Hey guys
So I bought this phone on Craigslist so I cannot have it replaced by verizon. When I got it I did a full wipe and reset. Then I installed franco's kernal and am currently running bugless beast with job 4.1.1.. The issue is that my signal is constantly disappearing or just poor in general.
I found a method that was supposed to fix this problem by raising the minimum CPU to 700mhz. But this did nothing.
Will installing a new radio help? If so which one do you recommend? Or am I just screwed?

I have found that using the stock 4.0.2 radios has helped me a lot. They have given me a 70% improvement in dropped signal and poor audio quality. Having said that its still way worse than any other 4g phone I have ever owned. Lol. (Bionic, revolution,Droid charge, Droid razr, rezound, thunderbolt)
PS I am on my second nexus, still does it.

Thanks! I'll try that

This is good news! Now my question is this. Once this update drops, will our best course of action be to go back to stock and update via ota? And then flash back to custom ROM? Or will flashing back to a custom ROM override the new baseband?

If the screenshot in that article means anything, the new update still has the FC04/FC05 radios. Maybe they tweaked the stock ROM a bit for better reception, but if that's the only change then the update won't help anyone running a Jelly Bean ROM. You'd be forced to go back to stock for the better reception.

I have extensive knowledge on this issue its your baseband version if its 09 your good your radio will be great. You have 10. Check under your settings and you will see. Its under baseband version in about phone. Good news is you can return to Verizon.just don't tell them u bought it on Craigslist. I returned mine off CL.

Nope the store can't do anything for you. You have to call tech support and say you have a horrible data issue. Then they will mail you a new one. Return to factory before you call that way if they ask questions regarding , build number, etc. you'll have it to read .

Based upon this sentence, I question your "extensive knowledge". I'm running with an i515.09 hardware revision and have garbage reception.
It's a per phone basis.
I have zero signal issues.

Compared to other nexus's or are you in a bad reception area? I'm not gonna argue w you but I went through 8 replacement nexus and the only one that worked was a 09 and based off EXTENSIVE internet research that seems to be the case w almost everyone.

I've had the signal problem with both the 9 and 10. My first phone was a 10 with no problems. I have a 9 now with no problems, but had both with problems in between.
One work around I found was to switch to cdma only. Not great to not have 4g but at least data works and no dropped calls.

That's very odd cause on the 8 replacements I went through, none ever had no problems , the problems were consistent. That's odd that you had a phone with no problems and it started acting up. The 10 and 9 are made in different places from what I've been told from Verizon, and the 09 supposedly dont have the radio issue. Out of all the replacments I got, the first one (and only) to work was a 09 from Korea.

Cool. Downloading now. Any other observations?
I should have screencapped the update screen. There were a couple other minor things.

Seemed to solve the wireless charging issues. Was able to use mine yesterday for a half hour to top off. Had no problems overnight, woke up to a full charge
Completely has my battery life and charge times all wonky. I'm literally losing battery as I charge. I'm not using any resource intensive applications or doing anything out of the ordinary. My battery dies much faster than before the update (subjective and just a feel) and despite testing on multiple outlets in multiple places, I no longer have the ability to 'fast charge'... I gave it it time and power cycles to settle... Rolling back NOW...

As far as i know you cannot go back. You can try a factory reset.
Sent from my SM-G928P using Tapatalk
Tried that and it automatically updates during the setup process...

For me, it had no impact except saying "fast charging" on the lock screen vs just charging.
But my phone does drain faster over night a tad bit more often.
software
is there a download for this new firmware because right now im bricked and cant go back to the earlier firmware but i was able to root without recovery though

Do you still have Fast Charging abilities?
Yes that is working fine. But I did get an oddity related to charging or usb port. Phone went nuts beeping and saying dock connected over and over. When it stopped it would not fastcharge, rebooted and all was fine.

Apparently this was supposed to work, but no one with the AOI6 update has confirmed yet.

Wondering if the speed of the phone is affected by the encryption. My Nexus 9 (encrypted) seems to take a very long time to boot. I don't really feel the encryption is necessary in my case, so I'm thinking I might want to disable it on the 10
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA-Developers mobile app
No, it's not. FDE barely has an impact these days considering the encryption/decryption is being done in hardware instead of software.
Thanks

Any benchmarks or comparisons to back this up? There's the power usage angle as well.
Been running dev preview and now I got the full meal deal, but I swear battery life is worse an phone lags more. Anyone else have this experience?
I haven't noticed it on my 5X.

Not at all. Phone runs better for me. Maybe you should try doing a factory reset.

That's the plan once I have time. Might just be in my head if no one else has noticed!

Factory reset and give it a few battery cycles.
Maybe that's why the factory images still aren't available. Maybe Google discovered some issues. Technically anyone running N should still be in the beta program.

Always try a factory reset before assuming the worst.
So now we have a release date in the US ( Dec 5) for Nougat 7.1.1. Any bets on how long it will take for ATT to get it to us?
https://www.yahoo.com/tech/android-7-1-1-nougat-175748137.html
Soon hopefully http://www.sammobile.com/2016/11/25...-update-for-the-galaxy-note-5-in-south-korea/
Start the bets? hahaha i think next year.
Can't wait for the beta test and the rapid release right after that... </sarcasm></u>
Got Ota security patch today. Maybe getting ready for 7.1.1

Hopefully there will be some sort of exploit if we get it!
This phone hasn't worked any better than it did before I got a single update. All these patches and os upgrades have just slowed the phone down and added glitches.

Wi-Fi calling and enhanced messaging (or whatever it's called) were a pretty big step forward for the device.

If you were fortunate enough to not have your messaging broken by it. There is another thread in this forum that covers those of us who's messages don't go through with that turned on.
I still love the phone just wish I never updated it from the day I got it.

Has there been any confirmation that the Note 5 will actually get Nougat ? Just a tad cynical after the length of time it took for Marshmallow to drop.

Only beta in koria
Samsung phased a roll-out for the Marshmallow update, with some devices receiving it in South Korea at the end of January 2016. Other regions and devices had to wait a little longer with updates still being pushed in March 2016.
With so many devices to update, Samsung tends to be a little slower. At the moment, the company hasn't committed to a timeline, but it's thought that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will be updated to the Grace UX - as found on the Note 7.
It has been confirmed that the Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 will be the full Android 7.1.1 version.
Samsung has started a Galaxy Beta Programme for Nougat, meaning this in US, UK, Korea and China can test the software on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
The T-Mobile network has confirmed some Samsung devices that will be updated at some point, including: Note 5, S6, S6 edge, S7 and S7 edge.
I would definitely prefer a downgrade from this 6.01 but if people report much improved battery life by heavy majority I may wait another year or so before upgrading.
I vote for a change in the title of this thread. Each time I see it I get a false sense of hope that AT&T actually released 7.1.1 overnight.
