Is there any way to install a touch based custom recovery without the power button. If I go to recovery mode, I get stuck and have to use Odin to get back to normal.
I believe TWRP is a touch based recovery, but it seems like the only way to install it was with GooManager which no longer works, is there a way to install it with Odin?
My ultimate goal is to flash a 4.4 rom on the D710.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

If you're rooted and can boot to system normally, you can use TWRP manager to flash recovery.
Or you can use an OTG mouse to connect to phone and make your selections in a non touch based recovery.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I have tried using TWRP Manager but the app always freezes when I try to open it then eventually the phone restarts for some reason.
The mouse is an interesting idea that I didn't know about, I will try that.

Hey guys. I apologize in advance if this a common issue but I'm on my device now and every time I try to type in the search box, the search box disappears.
Anywho, so for some reason my phone has both Clockworkmod and TWRP recoveries. Whenever I try to access recovery to flash either through ROM Manager, Goo, or the power menu, the phone reboots, attempts to go into recovery and then flashes back to black and tries to go into recovery again.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?
I'm using the latest version of CWM.

Well, personally I think you could try a couple of things.. First I would try this app if you are able to boot up into the os, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools and I would flash philz touch recovery as its compatible with twrp backups as well as cwm to which its based upon. And just flash that one recovery. And fingers crossed you will just have that one recovery. It simple, it will flash the recovery for you, it will download it for you, super easy. Now if that doesn't work, I would start at the beginning and go into download mode and ref lash stock ROM, root, and recovery via Odin.. And that will ensure you have one recovery. Also I'm not a huge fan of the two apps you are using ATM but that's just me.. Easier to just hop into recovery and flash ya know.

Many thanks! I'll give that a shot.
I have a Samsung galaxy tab 3 light it also has TWRP recovery.
After installing this app: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=phongit.quickreboot&hl=en
and using it to boot into recovery, I am now stuck recovery boot loop,I can however still get into download mode.
I also do not have a customer rom or custom kernel installed.
I tried using backups that I have, wiping cash, and even entering strings of code in terminal that I found on forums that said it would work, and none of it seems to work.
I do not care about keeping any data that's on there I just want to get out of the loop.
P.s please keep in mind that I am extremely new to android, as well as this form.

The onlyest way is flash STOCK with Odin.
If you want root, flash PhilzTouch with Odin, after flash Boot directly with Power ,Volume+ and Home button into Recovery and flash The SuperSu.ZIP V1.94
After that install The supersu.APP from playstore and update The supersu.
This way was working by me.

shutdown it down - turn off the phone wait few secs before going to next step
hold volume up button while holding power button also
when lg logo appear release/unpress power button just for a sec or two and then press and hold it back
Done
if its not working, it must be, u dont have recovery installed
use freegee to install one
hi
I dont understand
I try alot off time but dont secsuss
Assuming that the phone's power is off:
Hold down volume up button, then push the power button and hold it down. Count to 4 and stop holding the power button, but keep holding the volume up button. You should see the lg logo and then your recovery 5 ~ 7 seconds afterwards. Btw, which recovery are you using?
Custom recovery?
Is there a way to install a custom recovery on this phone? I read conflicting reports. I'm on 4.4.2 rooted and would to make a back up of my system, add zips, etc.

Have you try freegee in the play store? It installs the older version of cwm or twrp, but it's a start. Once you install the custom recovery, you can try flashing the newer version such as Philz cwm or newer version of twrp.
thanks
i do all this but no chances to enter into recovery
can help me with a video for that method
check if u have recovery mode installed
get FreeGee
and boot to it

I tried that before and got error messages. Some people say it worked and some say they had to wipe everything and it still did not work. Maybe the newer version works as I tried this 2 months ago.

first just make sure that your device is rooted, download Optimus G Pro Custom recovery (try to search on google, i found many links last time i download it), install that .apk on your device and then run it, choose flash recovery, and then choose reboot recovery. you will have recovery now. hope this helps.
Heyy! I wanna install twrp and then install cm12 nightly but I've read on other threads that flashing twrp directly will brick my phone and I'll have to install cwm first then cwm touch then twrp from there but on another thread it tells me to directly install twrp from freegee on stock JB.
Can anyone explain this to me? It's really confusing and I wanna know if flashing twrp will brick my phone. Im on stock kk but ill go back to JB and try it. Someone tell me if thats a good idea?

