Hi there guys! I own a rooted Nexus 5X. I currently received the OTA update for Nougat and would like to do the update. My question is: how can I do this update without reverting everything to stock first? I don't mind loosing root access, I would just like to update using the OTA update without having to revert everything back to stock and then doing it. Can you guys share a little knowledge here? I have TWRP installed
I think you can maybe sideload the OTA or flash with Flashify or something. It's really recommended to do do a clean install with a factory image and then reroot, especially if you're coming from M. Takes no effort to just back up your SD card with your PC
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Download FlashFire app, go to official page for Nexus 5X OTA packages, download it(around 1.1GB) and flash it as factory image through FlashFire app.
Untick flash recovery.
After that just flash SuperSU zip from twrp and you're rooted.

Using FlashFire Pro, the previously downloaded OTA,(approx. 50 MB), when FlashFire opened, it detected the OTA download and I simply hit the Flash button and it performed flawlessly. Preserved root and recovery.

But the update is 1.1GB or something like that. Would that work too?

Best way to find out is to give it a try. I am only offering my experience, not making recommendations.

FlashFire won't do the new security update because my /system is modified. I had to modify it to make AdAway work.
What do I do now?
Seems fine, just press flash.

Didn't work, it gave a warning about the system being modified and I hit ignore, then the update didn't take.
Edit: nevermind, now it says system up to date. I guess it worked
Glad it worked, for any future update just do the same procedure, it's the easiest method

It didn't work for me either at first, then I checked the "Restore boot and recovery images" option (The "Mount /system read/write" option was already checked, so I left it). Once I checked that option and flashed the OTA update (NRD90S downloaded from Google), it installed just fine.

So if I have stock MM with modified system (adaway, xposed) and its encrypted. Could I upgrade to N by using the 1gb update through flashify? What about vendor?
I'm sick and I don't think my brain is working so I just want to make sure I understand correctly. I'm trying to do this without using a computer. Thanks!!
I don't see why not, although I'm not 100% sure.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I had Xposed installed with a few modules, like mock mock location, root cloak and other two. What I just did was uncheck the flash recovery and left all the things FlashFire told me to. Had no problems at all I believe there's not an Xposed flasher for 7.0 am I right? Still doesn't work?

I got the same. I think it is the search dumb down update referenced above. Silly question but I will lose root with the update, right? What about CWM? I have both but on stock rom.

Update won't finish on cwm, has to be stock 3e recovery. You can keep root by dl'ing voodoo ota root keeper and using it. Check about phone, see which version of software you have.

If you have CALEM then it's probably trying to upgrade you to CALG1, which is the update that removes universal search. If you're already on CALG1 it's something new...otherwise it's a few weeks old.

So do I keep ignoring it? Should I just flash an image that has the update and root?
I would flash the stock rooted version of lg1, find herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 .
Also in that post is the apk got the universal search that the update strips out.

Thank you for all the help. One more question. Is there a way to remove CWM and go back to stock recovery, use root keeper, do the update and restore root again? I guess I'm trying to avoid having to redo all my settings, wallpapers, etc.
BTW, checked and I do have CALEM.

Flashing the root-injected LG1 through Odin as mrhaley30705 suggested will preserve all your apps and settings. If you're worried, do a nandroid first on to your external SD card (or pull it to your computer) before you flash, just in case. But you won't lost your apps and settings because it leaves /data untouched.

Have you problem with the new SuperSU?
I have read this: "Be careful with that version of SuperSU. It is not yet stable (on the N4 at least). There is an issue where for some reason (and we haven't figured it out yet), you lose root, and the daemonsu process starts eating up ~70%+ of your CPU time. Battery dies pretty quick. "

could you make a small guide with the steps you followed for flashing?
I assume that with this method you don't lose any of the personal data. right?

I've had already CWM installed, I'm assuming you also have it:
1.- boot into CWM
2.- backup
3.- flash OTA zip
4.- flash superSU
5.- Reboot system

I just did this myself - stock 4.2.2 and stock bootloader.
Adb sideload worked fine and I didn't lose any data.
Only strange thing was my live wallpaper was uninstalled, but everything else seems ok, and I just reinstalled the wallpaper from the Play store.

Tried to apply update via cwm, but get the same error as posted above. How to fix this?
When I was installing the last OTA received an error message.
The Zenfone reboot and continued to work normally.
The problem is that now does not detect the OTA and can not do the update ...
How can I solve?
Thank you!
I solved the problem installing the OTA manually ...
But the fone is unroot after the upgrade (had used the method 3).
Can I repeat this method? It's safe?
Thanks!!

To update by ota you need stock recovery.
Or maybe you need unroot first (only root by method 3 does not need unroot)

You can use fastboot to update each month. You would flash the boot, system, vendor, and maybe radio and bootloader each month. No loss of data. Then boot into TWRP and flash SuperSU and other mods. A great reference is section 9 in the guide below:

You don't need TWRP, if you have encrypted device then it will not work... And when you want to update or flash anything use FlashFire app...

After flashing addonsu-arm-signed.zip, Root Access can be set to Apps and ADB but, bellow, "Manage root access" is grayed out
Apps say device is not rooted.
Samsung S4 Mini (serrano3gxx)
Then don't flash that zip, Root is already built-in

If I don't flash that zip only ADB is selectable
Try SuperSU.zip v2.46 instead

bootloop... now what
Wooow.. Might need to try the newest SuperSU zip instead. Is your ROM bad? I'm thinking your ROM may not be on par somewhere, but make sure these Root flashes are new ROM installs as you could possibly have leftover files somewhere causing a conflict.
Edit: Oh! If you have SuperSU already installed, Root management is accessed in Settings - SuperSU or SuperSU.apk

I recently flashed Lineage OS 13 to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (GT-P5110). Got developer options but "Manage Root Accesses" is greyed out and root checks show device is not rooted.
I'd be grateful for any assistance or info.
Thanks in advance.

No.
I installed "lineage-13.0_espressowifi-6.0.1-20190729-1933.zip" from "https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117927170".
Everything works well, just no root access.
I can live without it, but like to have it handy just in case.
The link "espressowifi (boots on P3110, P3113, P5110 & P5113)" in https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-2-unified/rom-cyanogenmod-13-cm13-0-t3303798 does not work.
Gets this:-

Thanks for the tip. I thought all that kind of stuff had to be device specific.
I did find this: lineage-13.0-espressowifi-userdebug-kernel-20190303.zip, but I'm not sure if it will do the job.
Android Andi recommends using Magisk.
Will check them all out when I have time to flash and restore.
