Hey guys
So I bought this phone on Craigslist so I cannot have it replaced by verizon. When I got it I did a full wipe and reset. Then I installed franco's kernal and am currently running bugless beast with job 4.1.1.. The issue is that my signal is constantly disappearing or just poor in general.
I found a method that was supposed to fix this problem by raising the minimum CPU to 700mhz. But this did nothing.
Will installing a new radio help? If so which one do you recommend? Or am I just screwed?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I have found that using the stock 4.0.2 radios has helped me a lot. They have given me a 70% improvement in dropped signal and poor audio quality. Having said that its still way worse than any other 4g phone I have ever owned. Lol. (Bionic, revolution,Droid charge, Droid razr, rezound, thunderbolt)
PS I am on my second nexus, still does it.

This is good news! Now my question is this. Once this update drops, will our best course of action be to go back to stock and update via ota? And then flash back to custom ROM? Or will flashing back to a custom ROM override the new baseband?

If the screenshot in that article means anything, the new update still has the FC04/FC05 radios. Maybe they tweaked the stock ROM a bit for better reception, but if that's the only change then the update won't help anyone running a Jelly Bean ROM. You'd be forced to go back to stock for the better reception.

I have extensive knowledge on this issue its your baseband version if its 09 your good your radio will be great. You have 10. Check under your settings and you will see. Its under baseband version in about phone. Good news is you can return to Verizon.just don't tell them u bought it on Craigslist. I returned mine off CL.

Nope the store can't do anything for you. You have to call tech support and say you have a horrible data issue. Then they will mail you a new one. Return to factory before you call that way if they ask questions regarding , build number, etc. you'll have it to read .

Based upon this sentence, I question your "extensive knowledge". I'm running with an i515.09 hardware revision and have garbage reception.
It's a per phone basis.

Compared to other nexus's or are you in a bad reception area? I'm not gonna argue w you but I went through 8 replacement nexus and the only one that worked was a 09 and based off EXTENSIVE internet research that seems to be the case w almost everyone.

I've had the signal problem with both the 9 and 10. My first phone was a 10 with no problems. I have a 9 now with no problems, but had both with problems in between.
One work around I found was to switch to cdma only. Not great to not have 4g but at least data works and no dropped calls.

That's very odd cause on the 8 replacements I went through, none ever had no problems , the problems were consistent. That's odd that you had a phone with no problems and it started acting up. The 10 and 9 are made in different places from what I've been told from Verizon, and the 09 supposedly dont have the radio issue. Out of all the replacments I got, the first one (and only) to work was a 09 from Korea.

What do you think about this?
Some users are receiving a special update for resolve lost signal issues... or so they say ...
http://www.htcmania.com/showpost.php?p=4376163&postcount=69
would be nice if it is true
Could be legit, the kernel version is newer, but some people do have too much time on their hands so it could be fake.
Time will tell I guess.
Gonna call bull**** until I hear more about this.
I think it´s real...
I hope its real. My phone doesn't have the sleep bug with signal loss but I noticed twice now that for no reason when the phone is charging, the reception bars go grey and take about five mins to become active again. Might just be an unstable radio even though I'm using XXLA2. Might try out UGLC1 tonight
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
This happens all the time, this is not a "secret update" is a testing build, they have to test solutions in real scenarios with people that is experiencing the problem with controlled results, check the Transformer Prime forums here at XDA and you will see that ASUS contacted users via PM to ask them to test a new build that would fix some issues before release it to general use, Motorola does this also at their support forums and I'm sure a lot of more companies. So, this is just an indicator that google is working on it and in my opinion is that users on which they have trusted should not share it, because that will cause for us no to be trusted again..
That is my opinion
I'd imagine it's legit. I guess we'll find out...

Somewhat working now.. signal connection is weak, battery icon says its charging when not on charge, volume up button not working right, battery dying awhole ton faster.
I'm going nuts over this..

i'm sorry but anyone noticed the issue of the new UVLH1 update or i'm the only one? when i make a call i have no sound on the phone neither to know that i'm connected with the other side nor to hear him?? even if it's not all the time but it's annoying sometimes to make 3 or 4 call to have one!! anyone have the same issue or a solution please?? i'm on UVLH1 rooted
Might be a bad install. Try wipe cache and fix permissions
That will do. If not reinstall and so the wipe again

This problem happened again for me as well, but only on cdma. Try switching your phone to gsm only and see if it functions. That is what seemed to fix mine. (I know, not really a fix. I am just curious if the problem is a bug in the new radio.)