While you're on stock ROMs, just use Philz Touch. But if you ever go to like CyanogenMod or any other non-stock ROM. Flash that ROM with Philz Touch, then flash official TWRP. After, you can stay on TWRP once running a custom ROM.
So I rooted my sgh-m919 (m919uvuemk2) running android 4.3. Root went fine, but I couldn't get TWRP (2.8.7.0) installed. Anytime I tried to boot into it, it would just boot normally. Thinking it was knox messing with the firmware boot, I uninstalled it. It seemed to uninstall fine but when I tried to get into recovery/download mode while holding the buttons it flashed the android screen then rebooted normally.
Then I installed andromizer and was finally able to get to TWRP. So I installed cyanogenmod 12.1 fine, but gapps failed (error code 70). So i've lost root. And my phone still can't get into download mode. Flashes and boots normally. Doesn't seem like a hard or soft brick situation, but I don't really know. I wasn't able to find any forums that fit this description.
Any ideas or recommendations on what I should do?
Any help greatly appreciated... thank you!

I think you may have some terms confused.
To get into Download Mode: Turn off your phone, then turn it on and hold down the Volume Down button. You will get a screen that starts with "Warning!!", and where you can press Volume Up to Continue, or Volume Down to Cance.
To get into Recovery Mode: Turn off your phone, then turn it on and hold down the Volume Up button. You will get some small text at the top left of the screen, and then whichever Recovery you have installed in the Recovery partition will run.
You use Download mode to flash using ODIN.
To get something into the Recovery partition, you can flash using ODIN, or if you are rooted, you can use an app like the TWRP Manager app, and some others.
Also, there isn't an official 2.8.7.0 TWRP. The latest is 2.8.4.0 which may be most/part of your issue.
Getting root is very easy on the SGH-M919, just use the CF-AutoRoot app. But, you don't need root to flash TWRP with ODIN. Also, almost every non-stock ROM will come pre-rooted. So, if you have flashed a CM rom, you are rooted. But, you may need to download SuperSU from the app store.
Rob
Hi Rob, Thanks for the reply. My problem is I hold down the buttons but they no longer boot me into recovery, the android recovery screen flashes for a sec, then boots normally.
I may have found a workaround though, it seems I can now do a recovery option from the power down menu, and that boots me into TWRP. Not sure why the buttons no longer get me into the recovery console, but this may work.
Funny thing is I lost root after installing cm 12.1 while rooted. I think I may downgrade to kit kat because it seems like lollipop drains the battery much faster.

If TWRP 2.8.70 is not functioning correctly, then please try the last stable version: 2.8.4.0.
See the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263001&page=61
I run 2.8.4.0, and the buttons work and TWRP Manager works, etc.
CM12 comes pre-rooted - all non-stock ROMs do. You may have lost the SuperSU app when you flashed, but that can be downloaded from the app store.
Rob
Thanks Rob. I figured out that I was still able to reboot into recovery without buttons so I just went that route. Where did you get the 4.4.4 rom? I can't find anything on the cyanogen site other than snapshot 4.4.2, which I installed last night trying to solve my problem of when someone calls they hear a wicked echo.

SamMobile has all the Stock firmwares for all the Samsung phones. However, their downloads can be a little slow.
Luckily, ShinySide on this forum in the General Section has this thread with fast downloads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/firmwares-official-mdl-mk2-nb4-t2816508
Flashing 4.4.4 will get you the most recent firmware - boot, recovery, modem and ROM. So, you'll need to flash a recovery and CM Rom after that if you want to go back to CM. However, with CM you lose WiFi Calling. You could root the Stock and remove any apps you don't want, or freeze them with TitaniumBackup. That way you get the best of both worlds - stock, but only running the apps you want.
YMMV.

Hi!
My neighbors (11-year old) son apparently tried to root their Samsung GT-N5120 with something called King Root(??). I don't know more than that and they asked me to fix it cause (you know computers) -.-.
The problem is that it's stuck in boot loop. It boots up and it shows the screen and all but it doesn't happen anything and then it reboots. Now what i've tried is to start it in recovery mode (Volume Up + menu button + power button) and i've tried to do a factory reset but it didn't work. From what i've read i think he has overwritten those files that the factory reset needs. So what can I do? It doesn't seem to be bricked since it starts and I can start it in both recovery mode and download mode. My computer reacts when I plug it in and tries to install drivers and so forth (but it won't show up on My Computer). So something probably can be done I just don't know what to do. Any ideas?

If I start it normally it gets stuck a while on the animation screen, then it restarts, is stuck a while and so on. If I boot it up in recovery mode (home+power+vol up) I can navigate those menus and if I boot it up in download mode (home+power+vol down) I can navigate in those menus.

I think I would like to install a custom ROM either through recovery or through Odin (the one that's easiest). The thing is I don't really know where to begin when it comes to tutorials and such, do you have any suggestions of a good tutorial of how to do that? And if you have a link for a custom ROM (or stock ROM) that would work for this device I would reeeally appreciate it!
