is there a way to turn off Ota updates? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I'm getting annoyed of the Ota message update on the OnePlus 3 I have tried to disable it by changing the notification settings of system update but keeps coming up and wasting battery life

Why don't you just perform the update?

Sorry for not being able to read your mind, I didn't know you're rooted, next time please be accurate , anyway...
Just update it ONCE and then perform the rooting, you don't need to to be " always " near pc

Shadow I agree with you, his response was a bit out of line. Maybe...include what Rom you are on, as some customs do have OTA updates...but I don't believe you need to go into detail about not updating.
Also, I don't believe "just update" is a valid answer. Not everyone wants or needs to update to the latest. Sometimes updates break things that are more important to a specific user than the things that it fixes.

An average user should know that it is ALWAYS recommended to update to the latest official firmware do to fixes and most important SECURITY UPDATES

While it may be recommended for most users and for "security updates". It is not viable for others. Such as 3.2.4 all but killed cell reception for some users, the single most root purpose of the cell phone was no longer useable. Even worse let's say those users rely heavily on their cell for business purposes.
Now would you tell this user to stay on the latest official because if not you will not have the latest "security updates".
Either way this thread is going off topic...good talking with you.

Strictly speaking, the answer to "how to get rid of..." is definitely "update"
The answer to "how do I get rid of... I'm rooted, I want to keep... It is working fine... I used to use the latest but I've had issues and so on..." în short, "more details about issue", would have been different
Anyway, this xda it's a place full of off topic so, we're good
I'll get back in a few with an answer

Any reason to accept the Jelly Bean OTA?

I unlocked, rooted, and flashed the leaked 4.1 update a couple weeks ago. Now I'm getting the notification for the official OTA.
1. Is there any beneficial reason to update?
2. If not, how do I disable the notification from reappearing constantly?
3. If I do update, will I lose root? Will it wipe my phone?

1. Yes, the OTA update is for 4.1.1 which contains additional fixes, etc. over 4.1. See other threads in this forum for details on the exact differences/improvements.
2. n/a, update to 4.1.1.
3. You will lose root, but if you use CWM to flash the OTA manually just also flash SuperSU immediately after, before rebooting (this is what I do.. there are other "keep root" methods as well, as described in other threads). The OTA update will not wipe your phone.
Note that this assumes you're running the stock odexed and unmodified version from Google I/O. If you're using a modified version, you'll need to flash a factory image and update that. You'll also need to be running the correct radio. See other on-going threads in this forum for more details.
Hope this helps.

I'm not seeing the changes between 4.1.1 and 4.1.
Can anyone provide a link? I'm browsing the desktop website from my phone, so not very convenient to read through every thread.
Anyone?
Look at it from this way: 4.1.1 is Jelly Bean.
4.1 is not Jelly Bean, it's a preview build for developers that is was intended for everyday use. What do you hope to achieve by not updating?
The leak wasn't s finish build ... it was still buggy here and there ..
4.1.1 fixes some things, plus its a major release ...
Why would you want to stay on a leak for?
It takes literally about 5mins to root your device again

Simply put, update to 4.1.1 and then if your using a Windows PC, install the Toolkit in the Development forum, and then re-root using that, takes all of about 2 minutes.

How do I verify that I'm running 100% stock odexed, unmodified and stock radio, bootloader, kernel, boot, system, etc?
I'm pretty sure I am, but I just want to make sure. (What I mean is, I don't know if unlocking and installing Clockwork modified any of the above.)

My phone works perfectly fine on 4.1. 100% perfectly fine. The notification is annoying though, but it seems to have gone away after the failed update.
Does anyone even know what was changed in 4.1.1? I've been searching through these threads and Googling but haven't been able to find a single post detailing the differences.
So it sounds like you were already predetermined to stay on 4.1. Why did you bother asking if you should update if you were only wanting replies that agreed with you!?!

If you look at the OP, I clearly asked if there was any beneficial reason to update. No one posted a single concrete reason to update aside from "it's official". If someone would have posted actual, real improvements that are in 4.1.1, obviously I would have taken that into consideration.

Simple versioning says that a 4.1 to 4.1.1 update is an extremely minor update to start with. For the most part, it's just some extra polish and a few minor bug fixes. Some people report that it's essentially the same, while others report that 4.1.1 is a bit smoother than 4.1.

No one can give you a concrete reason, your experience may vary. You've been around long enough to know this. And multiple people did give you their reasons, but they werent what you wanted so they went unheeded.

AT&T OTA update trying to take away my global search! How to avoid?