You need a custom recovery and you need to know how to use it (the recovery you have).
Again, towle has a sticky with mirrors MANY helpful downloads. a flashable zip of uvle1 radio was in it the last time I checked.
If you don't know how to check if a flashable radio has a ril then flash the radio, THEN your ROM. Custom ROMs tend to have custom rils and it is best not to overwrite them.
----
As an end note, I'm using lh1 and have been on every ROM I've used (tried too many to remember), not everyone has issues; it may depend on the area you are in.

I agree!!!!
I just Re-flashed both my phones to GINGERBREAD 2.3.6 UVLDE That I got from Here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=4798 using the ODIN software and a great walk though found Here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-t-mobile/628449-how-odin-any-stock-rom.html
So far, we haven't had any calling issues as of yet....Plus, the phone is super fast again!! I noticed that with ICS on the phone, and Factory Reset with nothing on it, My RAM was tipping between 500-600 MB of use!! and now that we are back to Gingerbread, it's at 295-340MB....Which is a HUGE difference!!!!!
Let's hope, that maybe it might be defective SIM cards or chips like you said, but I am also tired of wiping these phones and starting all over again!!! I think Im gonna stay with GB for now......It's woking as intended anyway...
I'm having this issue where when i make or receive a call at times there is no sound and either party cannot hear. This happened to me on GB too. After monitoring it for a long time, i figured that it only happens when inside home where i get poor reception and not outside or places with good reception.
When i'm at home i usually get 1-2 bars of signal. Often, when i get a call and i don't get any sound, i look at the signal strength and it is at 4 bars but as the call disconnects it drops back to 2 and then if i make or receive the call then it goes fine.
I searched around the net i see this issue is with S3 users too, when they have poor reception they do not get any sound on call. I'm thinking that it has to do something with the radio hardware or holding reception in low reception areas.
Hi guys,
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy SII on eBay. I decided to take the plunge even though the seller said it was for "parts and not working". He said the problem he was having was that the phone would shut off by itself, no matter what he did. He said this happened maybe once every 10 times he pressed the sleep button.
I got it yesterday and started messing around with it. I haven't encountered the problem yet but I only used it for a few hours. I proceeded to successfully root the device and flashed a custom ROM (CyanogenMod 10 - JB 4.1.1) and it seems to work ok. I'm not using the phone yet and I guess I was just wondering if you think the problem may have just "gone away". If it did, I would feel very lucky. I won't know for sure until I start using the phone regularly, but I needed a reliable phone today at work and that's why I didn't bring it with.
Any thoughts on what could cause this issue and possible solutions are appreciated. I've read some people say it's related to the CPU or the button itself, or perhaps even the battery. The owner had never rooted the phone so he was just running the regular T-Mobile Gingerbread rom.
Thanks and Happy Friday!
Probably the power button problem

Thanks for answering, Teo. If it's that, it should be fairly simple to fix. I'll report back just in case somebody is having the same issue.
Since the JB ROM's suffer from random restarts and sleep of death issues, I would recommend flashing an ICS ROM. This will get you a more stable environment for testing, so if the device suddenly shuts it self off, you'll know it's not the ROM.

+1 to this suggestion. Flash a ROM that is known to be stable so you can confirm the original issue. I'd suggest stock (gb or ics, doesn't matter) for the best test environment.

I bought it used on eBay, I'm not the original owner. And I didn't see the SquareTrade warranty option for this purchase, perhaps because it was under "For parts & not working". I haven't come across the problem yet. I have flashed a few different roms (ICS) but every one of them has given me some type of problem. I'm still using my very reliable myTouch 4G and I'm starting to doubt if I really want to dump it for the SII.

I'm keeping my MT .. at least for now. I actually paid more for it than for the SII! I'm using the SII full time and keeping the htc for backup. Im running Toasted Marshmallow on the htc and I like it a lot. I tried JK on the SII but gave me problems so I'm sticking to Team Chopstick for now.

You got a good deal from someone that didn't know much about Android smartphones, nice. This is obvious because it was still on GB lol.

Yeah! I actually lost the bid to someone else and then for whatever reason the bidder backed out and I got a second chance offer from the seller so I bought it right away.

I'm going to be calling Verizon for battery issues I've been having. These include markedly worse battery life than I've ever had (which was poor to start), and over heating. I'm on CM RC2 currently, but it does it on every ROM and kernel combo recently. Could somebody tell me the current official GNex build number for when they ask for it?

Why don't you just flash the AOSP images provided by google? Then just lock up the bootloader and take it in.
