplugged it and the phone was off, did a reset to start it and found there was only 10% battery life.
VERY ODD.
Sadly I think it's unlikely that HTC and Vodafone will be able to come to any aggreement to let us officially upgrade to WM 6.5. There's an firmware upgrade on the vodafone site but there's confusion over what it does when the version number is out of sequence to what is installed already.
I've seen the touchflo3D 2.5 youtube vids which look good BUT even if we could get an official release Vodafone will probably want to mess up the icons and colour to brand it again, just for us the end user to spend hours trying to undo their screwing around.
I'm not very optamistic about an upgrade amd I don't want to start installing cooked roms yet as the TP2 is still under warranty and it's my business phone.
Same Here
Mine sometimes doesnt charge however its plugged in & it shuts down itself & keeps restarting automatically with some other similar above issues!! HTC has to know that!
no such things in my pro2
Just had the very same thing happen to me this morning, so it's good to know I'm not alone.
Yesterday, I found my phone was dead, though I was sure it had enough battery life. I put it on the charger and turned it back on.
It was on the charger all night; the battery light was green. When I unplugged it from the charger, I tried to turn it on [from stand-by/locked mode], and the battery light kept flashing, but nothing would happen.
I only was able to get it on by plugging it back into the charger. When it came on, it had 60% battery life, even though it supposedly had 100% just two minutes before (and wasn't even on).
So thanks for mentioning it.

[Q] Z1c issue

Hello everyone. newbie here.
My sony Z1c seems to have developed a bug/issue. 2 days ago my phone was on charge, green led at the top was on and my battery showed at 100%. I unplugged the device jumped into bed, set my alarms as usual. I then woke up 2 hours later then i should of to find my z1c was dead. Nothing was running in the background etc so instantly knew something was up. Tried charging my phone at work via usb>pc and it kept saying my phone is losing charge quicker then its charging (never seen this message before) . I could turn the phone on but the battery level stayed at 2%, as soon as it was unplugged from the pc it would instantly die.
When i got home i done a few "reset" searches and come across the hold volume up and power at the same time until phone vibrates method. This now seems to allow my phone to charge normally again and the battery goes past 2%. However again today my phone went dead overnight. So the issue is still there, im just able to charge the device again.
I dont appear to have anything running in the background
havent done any firmware, software, app updates in the last couple of days (again that im aware off, unless they forced any)
also noticed the phone gets extremely hot at periods for unknown reasons?
Anyone here able to help or advice? is this a faulty battery, software, firmware issue etc? any fixes
d5503
running 4.4.4
14.4.a.0.108
Thanks in advance
Have you tried a different charger? Charge it using wall charger with supplied cable. I don't think firmware is draining your battery. Possible that u r caught up with a faulty battery if u don't have any issues with charger.
My advice "Head to Sony Service Centre asap".
Have you 'ever' installed any custom ROM on this phone then reflashed/restored something later after accquired? It could be the underlying system's battery state is different than the current running OS' one. Try calibrating the battery a couple of times to see if that make any difference.
Hello. Thank you for the replies.
The phone charges correctly via mains and usb(laptop,ps4 etc) since i done that power+volume up reset. Pretty sure my leads and plug are fine. i could try different usb leads though. the charge level is certainly showing me 100% charge
I have never used any ROM's or Roots. i dont know fully what they are. I used to have a jailbroken iphone so it sounds similar. Id be prepared to do down any of them routes if it fixes my phone
Everything updated has been official releases. I dont appear to of updated anything recently though so i cant put it down to a system update or new app update. - something might have glitched somewhere i dunno
Charged the phone during my first post and again it says its gone to 100% after a couple of hours. unplugged the charger. restarted the phone and checked nothing that hasnt been on for the last 3 months hasnt turnt on and all seems fine there. So just left it in standby
checked it 10minutes later to see charge levels. am down to 87%
using gsm battery app it says 68.9% app usage, when i click that
android system 53%
kernel (andoid os) 19.5%
then i have a list of other stuff running all be 2%
them 2 shouldnt be that high should they?
then when i go default settings>power> batt usage
android system 37%
googleplay service 21% (doesnt appear to be updating/syncing anything. should all be off. never used syncing)
screen 14%
android OS 5%
cell standby 5%
the rest of the list are 2's and 1's
phone was cool when charging, since rebooting the device and unplugging it, its now getting hot??? would of expected it to be the other way around!!!
Might want to give it a go of this:

Sorry, newbie can't post URL yet:crying:
Hi again, Jcw i done a full factory result and everything now appears to be fine now. Phone has been on for 3hours standby and on 98% battery, It would have been dead by now and extremely hot at the back. Now running alot cooler. Thanks for the advice.
Have no idea what happened. Something was seriously draining the battery though. Glad its fixed. Thanks again

[Q] Charging/battery and bootlooping issues on my 8.4

I've had my TAB PRO 8.4 since about half a year now, and it's been a really good experience. But then suddenly one day I was just using it for my daily tasks and it suddenly restarted and then it did it again and again, it got stuck in a bootloop. Then it drained the battery and stopped, when I came back home I tried charging it normally, but noticed it wasn't charging past a certain percentage, and since I was also playing with it while it was plugged in then I just thought it was just because of that.
After that, I left it plugged in all night as I've always done but when I woke up, it was STILL STUCK at that percentage (around 25%). It was like that for a couple days with the battery, I restarted the device (longpressing the power/lock key), when I it came back ON then suddenly the battery percentage jumped to around 51% and I thought it was solved but it wasn't, then it didn't want to go past that percentage, and the worst came when I unplugged the device and the battery drained incredibly quickly, like in a matter of seconds it was down more than 10% of the battery.
It's been like this since about a week now, the charging process gets stuck at some random percentage, and when I use it while unplugged then the battery just drains in such a crazy and quick manner. And also, the bootloops come back every once in a while and I have to go into safe mode or odin mode and then restart so that it stops, but the battery/charging issue never stops, it just behaves randomly crazy. I really don't know if it's software or hardware, whether I should try rooting or something like that, or whether I should try to send it to Samsung under the 1year warranty (it's just that I bought it in USA, and I dont live there and it would be just a great pain in the ass in time and money) or just try to live with it like this.
What do yo guys think I should about this?