I'm rooted but running a stock rom. Yesterday I got a notification of an OTA update trying to be pushed to my phone. I did some reading and found out it's the fault of Apple (insert several nasty words here) forcing Samsung to remove the global search function. I've delayed it twice now by 8 hours, but it says it won't delay any more, and will automatically install in 8 hours.
What's the easiest way to circumvent this? I'm sorry if it's been answered before, but I barely have time to post this thread because my life's so busy, so please have mercy and just point me in the right direction!
Root, flash cwm and install custom rom.

If you have root , install Titanium backup , and freeze "FWUpgrade 1.2.0".
If i am not mistaken that will prevent any OTA updates. Or as others said custom rom time.
I got the update but because I'm rooted, it never got pushed to the phone.

You can also just take the update and replace the apk. It's linked to in the development section for root without tripping flash counter.

If you are rooted and have CWM installed, the update will be downloaded to the phone, it will restart, but it will fail to install the update as it needs stock recovery for the update to happen. Your phone will restart again saying that the update has failed and you will be back to where you started.
Source: I was rooted and I wanted to update the OTA update. There was no way I could do it with CWM installed. I had to unroot the phone to get the update and root it again.

To confirm, this is exactly what happened.
Thanks!

Once TWRP is installed, how are OTA updates accomplished?

I just tried to update via downloading and then letting the phone install it, but it just rebooted me into recovery and when I clicked reboot and the phone turned back on, it said the update was corrupted.
Or do I not need to worry about OTA's anymore? Going to be flashing CM13 whenever it becomes available anyway.
Interested in the response to this, my strategy will be to stay stock for a week or two to get OTA updates, then root when good custom rom is available, on the assumption the dev will update rom with OTA updates. I'm new to HTC so please let me know if this approach is flawed

Hello guys
You can't use OTA's when you change the original recovery. You need to reflash it to HTC version to complete the update.
All explanations can be find there :

Step 8 is your answer.
Hi guys I'm having same problem. I rooted my HTC10 and now I can't install official updates. My question is: it's really a problem that? Never Upgrading anymore my smartphone I'm going to loose something important?
And when this device will be upgraded to Android N what happens?
Rooting it I blocked forever my device? Never more official updates?
Please let me know

It is a problem you should always be up to date with your firmware. This problem can be resolved BY flashing the RUU for your device.
Excuse me yldlj, what RUU means?

Thank you CoCrop18 for your post.
I read links and now I've an answer for the community:
Someone is considering to have a workaround that allow to install OTA updates (original or modified by community) in rooted htc10?
Or can we stress HTC to release OTA for rooted devices too because they allow us officially to root it?

Does Mi Max receive any OTA updates, or only download and install?

The title pretty much states my question.
I'm curious if I will have to always install ROMs by myself or if we can receive OTA updates of sorts... I'm confused where to get the latest updates for Mi Max, there are too many variants..
The MIi Max does get OTA updates and should tell you. You can always click "updates" .some icon on the screen mayby under tools. Yeah.. OTA
I have a distinct feeling you're being sarcastic yet funny xD
I'm asking with all seriousness. Never touched one of these things, and I actually want to know before ordering one what to expect from them.
You can have OTA updates if you have an official ROM.
Many resellers send devices with unofficial ROMs.
Coming back over this question, it does get OTA, but if I root, it won't get OTA anymore?

Yes if you root your device and install a modified recovery such as twrp you will not be able to install the updates, yet you will be able to download them on your device but you can not install them with a modified recovery.

Good to know.
Seems that it's fairly stable after the latest OTA updates though I have a few rather unpleasant problems...
When someone is calling me, sometimes I have to unlock the screen before I can answer, no evident solution yet.
Sometimes when talking in a call, the display activates and my ear plays in menus (even though it's set to not activate while the sensor is covered.

Question Fold 3 Issues after Android 12 update

Hi everyone,
My Fold 3 started showing wierd sympotoms after Abdroid 12 update however I thought they might get fixed with the next upgrade. Last night I received Android 13 upgrade but to my surprise the issues with my phone stayed same.
My phone is official, no rooting or bootloader unlocking. Knox tripping is 0x0. The same result is shown by the Diagonostics in Members app.
My employer needs me to install work profile that this phone is not allowing and throwing an error saying I have a custom OS. I cannot boot into the bootloader from the recovery menu and getting a smart select error. Moreover I cannot login to Samsung Pay (stuck at fingerprint authrized) and Samsung Pass (Currently not available error: 162)
I have added all the possible screen shots for ready reference.
Can you please advise as what can I do to fix this annoyance! Many thanks in advance

If your phone is not modified in any way, then I would go straight to Samsung. Someone here might be able to help, but in cases like this, Sammy might be your best bet.
Its not modified however Samsung wants to change the mother board and charge big as its out if warranty.
Thats the reason I turned to the community as I have got many issues fixed from the wonderful people that Sammy wanted to charge otherwise.
Update your Google services. Says July, last is October!