Did you ever resolve this? I'm having similar charging issues.
Kinda

Well, I kinda resolved it, at least the charging one. I had to drain all the battery down to 0% until it shut itself down, and then I turn it back on and for some crazy reason there was about 50% left but it quickly got drained and went off on 0%, then I turned it back on once more and it was 0% but still it lasted a couple minutes on and again it went off, did that process so many times until it couldn't go back on anymore. At that point, I put it on the charger and it got well charged to 100% at last, and the battery now is working kinda normal, even though the random reboot loops come back every once in a while, specially when on low battery, but that's about it.
If you ever find any definite solution for your charging issue, please contact me.

Battery at 64% Shutdown

Since yesterday, my Z00A has run into a serious problem with the battery. The phone is fine until it gets down to ~65% and then it shuts down without warning. If i try to reboot, it won't work unless I plug it in.
The really confusing factor is that if I boot into recovery or bootloader, the phone will continue running. I just had a shut down and tried to reboot a few minutes ago. The phone shut down within a few seconds of reaching the lock screen, which still said the battery had 64%. I've rebooted into recovery and the battery is now down to 57%, but it's not shutting down.
I've tried to do a factory reset including a full system wipe and reinstallation. I'm running 20170902 Lineage 14.1. I've already done a factory reset and tried other versions of the ROM. I get the same result every time.
Seems like it's a hardware related issue, may be battery or with the main board.
Its the battery, same problem happened to a lot of people including me (mine shuts down at around 30% tho)
You need a replacement, good luck getting an original since asus refuses to sell the battery and all the ones on ebay and other sites are knockoff
Some users report said knockoffs don't work at all and now they are stuck with a phone that only works when charging

Replaced screen and battery, now in (another) bootloop!

Recently I posted about a problem others had as well - when under 50% ish battery, my HTC 10 would randomly reboot, and that would loop until it was plugged in.
Once plugged in and fully rebooted, the battery % reading would vary from where it was before to 1%. Also, certain apps' data or cache would be deleted. I would open, Macrodroid, for example, and it acts like it's the first time being opened after installation.
This has been exhausting, having to constantly be charging, staying above 60% - and even then it still happening. After it does, the apps whose data was cleared varied, and I wouldn't always know until I opened each.
So after this I dropped it and cracked the screen. I have fixed all of my HTCs before with various problems - M8, M7, DNA, Incredible, Max - so I decided to put in a new battery to hopefully fix the bootloop problem.
After watching a few disassembly videos, it seemed best to replace the screen when I opened it for the battery. So I ordered a screen, and waited more, constantly charging, restoring data to apps like Macrodroid and initializing apps all over again.
I finally have the new battery and screen. I have a few hours. I get out all my tools.
A few hours later, I have put it back together. It's like Medusa inside this thing! I was really being risky doing this last night, because I have a ton of work to do today, yet here I am typing this on my backup nexus 5x - so slow!
So the result? Success for the screen replacement, and the battery as well. But, now, it is bootlooping still! I plug it in, and two things:
Plugging it in does not stop the bootloop.
The charging LED does not light up.
So I am hoping someone may have some insight as to what I may not have connected properly. I can post pictures later, I'm not home right now.
I looked and looked and looked and cannot find where I went wrong. I am going to take it apart and put it back together if I can't find the error. Any ideas? Any other places I should post this?
I guess when I get home, assuming it has completely drained itself, I can plug it in, and see if it gets a charge, and if the LED illuminates. I am thinking: charging port is not properly connected back + the new battery did not fix the bootloop / battery issue.
Thoughts?
Bootloops/shutdowns are going to corrupt your data. I would RUU the thing before looking for hardware trouble, which you've likely sorted out by replacing the battery (of course, we're assuming the new battery is good).
BUT before that, is there a memory test in the bootloader or recovery? If so, I would run that very first thing.

Whatever happened to your phone? I have the exact same problem. Infinite boot loop, no illuminated LED, and no way of getting into recovery or anything else with it bootlooping. It occurred after I made the mistake of trying to restart it at 25%. I have the new battery and screen. i'm going to attempt to open this Pandora's box. Seriously going to have to turn my back on HTC. The 10 is so full of software issue problems regarding the batteries that they never bothered to address.
I did the exact same thing a few days ago and my phone won't charge or boot, but I do think the problem is with the button strip, that's what i think, because i tried turning it on before re assembling it and it did turn on successfully and was charging normally but when i re Assemble it, the phone got this problem, now i think when i turned it on before assembling i pressed the power button with a screw driver because i couldn't press it with my fingers, I think there i messed it up, any advice how to fix the button strip and remove a slip nut would be very much appreciated
I had the exact same issue as you(shutting down at 50%), have you found any solution to it?
edit: I THINK clean flashing oreo firmware then latest RUU then twrp then lineage fixed my issue, charging to full rn will drain it over the next day and report back if its gone for good
